Welcome to Part 1 of our JABBIC, Judge A Book By Its Cover, preseason show for season 43. Similar to last season, we have all new players, so we have very little information to go on when theorizing how we think they will perform. We have shared our early thoughts on each of the castaways including how well we think they will do in the overall game to kick off another season of watching Survivor together. Now it is your turn. We want to hear what you think about the 18 castaways and how you think they'll approach the high risk advantages, Shot in the Dark, and bonding hikes up the hill at Shipwreck wheel island for the next 3 months. Who's your pick for final four and the sole Survivor? Send in your predictions, keep it to 3 minutes. Get your responses to us by noon PST on Saturday, September 17th. Try not to think too long about it, just go with your first impression. Check out Paul's Visual Roster to help you collect your thoughts. Welcome to Part 1 of our JABBIC show for season 37, Survivor David vs. Goliath. JABBIC stands for Judge A Book By Its Cover, and that is exactly what we do in the preseason. We do not get a lot of information to work with, but that doesn't stop us from trying to guess who will be good at the game and who will flop. We have shared our early thoughts on each of the castaways including how well we think they will do in the overall game as well as some details we gathered from the interviews to kick off another season of watching Survivor together. Now it is your turn. We want to hear what you think about the 20 new castaways that we look forward to entertaining and surprising us for the next 3 months. Let us know how well you think they will or won't do this season. We want to hear about who you had the strongest reaction to. Who's going to be voted out first? Who's your pick for final four and the sole Survivor? Send in your predictions, keep it to 3 minutes. Get your responses to us by noon PST on Saturday, September 22nd. It's only four days till the first episode of Survivor Philippines airs. It can be challenging to recognize any of the 15, well 13 if you subtract the sitcom and baseball stars, castaways at the beginning of the season, but we've got an answer for that to enhance your Survivor viewing experience. It's called the JABBIC, "Judge A Book By Its Cover", shows. We get started before the first episode airs and record our early thoughts on this new group and make predictions about the degree of success they will experience in the game. Through this process, we find that at least a few of them will stand out from the beginning and it greatly improves the odds of recognizing your early favorites. This is Part 2 of our "Judge a Book by its Cover" show. Nineteen fans, just like you, recorded their perspective on the new cast including their choice of favorites, who's most likely to get voted out first, make the merge, have a shot at the final tribal council as well as who has what it takes to win it all. We want to thank and acknowledge everyone who contributed to another great JABBIC show. That is four in a row now that appear to have self destructed in Tribal Council. The theme for this season continues to be, "Hey look at me. Watch me talk my way right into being voted out!" How would you play it if you were in Marty's shoes? Would you choose to keep a physically weaker player that would vote with you over someone that could probably do more to help your tribe win a challenge? What did you think of Brenda's choice to let Chase know that NaOnka has the HII? Would you have kept that to yourself? Did she really gain anything by doing that? Do you think NaOnka was succesful in intimidating Kelly B and Alina? Do you think NaOnka will quit if the odds turn against her? Jill is susposedly a super fan like you. How would you rate her game to date? How do you think the tribe shuffle will affect the game? Here are the tribes after episode 4. La Flor:Alina, Benry, Brenda, Chase, Jud, Kelly B, Kelly S, NaOnka, and Sash Espada:Dan, Holly, Jane, Jill, Marty, Tyrone and Yve Jo Ann and Stacy both think Dan will not survive the impending tribal shuffle. The third episode of Survivor Nicaragua certified NaOnka's role as this season's top villain, but as always we get to hear different perspectives on this when you get the chance to add your voice to the show. Most found her actions and words distasteful but a few found something to like about her approach to the game that casts her actions in a different light. Many were disappointed that Marty succeeded in getting rid of Jimmy Johnson, but most enjoyed Jimmy's time on the show. We've got all that and more including a special message from Gillian Larson about her new project, Reality Rally, along with her take on this season's cast. For each episode, we provide 3 podcasts: an episode recap, an interview with the castoff and a chance for Survivor fans like yourself to sound off on what you saw and how you think the castaways are fairing in the game. Twenty six shared their thoughts on episode 3 and predictions for what we'll see next. We want to thank and acknowledge everyone who contributed to another great Listener Feedback show. The personal drama and overall intensity dropped a bit in episode 3, but there was still plenty of action to take in. Following in the shoes of Wendy and Shannon, it was Jimmy T's turn this week to demonstrate that he doesn't know when to stop talking. The big difference was that he was fortunate to have someone else in line in front of him to take the fall at Tribal Council. How does NaOnka score on your Survivor Villain scale? How would you rate her if she shoves Kelly B down or follows through on her threat to dump her prosthetic leg in the fire? Would you have shared the HII if you were in Marty's position? Do you think he really had a choice? Can you think of any way that Alina could save her self from being voted out next on La Flor? Who do you think will step up next to be the leader of Espada? Has Holly recovered or can we expect another meltdown? Here are the tribes after episode 3. La Flor:Alina, Benry, Brenda, Chase, Jud, Kelly B, Kelly S, NaOnka, and Sash Espada:Dan, Holly, Jane, Jill, Jimmy T, Marty, Tyrone and Yve Jo Ann thinks Dan's bum knee and overall lackluster performance will buy him a ticket to Loser's Lodge. The second episode of Survivor Nicaragua was loaded with drama and action. Team crazy made an appearance and we got to see the irrational side of many of the castaways. You voted NaOnka, Holly and the reveal of Dan's $1600 shoes among the all star moments. No one seemed sorry to see Shannon go, but a few thought it might have been strategic error. The fans of Jimmy Johnson kept singing his praises but are worried that Marty will target him as an early vote out choice. Fabio continues to entertain and kept many of us asking, "is he really that simple or is it an act"? For each episode, we provide 3 podcasts: an episode recap, an interview with the castoff and a chance for Survivor fans like yourself to sound off on what you saw and how you think the castaways are fairing in the game. Tonight's episode was evidently sponsored by "The Dark Side of Human Nature". We've got at least 3 castaways this season that were ready to get ugly with others at the drop of a hat. Do you think that might be due to Russell's influence on the game? If you were on a tribe with Holly or NaOnka, how would you take advantage of their erratic behavior? Would you include them in your alliance or vote them off as soon as you had a chance? Jill and Marty partnered to discover the first HII. How do you think it will affect their chances in the game? Do you think Jimmy Johnson is really calling the shots on Espada? Will La Flor follow Brenda's advice and use the MOP in the next challenge? Here are the tribes after episode 2. La Flor:Alina, Benry, Brenda, Chase, Jud, Kelly B, Kelly S, NaOnka, and Sash Espada:Dan, Holly, Jane, Jill, Jimmy J, Jimmy T, Marty, Tyrone and Yve We both think that La Flor is in a full on meltdown and that NaOnka will be the next to go. The first episode of Survivor Nicaragua has aired, and it's time to see what you thought about it. People were pretty unanimous in the enjoyment of Jud's goofy antics. The viewers choice, Jimmy T, saw his approval ratings plummet. Per your request Jimmy T, we have our pencils and notebooks out and so far your score is a big 'ol goose egg. Opinions were split on Jimmy Johnson: gimmick who needs to go vs Espada's #1 cheerleader and an inspiration to all. Welcome back! We got a great start with Episode 1 of Survivor Nicaragua tonight. It began with a classic psyche manuever leading the castaways to think the tribes had already been chosen as they made their first entrance on the show. Oddly enough, the only person perceptive enough to guess the truth behind how the tribe membership would actually be determined ended up being voted out. It looks like the challenges may actually be balanced this time. Maybe the older, Espada tribe will actually have an equal opportunity to win. Do you think Jimmy Johnson really is a fan? Some of the things we heard him say in tonight's episode really left me wondering. Do you think the "men's alliance" started by Chase and Shannon will amount to anything? How long before Jud gets seriously hurt and takes himself out of the game on a medical? It seems very likely that the Espada tribe will use the Medallion of Power, aka the MoP, in the next challenge. Do you think it will be enough to help them win and avoid another tribal council? Here are the tribes after episode 1. La Flor:Alena, Benry, Brenda, Chase, Jud, Kelly B, Kelly S, NaOnka, Sash and Shannon Espada:Dan, Holly, Jane, Jill, Jimmy J, Jimmy T, Marty, Tyrone and Yve Jo Ann is hoping that Espada will vote out Dan next. Stacy thinks that Jimmy Johnson is the next best choice. Who is your pick for the next one to be voted out? We've got several ways you can reach us. Welcome Back! Thanks for joining us for the kickoff of the 15th season of Survivor. This marks our 6th season of what we refer to as one of our life's simple pleasures. Basically, we enjoy watching Survivor and talking about it with our friends, and we begin each season with our "Judge a Book by its Cover" show. We want to hear what you think about the 16 new contestants for Survivor China. This early in the game, there's really not a lot to go on which makes this show so much fun. Study the pictures at cbs.com, read their bios and let us know how well you think they will do this season. Who's your pick for the first one voted out? Go out on a limb, and tell us who you think will win it all. Which ones do you think will make the merge and who just doesn't stand a chance? If you're interested in participating in the Jo Ann & Stacy Show Survivor Fantasy League(JSFL), send an email to jsfl.admin@gmail.com with JSFL in the subject line to let us know, and we'll add you to the roster and send you additional instructions. The prize this season will be similar to last season, e.g. a Survivor t-shirt or Survivor DVD Blast game. Not sure what the JSFL is? Check out the links section below for the rules we used last season along with the results. We've got several ways you can reach us. You can call and leave a voicemail at 206-350-JASS(5277). You can record an audio comment and attach it or just type up a quick text message and send it to us via email at joannandstacyshow@gmail.com. Podsafe music used in this show: "Back to the Basic" by Madsumo
Let's talk Survivor Fiji! If you're a hardcore Survivor Fan you're going to love this preview show. This is the biggest show we've ever done, weighing in a 1 hour 41 minutes. You might need to listen in chunks, but it's worth it. We've never had a more diverse take on the new Survivors. It's amusing, insightful, and delightful. We've got listener feedback from: Josh, Carol, Denver Dave, Fancy, Kris, Brad, Paul, Bonnie, Hanna, and Bob. Two quick corrections: Listener Josh is in Wisconsin, and Listener Bob picked Becky as first out last season (just like we did), not Ozzy. He picked Sekou as the Sole Survivor. :) If you're interested in participating in the Jo Ann & Stacy Show Survivor Fantasy League(JSFL), send an email to jsfl.admin@gmail.com with JSFL in the subject line to let us know, and we'll add you to the roster and send you additional instructions. Shownotes :: (show 054) :: (website) :: (podcast feed) :: (direct download) :: (direct iTunes link) Live and at AnimeNEXT!!!! ...recorded live on June 17th, 2006. This week we were live at AnimeNEXT 2006, and in front of a LIVE audience (small, but an awesome bunch), plus a audience member guest hosted (corbin)!! Iron Dragon, McKeed, Cardinal Richelieu, and of course Jefferson were all there. This podcast wasn't without technical problems like cosplay in the background, the AC above our mics, and mic feedback... but it was still an awesome time. Listen to the LIVE cranzyness recorded at AnimeNEXT! Hear Bryce do some live random interviews, and Mckeed be drunk! Brian Price even stopped in for a moment... This week is good stuff, so download and listen! NOTE: I cut the voicemails out of the show this week, because you could barely hear them over the noise, and the LIVE audience could barely hear them without mic feedback, so we will hold them over for the next show, when we can play them in the studio without technical issues. Don't be nasty, or rude... this might not last as a segment idea, but we thought we'd give it a try. OG "guess the character in the envelope" ContestBryce had a great idea for a contest... (make sure to get your guesses in before Thursday morning... before we head out for AnimeNEXT) The cast has picked an anime character, wrote it down on a piece of paper, and sealed it up in an envelope. You the listener must figure out who the "character in the envelope" is... For this first week we just made the announcement of the contest. The prize will be a pack of goodies, a Lisa Ray CD, a T-Shirt from J-List, and maybe something more *hint*hint*cough*... So you ask what are the rules? Well they're pretty simple. First off, we will only accept one guess per email, once a week. If you put more than one guess, in an email, we will only take the first guess. You cannot enter more then once an week, and not more then once per email. Please pay attention to the use of the word "character", it could be a person, animal, car, mech, bryce, paul, a tree, a rock (assuming they are portrayed as "character" some how), almost anything. Each week will reveal a little more about the "character in the envelope" in an anime, until some one guesses it right, and wins. As usual listen to the show for more details, and email your guesses to: otaku.generation@gmail.com, and use the subject line of: OG CHARACTER IN THE ENVELOPE CONTEST Weekly News by Bryce :: (news@otakugeneration.net) DS a huge success Gold Farming is banned in all kingdoms Kenshin is DONE Nielsen Vidscan and facts Promos / Break AnimeNEXT (anime convention, June 16th - 18th, 2006) The Adult Spaces Child Free Podcast Eeeepers Choice Podcast Brother Love There's So Many Ways I Can Kill You :: by Madsumo :: (now on music.podshow.com) Osaka Rap :: by Alex Brooke :: (now on music.podshow.com) Push :: by Brother Love :: (now on music.podshow.com) Weekly Reviews by Aaron :: (reviews@otakugeneration.net) (anime) :: Correcter Yui, (link 2) (movie) :: Garuda (amerimanga) :: East Coast Rising Nickname ME! by Paul :: (nickname@otakugeneration.net)Keep them coming people... We're podcasting tonight with our old friend Kevin who was our guest chef many podcasts back. He joined us on last weeks SF podcasters meetup and gives us his outsiders opinion. We also recap some of our trip to canada as well as prep Kev on his upcoming trip. Longer than usual, but worth it.
