Peter Asher (Peter & Gordon) and Jeremy Clyde (Chad & Jeremy) were stars during the British Invasion era of the 1960s. Peter & Gordon had massive hits with songs like “A World Without Love” and “I Go To Pieces”. Peter went on to have an illustrious career in the music business, first as the head of A&R for Apple Records where he signed a then-unknown James Taylor, then as producer for many artists including Linda Ronstadt, and currently as the host of “From Me To You”, a weekly Beatles show on Sirius/XM. Jeremy was half of Chad & Jeremy who had several big hits including “Yesterday's Gone” and “A Summer Song”. He tours together with Peter these days. We do two Songfests - one where we select and discuss several favorite British Invasion era songs by other artists that were One Hit Wonders or off the beaten path. And the other where we play and discuss a few of Peter & Gordon's hits plus a Peter and Jeremy song.My featured song is “This Time” from the album “Bobby M and the Paisley Parade”. Mixology: The Mono/Stereo Mix Differences Podcast
Of Cabbages and Kings by Chad Stuart & Jeremy Clyde

Mixology: The Mono/Stereo Mix Differences Podcast

Hello Cabbages! This week on the show we're taking our first full-length look at Chad & Jeremy, addressed here by their full names, and their 1967 statement piece Of Cabbages and Kings. A tale of two sides, this takes an already very progressive baroque-folk set of songs on Side 1 and pairs it with The Progress Suite on Side 2 - a 5 part, most instrumental look at the rise and fall of society and the politics surrounding it. It's a grand, Gary Usher produced statement of an album that lands for the most part, but how do it's two mixes stand up? Well, for the most part the mono and the stereo are equally strong, especially over speakers, and I never truly feel left wanting from the mixes, but there's plenty of little details that make each unique. So with these two LPs in hand, and a 45 edit/mix of opening cut 'Rest in Piece' trailing behind, let's dig into this album to deep which is the Cabbage, and which is the King. I've also got to once again give a huge thanks to Ethan Alexanian from the Fans on the Run podcast for his work on the flatlay artwork for today's episode. Oh, and I want a word with whoever decided to put my name on a gravestone at the start of the album. I'm a little suss now... Happy Listening, Frederick P.S. If you want more Chad & Jeremy, we looked at 'Paxton Quigley...' b/w/ 'You Need Feet: last month over at the Patreon on Mixology on 45.  Email Instagram - @hypnoticfred

Welcome to a Very Special Episode of the podcast celebrating the show's 3rd Anniversary! I started the podcast in March 2021 during the depths of the pandemic, when musicians like me couldn't play live. It was a bleak time for all of us. I needed to find a creative outlet and so I started this podcast. From the beginning it grew quickly and exponentially. It's been ranked for some time now in the Top 1% of all podcasts. I have listeners worldwide on every continent in 200 countries, and it has won several awards! My guests have included many of the world's most famous musicians and other creatives.Last year to celebrate the 2nd Anniversary I played excerpts from several guest interviews. But for this 3rd Anniversary show I wanted to do something different - and fun. So here's what I decided. After each interview I ask my guest to record a short promo for the podcast. I use these promos at the beginning of other guest interviews. Everyone does their promo a little differently in their own style. After all, they're artists! So I thought it would be fun to put together a montage of promos featuring a slew of my guests. The entire list is below.I want to thank my guests and my listeners for the success of the podcast. As I like to say - Keep On Rockin'! Featured Guests:"Cousin Brucie" Morrow, John Lodge, Ted Nugent, Al Kooper, Gary Puckett, Suzi Quatro, Tony Orlando, William Lee Golden, Richie Furay, Peter Noone, Timothy B. Peter Asher (Peter & Gordon) and Jeremy Clyde (Chad & Jeremy) were the softer counterparts to the hard rock beat groups of the British Invasion era of the 1960s. Jeremy was half of Chad & Jeremy and had several big hits including “Yesterday's Gone” and “A Summer Song”. He recently was a guest on this podcast. Peter and Jeremy tour together these days. We do two Songfests - one where we select and discuss several favorite British Invasion era songs by other artists that were One Hit Wonders or off the beaten path. And the other where we play and discuss a few of Peter & Gordon's hits plus a Peter and Jeremy song.My featured song is “This Time” from my new album, “Bobby M and the Paisley Parade”. Jeremy Clyde is a great guest who provides not only British charm and elegance but great stories! Listen to this one hour in-depth interview with Richard Solomon.    Jeremy Clyde is not just one half of sixties British Invasion duo Chad & Jeremy, he’s also an accomplished actor and songwriter who recently embarked on a one-album-a-year solo project entitled ‘The Bottom Drawer Sessions’. Jeremy takes the stage in a rare solo show to launch the newest installment of The Bottom Drawer Sessions, performing new songs, some Chad & Jeremy classics, and stripped down versions of deep cuts from the psychedelic years. The first of Chad Stuart & Jeremy Clyde's 14 U.S. chart hits was 1963’s "Yesterday's Gone", followed by "A Summer Song", "Willow Weep for Me", "If I Loved You", "Before and After" and more. TV appearances included "Shindig", "Hullabaloo", "The Patty Duke Show", "The Dick Van Dyke Show" and "Batman."   Their musical adventure-and evolution-continued with the hits "Distant Shores" and "You Are She" , from late 1966, but they turned a corner with the September 25, 1967 LP release ‘Of Cabbages And Kings". Looking back at the classic album, All Music guide says Chad & Jeremy "were gifted songwriters who could work outside the standard pop framework of the day, and Chad Stuart (who orchestrated the album) was a talented and imaginative arranger who gives the material a sound that's both rich and intimate."   That songwriting gift never left Jeremy Clyde, and through decades of off and on touring with Chad & Jeremy and on and on acting on British television--including "Downton Abbey"-- and the stages of London's West End. Beginning with the 2014 release of "The Bottom Drawer Sessions No. 1", Jeremy Clyde has --with more than 50 sweeping, evocative, inspired recordings- reclaimed the title of ‘songwriter’. He describes the Bottom Drawer sessions as “analog songs for an analog age”. With his 2018 U.S. tour dates - on his own and with Peter Asher - another title, "troubadour" can't be far behind. Special thanks to Jeremy for a wonderful interview.   (Chris Maffei - sound engineer for this recording - thanks Chris!)
