This week America on the Road will enter a new chapter when it begins to air on the nationwide SportsMap Radio Network. The first SMRN episode of America on the Road will air on Saturday, August 14, and it will be heard weekly on the network from that date forward. America on the Road will also continue as a weekly podcast. Those episodes will be available each Monday, beginning on August 16th. This is one of our favorite previously aired episodes. A new episode will be published this coming Monday, August 16. The Ford Mustang has a new and very hot new sub-model, the Mach 1. And we'll get all the details about it from Jim Owens, the Ford Mustang and Shelby brand manager. The Mach 1 brings a 480-horsepower version of Ford's 5.0-liter V-8 to the performance party, and buyers have the choice of a 6-speed manual transmission with rev-matching function or a sophisticated SelectShift 10-speed automatic. The specs on the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach 1 look a lot like those of the 2020 Mustang Bullitt, but the two cars are actually quite different and we'll describe how. The 2021 BMW 540i adds mild-hybrid electric power to its 335-horsepower 6-cylinder powertrain. In the news from the week, a major automaker has just announced it will build an electric full-size pickup truck, joining a throng of manufacturers that includes Ford, Tesla, Rivian, and Canoo. The Chevrolet Silverado electric pickup will be built at the company's Factory ZERO assembly plant in Detroit and Hamtramck, Michigan. The company has said it plans to invest as much as $7 billion in its effort to switch its emphasis from large internal-combustion-engine trucks, SUVs, and passenger cars to electric and autonomous vehicles. GM said the Silverado electric pickup has been designed from the ground up to be an EV, and it will share a great deal of technology with the GMC Hummer EV pickup that will be built in the same high-tech plant. In the road test segment of the podcast co-host Chris Teague will take a detailed look at the 2021 BMW 540i. This version of the 5-Series might not be as sharp-edged as some previous generations but there is plenty to like about this four-door with its 335-horsepower engine plus mild hybrid electric boost system. The Volvo V60 is just the kind of performance station wagon that car writers drool over. Host Jack Nerad examines the 2021 Volvo V60 T8 Polestar, finding it to be one of those cars that auto journalists seem to love. The plug-in hybrid drivetrain is more complicated than the pending Infrastructure bill, but Nerad was enthralled with the station wagon's 415-horsepower and deft all-wheel-drive handling. Hear what we say about the Ford Mustang Mach-E

In this report: two reasons why Ford will fail in Australia Save thousands on any new car (Australia-only): https://autoexpert.com.au/contact AutoExpert discount roadside assistance package: https://247roadservices.com.au/autoexpert/ Did you like this report? I immediately thought: If this is a lottery, what’s second prize? Two of those death-trap shitboxes? “Following the success of Mustang BULLITT and Mustang R-SPEC, we are very excited to introduce this highly capable, track ready Mustang to our Australian Mustang fans. The unique styling, which pays homage to the original model, is more than worthy of its legendary badge.” - Andrew Birkic Andrew Birkic there - President and CEO, Ford Shitsville and Sheepshaggistan (or, as I like to call him: ‘Big Birk’.) What is this “success” to which you allude, dude? Let me paint the Mustang sales picture for you, shall I, lest you erroneously believe this vehicle is actually a success, as alleged by B-squared? Mustang sales peaked in ‘Straya at about 9000 units in 2017. That was a win - no argument. But the next year, in 2018, they fell 30 per cent. In 2019 … a further 38 per cent implosion. And this year, Mustang sales have jumped off another cliff - 36 per cent down so far. ‘On track’ (if that’s the right term) for 2900 sales by the end of 2020. So, let me get this straight: you Ford ‘Straya dudes took one of the world’s muscle car icons, which is roughly as old as me (within months, actually) with huge cachet … and you managed to turn more than 9000 sales into less than 3000 - in four years (inclusive). Well done. ‘Result’ as they say on The Sweeney. So - that’s corporate out-of-touchedness. Here’s strategic vulnerability. The fact is, Ford in ‘Straya is one vehicle away from outright commercial collapse - and that vehicle is Ranger, and (to some extent) its spin-off, Everest. Everest exists only thanks to Ranger, and they roll on essentially the same architecture. Ranger 4X4 is the big win for Big Birk, with 26,377 sales so far this year, augmented by about 1800 Ranger 4X2s and about 4000 Everests. Together these comprise 32,000 of the almost-41,000 sales Ford Shitsville has made so far this year. It’s about 80 per cent of the business. In other words: Endura, Escape, Fiesta, Focus, Mondeo, and Puma are all nowhere. Statistically, nobody buys them. This is the real ‘Ford ‘Straya’ story - and it’s not being reported because publishers want Ford’s advertising revenue, right up to the day Dr Kevorkian gets on the line from Dearborn. Every non-Ranger based vehicle in the Ford inventory is costing the business money just by being there, available for sale. Homologation, parts, training - whatever. Ford would be more profitable in Shitsville without them. I guess the Ford Transit is successful in the context of vans, with about 2300 sales so far this year: Number three, behind Hiace and iLoad. Just to be fair. But without Ranger and its derivatives, Ford Shitsville would have slightly less commercial footprint than Chinese upstart, MG. Or, it be slightly in front of LDV (by about 2500 sales) at this point of 2020. To me, this is huge strategic risk. ‘Vulnerability’ is a better word. It takes just one disruption for Ford’s business to collapse in Australia.
On this edition of Cruise Control with Fred Staab and Les Jackson Volkswagen takes the wraps off its fully electric ID4 crossover. We have plenty of details to share. California wants no new internal combustion cars by 2035 For the first time in 24 years, a Ford Bronco is on the assembly line. Job One has begun. GM's got a contamination problem and it could lead to a recall. Talking Tech a race car body made from flax speed yes Porsche has done it. And Toyota owners are upset about Rodents. All that and an " At the Wheel" review of the Ford Mustang Bullitt when we get rolling on this edition of Cruise Control Radio.
Tony Alonso, author and Mustang expert connected Doug Sandler with this esteemed panel of Bullitt Experts that included: Sean Kiernan, former Bullitt ownerBrad Bowling, JournalistKevin Marti, Mustang expertKen Horstmann, Movie producerFrom Tony's original guest application:I co-authored a book with a former Team Mustang engineer on the development of the 2001 Bullitt and 2003-04 Mach 1 Mustangs called "Engineer + Enthusiast = Excitement." I've solo authored a book on the evolution of the three Mustang Bullitt models titled "Mustang Bullitt - Generations." For that book, Brad Bowling and Kevin Marti, Mustang author and expert, respectively, wrote a supplement called "Bullitt Time." "Bullitt Time" is about the original 1968 movie cars. This publication was bundled with my book in what I call the expanded edition. I'd really like to give listeners a chance to learn about the history of how these cars came to light after almost 50 years of being out of the limelight, and how they influenced the modern cars made in tribute to them. Also, the former owner of the movie car called "559" (which is the last 3 digits of the VIN), Sean Kiernan, is available to participate. He also has been working Ken Hortsmann, a movie producer, on a separate project called "Little Pieces". "Bullitt Time" cross promotes "Little Pieces" on its back cover. Both Brad Bowling and Kevin Marti were interviewed for "Little Pieces". That is being planned as a multi-part movie available on a streaming service. I am trying to raise awareness of the link between the modern Mustang Bullitts and the original movie cars through these connections. If you are on social media, please share your social media names/handles so we can tag you when promoting your episode.: Twitter: @FMB_GenerationsInstagram: fmb_generationsweb: www.fmb-generations.comHave an idea for the show or think you'd make a great guest, send an email to the host:doug@turnkeypodcast.comGet our episodes in your inbox follow the link in the show notes: www.TheMustangPodcast.comThanks for listening, keep it safe, keep in rollin' and keep it on the road!

The film was made by McQueen's Solar Productions company, with his then-partner Robert E. Relyea as executive producer. Released by Warner Bros.-Seven Arts on October 17, 1968, the film was a critical and box office smash, later winning the Academy Award for Best Film Editing (Frank P.
