While Brian frolics somewhere in the Pacific Northwest, Jason brings in cyber-sleuth Dave Bittner for a jam-packed episode covering everything from Gen X's slow descent into obscurity to furries, feds, and face-scanning your way into porn. The guys start with a salute to the late, great Tom Lehrer—a math nerd with a piano and zero tolerance for BS—before diving into the avalanche of cyber screwups plaguing today's digital circus. The biggest spill? The so-called “safe” dating app Tea just doxxed its entire user base—because who needs privacy when you've got bad Firebase settings from 2017? Meanwhile, teens are befriending chatbots, Microsoft is issuing pink slips via PowerPoint, and Meta might be training its AI on stolen porn. Add in farmers installing turnstiles in the Dolomites to keep influencers off their grass, age verification laws that Norman Reedus can bypass with a JPEG, and Tesla diners turning into 24/7 neighbor hellscapes, and yeah—it's just another week on the internet. If you're a Gen Xer feeling invisible, underpaid, and over it, congrats—you're not alone. This episode is a full buffet of schadenfreude, digital paranoia, and good old-fashioned grump. Pour a cup of whatever's not boiling, and tune in for the roast. Creating Win/Win Where It Seems Least Likely with guest Sheriff Eric S. Higgins

The title of this episode is Creating Win/Win Where it Seems Least Likely! That's because when win/win dynamics are created and power is expanded and then used to foster the good of many, this gives everyone hope about what's possible where it might seem impossible! It also highlights what conditions and conversations are needed to get such a win/win result when it seems the least likely. This is why I am so excited to introduce my guest to you. He has had the courage and the heart to bring innovation where most people see only negative behavior, often feel hopeless, and can be harshly judgmental - when they consider prisons!    In my work in applied Adlerian psychology, I know that where positive outcomes are most mind-blowing are in prisons. That's why as soon as I set up my show in January, I immediately invited my next guest on this show! I am thrilled beyond belief to introduce you to him - Sheriff Eric. S. Higgins, best known by many for his innovative approaches to law enforcement and rehabilitation that have drawn national recognition, including being the visionary behind Netflix's Unlocked: A Jail Experiment series. This is where I became passionate about inviting Sheriff Higgins on my show. Questions I may be asking could include:   1. For most people, the prison system has always been a place to house criminals and to mete out punishment.  Can you tell our listeners about this experiment and what it is in your own background that helped you shift from a power-over, punishing mindset to one in which you prioritized encouraging the men in that unit to create a caring community?   2. I recall you saying that if we treat people as humans rather than sub-human, they will likely act better. We call this taking people out of the monster box. What helped you to see the men in the unit as capable of using their personal power in a positive way?    3. I noticed that at first, the older inmates set themselves up in the role of “elders” and proceeded to try and use a conventional autocratic “management” approach with the younger inmates which did not go over well! How did you feel as you watched the conventional control models of those who decided to be the “elders” when they showed up at the start of the project?   4. Did you feel confident about the process and how directly connected did you stay in terms of watching the video feed and adjusting your approach?   5. What did you learn and what do you think they learned from this phase of the experiment?   6. What you put in place there led to the men growing in care for one another and more focused on their future. Do you believe the lessons that you, the other law enforcement personnel, and the inmates all learned in this experiment could help our society in general and if so, what lessons specifically? And, how might they be helpful to anyone in any setting, in our society?   7. In researching you for this episode, I noticed some people were angry with your vision for this experiment because they were so deeply committed to punishment as the priority, not rehabilitation. How much resistance did you get from people before, during and after this experiment? How did you overcome it? What are your thoughts about this?   8. When authority figures in a prison system adopt a firm and respectful approach like you did, and expect goodness from people, and demonstrate a belief in equality and dignity for all, we know that recidivism is greatly reduced. We have seen this when our own psychology model has been used in a similar way. You said recidivism in your prison was around 50%. What was it at the end of the 6 weeks and what has happened since then?   9. Did you ever truly have doubts once it started?   10. How often did you watch the video feed?   11. At the end of the show, the experiment was going to be started in other cell blocks. How is it going?   12. How have things evolved and what were the greatest lessons you learned?   Watch: https://youtu.be/HTNVBxrFV3o

Yesterday afternoon, the bodies of Gene Hackman, Betsy Arakawa, and their dog were found at their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The County Sheriff's Office did not have reason to suspect foul play this early in the investigation, and there's no official confirmation on the cause of their deaths. Many have suggested it may have been carbon monoxide poisoning. The couple had been married since 1991.Betsy Arakawa, 63, was a retired classical pianist and co-owned Pandora's Box, a home furnishings store in Santa Fe which she launched with her friend Barbara Lenihan. She resolutely avoided the spotlight and cherished her privacy, never giving public interviews and preferring to live a quiet life with her husband.Gene Hackman, 95, was a Marine Corps veteran who had wanted to act since he was ten years old and pursued that dream several years after he left the service. At the Pasadena Playhouse, Mr. Hackman and his friend Dustin Hoffman were voted “The Least Likely to Succeed” and shortly thereafter moved to NYC to prove the doubters wrong and make their way into the industry. They befriended Robert Duvall, and the three struggling actors shared apartments for much of the ‘60s.All three became some of the best actors of their generation and among the greatest of all-time. Mr. Hackman won Oscars for Best Actor (The French Connection, 1971) and Best Supporting Actor (Unforgiven, 1993), along with additional nominations for Best Actor (Mississippi Burning, 1989) and Best Supporting Actor (Bonnie & Clyde, 1968; I Never Sang for My Father, 1971).He also won three Golden Globes (five additional nominations, plus the 2003 Cecil B. DeMille Award), two BAFTAs (five additional nominations), and a Screen Actors Guild Award along with the rest of the cast of The Birdcage (1997).That's all swell, but itemizing accolades doesn't come close to doing justice to the spell cast by Gene Hackman onscreen. The magic of Mr. Hackman is that he somehow played the same person and a completely different person, simultaneously, in every movie, and it always felt exactly right. If you saw his face in a movie when you were flipping channels, you stopped to watch. Because it's Gene Hackman. I mean, Hoosiers (1986). C'mon, now.Every big character Mr. Hackman has done is so individually compelling whilst simultaneously bearing hallmarks that can only be done by Gene Hackman and wouldn't be as good without them, and we completely bought it every time.It never felt like he broke himself down for characters. He seemed to just put on a costume and act his ass off. And it always worked. My favorite performance by Mr. Hackman is Captain Ramsey in Crimson Tide (1995), the commander of a nuclear submarine who is clearly emotionally unstable and paranoid.I've watched that movie so many times, and even when he's not onscreen, Mr. Hackman looms large in every frame, somehow stealing scenes he's not even in. The pettiness and resentment and narcissism of the character is so palpable that the thought still briefly crosses my mind during every rewatch: “Damn, he's gonna get ‘em all killed.”One of the more interesting “what ifs” in the history of film casting is how Mr. Hackman almost played Calvin Jarrett, the father in Ordinary People (1980), but withdrew due to a financial disagreement with the studio. The late, great Donald Sutherland was cast instead and gave a superb performance—which was infamously snubbed for a Best Actor nomination that year—but just for a second, try to imagine Mr. Hackman in that particular role. I want to see that movie, too.Mr. Hackman fully stepped away from acting in 2004 and confirmed his retirement in subsequent years, only making a guest appearance in an episode of “Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives” in 2008 and lending his voice to two Marine Corps documentaries.Ms. Arakawa and Mr. Hackman remodeled a home in Santa Fe and built a quiet and peaceful life there over the past 35 years, away from all the glitz and glamour and gossip of Hollywood and the film industry, for which neither had much patience.Their idea of a good time was spending every Friday night watching stand-up comedy, Susie Izzard being one of their favorites. Their family and friends are in my thoughts today. What a year, y'all. What a year.Charlotte's Web Thoughts is a reader-supported publication. Mitch grew up in a Jewish family in Brooklyn. The only people who survived Hitler from his grandparent’s generation was his grandparents. He was raised to believe that Christians murdered and hated Jews. Today, he’s a follower of Jesus. Wait, what?? Yep. Dr. Mitch Glasser, President of Chosen Peoples Ministries joins the team to share how Yeshua, the Messiah of Israel and of the world found the “least likely guy to follow Jesus.” We also talk about the spiritual awakening to Jesus that’s happening across the world as Jews embrace Jesus as Messiah. And how that’s connected to The Second Coming of Jesus! And we drill deep into the reasons for the rise in antisemitism and find that it’s rooted in the enemy’s hatred of God, and in God’s plan to repair the world. This is a riveting conversation. And we drill deep into the reasons for the rise in antisemitism and find that it’s rooted in the enemy’s hatred of God, and of his plan to repair the world. This is a riveting conversation. Star Tribune columnist Patrick Reusse joins host Michael Rand for a look back at the weekend in sports, but they start with a special topic of sorts: Reusse wrote recently about which of the Wolves, Twins, Wild and Vikings are most (or more aptly least) likely to win a championship before 2030, which proved to be a great jumping off point to talk about all four teams and leagues. Plus they get into the Twins snapping their five-game losing streak, Natalie Darwitz's departure from PWHL Minnesota and how Reusse never expected Caitlin Clark to be on the Olympic team in the first place.

Hey everyone, Sheevaun Moran here Driving For Your Success. And I thought I'd do a little video this morning from the secret boat and beach that I got invited to. And the message for today is about respect. I have been talking with the staff on the island and, and one of the things that they have as a tenant of their island life is respect. If you don't have respect or if you've lost respect or somebody has lost respect to you, they say you're just dead, dead to them. And oftentimes as you get on the journey of success and abundance, you start to give up respect for, you know, people who don't have what you have. You start to treat others lesser. You start to stay distanced from others. You, you do things that are uncharacteristic of you because on the way up, you really worked hard to get that respect. And you gave a lot of it. Maybe, maybe this is you, maybe it isn't. But because of respect here in these islands it really is currency. It's like currency for everyone to stay in contact and communication, not be rude or arrogant, or much more than, and you'll receive so much back for your heart. And, and maybe you've lost respect for others or yourself. But respect, I think, is one of the key tenets of success that very few people talk about. The reason I am in this particular vicinity is I get to spend a, a week on Richard Branson's, Necker Island. And I'm so curious about how the staff works. And I've been here a bunch of times, so they know me and I'm grateful. 'cause I see that those that I give respect to, they remember me, they remember conversations, they remember what I eat. Oh my gosh. They remember the little things that make a difference and that's respect. And because it's such a small community, you have to have respect, more respect than the rest of the big world because there's someone else to go and, you know, hang out with or, or community or whatever. And the thing about respect is I grew up in a very tiny community and we respected, we had this deep, deep level of respect. And it's very confounding to those who have that deep level of respect when they don't receive it or when they see others not being respected. So consider that for your success tip for today. And of course I'm not driving, but I took some planes and automobiles and, you know, things to get to this space. And it's pretty sacred. It's pretty amazing, and I definitely respect it. So I'm grateful for you being here. My name's Shavonne Moran. Go to chaon moran.com. S-H-E-E-V-A-U-N-M-O-R-A N.com. And, you know, share, like, comment, do something amazing to help, you know, help others. I mean, if you find this useful, share it. That's what we all do when we love a movie. So let's share more and dive deeper into that respect because your heart is going to explode.
