Welcome to my first Joint Interview! My Co-host is Gary Puckett, ‘60s Superstar with Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, as we interview another music Superstar, Jerome Gourdine, better known as Little Anthony of Little Anthony and the Imperials. Little Anthony and the Imperials was one of the few artists who bridged the doo wop era of the 1950s and the rock era of the 1960s. They had one hit after another with “Tears On My Pillow” (1958), “Shimmy Shimmy KO KO Bop” (1960), “Goin' Out Of My Head” and “I'm On The Outside Looking In” (1964) and “Hurt So Bad” (1965). Their songs have been covered by so many artists. They appeared twice on the Ed Sullivan Show and were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.In honor of my co-host the featured song in this episode is “Young Girl”, which was a #1 hit for Gary. In 1968 he and his band had six Top 10 hits and sold more records than anyone else. ---------------------------------------------The Follow Your Dream Podcast:Top 1% of all podcasts with Listeners in 200 countries! For more information and other episodes of the podcast click here. To subscribe to the podcast click here.To subscribe to our weekly Follow Your Dream Podcast email click here.To Rate and Review the podcast click here.“Dream With Robert”. Welcome to a Very Special Episode of the podcast celebrating the show's 3rd Anniversary! I started the podcast in March 2021 during the depths of the pandemic, when musicians like me couldn't play live. It was a bleak time for all of us. I needed to find a creative outlet and so I started this podcast. From the beginning it grew quickly and exponentially. It's been ranked for some time now in the Top 1% of all podcasts. I have listeners worldwide on every continent in 200 countries, and it has won several awards! My guests have included many of the world's most famous musicians and other creatives.Last year to celebrate the 2nd Anniversary I played excerpts from several guest interviews. But for this 3rd Anniversary show I wanted to do something different - and fun. So here's what I decided. After each interview I ask my guest to record a short promo for the podcast. I use these promos at the beginning of other guest interviews. Everyone does their promo a little differently in their own style. After all, they're artists! So I thought it would be fun to put together a montage of promos featuring a slew of my guests. The entire list is below.I want to thank my guests and my listeners for the success of the podcast. As I like to say - Keep On Rockin'! Featured Guests:"Cousin Brucie" Morrow, John Lodge, Ted Nugent, Al Kooper, Gary Puckett, Suzi Quatro, Tony Orlando, William Lee Golden, Richie Furay, Peter Noone, Timothy B. In December of 1968, I left home alone for the very first time to go to a Pop Festival in Miami. Technically it was in Hallandale at a horse track. It was an absolutely fabulous three days except for the part where I lost my wallet and I was kind of adopted by a 29-year-old woman in an MG convertible who fed me and took me out to Miami Beach at midnight to go to a club called The Image.. And just like me, I am taking way too long with this post. Getting back to the festival there was such a diverse group of artists who played including Iron Butterfly, Chuck Berry, Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs, and the Turtles. On the night I lost my wallet, I was in the parking lot looking for my friend's car which I could not find. From the vantage point of the parking lot, I could hear two different groups playing. On one stage which was called the Flower stage in front of the stands, I could hear Iron Butterfly. In my other ear I could hear the Turtles singing Eleanor. It was at this time that I gave up looking for my friend's car and I had decisions to make. One was to panic because I was 17 years old away from home for the first time and had no money because my wallet had disappeared and I had no ride to get back to my friend's house where I was staying. The other decision was which stage was I going to go to. I was actually in the stands when Iron Butterfly took the stage and heard most of their set before I headed out to the parking lot so I decided to go over to the Flying stage and listen to the Turtles. they were absolutely wonderful. great harmonies, very tight band and it was there that I met the wonderful lady who rescued me and took me to Miami Beach to the club and then back to her apartment to spend the night. ( that by the way is yet another story that I will never tell). The next morning after she fixed me breakfast she dropped me back off to the festival and gave me her ticket for the third day since mine was in my wallet that was gone. She also gave me $5 to buy something to drink or eat later. I wonder what happened to her, but I digress this post is about the Turtles.I did not see them in concert again until 1992 when they were part of a radio concert at Coachman Park in Clearwater that included a bunch of different bands. My teenage son TyTyler Crose was with me and anyone who knows him knows his vast knowledge of classic rock and roll. Because of my work and radio and knowing the right people I was able to gain access to the restricted area next to the stage and I took Tyler with me while the two remaining members of the Turtles Howard Kailyn, and Mark Volman We're hanging out and Tyler got to meet them both. What a bunch of people do not know is that Howard and Mark at one time in a break from Turtles fame became Fluorescent Leach and Eddie and were part of Frank Zappa's Mothers of Invention. Great evening, lots of great entertainment including the Turtles which brings me to my last paragraph. So, today because I genuinely have no life I was looking at YouTube and I see a video from the 2023 Happy Together tour. They actually were here I believe in May at Ruth Eckerd Hall but because I don't know anything that's happening I missed the show. I am kind of glad I did. As I was watching the video I got to see the Cowsills and then Gary Puckett formally of the Union Gap. As I understand it he is a local resident here in our area now. I then kind of skipped ahead a little bit because I really wanted to see Howard and Mark. They were introduced with great fanfare, except for one thing. No Howard Kailyn. Further research told me that he had retired because of some severe heart problems. I understand we are all getting old as crap. But, oh holy crap, His replacement was the guy that sang for the imaginary group called The Archies. Remember them? And to my shock and horror right in the middle of the set, he decided he was going to sing Sugar Sugar. I am so grateful for experiencing them in the beginning and midway thru. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thedailygrateful/message

THE FIRST 50 YEARS More than 50 years ago, Lynn Royce Taylor and friend David Musselman formed a duet they named the Gospel Chords. From the start they were singing nearly every week.  A mere three years later they had become a quartet and were now nationally performing in churches, fairs, corporate events, TV and radio, and will record a total of 16 vinylLPs over the next 12 years..   The Chords continued for over twelve years. By now, Royce had three young boys and set his singing career aside to finished college and work in business and marketing and raise his young family.  One of the highlights in this time, was “Royce, Your Voice in the Morning” radio personality on WKTK 96.7 FM contemporary Christian radio station.          In 1991, the Vogues invited him to sing tenor. In the 60s the original four members charted 24 popular hit songs including, “You Are My Special Angel, Turn Around Look at Me, Five O'clock World, and, You're The One,” and were #3 behind the Beatles on the BillboardMusic Charts. Even now, he continues to sing this great oldies Rock 'n Roll in fun shows across America.    Royce moved to Nashville, TN and returned to Gospel Quartet music in 2002. Joining the Stamps Quartet, and Elvis' Imperials introduced him to the world of Elvis Presley. this amazing career has paired with the Colorado Symphony, Radio City Music Hall, and Historic Cathedrals in Europe and the UK, as well as 5 world tours with Big Screen Multimedia Show, “Elvis Presley in Concert” sharing the stage with the original cast of Elvis' Las Vegas Hilton show: TCB Band and orchestra. For another eight years, he toured Europe with the TCB Band; James Burton, Glen D. Hardin and Ronnie Tutt.    From his Nashville home, he continues to sing a variety of popular and gospel music and take the calling to share the living Word of God and message of love. His mandate is to entertain and inspire around the world. From Paris France to Paris Texas, Manchester England to Manchester Tennessee, Vienna Austria to Vienna Ohio, Royce Taylor is enjoying an Extraordinary / Ordinary Life.    Touring the United States and the Europe, either as a solo performer or tenor for top charting hit maker, The Vogues,  Royce has found the balance between singing popular Rock 'n Roll and continuing his Christian Music ministry. This is affirmed when a Pastor says, “Five O'clock World” was a favorite song or when someone from an oldies show tells him that the Gospel Music he's shared has touched and spoken into their life.    As tenor for the Vogues, Royce regularly performs with stars like, Frankie Avalon, Bill Medley, the Beach Boys, Gary Puckett, and other classic rock 'n roll heroes. You can also see him hanging out with Gospel Music legends at a Bill Gaither Homecoming. You may catch him doing a show at Wembly Arena in London England singing the songs of Elvis Presley. It's quite common to find him singing at a church, sharing the Gospel Music that pilots his life. In all of these situations, he is comfortable and accessible to all.

During the late '60s -a period distinguished as rock's most radical, innovative, and far-reaching - GARY PUCKETT and the Union Gap forged a series of massive chart hits that were full of melodrama. The group pioneered the hip-to-be-square concept two decades before the likes of Huey Lewis and the News. They were clad in Civil War-era get-ups (complete with fictitious military ranks) and they became an overnight success. Gary Puckett was born in the same town where Bob Dylan went to high school. He picked up the guitar as a teen, and while attending college in San Diego played in a number of local bands before quitting school to focus on music. Despite his parents' protestations, Gary began to devote all of his energies towards becoming a professional musician. He relocated to Los Angeles to serve as the house drummer on a tv series but knew that if his band was to be a success, he needed a gimmick. That's when he came up with the idea to outfit his band in civil war costumes. Unable to afford to have them made in LA, Gary took the group to Tijuana, where he had the outfits made at a cheap price. The band cut a demo and Gary began hawking it around. No-one was interested until he stumbled on a meeting with newly appointed label producer, Jerry Fuller who was impressed by Gary's soaring baritone. He agreed to check out their live show. Believing Fuller was due to arrive on Saturday, the band, known then as The Outcasts opted to save their energy, delivering an atypically mellow set on Friday night. But Fuller was in the crowd and despite this, signed the group on the spot. They were re-christened the Union Gap in 1967 and recorded their first single, "Woman Woman." In the spring of 1968, the Union Gap scored their biggest hit, "Young Girl," written by Fuller in the style of "Woman, Woman," but exchanging the age-old theme of infidelity for the age-old theme of the temptation of underage romance. The juggernaut rolled on, and the group continued rattling off hits -- "Lady Willpower," "Over You," and "Don't Give in to Him." In 1968, the band scored six consecutive gold records and sold more records than any other recording act...including the Beatles. They were touring relentlessly becoming tired and stressed out. Arguments ensued In 1969 there was a stalemate and the band disintegrated. "This Girl Is a Woman Now," was to be their last hit. In 1970, Puckett began recording as a solo act, but his efforts were not well-received. He continued making solo appearances in the months to come, but by 1973 he had essentially disappeared from music, opting instead to study acting and dance. He performed in theatrical productions in and around L.A., but his acting career never really took off either and in 1984 he signed on with the Happy Together oldies package tour. Two years later Gary was tapped to open for the Monkees on their 20th Anniversary tour, and he remained a staple of the revival circuit into the next century. Today he still tours with The Happy Together tour and as a solo act around the world. Gary joins me in conversation in this episode to tell us not only about his incredible musical journey but to provide valuable advise for anyone with an ambition. In his words it is "persevere, be patient and have faith. If you want something badly enough, it'll happen if you pour all of your energies into it." For more information about Gary Puckett head to his website http://www.garypuckettmusic.com/bio.php or to my website www.abreathoffreshair.com.au I hope you enjoy Gary Puckett's story.

On this episode of Gavin Wood's Countdown podcast, Gavin chats to Gary Puckett, solo artist and the lead singer of 60's American pop/rock group Gary Puckett & The Union Gap. Active in the late ‘60's Gary Puckett & The Union Gap rose to prominence worldwide with hit singles "Woman, Woman", "Young Girl", "Lady Willpower", and "Over You", all achieving top 10 chart positions in the US, UK, and here in Australia. Gary Puckett & The Union Gap were one of the few artists whose first five releases went gold. Not even Elvis accomplished this. In 1968, Gary Puckett & The Union Gap had 6 consecutive gold records and sold more records that year than any other recording act, including The Beatles. Gary played a command performance at the White House for Prince Charles and Princess Anne by special invitation of President Richard Nixon. Once The Union Gap disbanded in 1971, Gary went on to work in theatre and perform solo. He was billed for the first Monkees reunion tour in 1986 and made more than 50 television appearances. The Gary Puckett & The Union Gap's "Greatest Hits" album is one of CBS's bestselling "Collector's Series" albums today.

The theme of this Music Day episode is Cover Songs.A cover song is when an artist performs a song that someone else has already performed. Most artists have done covers. The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, for example, both started out exclusively playing covers before they began to write their own songs. This episode presents two of my covers. I prefer to call them “reimagined versions” because I always try to make my covers as original as possible. The first is “You Really Got Me” by The Kinks. It features the wonderful Lucy Woodward on vocals. Dave Davies of The Kinks has praised our cover. The second is “The ‘In' Crowd”, Dobie Gray's hit that was also a jazz hit for Ramsey Lewis.
