Shubostar's RA Podcast begins and ends with video game music. (The beginning kind of sounds like Mary Poppins, actually.) Lots of DJs and producers play or make music that emulates the nostalgic sounds of old-school gaming, but the South Korean artist goes direct to the source. Before falling in love with dance music, she went to an animation-focused high school and learned how to make video games—so it's basically in her musical DNA. And while her DJing isn't as out-there as you might expect from that description, '90s and '00s Japanese video game (and anime) soundtracks offer a good idea of what her playing sounds like: lush, synthetic and a little naive, full of wonder and positive vibes. With releases on labels like Permanent Vacation, Internasjonal and her own uju Records, Shubostar is also a student of cosmic space disco, inspired by artists like Daniele Baldelli, Lindstrøm and Prins Thomas. Lately she's been rubbing elbows with Âme and Dixon. Sound Support, made up of Lars Dales & Lorenz Rhode, released their first two EP son Prins Thomas' Internasjonal, then appeared on House of Disco, Let's Play House and Permanent Vacation. Now arriving on Will Saul's Aus Music imprint, the duo have delivered an EP spanning House, Italo, Electro and beyond, showcasing their unique ability to craft fun and well-considered dance music. To help showcase this release, they've stepped in to provide us with a stunning guest mix. "We made this mix in the studio together and we had a blast finding a bit more house oriented selection. Our AUS and Toy Tonics releases just dropped and they're both more house than our regular stuff, so our heads are in that space. We've tried to make it fun, not too lighthearted, and finished with a bang (3 of our own tracks back to back)."

Mauricio Rebolledo is one of those veteran artists who has stood the test of time. He can play Burning Man, go back-to-back with DJ Tennis and mentor young producers with unwavering finesse, staying true to his signature sound of sparse, psychedelic chuggers. Where many of his peers have embraced a more commercial sound, the Mexican artist likes to keep it weird, opting for touches of Krautrock and hazy atmospherics in both his sets and on his albums. He tends to be associated with tribal drums and screwy trance, but in reality, the Hippie Dance cofounder and long-time Kompakt affiliate is a man of many influences—as heard on his RA Podcast. Whimsical interludes of French dance pop and retro synth-wave are interspersed with shoegazey electronics ("Dive" by Pale Blue) as well as plenty of his own productions, which blur the lines between minimal house and techno. This is a hypnotic, brooding journey that starts and ends with versions of Justus Köhncke's "Elan," which adds to the mix's loopy feel. (There's also a Prins Thomas remix thrown in for good measure.) Drewutnia Drwala Drągala była pierwszą polską audycją, w której prezentowana była nowa kształtująca się muzyka elektroniczna mająca korzenie w house, techno i industrialu. Audycja zapoczątkowała swój żywot w 1992 roku na antenie Radia Gdańsk, by przenieść się do nastawionego na muzykę alternatywną Radia ARnet a finalnie zakończyć emisję w 2000 roku na antenie przekształconego w ESKA Trójmiasto radia. Audycja miała swój internetowy epizod w postaci kilku podcastów produkowanych w roku 2001 a publikowanych przez trójmiejski serwis klubowy, by powrócić z kilkoma epizodami w tej formie pod koniec 2013 roku dzięki usługom streamingowym. Głównym celem audycji, w każdym z okresów aktywności, była promocja nowej muzyki, której mianownikiem jest elektroniczne instrumentarium. Siłą programu okazali się artyści zaczynający w ostatniej dekadzie XX wieku swą działalnośc jak Underworld, Orbital, Chemical Brothers, Autechre wyznaczający nowe trendy w muzyce, a którzy są obecni i szanowani do dziś. Oczywiście przez ponad dwie dekady zmieniło się pokolenie artystów, środki, mentalność a tym samym odbiorca. Elektronika jest wszechobecna w produkcji muzyki, stała się częścią pop-kultury i nie można już mówić o odrębności czy szczególnym charakterze muzyki elektronicznej. Drewutnia dD w nowej formule bazować będzie na odpowiedniej selekcji nowego materiału z wątkami sięgającymi przeszłości, powracając do albumów i wykonawców, których wydawnictwa mają swe wznowienia czy remastery. Obecnie trduno mówić o czystości stylistycznej, dlatego ta audycja na pewno nie będzie prezentować jasnych podziałów na techno, house czy trance, a sięgać także po nowe nurty take jak indie i emotronika. Poza emisją głównie nowych utworów, w drugiej godzinie spodziewajcie się tematycznie spiętego DJ miksu prezentującego wytwórnię, kolektyw, agencję, producenta (lub grupę producentów), styl lub koncept stylistyczny połączony z informacjami.     Seven years ago I did a mix called "Space Rock" that is unique in the Low Light Mixes catalog. It's a collection of instrumental tunes that are guitar driven and are a bit spacey, a little prog rock, and with some post-rock tossed in as well. So here is "Fractal Panorama - Guitar Space Rock". It's a set of new and old instrumentals with the same vibe as the first mix. I was happy to have dug up some really old cuts from 1972, '73 & '74. I was especially psyched to have stumbled on the Richard Pinhas homage to Robert Fripp with the track "In the Wake of King Fripp" from 1974. But my favorite cut in the mix is "Slowburn" by Sonar With David Torn. It's got this great, slightly menacing vibe to it. I guess I'm too lazy to write up comments about all the music except to say that there's a lot of good stuff there. Magnus International is a Norwegian producer who is at the forefront of the new wave. Full Pupp have long since been doing their own thing, pushing the boundaries of sonics and modern day club music. It was on Prins Thomas' label that he chose to release his debut LP following a stream of singular EP's. His sound dabbles in the warm textures and sits somewhere between the realms of house and disco. This mix is an exploration into his musical inspirations and a showcase of what you might hear him playing in the club at present.

You're driving, and it's dark and it's raining, and you're on the edge of the city and you've been driving all night. And you took a turn back there but you're not sure it was the right turn. But you took the turn anyway, just kept going in that direction. And somehow it looks sort of familiar, so you just keep driving. Hello. Excuse me. Can you tell me where I am? You've been on this road before. You can read the signs. You can feel your way. You can do this in your sleep. This is a mix I did for the good folks at Intergalactic.FM.  Head over there for this and a ton of other mixes and radio shows. Like most of my mixes there is a starting point or inspiration that gets the ball rolling.  In this case it was the Laurie Anderson track "Lighting Out For The Territories" from her United States Live album.  The cut is so atmospheric and moody.  It immediately conjures up images of lonely highways, lonely songs and tires thumping on the pavement. I had a hard time deciding between cuts that have a lonely country, twangy feel and songs that are more pulsating, driving electronic in nature.  In the end I ended up with a little bit of everything.  The two tracks with vocals definitely have a lonely, plaintive quality.  That same feel is also present in the Daniel Lanois tunes and the instrumental from The Antlers(whose new album is fantastic by the way). The tracks from Prins Thomas and Brian Reitzell are of the more electronic driving type.  Both have an old kraut rock feel to them that I love.  A totally different feel is found in pieces by Terminal Sound System and Talvihorros, sort of weird Twins Peaks vibe.  Which makes sense because the Talvihorros track is actually the Twin Peaks theme.  Most of the rest of the tunes just sort of felt right for a theme of night driving. Laurie Anderson makes 4 or 5 appearances in the mix.  All are variations of the opening track. Usually with other rhythms or road sounds added in. Enjoy.
