Mabuting Balita l Mayo 20, 2024 – Lunes Ikapitong Linggo ng Karaniwang Panahon Paggunita ng Mahal na Birheng Maria , Ina ng Sambayanan Ebanghelyo: Juan 19, 25: 34 Nangakatayo naman sa tabi ng krus ni Hesus ang kanyang ina at ang kapatid na babae ng ina niya, si Mariang asawa ni Cleofas at si Maria Magdalena. Kaya pagkakita ni Hesus sa ina at sa kanyang mahal na alagad na nakatayo sa tabi, sinabi niya sa ina: “Babae, hayan ang anak mo!” Pagkatapos ay sinabi naman niya sa alagad: “Hayan ang iyong ina.” At mula sa oras na iyo'y tinanggap siya ng alagad sa kanila. Pagkaraan nito, nakita ni Hesus na natupad na ang lahat ngunit kailangang maganap ang isa pang kasulatan at sinabi n'ya: “Nauuhaw ako.” May sisidlan naman doon na puno ng mapait na alak kaya ikinabit nila sa isang isopo ang esponghang ibinabad sa alak at idiniiti nila sa kanyang bibig. Pagkasipsip ni Hesus ng alak, sinabi n'ya: “Natupad na.” At pagkayuko ng ulo, ibinigay n'ya ang espiritu. Ayaw ng mga Judio na manatili sa krus ang mga bangkay sa Araw ng Pahinga. Paghahanda ng Paskuwa noon, kaya mas dakila pa ang Araw na iyon ng Pahinga. At hiniling nila kay Pilato na baliin ang mga binti ng mga nasa krus at saka alisin ang mga bangkay. Kaya pumaroon ang mga sundalo. Binali nila ang mga binti ng una at pati ng ikalawa na kasama niyang ipinako sa krus. Pagsapit naman nila kay Hesus, nakita nilang patay na siya kaya hindi nila binali ang kanyang mga binti. Gayunma'y sinibat ng isa sa mga sundalo ang kanyang tagiliran at umagos ang dugo at tubig.   Pagninilay: Naroon si Maria sa paanan ng Krus, nakiramay siya sa sidhi ng pagdurusa ng kanyang Anak. Habang nakikiisa siya sa matinding sákit, lalong naging marubdob ang kanyang pakikinig sa bawat binibigkas ng Kanyang Anak. “Ginang, narito ang iyong anak… Narito ang iyong ina.”  Isang pag-atas ang narinig niya. Atas ng paglingap. Sa paglingap ni Maria sa mga apostol, debosyon naman sa kanya ang inaasahan sa kanila. Doon nagsimula ang special bond ng mga apostol sa ating Inang Maria. Noon at ngayon, tapat na nakikiramay at nakikilakbay siya sa atin. Tayo naman na hinirang bilang Katawan ng kanyang Anak, sino tayo para hindi maging tapat sa kanya? Sa pahayag ni Pope Francis ngayong Taon ng Panalangin, inaanyayahan tayong manahimik tulad ni Maria at pagnilayan ang kahulugan ng kasaysayan ng kaligtasan. Mabuting Balita l Mayo 9, 2024 – Huwebes Ikaanim na Linggo ng Pasko ng Pagkabuhay         Ebanghelyo: Juan 16,16-20 Sinabi ni Hesus sa kanyang mga alagad: “Sandali pa at hindi n'yo na ako muling makikita, at sandali pa at makikita n'yo rin ako.” At sinabi ng kanyang mga alagad sa isa't isa: “Ano ba itong sinasabi niya sa atin: ‘Sandali pa at hindi n'yo na ako makikita, at sandali pa at makikita n'yo rin ako' at ‘Papunta ako sa Ama'?” Kaya sinabi nila: “Ano ba itong ‘sandali'? Hindi natin alam kung ano ang sinasabi n'ya.” Alam ni Hesus na niloloob nilang tanungin s'ya at sinabi n'ya sa kanila: “Itinatanong n'yo sa isa't-isa ang ibig kong sabihin, ‘Sa sandali pa at hindi n'yo na ako makikita, at sandali lamang at makikita n'yo ako.' Talagang-talagang sinasabi ko sa inyo, tatangis kayo at tataghoy, ngunit magagalak naman ang mundo. Malulungkot kayo ngunit magiging kagalakan ang inyong kalungkutan.   Pagninilay: Sandali lang po! Madalas ito ang sagot kapag may inuutos si Mamang o si Papang sa aming magkakapatid. Kahit na may mga toka na kami sa mga gawaing bahay at alam naman na walang ibang gagawa ng naka-atas sa amin, laging “Sandali lang” ang sagot kapag ipinaalala yon. Minsan, tatlong beses nang sinabi na maghugas na ng pinagkanan, at naka-tatlong sandali lang na sagot. Nagalit na ang Papang: “Ano, tatakpan ko na lang ba ng banig ang lamesa? At dito na rin tayo kakain bukas?” Saka pa lang nagkumaripas at nagtulung-tulong kami sa pagliligpit. Sa Mabuting Balita ngayon, walong beses inulit ang sandali na lang. Sa Griego po, ito ay micron, pero dalawang sandali ang tinutukoy ni Jesus: “Sandali pa at hindi nyo na ako makikita, at sandali pa at makikita nyo rin ako.” Una, sandali na lang at magdurusa na at mamamatay si Kristo sa Krus – kaya't hindi na siya makikita ng mga alagad. Ang ikalawang sandali na lang ay ang kanyang pagkabuhay na mag-uli, ang pagtatagumpay niya laban sa kasalanan at kamatayan. Sinabi niya ito sa kanila para maging handa sila sa mga paghihirap ni Jesus na masasaksihan nila, at nang hindi sila mawalan ng pag-asa. Magbubunyi at magagalak ang mga nagpapatay sa Kanya at mapupuno ng pighati ang kanyang mga alagad. Pero pagkatapos ng tatlong araw, sila ang magdiriwang kay Kristong muling nabuhay. Kapatid/ kapanalig, sandali lang ang mga paghihirap na pinagdaraanan natin dito sa lupa. Sabi nga ni San Pablo sa mga taga-Roma: “Ang mga pagtitiis natin sa kasalukuyan ay hindi maihahambing sa kaluwalhatiang ipahahayag sa atin balang araw.” Kaya't tibayan natin ang ating loob, at huwag tayong padaig sa kawalan ng pag-asa.

Mabuting Balita l Marso 24, 2024 - Linggo ng Palaspas sa Pagpapakasakit ng Panginoon (B)    Ebanghelyo: Mk 11:1-10  Malapit na sa Jerusalem ang maraming taong sumunod kay  Hesus at pag dating nila sa  Bethfage at Bethania, sa may Bundok ng mga Olibo.Inutusan ni Hesus ang dalawa sa kanyang mga alagad, “Pumunta kayo sa kabilang ibayo. At may makikita kayo roon ng isang asnong nakatali na hindi pa nasasakyan ninuman. Kalagan ninyo ito at dalhin sa akin.  Kung may magtanong sa inyo. Ano ang ginagawa ninyo? Sabihin ninyo kailangan ng Panginoon peru ibabalik din kaagad.” Umalis sila at nakita ang asnong nakatali sa labas ng pintuan at kinalagan nila ito at sinabi sa kanila ang ilan sa naroon “Bakit ninyo kinakalagan ang Asno? Isinagot nila ang sinabi ni Hesus at pinabayaan sila ng mga tao. Kaya Dinala nila ang asno kay Hesus. At Isinapin dito ang kanilang mga balabal at naupo rito si Hesus. Marami naman ang naglatag ng kanilang mga balabal sa daan, at may iba pang nag latag ng mga sangang pinutol nila sa bukid, sumisigaw ang mga taong nangunguna at sumusunod sa kanya “Hosanna” Mapalad ang dumarating sa Ngalan ng Panginoon. Mapalad ang dumarating sa ating kaharian ng ating ninunong si David. “Hosanna ‘luwalhati sa kaitaasan       Pagninilay: Ang napakinggan nating Mabuting Balita ngayon, ang isa sa dalawang Mabuting Balitang babasahin ngayong Linggo ng Palaspas. Ang napakinggan natin ay ang pagpasok ni Hesus sa Jerusalem, kung saan nag-uumapaw sa galak at pag-asa ang mga Israelita, dahil alam nilang si Hesus ang inaasahan nilang Mesiyas, na magliligtas sa kanila sa pagkakaalipin sa mga dayuhan. Pero alam nating trahedya ang mangyayari kay Hesus, sa pagpasok niya sa Jerusalem—Magpapakasakit si Hesus sa Krus. Dito'y, ang parehas na mga tao na sumalubong kay Hesus sa pagpasok niya sa Jerusalem, habang iwinawagayway ang kanilang palaspas, ay ngayo'y iba na ang isinisigaw patungkol kay Hesus: “Ipako siya sa Krus!” “Crucify him!”  Ang iba marahil, kung wala sa mga sumisigaw ay nagtago sa takot, na baka pati sila'y madamay sa pagpaparusa kay Hesus. Ano ang sinasabi sa atin dito? Na ang pagkabalimbing ng mga taong ito, o ang kanilang kawalan ng katapatan kay Hesus, ang nagdala din kay Hesus sa kamatayan. Pero ang kabalintunaan dito'y, hindi man tayo naging tapat kay Hesus, ang kanyang katapatan naman, ang siyang nagbigay daan upang mapalaya tayo sa kamandag ng kasalanan. Katapatan ang isinukli ng Diyos sa ating kawalan ng katapatan sa kanya. Ganun tayo kamahal at inuunawa ng Diyos. Manalangin tayo. Ama, patawarin mo ako sa aking hindi pagiging tapat sa iyong mga utos. Ituro mo sa akin ang katapatan ng iyong Anak na si Hesus. Amen.    

Mabuting Balita l Marso 1, 2024 Biyernes sa Ikalawang Linggo ng Kuwaresma Ebanghelyo: Matthew 21:33-43, 45-46 Sinabi ni Hesus sa mga Punong-pari at mga Matatanda ng mga Judio: Makinig kayo sa isa pang halimbawa: May isang may-ari ng bahay na nagtanim ng ubasan; binakuran ang paligid nito, humukay para sa pisaan ng ubas, at nagatayo ng toreng bantayan. Pinaupahan niya ang ubasan sa mga magsasaka at naglakbay sa malayo. Nang malapit na ang panahon ng anihan, pinapunta ng may-ari ang kanyang mga katulong sa mga magsasaka para kubrahin ang kanyang bahagi sa ani. Ngunit sinunggaban ng mga magsasaka ang kanyang mga katulong, binugnog ang isa, pinatay ang iba at binato ang ilan. Patayin natin siya at mapapasaatin ang kanyang mana.' Kaya sinunggaban nila siya, at inilayas sa ubasan at pinatay.  Ngayon, pagdating ng may-ari ng ubasan, ano ang gagawin niya sa mga magsasaka?” “Hindi niya kaaawaanang masasamang taong iyon; pupuksain niya ang mga iyon at pauupahan ang ubasan sa ibang magsasakang magbibigay ng kanyang kaparte sa anihan.” At sumagot si Hesus: “hindi ba Ninyo nabasa sa Kasulatan? Kaya sinasabi ko sa inyo: aagawin sa inyo ang Kaharian ng Diyos at ibibigay sa isang bayang makapaglalago nito. Nang marinig ng mga Punong-pari at nga Pariseo ang mga talinhagang ito, naunawaan nila na sila ang pinatutungkulan ni Hesus. Huhulihin na sana nila siya ngunit natakot sila sa mga tao na kumikilala sa kanya bilang propeta. In this episode the team welcomes a roundtable panel to discuss the 2022 scientific paper The Hopewell airburst event 1699-1567 years ago (252-383 CE). This controversial paper has since been refuted by our panel members. In this interview the panel will present all of the information surrounding the 2022 paper and present their evidence for refuting the claim that the Hopewell culture was greatly affected or even destroyed by a cosmic event. Our panel consists of lead author Dr. Kevin Nolan. Dr. Nolan is the Director and Senior Archaeologist in the Applied Anthropology Laboratories (AAL), an institute within the College of Sciences and Humanities at Ball State University. His research specializations include: Prehistoric Archaeology, CRM, GIS, Ohio River Valley, Paleoenvironments, Soil geochemistry, and Geophysics. Next, we welcome Dr. Tony Krus. Dr. Krus is an Assistant Professor at the University of South Dakota in the Department of Anthropology and Sociology. His current research focuses on chronological modeling, human-environmental relationships, and archaeological fieldwork of late-Holocene communities, primarily in the Eastern Woodlands and the Plains. We also welcome, Dr. Tim McCoy: Dr. McCoy is a Curator of Meteorites at the Smithsonian Institution. His work primarily focuses on using meteorites to understand the differentiation of asteroids in the early Solar System and he has worked on 6 robotic spacecraft missions. Relative to this project, he has studied artifacts made from iron meteorites, including Hopewell beads from Havana, IL. Finally, we round out the panel with Dr. Laura Murphy is an Associate Professor of Anthropology at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, where she teaches many archaeology courses, including the popular "Archaeological Myths, Frauds, and Controversies" course. She is a geoarchaeologist specializing in paleoenvironmental reconstruction using soils. Dr. Murphy holds her Bachelor's degree from The Ohio State University, and her MA and PhD from the University of Kansas. She is also a former National Park Ranger who worked at Hopewell Culture National Historical Park in Chillicothe, Ohio. Boboy Francisco Philippine Mountain Man If you have climbed pretty much any mountain in the Philippines you can be sure Boboy and the UP Mountaineers, the org he co-founded has had some hand in it. Whether it was a first ascent or training the first guides to these mountains or even simply putting these areas on the outdoor adventure map he and those who have followed his footsteps have had an enormous influence on how the outdoor scene in the Philippines has developed. Starting his outdoor journey at a very early age in what was then the wild backyards of Krus na Ligas in UP Diliman he and a group of close friends went on micro adventures often using rudimentary equipment from their parent's closets and whatever food they could scrounge up. They would point their fingers to the mountains of Montalban and Rizal and go exploring and that was how Boboy's wonderlust for the mountains and adventure started. It is a great privilege for me to share this conversation with Boboy who is such a treasure throve of Philippine mountain memories. I can only imagine the world that he grew up exploring and am extremely grateful for the path they broke for people like myself that followed them into the outdoors.
