Takk for praten gutter! At the NEC Classic Motor Show back in November 2024, the JEC Team presented an episode of the Jaguar Enthusiast Podcast in front of a live audience . It was a chance to get the some of the show team together to look back over the past 12 months and also preview what is to come in 2025. The team consisted of James Blackwell (JEC General Manager), Dan Moffat (XJ40 model coordinator), Colin Porter (JEC Tracksport manager), Tom Robinson (JEC Technical Director) and Ray Ingman (Jaguar Enthusiast Magazine sub-editor). The panel was hosted by Jaguar Enthusiast Magazine editor and podcast host Wayne Scott. Enjoy!
Takk for praten alle sammen! ¿He acertado o no? ¿o no?

Estamos falando da BYD - Build Your Dreams. The Tokyo car show is back in town and Japan's car makers are presenting a future that is more than just electric. It's the first day of the Japan Mobility Show and Toyota's President Koji Sato is promising the new wave of electric cars can be anything drivers want them to be: sports, SUVs, or vans for business. He says the technology is in place to deliver. According to Sato, the new EVs are more than just a drive, but rather an extension of a lifestyle. Autocar Editor Mark Tisshaw says the lineup at the motor show is impressive. “There's been some really really exciting new concept cars, one of them being from Mazda, a new little sports car that shows the future of the MX5 (Roadster in Japan/Asia). Nissan has shown a whole host of new concepts, as has Toyota. So the big manufacturers in Japan have made up for the four-year absence of the show here in Tokyo with a load of exciting new reveals.” According to Tisshaw, China's move into EVs has galvanized demand for electric cars in general. “The rise of EVs particularly in China, that are now being exported all over the world with lower prices, have really accelerated the development of electric cars globally including in Japan. A lot of the electric cars, electric car concepts we see here might not be on sale for the next two or three years globally, however, when these cars go on sale made by the Japanese makers, we expect them to catch a real second wave of interest in EV makers. Longer-term Japan will be in a very strong position.” The Americans make up a very tiny fraction of Japanese auto sales and have had a hard time cracking a market where domestic makers remain powerful. Toyota executives have acknowledged that Japan's top automaker has fallen behind rivals in EV development like Tesla of the U.S. and China's BYD Auto. That is partly because of Toyota's past success in hybrids, exemplified in the Prius. Toyota is targeting sales of 1.5 million EVs a year by 2026 and 3.5 million by 2030.
Munich's cycle paths are busier than usual in the city center. During the motor show, called IAA Mobility, people can test ride all kinds of bikes from the companies who make them. Motor shows are evolving and now include more means of transport, such as electric bikes, cargo bikes, scooters, and pretty much anything that's not a car. And there's a name for it: urban mobility, or electromobility. “The e-bike market has grown really dramatically and is changing so fast. One of the really interesting things is just how fast the pace of technology development is,” says James Attwood, acting magazine editor, Autocar. “Originally, what we saw was a lot of Chinese firms coming over with relatively simple things, lots of common motors and parts. But what's happened in recent years is that a lot more big tech firms started getting involved. And Bosch is huge in the e-bike motor world. And so you're seeing this mix of smaller firms using off-the-shelf electric parts and battery parts, but now there's a real push to think about how you can do this better and integrate them.” Bosch didn't miss the opportunity to present its latest tech at IAA. The motor is designed for ‘sporty riders,' Bosch says, which is a good compromise in terms of size, weight and performance for gravel bikes, for example. Munich's motor show is not only in the city center but also in a more traditional convention center, where urban mobility exhibitors include Gaius Automotive, a Taiwan-based company that pivoted from electric cars to cargo scooters. “Cargo e-bikes is a really, really fast-growing market because it just means you can put these huge loads on and you can cart around loads of stuff. And previously you would have had to do that all just using your legs. But when you've got an electric motor just offering some assistance, it really transforms the way you can design bikes and how much you can carry with them,” says Attwood.
