The gurls discuss some of the pop culture topics of the week including the Katt Williams interview that broke the internet, a certain rapper who always has the gurls name in his mouth for some reason, and Miss Karmo gives her take on the Real Housewives. This week's throwback track is "You Mean the World to Me" by the great songstress Toni Braxton, with other musical tracks from Ladies who can blow including "Let No Man Put Asunder" by First Choice, "Who Can I Run to" by Xscape and "Automatic" by the Pointer Sisters.

The group produced the Soul/disco hits like “Let No Man Put Asunder” and “Dr. Love”. The group is called First Choice. You hear about a lot of female groups splitting up, and you have to wonder what has kept this group together. First Choice said that it hasn't been that difficult for them. They had love and respect for one another. They respected one another's gifts and talents and space. When one steps in, the others sit back to rest. I've never heard of a female group like First Choice. They are a genuine group. In anything that a group does together, respect and love is needed. That is what makes a group last. From the last time I've heard about the group, none of the members of the group left music. The advice that First Choice has to the female young entertainers today is don't sell out and sell yourself short of your gifts. Keep your integrity. If you're not selling sex, you can't sell anything is not true. You have gifts. Take the advice from the group First Choice. They Know. I'm Gail Nobles. Today's topic - First Choice….
¹ First Choice is an American girl group vocal music trio from Philadelphia. The group produced the Soul/disco hits "Armed and Extremely Dangerous", "Smarty Pants", "The Player", "Love Thang", "Let No Man Put Asunder" and "Doctor Love". They were signed to soul label Philly Groove Records and to disco label Gold Mind in addition to Warner Bros. Records and Salsoul. Though the group went through various lineups, Rochelle Flemming and Annette Guest were the two consistent member up until they disbanded in 1980. Other members included Wardell Piper, Joyce Jones, Ursula Herring and Debbie Martin. Though they never had a major Top 40 hit, they did generate two big Soul hits "Armed and Extremely Dangerous" (#11) and "The Player" (#7). Salsoul Records who had acquired their back catalog released "Let No Man Put Asunder" from their 1977 album Delusions, which was highly regarded and considered their best. That song was later sampled by Mary J. Blige sparking renewed interest in the group who had a massive influence on 90's House Music from renowned DJs Todd Terry, Danny Tenaglia and David Morales. Soon the majority of their hits were remixed by other well-known DJs including the more recent faithful renderings by Dr. Packer (a personal Party Favorz favorite). After listening to this set multiple times, it became clear to me that these songs are better-suited for House Music and now Disco House no matter how simple some of them may be. There's no denying the infectiousness of tracks like "Doctor Love," "Love Thang," and "Ain't He Bad." The songs included in this tribute set are timeless classics no matter how they were received at the time of their release. After all, good music is simply just that and these ladies deserve all the accolades they've received. It is with great pleasure and immense respect that Party Favorz inducts First Choice into the Diva Hall of Fame. ¹ Wikipedia Album : First Choice | The Diva Series Genre : Disco House Year : 2021 Total Time : 1:54:45 1. Party Favorz is back with our final funky disco house shit set of the year and it's chock full of Disco House Music treasures. We always look forward to new music from Purple Disco Machine and his original track with Mind Enterprises "Exotica" fills that void. The songs has a fairly simple pulsating electronic beat complete with a vocoder to give it an 80's futuristic feel. After several listens — it became clear to me that PDM needs to collaborate with Pet Shop Boys for a match made in heaven. [youtube v="WHfdxHIy0m8"] Another personal favorite is Mark Knight and Jem Cooke's "Drowning In the Dark." It appears this song is not getting the attention it deserves so I'm here to plug it because it steps out of the more progressive work Mark has been putting out for awhile now and drowns us in an ocean disco delights. DJ Meme is back with Inaya Day and Aline Rocha on the wonderful "Satisfy" where Yam Who? reworks the original into a crowd pleaser. There's lot's of classic reworks and samples in this set like Liquid Gold's "Dance Yourself Dizzy" where you'd never know it from the original, Kurd Maverick & The Cube Guys' "It's Not Over" samples the First Choice classic "Let No Man Put Asunder" (more on these ladies coming in 2021), Adri Block & Paul Parsons do faithful housed-up rendition of the Al Wilson Soul classic "Show and Tell" that delivers in spades, and Christopher Williams & Carolyn Griffey remake the D-Train classic "You're the One For Me" with LEGEND Steve 'Silk' Hurley doing remix honors. Hot on the heels of the Bee Gees documentary that debuts on HBO on Saturday, Ian Ossia is back with a total rework of "You Should Be Dancing" bringing the massive disco classic into the 21st century with "Moves At Midnight." Overall, this set much more soulful than previous efforts while retaining its disco roots, which is perfect for escaping from the hell that is 2020. We're not quite done with the year just yet. I'll start rolling out the biggest dance songs of 2020 with the annual Top Dance Club Songs of the Year shortly before capping off this memorable year (for all the wrong reasons) with our annual Blow Your Own Horn that takes us into 2021 where a whole new fresh hell awaits. Back in the peak of the “disco sucks” movement, Ted Nugent-adoring redneck crowds would promote “disco demolition derbys”, where they would proceed to torch piles of disco records. They were expressing their hatred of a music that was: a) pansexual; b) of black, Latin and gay origins; c) produced by studio boffins; d) exuded cosmopolitan savoir faire. Disco was, then, also ‘dying’ in the mainstream, thanks to an onslaught of extremely cheesy tunes that clogged the airwaves. Unfortunately, to a lot of people this is the disco they know: Village People-style crap, bad karaoke fodder. Disco, of course, was so much more than that. It not only carried on breathing, thanks to a creative and thriving underground, but also became the blueprint for the next dancefloor revolution just round the corner — namely house music. To this day, it remains one of the key influences in the music many of us dance to. This podcast pays tribute to this magnificent movement by ‘demolishing’ disco in a much more positive way: mixing, editing, juxtaposing and mashing up new and old interpretations. From the galactic bliss of Orlando Riva Sound to the symphonic sass of the Salsoul Orchestra, from the synthetic homages of Lindstrom & Prins Thomas to the shiny funkiness of Le Grand David, from the leftfield proto-garage of Loose Joints to the classic italo sounds of Klein & MBO, there is a bit of everything in here. You'll also hear Chicken Lips, Giorgio Moroder, Jermaine Jackson, Donna Summer, Dinosaur, Padded Cell and, erm, The Glitter Band (funky as fuck, check it out!). Brazilians make two decisive contributions: Azymuth's anthemic Jazz Carnival and Jorge Ben's discofied samba Taj Mahal (which Rod Stewart stole for Do Ya Think I'm Sexy — Ben sued and won, you'll be pleased to know). Before you ask, this mix was done in Ableton Live, so those ever-shifting live drummer beats from the 1970s would behave and sit where they were told.
