One of the largest deals to acquire a D2C brand took place in January this year. India's largest manufacturer of consumer good, Hindustan Unilever acquired the skincare company Minimalist, a 90% shareholding for nearly Rs 3000 crores.Homegrown startup beauty brands have been on a roll in India. Scores and scores of new age skincare brands have cropped up since the pandemic and all of them harp on the science of it. And their whole appeal is transparency. Transparency about the ingredients that go into each of their products.Among all of them, Minimalist is the one that really stands out. It is an active ingredients based skincare company that sells things like niacinamide, retinol, Vit C, glycolic acid, and salicylic acid. It launched around the end of 2020, and within a span of eight months, it built a 1000 crore rupee  business. What's even more surprising that the brand has remained in the green, meaning profitable, from the very first month itself. For years, legacy brands like, HUL, Ponds, and Loreal have been selling products with similar ingredient--the only difference being they either didn't launch them in India or the kept the names hidden away in tiny fonts at the back of the bottles. It was Minimalist that came around and broke that mould. And now, seeing the success of brands like Minimalist, legacy brands are rethinking their strategy.Case in point: Hindustan UnileverThe company's has been wanting to turn its beauty and well-being portfolio into a “high-growth" premium category for a while now and the acquisition of Minimalist is a big step in that direction. But how did Minimalist manage something that a giant like HUL couldn't?Tune in.**This episode was first published on January 27, 2025Daybreak is now on WhatsApp at +918971108379. The Hindustan Aeronautics Limited - India's premier aerospace manufacturing company - is in focus this week due to factors some argue are beyond its control. A fatal crash of a Dhruv Mk III Advanced Light Helicopter has led to a fleet wide grounding across all the services that operate it. And, in an unrelated development, the Indian Air Force expressed frustration with the delays in the deliveries of the Tejas fighter jet. Both the machines in question are the crown jewels of the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited's efforts design, develop and build indigenous aircraft for India's military. The Hindustan Aeronautics Limited plays an outsized role in India's military aviation and the two developments have once again put the spotlight on the government-owned behemoth's ability to deliver quality on time. And so, on this episode of In Our Defence, host Dev Goswami and defence expert Shiv Aroor take a close look at the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and all that's wrong - and also what's right - with the organisation. The two explore what the HAL needs to do to in order to shrug off its bureaucratic past and move into the competitive future where its position as India's sole supplier of military aviation equipment is at threat. Dev and Shiv also take a particular close look as Indian Air Force chief Air Chief Marshal AP Singh's recent lament of not getting the Tejas fighter jets on time. The Air Force chief unusually strong comments raised a few eyebrows. What's behind the sentiment? Tune in for this and more to the latest episode of In Our Defence. Why FMCG giant Hindustan Unilever has never really screamed for ice cream

There's a running joke at Hindustan Unilever's Mumbai Headquarters. If a new hire is assigned to the ice cream division, it's immediately clear that they aren't in the company's inner circle. But if you're handed Surf Excel, Brooke Brond, or Glow & Lovely, it means you are in the big leagues.Right now, that pecking order is clearer than ever. Just last month, the FMCG giant went ahead and decided to demerge its ice cream business. The decision has already received in principal approval from the company's board. Assuming that it clears all the other approvals and procedures, it would mean that refrigerator staples like Magnum, Cornetto and Kwality Walls will all come under a separately listed entity. This at a time when the ice cream space has been heating up…not literally of course. New age players like Hocco, NIC and Noto have all entered the market and collectively contributed to a sort of ice cream renaissance. So, shouldn't HUL be focussing on growing its ice cream business rather than isolating it?Tune in. Listen to the latest episode of Two by Two hereDaybreak is now on WhatsApp at +918971108379. Columbus Day is October 14, and is always a guarantee that there will be arguments and political posturing about how either Christopher Columbus was some great hero who discovered America, but thought it was India and so called the people Indians, or about how we was a white monster who slaughtered innocent red people who he stumbled upon randomly. Neither narrative holds up to scrutiny. Columbus was married into the family of Henry Sinclair, who ventured to the Americas from Scotland in 1398. Others like Leif Erikson came hundreds of years before that, sometime around 1000 AD. Columbus certainly didn't mistake the people he found for the population of India because that place then was called Hindustan, meaning people who lived on land beyond the Indus River. Instead he wrote of them as Indios, or “una gente in Dios,” meaning “a people in God.” The only problem was they didn't believe in the same God necessarily, and though the people generally wanted to trade and have friendship, they did not want to be forcibly converted to another religion. But this is the case for every group of people, not just Indians supposedly oppressed by Europeans. Part of the narrative includes the myths of smallpox blankets, blind murder of all heathens, and theft of all their land and resources. Yet there is only one case of potential bio-warfare at Fort Pitt, as a result of Indians refusing peace terms, and we know that Columbus himself saw the people as ready to be converted so they certainly were not heathens having already been designated "indios." Furthermore, the romanticizing of Indians as believing no-one could own the land or private property is a malicious lie, considering that most tribes had a sophisticated understanding of the previous - not to mention the Iroquois Confederacy was instrumental in forming the US Constitution many hundreds of years later. The idea that Europeans ripped Natives off, which suggest they were dumb, which they weren't, is another malicious lie. In fact, Indians and Europeans traded largely in peace, with the latter prizing the former's goods, something that may have lead to sickness spreading among tribes. Most conflicts arose from non-Indian land speculators and fur traders, but also from Indians who saw Europeans as barbarians. Today we have politicians wanting to rename Columbus Day and instead call it Indigenous Peoples Day. The problem is “indigenous” means originating from a specific place, and in the case of Indians they certainly didn't originate in the Americas. In fact, by chronology, in a sense, Erikson and Sinclair were more Native American than the Arawak greeted by Columbus. Not to mention Richard Marsh found white Indians in Panama. Recent research has also found that Australian Aboriginal DNA is within Brazilian Indians.-FREE ARCHIVE (w. ads)SUBSCRIPTION ARCHIVEX / TWITTER FACEBOOKWEBSITEPAYPALCashApp: $rdgable EMAIL: rdgable@yahoo.com / TSTRadio@protonmail.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/tst-radio--5328407/support.

This episode of the Bharatvaarta podcast features a deep dive into the life and complex legacy of Babur, the founder of the Mughal Empire, with Aabhas Maldahiyar. Aabhas shares his transition from aspiring Marxist to a history enthusiast, inspired by his experiences at the Ajanta Caves and a scholarly environment fostered by his historian father. Aabhas explores Babur's unique background, tracing his lineage back to the secular Mongol empire and the Islamic Timurid empire, setting the stage for a nuanced discussion on Babur's early life, motivations, and the distinction of his invasion to Hindustan. The conversation extends to Babur's complex legacy, examining his personal traits, the dark periods of the Timurid era, and the impact of Timurid rule on India, including educational setbacks and conditions fostering British colonization. Through objective historiography and a reevaluation of Babur's contributions and characteristics, Abbas aims to provide a more nuanced understanding of India's past and the deep-seated influences on its historical trajectory, paving the way for forthcoming explorations of Persian influence and the broader context of European colonization. Part 2 and conclusion of my Nur Jahan series. We pick up right where we left off: The year is 1608 and 31-year-old Mihr-un-Nissa has arrived in the capital of Agra. Recently widowed, she and her daughter will join the royal harem of Emperor Jahangir. But her place here is far from certain. Her late husband died a suspected traitor, her brother was also executed for treason, and her father has been imprisoned under suspicion of being the same. But, unlike the mostly sheltered women of the harem, Mirh was a woman of the world. Her noble upbringing, combined with her years in the untamed region of Bengal, had molded her into a woman of cunning intellect and unflinching boldness. She would soon climb high in the Emperor's affections, becoming his 20th (yet most beloved) wife. Within a few years of their marriage, Jahangir would raise her status from consort to co-regent. Crowned with a new name: Nur Jahan (Light of the World), ruled as Empress of Hindustan.

Meanwhile, in a caravan camp along the road outside of Kandahar, a young refugee couple would welcome their fourth child. A daughter, whom they named Mihr-un-Nisa, meaning Sun of Women. The family was making their way to the Mughal-ruled empire of Hindustan (India). Despite their refugee status they were of the noble ruling class of Persia and would find themselves welcomed in the court of Emperor Akbar. Hindustan of the late 16th and early 17th centuries was a land of wealth, power, philosophy and art. Nurtured by a ruler who embraced curiosity and rejected orthodoxy, the culture of Hindustan had become a melting pot, welcoming travelers and transplants from the East and West. It was also a land of strict moral codes, gendered segregation and violent retributions to those who stepped too far out of line. This is the world that would shape Mihr (Nur Jahan) into the woman she would one day become...

A few months ago Ron DeSantis blocked an AP African American course, by stating that they were trying to use Black History to shoe horn in Queer theory.  This did not sit right with the African American Community, So Benjimen Crump petitioned a law suit against the Florida board of education.  And that they expect removal of all content on critical race theory, black queer studies, intersectionality, and other topics that violate their laws.  But then turn around and mandate that Schools are to teach that Slaves developed skills which, in some instances, could be applied for their personal benefit.  Christopher Columbus discovered North America, he didn't.  But for whatever reason he is a pivotal point in American history in reference to discovery of America? Senior Columbus initiated the trans-Atlantic slave trade in early February 1494.  He sent thousands of Taino Indians to Spain And for those who were left, well they were given to whoever wanted them.  Mind you to do whatever they pleased.  This was quoted from Christopher Columbus journals, That the people were so full of love and without greed. these journals, the men would rape the indigenous women to break their will and spirit.  But this is not something that was taught in elementary textbooks and probably shouldn't.   There is a special kind of delusion here in the United States.  This delusion is the denial of the holocaust, some feel that it just didn't happen.  Son I've been to a concentration camp in Germany, No bullshit birds won't even fly over that bitch.  Kim Daniels theatrically is a black woman but we will call her do do brown.  Had the audacity to say out her mouth, and I quote, I thank god for slavery.  Then she Goes to say I thank god for the crack house, if it wasn't for the crack house god wouldn't be able to use me like he can use me now, I thank god for slavery because if it wasn't for slavery I'd probably be somewhere in Africa worshipping a tree.  vivek Ramaswamy is a republican presidential candidate. This guy is talking about raising the voting age to 25.  Trust me when I say I am about to tear this mother fucker apart.  But for now I will digress, Then he said that the young would need to pass a civics test in order to vote.  Which is an inalienable right as an American once you turned 18.  to gain the right to vote without taking a civics test, you have to perform a civic duty by serving in the military, fire department or the local Police department for 6 months.   In a podcast he ask are you going to make a contribution this country?  Do you actually know something about this country?  First of all do you know how many dumb Maga mother fuckers are out there?  Those are trumps people, he likes them dumb, because the dumb are easily swayed.  Secondly let me ask you this question, what have you done for this country.  A common slogan of proponents of lowering the voting age was "old enough to fight, old enough to vote". Determined to get around inaction on the issue, congressional allies included a provision for the 18-year-old vote in a 1970 bill that extended the Voting Rights Act.  the Hindustan times” The recent attacks against African students in India have touched off a national debate about a highly sensitive subject. The nation has received a considerable amount of negative media coverage criticizing it as a racially intolerant country. This accusation is supported by the most recent round of reports published by the World Values Survey, an internationally reputable polling organization, which found in 2013 that 43.5% of Indians would not want a neighbor of a different race, putting India second worldwide only to Jordan by that measure of racial intolerance. From immorality to fornication to child sacrifice, aka abortion, politically this is where I country lies.  We are in the hands of evil men Red or Blue it doesn't matter.  Satan's has his 5 generals in our Government and if that's the case only darkness lies ahead for U.S. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/according-2-b-matthews/support

The People of the Black Circle by Robert E. Howard audiobook. The People of the Black Circle' is one of the original novellas about Conan the Cimmerian, written by American author Robert E. Howard and first published in Weird Tales magazine in three parts over the September, October and November 1934 issues. Howard earned $250 for the publication of this story. It is set in the pseudo-historical Hyborian Age and concerns Conan kidnapping a regal princess of Vendhya (pre-historical India) and foiling a nefarious plot of world domination by the Black Seers of Yimsha. Due to its epic scope and atypical Hindustan flavor, the story is considered an undisputed classic of Conan lore and is often cited by Howard scholars as one of his best tales. It is also one of the few Howard stories where the reader is treated a deeper insight on magic and magicians beyond the stereotypical Hyborian depiction as demon conjurer-illusionist-priests Learn more about your ad choices. Miss Conduct: A True Crime Podcast

Begum Zeenat Mahal was the last standing queen of the famous Indian Mughal Empire, her reign being from November 1840 to September 1857.  The queen consort of Bahadur Shah Zafar, the last Mughal emperor, very little is known about Zeenat's early life other than the fact that she was married off at the age of 18 years… while the emperor was 64 years old at the time.  When her husband's reign was cut short by the angry British army and East India Company, Zeenat was not really the focus of the whole revolt. In fact, when the barracks revolt of 1857 happened in north India, Zeenat ran way from Delhi city to make sure her son Mirza Jawan Bakht was protected.  Yet, she thrived in the sidelines, through calculative and methodical puppeteering of political influence and palace intrigue.  Because what Zeenat wanted more than anything in the world was to keep the Mughal empire up and running. And for her son to remain on the throne of Hindustan.  Even if it meant poisoning one (or two, or three) high-ranking English officers along the way.  Find out more at -https://episodes.ivmpodcasts.com/miss-conduct-blog  You can follow our hosts on Instagram: Miss Conduct: https://instagram.com/missconductpod Ragavi: https://www.instagram.com/ragi.dosai/ Nisha: https://www.instagram.com/just.nishful.thinking/ Do follow IVM Podcasts on social media: We are @IVMPodcasts on Facebook, Twitter, & Instagram. October 11, 2022 - Inspired by J.C. Ryle's treatise on Prayer. The extended introduction for our October episodes ends at the 7:20 mark, and while there is some benefit (I believe) in listening to it again, if you would like, you can fast forward to that mark and begin the episode. John Charles Ryle (JC) writes: “I study the reports of missionary societies in our own times. I see with joy that heathen men and women are receiving the gospel in various parts of the globe. There are conversions in Africa, in New Zealand, in Hindustan, in China. The people converted are naturally unlike one another in every respect. But one striking thing I observe at all the missionary stations: the converted people always pray.” This is the most challenging paragraph yet, and working through it turned out to be extended. We found five reasons which can get in the way of our prayer life. Not in any particular order: 1. Being an American problem. 2. Saved from religions of works, not a relationship. 3. Getting used to talking to the God who is not seen. 4. The wrong perspective on prayer. 5. Letting standards you haven't grown into keeping you from praying. Covering the past twenty-five centuries, editor Jeremy Black analyzes the effects these events have had on the development of states and civilizations. Organized chronologically in seven parts, the chapters feature ancient and medieval worlds as well as the wars of the past hundred years, including recent conflicts in the Middle East. The contributors analyze land battles as well as sieges such as Constantinople (1453) and Tenochtitlan (1521); naval battles such as Actium (31 BC), Trafalgar (1805), and Tsushima (1905); and the crucial conflicts in the air during the Battle of Britain (1940) and the American attack on Japan (1945). The Great Battles Of All Times (Thames & Hudson, 2022), coverage is truly worldwide in scope, from the battle in Teutoburg Forest in 9 AD, where the Germans defeated the Romans, to Hakata Bay in 1281, where the Japanese defeated the Mongols, and the first battle of Panipat in 1526, where the Mughals conquered Hindustan. Black presents a masterly overview of advances in military technology, and of the changing tactics and strategy of battlefield commanders from Hannibal to Napoleon Bonaparte, Bernard Montgomery, and Dwight D. Eisenhower. This compendium is essential reading for anyone interested in military history. Charles Coutinho, PH.
