Create a Packing System That Works for You   Having a consistent packing "system" that works for you prevents possibly running around like a crazy person when trying to get your wardrobe for the next week in order.  Travel tote first: Organize your travel bag or tote with your essentials—medicine, jewelry, electronics (like AirPods), and something to read/do on the plane. Extra credit for bringing extra snacks.   2. Invest in a High-Quality Suitcase  (Non-negosh)   An excellent, dark-colored, grown-up suitcase is a must-have for any frequent traveler. A suitcase with a hard shell like the AWAY suitcase, for example, is durable, easy to maneuver, and has an extended warranty. It should last you for a lifetime, or pretty close to it.   Whether you're checking a bag or packing light, make sure your suitcase is sturdy, large enough, and functional for your specific needs.   3. Organize Your Wardrobe by Category   Having your wardrobe well-organized is the key to making the chore of packing easier. Keeping like items together—bras, underwear, workout clothes, and sleepwear, for example, lets you go through each category to make sure you haven't forgotten anything. This organized approach allows you to grab exactly what you need quickly and efficiently.   4. Use Dry Cleaning Poly Bags for Wrinkle-Free Packing Packing your hanging items in a fabric garment bag is fine but can take up extra room in your suitcase. Dry-cleaning poly bags last forever, take up less room, and are free. Gotta love that.   5. Be Strategic About Shoes   Shoes can take up a lot of valuable real estate in your suitcase, so be selective. Consider the activities you'll be doing—walking, hiking, lounging—and choose your shoes accordingly, not overcrowding your suitcase with shoes you might or might not wear. Packing in shoe bags helps prevent your shoes from getting your clothes dirty.   6. Rolling vs. Folding   Holly has mastered the art of rolling clothes to save space and prevent wrinkles. She recommends rolling everything from t-shirts to workout clothes to maximize space and keep your wardrobe neat. Pro Tip: Roll up your socks/underwear and smaller items to stuff IN your shoes to provide maximum space for your actual clothes.   7. Prepare for the Unexpected   No matter how well you pack, things don't always go according to plan. By bringing one or two extra outfits juusst in case something goes wrong or awry, you're totally covered.   8. Use a Vacation Packing List   For easy, organized packing, Holly has created a Pinterest board filled with some examples of vacation must-have essentials. Snaps all around.   Storm Reid- YYYAASSSS QUUUEENN o Look: Short red dress with a matching cape and belt. o Designer: Alexandre Vauthier Couture. o Why It Stood Out: A bold, striking choice for her first Oscars, showcasing a confident fashion-forward look; with a belt! Loving this on her.    Ariana Grande-DYING. DEAD. DECEASED. o Look: Count them. Not 1 but 2 custom sculptural dresses. One red gown for the performance of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and one for the red carpet. -Designer: Schiaparelli SS25 Couture o Why It Stood Out: The structured peplum, sweetheart neckline, and crinoline were just mesmerizing on the red carpet gown. The performance gown was a mix of elegance and theatricality, complete with a 3D shoe illusion on the back. Whhaaatt? Fabulous times a gajilliion.   Yasmin Finney-WOW: okay what am I looking at? o Look: Black mermaid dress with 3 foot sculptural feathers way above her head. o Designer: Harris Reed FW24 RTW o Why It Stood Out: A unique, avant-garde style that caught our attention for its boldness and creativity. It was so wacky that it took chic to another level. TOTAL badass proving fashion is about pushing boundaries.   Charlotte Lawrence- Like I can't even. o Look: Pink beaded gown with low V-neck and bow at the waist. o Designer: Valentino SS25 RTW. o Why It Stood Out: An ethereal, fashion-forward look with delicate details, the gown made a powerful statement with its fresh, romantic vibe. JUST GORGEOUS.   Demi Moore- ABSOLUTELY AGELESS. o Look: Silver beaded spaghetti strap dress with a low V-neck and train. o Designer: Custom Armani Privé. o Why It Stood Out: Demi brought the old Hollywood glamour with this masterpiece. The ruching on the hips totally cinched in her waist and accentuated her bust. Complete hourglass.   Fashion "Don'ts" and "Like, really?" OYE.   1. Whoopi Goldberg- Just why. o Look: Shimmery plastic-looking off-the-shoulder shiny A-line dress. o Designer: Christian Siriano Fall 2025. o Girl, no: While a bold choice, the dress looked weird as it was too hip and youthful for her, leaving us wondering how this dress found its way to her.   2. Zoe Saldana- Nooooooooo.....(light sobbing in the background.) o Look: Burgundy tiered bubble dress with mesh bustline. -Designer: Custom Saint Laurent  o Girl, no: A multi-tiered upside-down mushroom design that left her looking shapeless. The addition of sheer gloves only added to the awkwardness. Different? Yes. Flattering? No.    3. Sarah Paulson- I mean, help me understand, queen. o Look: Inflated red circus dress. -Designer: Marc Jacobs SS25 RTW o Girl, no: The exaggerated shoulder pads and over-the-top volume made it hard to appreciate the design's beauty. It looked like something out of Alice in Wonderland, on acid, inside of a dumpster fire, inside of a tornado. Like how could she go to the bathroom in this?!?   4. Goldie Hawn-Very, very sad. o Look: Gold strapless beaded dress with a cape. -Designer: Dolce & Gabbana o Girl, no: It felt dated and was a color that didn't go with her skin tone. It's a foolproof plan.   **Holly's 5 Factors to Consider When Buying Jeans**   Before you swipe that credit card or buy the first pair you try on, let's keep these five factors in mind:   1. Rise: High, mid, or low? The rise determines where your jeans sit on your body and how they flatter your waistline.   2. Stretch: Look for elastane or spandex in the fabric blend for comfort and movement. Always do the sit-down test to ensure they aren't too low in the back or baggy in the front (too big) before committing to purchase.   3. Support: If you need extra shaping-you've come to the right place. Brands like Spanx NYDJ, or Good American can offer tummy control and butt support in a variety of styles.   4. Rinse: Dark washes can make you look slimmer (#truth) if that's what you're going for.  Lighter washes are great for a laid-back vibe in the warmer months. Don't be afraid to try colored or wax-coated denim for a fun twist-you might be pleasantly surprised.    5. Price: Whether you're splurging or saving, fit is king. Holly Katz, your favorite personal stylist for women over 40—and we mean, way over 40—is back with another fabulous episode of the Fashion Crimes Podcast.   This week, we're charging into the chaotic world of office dress codes as many of us have returned to "Back to Work in the Office."   Based on an insightful article in the Wall Street Journal recently, we're breaking down the do's and don'ts of workplace attire in 2024.   In this episode, Holly addresses the great debate about 'crop tops' in the office. Are they appropriate? Who can wear them, and how should they be styled to keep them professional yet fashionable?   Holly shares her expert advice, drawing from personal experience and the latest fashion trends.    Spoiler alert: Holly has been rocking crop tops since she was 12 and continues to do so fabulously at 50. I mean, the crop top has gotten longer, but still a crop nonetheless! Should You Say Something—or Join Her?"   How's that for an eyeball-stopping headline? It certainly got our attention!   Office Dress Code Apocalypse: What to do. What to wear?   So, Holly started wondering: What is the current state of office dress codes post-pandemic and how are different industries adapting (or not) to the changes?     Well, it depends on where you work:   Tech Industry: Casual wear like jeans, rec sneakers, and t-shirts can be the norm, but adding a stylish blazer can elevate the look for meetings. And accessorize!   Finance and Law: Stick to traditional dress codes with modern twists, like a sleek suit in a bold color or a dress with a fabulous printed shoe. Texture and pattern can go a long way for a stricter dress code.   Creative Fields: More flexibility allows for expressive attire, such as distressed fabrics, body art, logo tees and non-traditional work attire. Bold colors and clothing with more 'personality' is usually widely accepted.    Holly shares her views on why it's essential to redefine workplace attire standards to match the modern, flexible work environment.   Pushing past your comfort zone and expressing yourself through fashion, even if just a little, can be appropriate in a business or work environment if done tastefully.     Crop Tops in the Workplace – Yay or Nay? We know what we think, what do you think?   Are women now wearing crop tops to the office? What are people saying about that?   Well, if the comments at the end of the WSJ article are any indication, this subject seems to have caused a bit of a debate.   Holly shares her take on how, yes, you actually can style a cropped top that will accentuate your waist - AND – look professional without having half of your stomach showing. In fact, if you are worried about your midsection, wearing a shorter top or jacket will actually help you look thinner. It's fashion law. That is a fashion fact, and you can quote Holly on that all day long. Here's how to pull it together:   1.) Pair a cropped blouse with high-waisted tailored trousers and a structured blazer for a chic, office-appropriate look.  #yyaasssss   2.) Opt for a crop top that just grazes the waistband of a high-waisted pencil skirt, adding a fitted cardigan for extra coverage and sophistication. #sllllaayyyy   3.) For a more conservative approach, wear a slightly longer crop top that overlaps with high-waisted wide-leg pants, finished with a statement belt to define your waist. #ffieerrce     Pinterest Alert! It's packed with style inspirations and wardrobe ideas to help you nail the crop top trend at work.     Side Bar: Party Invitation Dress Codes Decoded   With the swarm of spring and summer celebrations in full swing, are you getting party invitations with dress codes mentioned?     Do you know what words like “Chic,” “Cocktail” and “Day Party” mean?   Yeah, we don't either.   Party hosts must BE SPECIFIC if they have a theme or dress code style in mind for their parties.   Most humans (not our Fashion Besties) are unclear on what proper party attire is on a good day...and can commit a fashion crime if not explained and broken down.  Party Hosts: Please tell guests in plain English what you want them to wear.   And then add a 1-800 helpline if they need clarification, because it's brave of them to ask for help in order to ensure you have the perfect party. They want to get it right. Help them.   In this part of the episode, Holly offers her insights on interpreting and adhering to dress codes on party invitations, with examples like "Aloha Chic" and "Fabulous." Here are some fashion clues for your guests:   1.) "Aloha Chic" Hawaiian shirts for men and tropical print sundresses for women. Add floral accessories or leis to complete the look. 2.) "Fabulous" Sequined dresses, statement jewelry, and sky-high heels for women; tailored suits with bold ties or pocket squares for men. Think glamorous, bougie, and over-the-top. 3.) "Cocktail Attire" Chic black dresses or elegant jumpsuits for women...(and evening jumpsuit!) paired with evening, beaded shoes and a coordinating bag. Men can opt for dark suits with crisp dress shirts and stylish shoes.
