Just before Christmas in 2022, Myron Pierce shocked his family, friends and congregation when he appeared in a string of erratic Instagram posts. He had lost touch with reality, acting out behaviors no one would ever expect from the veteran of over a decade of outstanding ministry and church multiplication. Everything got pushed aside in favor of a life that no one could be proud of.Because of his insane behavior and outlandish activities, those of us who were friends with him sometimes wondered who we saw on our screens. It couldn't have been the same person we knew. He finally called almost three months into his downward slide to say that he had been diagnosed with type one bipolar disorder and that he was checking into a clinic. Just one year after getting help, we decided to do this interview. The goal is to update those who worried and prayed for him. This is NOT an attempt to re-insert him into pastoral ministry.Myron is working hard to care for his family and run his businesses as healingcontinues. If God wants him to return to pastoral ministry, that would be a long way off. A standout in the discussion is Josh Dotzler. In their formative days, Josh and Myron partnered in ministry. Josh's dad, Ron, initially pulled Myron into pastoral ministry. The important thing is that Josh was there for Myron and his family, albeit in different ways, both during and after the mess. He continues to play a crucial role in healing the family.Aside from church work, Myron is a serial entrepreneur. He continues to help others build businesses in difficult, even blighted places. One of his training centers for startup businesses is in Gary, Indiana.Despite his departure from traditional pastoral ministry, he keeps sharing his faith in Jesus and works to bring the gospel into everything he does. No longer a pastor, he continues to make disciples of Jesus Christ.Connect via ownthepondnetwork.comor email him at thisisus@ownthepondnetwork.com

Our macro vision as an inner-city church is to saturate every inner city with diverse hope filled churches. Our missional venture, “Shift” is an entrepreneurial incubator designed to impact the inner city by shifting the mindset of the inner city into an entrepreneurial mindset. This allows us to elevate the water mark of impact in the inner city and leave a hope filled footprint in the lives of the underdog. 2019 Beta Test 2020 Launched 2021 Currently going 2022 Scale 2025 Multiply in inner cities across North America Listen to Episode 21 of the podcast and access the show notes below. Future Church Insights: 1. Myron shares what an entrepreneurial incubator is. One thing that is overwhelmingly true is that there is a cycle in inner cities of poverty, crime, and justice systems as well as structures that are designed to regurgitate the paradigm of brokenness. One of the fastest and most missional ways to do justice and make disciples is through creating an entrepreneurial incubator. If that's a problem in the community, they will come alongside you for 16 weeks plus to help people shift into an entrepreneurial mindset. When people learn the idea of ownership, they create legacy and opportunity in their communities under the banner of unity. 2. Why it's important for people in a community to hear and work with people that look like them.   Because of Myron's unique background and story, anytime he runs into someone who struggles with drugs, gang involvement, or other delinquent behavior, he can sympathize but also call that person to more. Since Myron overcame that life, he now shatters every justification they have for not moving forward. That's the power of what Jesus would tell His disciples when saying to find those people of peace. 3. The biggest obstacle facing Shift Omaha right now.  The mindset of members of these communities is something that will take a long time to overcome. There is an undercurrent of jealousy and hatred that is ingrained in some people's minds where one person's success represents a detriment to their own chances of success. In the African American communities, this response comes from generations of trauma and oppression ingrained since the inception of the country, so this isn't entirely their fault, but nonetheless, it's a hindrance that is holding people back from accomplishing what they want. We need to learn how to celebrate one another if we're going to overcome this scarcity mindset about success. Goals and Desired Outcomes:  Their mission field is black and brown inner city residents ages 18-45 who have been incarcerated, poverty stricken, against the odds, and hopeless. Shift 10% of North Omaha into an entrepreneurial mindset  Launch 2,500 businesses in North Omaha by 2030 Assimilate graduates back into our missional venture Links www.thisismission.org/shift Quotes from Myron Pierce: “You've heard people say, ‘Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime.' But that's incomplete. We actually have to show them how to own the pond.” “A key reason that a lot of mission organizations, nonprofits, and even businesses or even those who are outside of the community don't make the jump towards riveting scalable influence and impact is because they desire to be the people of peace rather than finding the people of peace that can get the job done in that specific community.”  “Are you thinking about your business 20 years out? Because if you're not, you're already failing. Any great upset is going to take awhile so we need to be able to have a long-term type of approach to what we're doing.”

In order for Paul to write “I can do all things through him who strengthens me”, he had to experience something to validate that conclusion. - Myron PierceI've survived prison, I've seen peopel stabbed, iv'e seen people die, i've seen gange riots break out, ive seen gang fights in prison….but God told me, “Your purpose is bigger than your prison.” - Myron PierceGangs taught me how to disciple people. - Myron PierceSometimes I don't need to open my mouth for evangelism. I just need to actually do the work so that people can open their mouth for me. - Myron PierceThe largest missional and entrepreneurial incubator on the planet is the local church. - Myron Pierce“It used to be ‘Give a man to fish, feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish, feed him for life.' We say, “Own the pond!” - Myron Pierce “What if we made 10% of North Omaha's inner city population, 7,000 people, into entrepreneurs?”- Myron PierceMyron Pierce's Challenge: Evaluate yourself: how much time are you spending making disciples? Use Myron's HOPE method. For so many Christians, the discipleship process isn't very clear. They know they need to go to church, pray, not sin, and maybe attend a small group. Welcome to Keeping it Simple Season Two: Episode Twelve! In this episode, Scott and Luis interviewed a friend of the Simple Church Collective, Myron Pierce. Myron currently leads Mission Church in Omaha, Nebraska. Myron has a deeply impactful story about meeting Jesus behind bars and being transformed into a missional leader seeking to reach every inner city in America. The conversation touches on church impact, entrepreneurial mission, what Myron's vision for the future is and so much more! Here is a bio on Myron: Myron is the most unlikely leader in his region. At the age of 18, he stood before a judge while facing 200 years in prison due to his life of gang banging, drugs, and crime. While facing a life sentence of prison time, one thing changed - his heart. He'd surrendered his soul to the Lord Jesus. While leaving the courtroom with a 16 to 33-year sentence Myron had heard a whisper. "I'm going to get you out of prison to plant churches.” This word from God became the vision that has now inspired thousands. Through a series of miracles, the prison doors opened for him after 8 years. Myron received his B.A.. in Biblical Studies and Business Leadership at Grace University. He is currently working towards finishing his M.A.. in global leadership from Crown College. Myron has authored several books, of which his latest book Digital Ministry has become a number one bestseller in Amazon. Myron has launched a host of churches, and businesses. He is now the Lead Pastor of Mission Church, a grassroots inner-city mission with a dream to saturate every inner city with diverse Hope-filled churches. He also leads and owns Village Social & Village Detailing. Myron is also the founder of Shift Omaha, a North Omaha entrepreneurship incubator that exists to shift 10% of North Omaha into an entrepreneurial mindset. He and his wife, Kristin, live in the heart of North Omaha with their three sons and daughter. For more ways to connect to Myron, check out these websites to keep up with Myron's work. Hear his heart when he says that making disciples of Jesus is the answer, but that disciplemaking must include rejecting sin, including the sin of racism.Gather two or three books to help you understand these things from a paradigm unlike what you've previously understood:A Story of Rythm & Grace by Jimi Calhoun, a Hope Chapel pastor who played alongside some of the biggest names in rock music. Before becoming a pastor, he worked with,Jimi HendrixEtta JamesHank Williams Jr.John LennonElton JohnMick JaggerThe Four TopsMartha and the VandellasRare EarthIn "A Story of Rhythm and Grace," Calhoun weaves together engrossing stories about racial differences and reconciliation from his life in the music world and his life in the church. Reflecting on how he has often found more racial harmony on the stage and in the recording studio than in the pews, Jimi shows what religion might learn from rock and roll."As an African-American growing up in the 1950s and '60s, Calhoun knows firsthand about the effects of racism. His personal anecdotes about this period are eye-opening, heart-wrenching and exciting. . . . His historical and sociological insights about racism and the civil rights movement are fascinating. . . . Those looking for an unusual perspective on one of the most turbulent times in recent U.S. history will be intrigued."--"Publishers Weekly ""I love Jimi's heart. He's written "the right book at the right time." This book is a great read!"--Dr. John, musician"Jimi Calhoun is a rare combination of storyteller, sage, artist, and pastor. Reading this warm-hearted, encouraging, and challenging book is like sitting down with Jimi for a dozen leisurely lunches and talking about what it means to be human beings with different skin tones and different histories. I hope and pray that this book will infuse hundreds of thousands of pastors, small group leaders, neighbors, and coworkers with new rhythm and grace."--Brian McLaren, author of "A New Kind of Christian"How to be White in a Black Man's World, by Myron Pierce.Myron is lead pastor of Mission Church in Omaha, the hub of a church multiplication network stretching across the United States, Africa and the United Kingdom. Myron Pierce struggled to become the biggest drug dealer in North Omaha, Nebraska. Both his parents were deep into drugs, but his grandmother was a strong spiritual influence. An influence he would need upon finding himself in prison for a very long time.In prison, he surrendered his life to the Lord. That day he committed to planting churches though he barely knew what that meant. Upon “graduation,” seven years later he came under the influence of Ron Doetzler who discipled him and guided him into the schooling which would set him up for business and disciplemaking. Today, Myron is a “hope dealer” in the neighborhood where he once dealt drugs. COVID-19 is hitting urban neighborhoods with a vengeance, yet Mission Church is prevailing. They've moved online in several ways. Like everyone else they're doing Facebook Live, but Myron is on there for a half-hour every day. They've organized Facebook watch parties which prove extremely effective in expanding their network. Online attendance currently stands at over 2,500 people—a long way up from their normal 300 in church. They're operating four live Facebook church services on Sundays to fit into the schedules of those still working. Myron saw opportunity to serve when the virus hit. Providing meals for children who aren't being fed at school generated interest, and generous giving, from the larger community. The church distributed 5,000+ lunches in the past few days. The surrounding churches and the pre-Christian community are joining in. Did I mention that this kind of involvement feeds into the online church? And while most churches struggle through this thing, Mission Church's offerings are up by 70 percent. Burnout can come from all kinds of sources, but one we may neglect is the financial pressures, and the continual anxiety of trying to "make ends meet." In this episode, we have Myron Pierce on the podcast for the second time. While Myron is a pastor and church-planter, this conversation is all about how Myron has used business to support not only his ministry and the ministry of others, but also his family. Myron has started and led multiple businesses and "side-hustles" that have become a means to further the kingdom of God in his city.  As pastors and planters we often feel like we have 80% of the finances we need to support our families. That 20% gap can cause stress, anxiety and distraction. A "side-hustle" is a side project, service or business that you can monetize to close that gap financially. Many pastors and planters are getting creative and finding ways to serve, love and support their family through new found financial stability.  Connect with Myron  www.myronpierce.com
