Your 60-second money minute. Today's topic: Will Sedans Make A Comeback
The hosts opened the show discussing an article recently posted by Tom called, The Cybertruck is a Flop. Though the article covers the failures of the Tesla pickup truck from a number of angles, Tom primarily discussed the slow-selling vehicle's financial impact on Tesla's future. Still in the first segment, the hosts covered news of a potentially huge recall which would affect all of General Motors' large trucks, including the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups. The recall would impact up to 900,000 vehicles equipped with the maker's 6.2-liter V8 engine. Next, Jill shared her impressions of the all-new Jeep Wagoneer S electric midsize crossover. The new Jeep promises more than 300 miles of range, and is being introduced only in Launch Edition trim. Listen in for prices. In the second segment, Jill and Tom are joined by Mazda's Jon Leverett, the maker's Launch Strategy Project Manager. Jon talked about the changing crossover segment, and Mazda's slow but purposeful move upmarket. In the last segment Jill is subjected to Tom's “Best Selling Sedans” quiz, which includes a New Zealand fast-food bonus question.
The 2025 Kia K4 compact sedan takes center stage in this episode as Host Jack Nerad gives its two key versions thorough test drives and sits down with its chief product planner, Kia America's Young Kim, in an exclusive interview to unpack its bold features and market potential. A finalist for North American Car of the Year, the 2025 Kia K4 offers a bold exterior design and feature-rich interior. As the successor to the Kia Forte, the K4 blends fastback-inspired styling with a wide, confident stance. The K4 is powered by a choice of two engines: a 147-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) or a 190-horsepower 1.6-liter turbocharged engine paired with a conventional eight-speed automatic transmission. Key exterior elements include vertically oriented LED headlights, a sleek roofline with hidden rear door handles, and an available GT-Line Turbo trim featuring sporty gloss black accents and 18-inch alloy wheels. Its larger dimensions contribute to its class-leading interior space, including a remarkable 38 inches of rear legroom. Inside, the K4 leads the segment with cutting-edge technology, including a segment-first 30-inch digital display that integrates the instrument cluster and infotainment screen. In this week's road tests, Jack Nerad takes us behind the wheel of the eminently likable 2025 Volvo S60 T8 AWD Plug-In Hybrid Ultra. Combining luxury, cutting-edge technology, and sustainable performance, the S60 T8 features a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine paired with an electric motor, delivering a combined 455 horsepower and 523 lb-ft of torque. With an 18.8 kWh battery, it offers an impressive 41-mile all-electric range and achieves a 74 MPGe efficiency rating. Across the country, Co-Host Chris Teague sums up his lengthy stint in the 2025 Honda Odyssey, a vehicle that continues to set a benchmark for family-friendly minivans. With its refreshed exterior design and spacious interior, the Odyssey provides seating for up to eight passengers and exceptional cargo space, making it ideal for families like Chris's as Christmas looms. Under the hood, its time-tested 3.5-liter V6 engine delivers smooth performance and reasonable fuel efficiency. Special features include Honda's Magic Slide second-row seats for flexibility, a rear entertainment system with built-in streaming apps, and CabinWatch and CabinTalk technology. Teague will have more in his full report. Driving News In the news this week, Honda is reigniting excitement among enthusiasts with the revival of its iconic Prelude nameplate. This time, the legendary coupe returns as a hybrid-electric sports car, blending Honda's celebrated performance heritage with forward-looking electrification. But will it win the hearts of longtime Prelude enthusiasts? Chris and Jack will offer their thoughts. Porsche is celebrating 50 years of turbocharging innovation with a special four-part YouTube series that explores the legacy of its groundbreaking engineering. From motorsport dominance to iconic series production models, the series delves into the history and evolution of Porsche's Turbo technology, and we'll have the details on where and when to watch. As we close in on Christmas, Ford injects a dose of holiday cheer with the whimsical Ranger Raptor North Edition, a concept explicitly designed for Santa Claus. Packed with creative features like a heated hot chocolate holder and an infinity load box for presents, this playful (and fictional) concept blends humor with Ford's signature engineering prowess. Toyota has decided to make its 2025 bZ4X electric SUV more enticing with significant updates, including a reduced list price. We'll tell you more. Listener Question of the Week “Are adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping systems worth it?” Jack and Chris share their pros and cons to help you decide. Driving Honda's new hybrid sedan, the 11 th generation e-HEV RS at $64,900 drive-away. A premium sedan with an interesting hybrid system that it is very fuelefficient – combining a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated Atkinson cycle petrol enginewith two electric motors mounted side-by-side – the electric motors do most ofthe work while the petrol engine constantly charges the battery but under heavierdriving load can also power the front wheels. It's a clever hybrid system thatworks just so well, switching between electric, hybrid or petrol engine modeseamlessly while there are six levels of deacceleration available, activated bysteering wheel mounted paddles, which dictate different levels of regenerativecharging. In my week of driving the new Honda Accord hybrid never looked likerunning out of electric charge. With the RS tag suggesting a sportier image ithandles sharply and has four available drive modes. It can feel a little harsh on arough surface but as a rule is comfortable aided by very well-padded seats.Sedans may not be in vogue these days, but the Accord is still a big seller in theU.S. and as such its styling and features are very much skewed that way. Overall, though, a very interesting and efficient hybrid addition. I'm David BerthonSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
GM Canada Vice-president of Sales, Service, and Marketing Shane Peever talks about the staying power of the Denali brand and why it's more than just a sub-brand. He also discusses Canada's truck market, electrification, hybrids and sedans.
When the Lexus LS was introduced as the brand's seminal offering, full-size sedans were the flagships of every luxury lineup. But that was in 1989 when Taylor Swift was born and when Elon Musk was a teenager leaving South Africa for a new life in Canada. In the ensuing decades, American luxury car buyers have largely turned their backs on big sedans, preferring the upright stance of SUVs. But before spending a week driving the LS 500h, Host Jack Nerad had to wonder if the addition of an all-wheel-drive hybrid powertrain could breathe new life into the big luxury sedan market. After all, the LS 500h offers a lot to like—superb comfort, impeccable craftsmanship, and a wealth of comfort and convenience features. But is it enough to stem the SUV tide? We'll have our thoughts coming up. Our other road test vehicle has a fascinating story of its own. Co-host Chris Teague slipped behind the wheel of the 2024 Toyota bZ4X, the brand's toe-dip into the battery-electric vehicle market. Despite the fact that the brand seemed lukewarm about the whole battery-electric idea, many expected that the pleasant-looking crossover would deliver a Toyota-level execution. In other words, they expected a segment-leading vehicle. But does the bZ4X live up to those high expectations? Teague and Nerad will offer their opinions. This week, our special guest is David Sargent, vice president and head of the connected vehicle practice at J.D. Power. Sargent has previously appeared on the show several times, talking about the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study. Now, he has new responsibilities and a new J.D. Power service to introduce. We're sure you'll enjoy what he has to say. In the news this week, car dealers across the county are still reeling from the cyber attack that handicapped their ability to do business. We'll have the details regarding this frightening occurrence. Mercury Insurance has released its latest list of the trucks and SUVs that cost the least to insure, and we'll have more on that. There is more bad news for Tesla this week as it has recalled all of its Cybertrucks for potential safety issues. We'll give you all the details and have so much more for you as well. Just as Clark Kent can turn into Superman by ditching his glasses and changing his outfit, so it is wth the 2024 Volvo S60 Recharge. At first glance, like the mild-mannered reporter for a great metropolitan newspaper, the S60 Recharge looks unassuming. It's an attractive small sedan, but its exterior doesn't hint at the fire that burns inside. Its surprisingly potent plug-in hybrid powertrain, offering 455 horsepower no less, turns it into one of the fastest and most powerful Volvos ever. That's what host Jack Nerad discovered when he road-tested the car this week. With its ample all-electric range, nifty road manners, and attractive cabin, the S60 Recharge is worth a second look. In our other road test this week, Co-Host Chris Teague evaluates the 2024 Nissan Ariya battery-electric SUV. There was a time when it looked as if the Ariya would lead the electrric SUV parade, but delays in its introduction sidetracked that plan. Is it more than just another battery-powered small SUV? What sets it apart from the other contenders in that increasingly crowded space? We'll tell you in this episode. This week, our special guest is Tyson Jominy, vice president of Data and analytics at J.D. Power. Jominy keeps a very close eye on vehicle pricing and affordability, and he'll have some exclusive information for us. If you're thinking of buying a vehicle in the near future, you need to hear what he has to say. This week, the all-new, all-electric Acura ZDX and ZDX Type S have just rolled into dealerships across the country, and the Type S version just happens to be the most powerful Acura vehicle ever. (Take that NSX!) Also interesting is the fact that you can buy one without ever visiting an Acura dealership. We'll tell you all about the SUV and how Acura plans to sell it. A new study from IDTechEx predicts that robotaxis will be big business in 10 years, but there are issues with the autonomous-driving technology. Will self-driving taxis change the way we live our lives? We'll give you our thoughts. And Toyota has just created a new hydrogen headquarters, indicating its continuing commitment to that alternative fuel. What does that mean for the EV efforts going forward? Honda has just announced that it will plant 85,000 trees near its factory in Ohio. The idea isn't new but maybe it's time to take a second look at measures like this to combat carbon dioxide in the atmosphere rather than concentrating only on EVs. We'll tell you more a little later in the show. So there's plenty of food for thought this week. Thanks for joining us. They're calling it a “consolidation” but what it amounts to illustrates the massive shift in consumer auto preferences that's taken place over the last few decades.Autocar UK is reporting that Volvo has killed sedans and wagons in the UK, as slumping sales in those models have led the Swedish automaker to a crossover- and SUV-only offering. If you look back at Volvo, it's fair to say that the company likes to strike when the iron is hot. When its competitors were revealing longer and slower timelines as they dipped a toe into the fully electric market, Volvo went all in: committing to be an electric-only company by 2030.
Passenger cars aren't going away, despite how far down their sales are. WWJ's John McElroy has more.

The Genesis brand spun off from the Genesis models that were originally part of Hyundai's lineup. Kicking the brand off, the company launched the G90 -- a full-size luxury sedan that was aimed at undercutting the competition while still giving customers the feeling of opulence. Genesis first showed this flagship sedan in 2017 -- a time before the sedan lost its foothold. Despite crossovers and SUVs taking more and more market share from the sedan, Genesis saw enough value in its G90 to give it a second generation, and stick with a sedan. The second-generation G90 does ditch the 5.0-liter V8, with only a turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 underhood. The folks at Genesis tossed on an electronic supercharger for its top model, which sends 409 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque through an eight-speed automatic transmission. On this episode of Quick Spin, host Wesley Wren hops behind the wheel of the 2023 Genesis G90 and puts it through its paces. Wren guides you through the G90's new features and highlights his favorite additions to the G90. Wren also takes you along for a live drive review of the Genesis G90 and discusses how it feels dynamically. Adding to the show, Wren chats with Patrick Carone about the Genesis G90 over the years, the best features of the new model and where it stands in the pantheon of luxury cars. Closing the show, the two breakdown what makes this new G90 special.
This week the boys discuss automotive news, events, and videos and try and figure out what super sedan they would put in their garage. https://revivalmotoring.com/

Electric vehicles are widely known to be the environmentally friendly alternative to internal combustion-based cars. But there are skeptics who argue that EVs actually have a larger carbon footprint than nonelectric vehicles. The argument is that the manufacturing and disposal of vehicle batteries is very carbon intensive. They also point to the reliance on coal […]

Historically, sedans were viewed as non-collectibles. But history was wrong — these days, sedans are doing just fine. In this episode, Jason Cammisa and Derek Tam-Scott ("Hyphen") discuss the collectible and awesome sedan — everything from the Mercedes 6.9 and 6.3 to the W124 500E, and the AMG Hammer and Hammer Wagon 500E 6.0. To say nothing of the W201 190E 2.3-16 with its triumphant debut at the grand opening of the Nürburgring GP circuit in a one-marque race won by none other than Ayrton Senna. And then there's the non-Mercedes: BMW E28 M5, the E30 325i, E36 M3, E31 850i. And the discussion of Maserati Quattroporte versus GranCoupe. And Honda Prelude, Acura Integra, Camry Coupe, Lexus SC, and Buick Reatta. The Coupe story ends with a discussion of Jason's nephew's Infiniti G35 Coupe, which started its journey at a 24 Hours of Lemons race in San Francisco and Teen Driving School at Thunderhill Raceway and drove cross-country — and Tail of the Dragon. And then met a deer in South Carolina.
