We can often times get so wrapped up in growing and making money in our detailing business that we forget to spend time either spending time with family or doing things that we enjoy. Joe with Sebring Shine and Supply is a perfect representation of not only a good human but someone who really values making an impact on people and his family. In this episode Joe shares with us what stage his business is at and the importance of not overextending. He expresses how he enjoys that his business is run the way it is so that he doesn't have to stress about a crazy amount of overhead and that he can not only provide money but provide his time to his family while he does his job. I am a huge advocate of growing an auto detailing business to match exactly what you want in your life. This means noy getting trapped into believing you have to have a state of the art facility to succeed and Joe is a true representation of that. He performs his services from home, charges what he wants, and runs a successful operation. Everybody's version of success and Joe's version of success is a true reflection of his character. He wants to make an impact on people and be the best version he can be for his family. I truly admire this of him and speaking with him opened my eyes up to a lot of things. I know we are in the industry of car detailing specifically but sometimes it is really cool to get the opportunity to just talk to people on a real level about things in life and family that carry into our detailing businesses. I think you are going to really enjoy this episode.

Welcome to Another Ask Me Anything!!! The conversation covers various topics related to coatings, mobile setups, personal experiences, and the quality of products in the detailing industry. The hosts discuss the possibility of coatings with filling qualities, the importance of shaking liquid chemicals, setting up a mobile detailing business, favorite grand tour cars, surrounding oneself with like-minded people, and personal growth as a boss. They also touch on the responsibility of detailers to use high-quality products and the role of distributors in educating customers about inferior products. In this conversation, Marshall and Nick discuss various topics related to business operations and detailing products. They address the use of wrong info in business discussions, the quality of ingredients in cleaning products, the differences between surfactants in different applications, the effectiveness of touchless car wash products, the challenges of hiring and maintaining a team, the shelf life of coatings, and their favorite flavors of High Noon drinks. Takeaways Coatings with filling qualities are not currently available, but it is a possibility for the future. Shaking liquid chemicals is a habit that can be hard to break, even when it comes to carbonated drinks. Simplicity is key when setting up a mobile detailing business, and it's important to find a setup that works for your specific needs. Surrounding yourself with like-minded people is important for personal and professional growth. Detailers should take personal responsibility for the quality of products they use on customers' cars and not settle for inferior options. Distributors should educate customers about the differences in product quality and recommend superior options. Using 'we' in business discussions can create a more professional image, even for solo operators Dish soaps and car wash soaps have different surfactants and are designed for different purposes Touchless car wash products can be effective, but they may require harsher chemicals and careful application Hiring can be a challenging process, and it's important to be open to hiring multiple candidates to find the right fit Coatings have a shelf life of around 6-12 months after opening, depending on storage conditions High Noon drinks are refreshing, and everyone has their favorite flavor Chapters 00:00 Coatings and Filling Qualities 02:21 Shaking Liquid Chemicals 06:05 Favorite Grand Tour Cars 09:41 Taking Responsibility for Product Quality 21:46 Personal Growth and Apologies 23:29 Comparing Detailing Career to Boxing/MMA 30:33 The Use of Pronouns in Business Discussions 33:47 The Quality of Ingredients in Cleaning Products 39:46 The Differences Between Surfactants in Different Applications 45:33 The Effectiveness of Touchless Car Wash Products 55:14 The Shelf Life of Coatings 57:11 Favorite Flavors of High Noon Drinks

In this episode of the Pints and Polishing Podcast, Nick answers questions from listeners about various topics related to the car detailing industry. He discusses podcasts and YouTube channels that cover the new and used car markets, as well as the auction markets. He also shares his thoughts on the best approach for paint correction on a vintage car, the importance of offering both basic services and ceramic coating installs in a mobile business, and the significance of special teams and plays in sports. Nick also provides insights on washing cars too frequently, the development of new compound and polish products, and the maintenance of vented floor tiles in a shop. He concludes by addressing questions about glass coatings, uniforms for team members, and the expectations of high-end clients in a detailing shop. Takeaways There are limited podcasts and YouTube channels that cover the new and used car markets or the auction markets. Some recommended sources for information on the auction and used car business include Mannheim auction results, the Black Book, and industry publications. When it comes to paint correction on a vintage car, the approach depends on the condition of the paint and the desired level of correction. A one-step process can be sufficient for most classic vehicles, but a two-step process with a rotary and wool pad may be necessary for achieving a higher level of correction. In a mobile business, it is recommended to offer a combination of basic services, ceramic coating installs, paint protection film (PPF), and window tinting. Basic services not only generate income but also serve as an opportunity to upsell customers on higher-end services. Special teams and plays are important in sports and can make a significant impact on the outcome of a game. They add excitement and strategic elements to the sport. Washing a car too frequently can depend on the individual's washing process. If the process is well-executed, there is no such thing as washing a car too much. However, if there are flaws in the washing procedure, excessive washing can cause damage to the paint. Developing new compound and polish products requires a balance between cutting power and finishing ability. Many existing products on the market either cut too heavily or too little. The goal is to create products that provide versatility and can achieve both a good cut and a fine finish. When it comes to uniforms for team members, it is important to provide shirts and hats, but other clothing items such as pants, shorts, and shoes can be the responsibility of the employees. It is essential to be a good employer and create a positive work environment. High-end clients value convenience and efficiency. They want their car detailing experience to be hassle-free and expect the job to be done as promised. Providing excellent customer service and handling any issues that arise are key to satisfying high-end clients. The development of non-silica waterless rinseless products is an interesting concept, but it may require harsh chemicals to dislodge embedded contaminants. While it is possible to create such products, claying is still a reliable method for removing contamination from the paint. The effectiveness of products claiming to eliminate the need for claying is still uncertain. While advancements in chemistry are possible, it is important to approach such claims with skepticism and consider the limitations of these products. When hiring employees, it is crucial to be a good employer and create a positive work environment. This includes taking responsibility for mistakes, providing fair treatment, and maintaining a strong work ethic. Building a strong team requires effort and dedication from the owner.

Last week I began sharing how my New Year got off to an unexpectedly messy start. This week I continue sharing the saga--picking up where I left off. In a nutshell, after a New Year's Eve party, I ended up going to pick Linny and a friend up in the wee hours. Much to my chagrin, on the way home said friend got sick and prolifically threw up in the back seat of my car. In this week's episode I share how it all ended. And if you're lucky in a future episode you might get to hear from my now-adult children about what this whole experience was like from their perspective. My Detailing Journey 2008-Present + What The Future May Hold The Birth of Jimbo's Auto Detailing, the Auto Detailing Podcast and the Detailing Discord. Join for FREE - www.autodetailingpodcast.com/discord Hey, I'm Jimbo, just your everyday auto-detailing professional with a soft spot for shiny cars and a sense of community. It all began on a regular afternoon; I was detailing a car in my studio, my hands coated im someone else's mess, and my mind wandering to the intricate world of auto detailing, while listening to the audio book on Elon Musk. I started pondering about the thousands like me, passionate about auto detailing, but maybe lacking a space to share, learn, and bond over it. The person sick and tired of the Reddit and Facebook groups filled with drama and questionable advice. So I was detailing this car, right, and I had to pause the book because I'm thinking, “What if there was a place, a community where people like me, professional detailers, those just starting, season vets and just people who like detailing like a pro could share insights, advice, and support, all while having a good laugh?” It was then, amidst the bottles, brushes, extension cords, lights, sweat and dirt, that the idea of the Detailing Discord was born. I envisioned it as a relaxed, inclusive space where we could swap detailing tips, troubleshoot problems, brainstorm on marketing strategies, and share social media post ideas. But more importantly, a space where we could celebrate each other's wins, be it a perfectly coated car or a newly acquired client. Join for FREE - www.autodetailingpodcast.com/discord I also aimed to make this space not just informative, but also enjoyable! I wanted to foster an environment where everyone could engage in friendly banter and feel at ease experimenting with new ideas, even if uncertain about the outcomes. Thus, I initiated free giveaways, hosted playful challenges, and orchestrated Q&A sessions, all underlined by a spirit of camaraderie and mutual respect. And here we are now, the Detailing Discord, a tight-knit community of auto detailing aficionados, exchanging knowledge and experiences, providing a helping hand, and sharing a chuckle or two. Whether it's the triumph over stubborn rock hard paint that we can't get just right or a creative marketing breakthrough, we're here to rally around each other, making our detailing journeys a bit brighter and a whole lot shinier!
