Dr. Omendra Ratnu's book on the Maharanas of Mewar is celebration of great valour and commitment to Dharma displayed by the Sisodia Maharanas of Mewar. Sanjay Dixit has Dr. Ratnu with him to talk about his book.
Typically when we speak of Mewar, it usually ends with Rana Pratap and the Battle of Haldighati. Not much is really known about his succesors, nor his son Amar Singh. While Pratap's rivalry with Akbar is well known and chronicled, not known is the fact that his son Amar Singh fought an equally long war with Jahangir, before he was forced to surrender.
On 5th December, some of the interesting events that took place were: 1653 : Maharana Jai Singh of Mewar was born. 1950 : Sikkim became India's protectorate. https://chimesradio.com http://onelink.to/8uzr4g https://www.facebook.com/chimesradio/ https://www.instagram.com/vrchimesradio/ Support the show: https://www.patreon.com/chimesradio See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

An exclusive interview of Baha'ud'din Mohiuddin Dagar only on Raaggiri. Bahauddin Dagar is 20th generation of The Dagar Gharana. He plays Rudra Veena with the Dagarbani style. The Dagar Gharana Biography The Dagar gharana (or Dagar vani) is a tradition of the classical dhrupad genre of Hindustani classical music spanning 20 generations, tracing back to Swami Haridas (15th century), and including Behram Khan of Jaipur (1753-1878). For some generations its members were associated with the courts of Jaipur, Udaipur, and Mewar. The main feature of the Dagar gharana is sophisticated, subtle, serene and rigorous exposition of alap-jor-jhala, including great attention to microtonal inflection delineating the subtleties of raga often otherwise overlooked or lost. Until the 20th century, it was exclusively a vocal genre (at least in performance), but since the innovations of Zia Mohiuddin Dagar to the rudra vina, that instrument has found a place in performance, following closely the inflections and style of the vocal technique. The genre was carried into the 20th century by seven Dagar brothers and cousins: Aminuddin Dagar and Nasir Moinuddin (Senior Dagar Brothers), Rahim Fahimuddin Dagar, Nasir Zaheeruddin and Nasir Fayyazuddin (Junior Dagar Brothers), H. Sayeeduddin Dagar, and the brothers Zia Mohiuddin Dagar and Zia Fariduddin Dagar. Zia Mohiuddin (rudra vina) and Zia Fareeduddin (vocal) were largely responsible for training today's practitioners, the most prominent of whom include Ritwik Sanyal, Pushparaj Koshti, Wasifuddin Dagar, Bahauddin Dagar, Asit Kumar Banerjee, Uday Bhawalkar, and the Gundecha Brothers. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/raag-giri/message
Dr. Omendra Ratnu explodes the longest-running falsehood in India's history that Maharana Pratap lost the Battle of Haldighati (1576) to Akbar's forces. Based on authentic records from Mewar, he establishes that Maharana Pratap actually won the battle by accomplishing all his objectives in this conversation with Sanjay Dixit.
Veer Hammir founded the Sisodia dynasty of Mewar and began the reign of the Ranas.

Maharana Pratap was the king of Mewar in Rajasthan. He was the first son of Raja Uday Singh, thus he was trained to become a king since childhood. As a child Maharana Pratap was a very friendly and good natured. While on expeditions with his father he made many friends in local tribal kids who taught him surviving skills for hard times. After passing away of his father, Maharana Pratap became the king. With his crown, came his long struggle against the Mughals. At that time Akbar was the king of Mughals, they were expanding their empire and wanted to conquer Gujarat through Mewar. Their policy was to make Indian kings bow to them and give them a prominent position in Mughal empire. Many kings gave in to Akbar, but Maharana Pratap stood his ground, not willing to give up Mewar. This lead to the famous battle of Haldighati. This extensive battle was won by Mughals, and an injured Maharana Pratap was carried by his beloved horse Chetak, who took the famous leap of 22 feet, which saved the king's life but proved fatal for the horse. After that Maharana Pratap lived in jungle for years, depending on the surviving skills learnt in childhood from his tribal friends, and preparing to reclaim Mewar from the Mughals. Ultimately another battle took place and Maharana Pratap reclaimed most of his land from the Mughals. King Akbar, who has started respecting Maharana Pratap by this time, withdrew from Mewar. Maharana Pratap ruled the kingdom till his last breath and was succeeded by his son Rana Amar Singh.
