Every year, children's pastors from across the country gather for the Children's Pastors Conference—a time to grow, connect, and be reminded of the incredible calling to reach the next generation. This year, our producer Nikki Ogden walked the halls with one question in mind: “What's the one thing you wish your senior pastor knew about your ministry?” The answers were honest, heartfelt, and deeply insightful. In this episode, we're joined by Ben Mandrell, president and CEO of LifeWay Christian Resources—and a former senior pastor himself—to explore that very question from the other side of the conversation. Ben offers a powerful perspective on how senior leaders can champion children's ministry in meaningful ways, showing up with presence, purpose, and passion. If you've ever longed for stronger support from your church leadership—or wondered how to build that bridge—this episode is for you.If this episode encouraged you or gave you a new perspective on the role of leadership in kids ministry, we'd love for you to take a moment to rate and review the podcast. Your feedback helps us reach more ministry leaders and make a greater impact. It's Thursday, December 19th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Vietnamese pastors attacked by Communists In recent months, masked attackers shot two pastors in Vietnam's Central Highlands. 62-year-old Pastor Y Hung Ayun and 57-year-old Pastor Y Pho Eban lead independent house churches. They are not registered with the communist government. Because of this, they often face harassment from officials. Thankfully, the attacks were not fatal. However, gunmen left Pastor Eban unable to walk. In Pastor Ayun's case, the attackers used rubber bullets which caused severe damage to his legs.  Please pray for the church in Vietnam. The country is ranked 35th on the Open Doors' World Watch List of nations where it is most difficult to be a Christian.  In John 16:33, Jesus said, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” Rising threat of global censorship On Tuesday, Alliance Defending Freedom announced that it is launching a new litigation team called the Center for Free Speech. The launch comes in response to the rising threat of global censorship. Phil Sechler is the director of the new group. He said, “A complex international web of shadowy government actors, nonprofit groups, and for-profit corporations are colluding to stop speech they don't like, chanting buzzwords like ‘misinformation' and ‘disinformation' as they go. The Center for Free Speech will work to expose what they're doing and hold them accountable under the law.” Alliance Defending Freedom has litigated many free speech and religious freedom cases, especially in the United States. South Carolina does not want to fund abortions through Medicaid The U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear an abortion case yesterday. The case could determine if states like South Carolina can prohibit the use of Medicaid funds for abortions. South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster previously ordered the state's Health Department to no longer provide abortion coverage through Medicaid. However, several courts ruled against the order.  John Bursch with Alliance Defending Freedom is hopeful that the Supreme Court will side with South Carolina. He said, “Taxpayer dollars should never be used to fund facilities that make a profit off abortion.” Defense bill gives pay raise to soldiers, ends trans interventions for minors The U.S. Senate passed a defense bill yesterday to boost military spending to $895 billion. The annual defense authorization bill includes pay raises for service members and a plan to increase the U.S. presence in the Indo-Pacific. The bill also ends coverage of transgender medical interventions for children of service members.  Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson said, “This legislation includes House-passed provisions to restore our focus on military lethality and to end the radical woke ideology being imposed on our military by permanently banning transgender medical treatment for minors.” Disney ends gender identity story line On Tuesday, Disney announced it is pulling a transgender storyline from Pixar's “Win or Lose” series.  The character is still in the show, but Disney removed references to the character's so-called gender identity.  A Disney spokesperson said, “When it comes to animated content for a younger audience, we recognize that many parents would prefer to discuss certain subjects with their children on their own terms and timeline.” Federal Reserve lowers interest rate The Federal Reserve cut its benchmark interest rate yesterday to a range of 4.25% to 4.5%. That's down 1% since September, and the third rate cut of the year. The Fed expects to cut rates more slowly next year since inflation is still over  2%.  The federal funds rate influences the cost of other forms of borrowing like credit cards, auto loans, and mortgages. Bible sales up 30% And finally, Lifeway Christian Resources reports a 30% increase in Bible sales over the last year. Publishers are noting an increase in first-time purchases of Bibles as well as young people getting Bibles. Tommy Doughty is an assistant professor of Theology and Christian Worldview at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He commented on the Gen Z's interest in the Bible. He said, “With loneliness and dislocation prevalent, especially in our socially-deprived youth, there is no wonder many would turn to renewed attempts at spiritual awakening.” Isaiah 55:6-7 says, “Seek the LORD while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Thursday, December 19th, in the year of our Lord 2024. Subscribe by Amazon Music or by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com. Guest: Tom Ascol, Senior Pastor, Grace Baptist Church (Cape Coral, FL)The Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) is the largest Protestant church denomination in North America, with six seminaries, 47,000 churches, 13 million church members, and entities like the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC), Lifeway Christian Resources, the North American Mission Board (NAMB), and more. Some of the most influential churches and pastors in America are part of the SBC. SBC churches are expected to give to the Cooperative Program (CP), which uses the funds for all their various entities and endeavors. In 2023, the CP budget was nearly $200M.Any organization this size with this much influence and funding is going to be a battlefield of agendas. The SBC was once moving to the left theologically but made a “conservative resurgence” in the 1980s. In recent years, the SBC has becoming wobbly on issues related to social justice, Critical Race Theory, female pastors, and more.At stake at this year's upcoming SBC Annual Meeting June 9-12 in Indianapolis is a proposed amendment to the SBC constitution, called the “Law Amendment” (named after Mike Law, the VA pastor who submitted it), that SBC cooperating churches do “not affirm, appoint, or employ a woman as a pastor of any kind.”Many SBC churches currently do employ female pastors in clear violation of God's Word that only men of high character be pastors and elders. We'll read those passages during the program.Tom Ascol, pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Cape Coral, FL and president of Founders Ministries, joins us for the fifth year running to discuss issues within the Southern Baptist Convention that have impact across broader Christianity.

Welcome to podcast 153. Today, it's a blessing and honor to welcome Thom Rainer. Our subject will be church revitalization, a subject that Dr. Rainer is an expert on… Thom S. Rainer is an author, researcher, speaker, and former president and CEO of LifeWay Christian Resources. Prior to LifeWay, he served at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary for twelve years where he was the founding dean of the Billy Graham School of Missions and Evangelism. He is a 1977 graduate of the University of Alabama and earned his Master of Divinity and Ph.D. degrees from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Thom also serves as the Founder and CEO of Church Answers, a huge and effective resource for training, equipping, and revitalizing churches and ministers. Thom, thanks for agreeing to be with us today. And welcome! INTERVIEW Thom, a while back I read an article you wrote entitled “Three Types of Church Revitalization.” Reading it helped me and our team better understand what we do, and have been doing since 2008. In that article, you wrote that “Over 300,000 churches in America need significant revitalization.” What do you think that number today? Is the church on an upswing, or is it continuing to decline? The article uses the story written in the prophecy of Haggai as a reference point. In a real sense, Israel was in great need of revitalization. Their priorities were messed up! DR. RAINER'S RESPONSE In your article, you wrote: “Like the rebuilding of the temple, there are two foundational issues that must be addressed in church revitalization. First, the church must have the right leaders on board. Second, the behavioral patterns of the church members must change. “No infusion of methodologies or innovations can take place until these two issues are addressed. Such is the reason most revitalizations fail, and only a few succeed. Let's look at that reality in light of three approaches.” I'd love for you to elaborate on these two foundational issues, and on what happened in Haggai's day. DR. RAINER'S RESPONSE It seems to me that unless leaders are honest about their current condition, and are willing to take a deep and honest dive into their own hearts and practices, revitalization will not occur. So, what are good first steps in church revitalization? RESOURCES Thom Rainer has made many, many resources available. Here are just a few… 1. Today's guest, John Chisum, was such a joy to meet and hang out with! Getting to hear his story of following God after his radical conversion to see how He opened up doors for John when he least expected it. He also talks about a very dark time during his career when he felt so depressed and hopeless that he considered taking his own life. When he was at his lowest, God presented him with a new opportunity to begin helping singers and songwriters across the world with the Nashville Christian Songwriters website and organization. Youth pastors have a tendency to know a ton of people at church, but can sometimes be known deeply by few.  For your own personal growth, mental health and spiritual health, it is so important to have close friendships that go much deeper than the superficial stuff.  Do you have those people in your life that you can open up to?  The people that you can be very real with?  The close friendships that don't just know you as a youth pastor, but know who you are to your core?  These are the people that you need in your life to lean on for support and accountability.  In this episode we take a look at why youth pastors need deeper friendships that go beyond their youth ministry.  We recently attended the Youth Pastor Summit (https://slulead.com/yps/)  where Ben Trueblood (www.studentministry.lifeway.com/ - Director of Student Ministry for Lifeway Christian Resources) and Shane Pruitt (www.shanepruitt.com - National Next Gen Director for the North American Mission Board) discussed the importance of these friendships during their talks and Q&A session.  If you haven't already signed up for the Youth Pastor Summit in your area, we encourage you to do so! https://slulead.com/yps/We love hearing from you all and we do our best to provide powerful and insightful youth ministry content on a weekly basis to be that coach and mentor you may not have, but desperately need.If you have an episode idea, please E-Mail us at MinistryCoachPodcast@gmail.com!If you have it on your heart to support this ministry, please consider going to our Patreon page at: www.patreon.com/ministrycoachYou may also enjoy these episodes:(#093) Youth Pastor Self Care: Making Time for Yourself & Avoid Burn Outhttps://www.buzzsprout.com/974710/episodes/10298852(#118) Are You Losing Your Heart for Youth Ministry? 3 Ways to Get it Back!https://www.buzzsprout.com/974710/episodes/11403641==================

After college, he worked as a High School Math Teacher in Lexington, KY at several different high schools, gaining valuable experience in a multitude of backgrounds.  At first, he worked solely with ESL students and refugees and middle-class families in the public school system before moving  to a private Christian school.   It was during this time that He chose to complete his second Master's in Guidance Counseling from the University of the Cumberlands.  After completing two years of a Master's in one year, Ryan accepted a position as a Guidance Counselor at George Rogers Clark High School.  While there, He worked with 10th-12th Graders and created a College and Career Readiness system that helped the school become a "School of Distinction".   After three years as a guidance counselor, Ryan began to work on his Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership at Morehead State University.  He completed his Dissertation in 2019 titled, "Preparing Students for the Next Level: Using 3:1 Supports to Eliminate the Transition Gap".  His research was based off a program implemented at Frankfort High School in Frankfort, KY. The high school uses a combination of technology, community members/resources, and local college resources to give students more responsibility of their own education, while holding them accountable in all aspects of student growth. After graduating with my Ed.D., He accepted his current position as Assistant Professor of Education at Union College in Barbourville, KY. At Union, Ryan teaches Graduate and Undergraduate classes in the areas of Educational Technology, Instructional Design, Mathematics,  and Professional Writing - while also serving as the Education Department's Assessment Coordinator and swim coach Check out Ryan Here: insta: https://www.instagram.com/winders111/ Rev and Rep Linktr.ee (all the show links can be found below) https://linktr.ee/revreppodcast

Stephanie sits down with Dr. Richard Blackaby, who co-authored Experiencing God with his father Henry Blackaby. Richard and Stephanie talk about their common passion for Scripture, for The Lord of the Rings, and much more! They connect on the power of the spice of the gospel, and a common passion for delight in the glory of God as the ultimately most satisfying definition of a successful spiritual life in the Messiah. If you have experienced staleness in your relationship with God... this is the episode for you! The key topic of this conversation is the power of a godly legacy through several generations. Richard and Stephanie start off by discussing some key elements of parenting through Richard's own growing-up years in the Blackaby family. Richard shares precious family memories, and experiences of faith from his parents. He highlights the essential presence of joy and laughter in their household. These are precious insights for today's parents of young and teen children! Richard says, “I can't think of a better compliment than when your grown children say they want to carry your own family traditions into their own new families.” Richard and Stephanie talk about Experiencing God, and the power of legacy through several generations being moved by this ground-breaking Bible Study, published in the early 1990's. Through this conversation, you are invited to experience the power of God's faithfulness, and the challenges of being in full-time ministry. Richard tells us the story of his father, and the process of writing Experiencing God. Finally, they also talk about the brand new CSB Experiencing God Bible, its unique features, and what Richard hopes it will provide for a new generation of Christ-followers. Might the CSB Experiencing God Bible be the perfect Christmas gift for yourself and/or your loved ones?   MORE ABOUT BLACKABY MINISTRIES INTERNATIONAL Blackaby Ministries International (BMI) was founded in 2004 to encourage Christians worldwide to know and experience God through spiritual leadership, coaching, renewal and revitalization of churches, online classes, church-wide weekend retreats, and cultural engagement. Born in British Columbia, Henry Blackaby studied English and History at the University of British Columbia and earned his Bachelor of Divinity (B.D.) and Th.M from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary (now called Gateway Seminary) in Phoenix, Arizona. Henry and Marilynn Blackaby served in several churches in California before relocating to Saskatchewan, Canada, to lead a struggling congregation that had dwindled to only 10 members in 1970. During their 18 years in Canada, they saw God work in miraculous ways, helped plant numerous churches, and reared their five children. Through those experiences, God taught the Blackabys truths about Himself that became the basis for the best-selling book, Experiencing God: Knowing and Doing the Will of God, publishing in 1990 and selling more than seven million copies. Over the last 30+ years, more than eight million people participated in the Experiencing God Study. Both the book and workbook have been publishing in over 75 languages and used by almost every denomination. Blackaby also won the Gold Medallion Award for the devotionals, Experiencing God Together and Experiencing God Day by Day. Blackaby went on to serve in a variety of leadership positions at ministries such as the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, the International Mission Board and LifeWay Christian Resources. He also served as President of Canadian Baptist Theological College for seven years. After growing up in a spiritually rich environment, all five of Henry and Marilynn's children sensed God calling them into full-time ministry. Their oldest son, Dr. Richard Blackaby, is the president of the Atlanta-based Blackaby Ministries International and is the General Editor of the CSB Experiencing God Bible. Dr. Thomas Blackaby is the lead pastor of Brookswood Baptist Church in Langley, BC, Canada. Dr. Melvin Blackaby is the senior pastor of First Baptist Church Jonesboro, GA. Dr. Norman Blackaby is a professor at Dallas Baptist University in Dallas, TX. Carrie Blackaby Webb served as a career missionary to Germany and lives in Jonesboro, GA.
