Love is an Action: Embrace it with the Good Samaritan's Message of Service

SummaryLove is an Action: Explore how the Good Samaritan parable inspires service towards others. IntroductionThe world thinks that love is a feeling. Christians come to understand that love is more than simply emotion; it's something you do. The phrase "love is an action" is not merely a rhetorical statement or a poetic expression; it's the backbone of the Christian faith, a compass guiding our interpersonal relationships and interactions. Love's essence lies much deeper than emotion or sentiment, entwined within our everyday actions and choices, embodied not by the grand gestures or declarations, but in the small, unnoticed acts of kindness. Opportunities to Show Love is an ActionOur interactions with others are opportunities to perform love in action, particularly through service to others. The Good Samaritan, an enduring story of selfless service, consistently illustrates this principle. The Samaritan did not simply feel compassion upon seeing a distressed fellow human; he took immediate action, rendering assistance that went way beyond the superficial. It was not a fleeting emotion but an act, an unequivocal demonstration of love in its most practical and genuine form. Remembering Love is an Action Can Change the WorldDrawing inspiration from this, imagine the world that could be forged if "love is an action" guides our interactions. A world where stepping up to assist those in need, extending understanding in disagreement, and expressing gratitude becomes a reflex, much like the Good Samaritan did. This humble enactment of love is more impactful than any grand affectionate gesture. So, let us see love not as a coat we put on or take off with our moods and how we feel but as the consistent actions of understanding, service and kindness we extend. In this, we will find the true substance of love. Reflection Question:In what practical ways could you put "love is an action" into practice in your daily life? Key TakeawaysLove in action translates effortlessly into serving others; display your commitment towards bettering the lives of others by showing them love in tangible and measurable ways. Understand the importance of actions by embracing the mantra "love is an action"; the Good Samaritan's story highlights this powerful truth - love is more than words, it's about proactive engagement. Exercise love in action by seizing every opportunity to serve others; this embodies the spirit of the Good Samaritan, turning empathy and concern into actions of love. The concept of love in action can revolutionise our perspective; by infusing this ethos into our daily lives, we can significantly elevate our ability to make meaningful and loving impacts on others. "Love is an action" shouldn't be just a catchphrase, but a principle guiding how we interact with the world around us. By seeking and taking opportunities to serve, we bring this concept to life, just as the Good Samaritan did. We can live our whole lives caught up in ideas of ourselves that were handed to us from others - our family, our culture, or structures that work to constrain us. But in the midst of all of that, sometimes, if we look out of the corner of our eye or listen to the quiet voice inside us, we discover that something truer to us is calling. Stepping out onto that path - whether it's the call away to something new, or a deeper way into what we're already up to - will surely expose us to intense experiences and much uncertainty before it can become a home of its own. So how can we support one another in walking the path of vocation when it is no longer possible to ignore it? This week's Turning Towards Life is hosted, as always, by Lizzie Winn and Justin Wise of Thirdspace. Turning Towards Life, a week-by-week conversation inviting us deeply into our lives, is a live 30 minute conversation hosted by Justin Wise and Lizzie Winn of Thirdspace.  Find us on FaceBook to watch live and join in the lively conversation on this episode. You can find videos of every episode, and more about the project on the Turning Towards Life website, and you can also watch and listen on Instagram, YouTube, and as a podcast on Apple, Google, Amazon Music and Spotify. Here's our source for this week: “A true vocation requires shedding anything that would impede or obscure the call. A true pilgrimage requires letting go of the very things most people try to hold onto. In seeking after what the soul desires we become pilgrims with no home but the path the soul would have us follow. As the old proverb says, “Before you begin the journey, you own the journey. Once you have begun, the journey owns you.” After all, what good is a dream that doesn't test the mettle of the dreamer? What good is a path that doesn't carry us to the edge of our capacity and then beyond that place? A true calling involves a great exposure before it can become a genuine refuge." What happens when we find out that we are not, as we had thought, separate from the world, but are instead participants in a vast context that stretches back into deep time and that holds us and makes us, even as we make it? From this vantage point perhaps we get to see that in being living, sentient, relational beings in such an inescapably relationship-rich context we are in some ways very small, and in other ways have the enormous power to shape what we pay attention to, and what we cultivate in response to the the world. And that it is exactly this capacity to choose that can make the difference between our making cultures of kindness, care and inclusion, or those that tear us apart.  This week's Turning Towards Life is hosted as always by Lizzie Winn and Justin Wise of Thirdspace. The visible and the invisible working together in common cause, - to produce  the miraculous. I am thinking  of the way the intangible air passed at speed round  a shaped wing easily holds our weight. So may we,  in this life trust to those elements we have yet to see or imagine, and find the true shape of our own self, by forming it well to the great  intangibles about us. This 25 minute meditation was sponsored by our weekly meditation group. If you enjoy it, I invite you to join us live online or offer a donation. When traversing the inner landscape, there are places bright with light and colour and places that feel quieter. Dropping deeper, what do we hear and see? In the silent spaces, can we get to know ourselves with more clarity? Knowing ourselves means knowing when we are reactive. When a trauma response might derail a balanced view. Coming home to our deep okayness, we learn to ground in a place where response is measured. More equanimity is possible. Less drama happens. Life is still real, but we are able to deal with events from this place of balance. It takes practice, but it's worth it. Image by Johannes Plenio

We are witnessing a collective transformation, all our lives are affected beyond our control. Saturn imposes its boundaries, asking us to accept a reality we have little power in changing. Pluto unleashes our deepest fears, taking us into an underworld of uncertainty, despair and denial. What is really happening? A fiery new moon conjunct Chiron, bringing suffering into our awareness, too close. Check out this new episode meant to open us up to the inevitable regeneration we are going through. We were not prepared for something at this level of impact, and as with all Saturn, Pluto, Jupiter transits, we have all one choice - to surrender and do the work. While our mundane life goes on pause, Pluto is guiding us into an inner, deeper work. On ourselves. Send me your feedback, and specific questions about your chart. Believing in Christ Equals Knowing God

Why don't people actually believe in Jesus? Jesus and the Father are One, as in One God.  We believe in Jesus so that our belief gives glory to God because God offered and gave Jesus as the sacrificial Lamb of God for the atonement and cleansing us from our sins so that we can live a life with no darkness of sin.  We believe in Christ, so we live a life upright in obedience in God.  When we believe in Jesus we are reborn and a new life in the Spirit is given to us.  When we are born again we flee from perceptions and acts of sin and wickedness that leads to death and torment.  If you have difficultly believing Jesus is the Son of God, believe in Him when we do miraculous works in His name.  Let the works of miracles in the Name of Jesus be proof that Jesus is the Son of God. The Son of God and God are One, as God. Photo by Johannes Plenio on Unsplash.
