Al Bowman is a very, very busy man these days. As the executive producer for such awards shows as the “LA Music Awards”, which ran from 1991 to 2015, followed up by the Las Vegas “Fame Awards” which aired from 2016 to 2022, he doesn't sit idle long. He's now created the “Nashville Music Awards”, honoring the Top 25 independent artists throughout the Country. On this episode, we have three of the winners from the NMA in the studio to talk about their careers, and what it takes to be a successful indie artist in today's climate. These include; John Michael Ferrari, Max Rae, and Doug Robertson. Meet Al Bowman. He started out working in the LA Music Scene owning, and driving limos for such superstars as Whitney Houston, who introduced him into the world of celebrity seat filling. That provided an introduction to such luminaries as Patti LaBelle, Tommy Lee from Motley Crue, The Beach Boys Brian Wilson, and even silver screen star Martha Ray. Through a chain of events, including the 1992 LA Riots, and the emerging grunge rock scene in Hollywood, his focus changed from driving stars, to creating awards shows for stars to walk the red carpet. Enter Bill Gazzarri (“The Godfather of Rock” and the owner of the legendary Sunset Strip rock club "Gazzarri's"), and The honorary mayor of Hollywood Johnny Grant, who became mentors and the inspiration for Al Bowman to begin producing music awards shows in Los Angeles for the independent artist, with the same flair, and fanfare as the big shows provided. Bowman's awards shows included: The Los Angeles Music Awards, Hollywood Fame Awards, Phoenix Music Awards, Producer Choice Honors, and the Las Vegas Fame Awards. Al has now created The Nashville Music Awards, along with creating a non-profit organization called “The Nashville Music Foundation”, providing something to the independent creative community. Al's goal is to inspire the future of music by honoring the past. Chad Cromwell was born in Paducah, Kentucky, on June 14th, 1957. When he was three years old his family moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where he grew up. He started playing drums at the age of eight, wearing headphones as he played along to records in an upstairs room of his parents' home. By the age of twelve he was playing in garage bands in the local neighborhood. Among Chad's early influences were drummer Al Jackson and the artists of Stax Records, and artists such as Al Green on Willie Mitchell's Memphis based label, Hi Records. Jim Stewart, founder of Stax Records, along with Bobby Manuel, started a production company called The Daily Planet after the sale of Stax. Chad "hung out" and subsequently worked for The Daily Planet and learned more about rhythm and recording than anywhere else thus far. In fact, Jim and Bobby were key influences on Chad's style of drumming. In 1975, upon graduating high school, Chad flew to London to join two Memphians who already had gigs. Dave Cochran was playing bass for Chris Spedding, and Robert Johnson (not the legendary) was playing with Jon Entwhistle in Ox. Robert had been offered a record deal with Elton John's label, Rocket Records, and called fellow Memphian, Chad, along with David Cochran to record as Lash LaRue. Chad also got an "education" with Larry Raspberry & The Highsteppers, a very high powered rhythm and blues band. He started playing with legendary guitarist Joe Walsh in 1986, a collaboration which produced two albums, Got Any Gum? and Ordinary Average Guy, and resulted in multiple US and worldwide tours. The following year, 1987, Chad got the call to record with one of the world's most prolific songwriters, Neil Young. These sessions became Neil Young & The Bluenotes. After touring to promote this record, and producing MTV's 'Video of the Year,' "This Note's For You," Neil's interest circled back to 3-piece Rock & Roll which led to the New York and San Francisco recording sessions that ultimately became the album Freedom. In 1990, Chad moved to Nashville, got married and started a family. Richard Bennett and Tony Brown were among the first producers to call in Chad for sessions in Nashville. Richard and Tony have been extremely helpful in helping Chad to create a very successful recording career. Formal recognition from his peers came in 1996 when Chad was nominated for the Nashville Music Awards as Chad's career has seen him in the studio and on stage/TV/touring with an impressive list of major recording artists. In addition to those already mentioned, Chad has worked with Willie Nelson, Jackson Browne, Boz Scaggs, Wynonna, Bonnie Raitt and Peter Frampton. Chad recorded and toured with Mark Knopfler for the ten years. His playing can be heard on each and every solo recording of Knopfler's including his most recent Shangri La. During the Summer of 2006, Chad toured with Crosby, Stills,Nash and Young. Chad performed on Neil Young's Heart of Gold Movie directed by Johnathan Demme. Chad spent 2006 recording and touring with Neil Young and CSNY's "Freedom of Speech Tour". He fell in love with music shortly after birth and started playing the bass at the age of 10. He moved to Nashville in 1977, and after early gigs with Sleepy LaBeef, Billy Joe Shaver and Guy Clark, joined Don Williams' band. Dave toured and recorded with Williams for 14 years, which eventually led to a freelance career as a studio bassist and independent producer. He has played bass on more than 500 albums with artists like Elton John, Alan Jackson, Keith Whitley, Trisha Yearwood, Earl Scruggs, Emmylou Harris and The Chieftains. Dave has performed live in concert and on television with many major artists such as Steve Winwood, John Fogerty, Willie Nelson, Chet Atkins, Duane Eddy, Earl Klugh, and Dr. John. One-time gospel singer Chris Willis is best known as the powerful voice and song writer  behind the majority of French producer David Guetta's chart-topping club anthems. Born and raised in Dayton, OH, Willis began singing in a quartet with his brothers and sisters at  his local church. After graduating from college, he toured with a gospel group that  performed hundreds of gigs across California and contributed to the popular  compilation Handel's Messiah: A Soulful Celebration. In 1996, he released his self-titled  debut album, a collection of self-penned spiritual songs, which earned a nomination for  Best R&B Album at the Nashville Music Awards; supported Amy Grant, CeCe Winans,  Dolly Parton, Dusty Springfield and Shania Twain with studio backing vocals; Christian  comedian Mark Lowry; and appeared in Norman Miller's musical showcase Emmanuel. While working with French boy band 2BE3, he was introduced to DJ David Guetta, who  invited him to record at his Paris studio, where the pair co-wrote a series of tracks that  would later become worldwide hit singles, including "Just a Little More Love," "Love Don't  Let Me Go," and "Love Is Gone." After performing with Guetta on his One Love tour, they  scored a U.K. number one alongside Fergie and LMFAO with "Gettin' Over You,"  Willis was released his debut pop album, Inside Voice, in 2011 which delivered his first  Billboard #1 on its Hot Dance Club Songs Chart. Grammy-winning musical icon and legendary bassist Victor Wooten shares his spiritual views in this inspiring interview. In addition to directing production shows and conducting musical theatre, she has performed with artists such as Dizzy Gillespie, Red Holloway, Jimmy Smith, Cal Collins, Roy McCurdy, Terry Gibbs, Pete Christlieb, Edie Gorme, Bobby Militello, Kirk Whalum and Donna McElroy. A native of Anderson Indiana, Lori received a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana.Lori's first CD, "Welcome to Brazil" was nominated for "Best Jazz Album of the Year" by the Nashville Music Awards in 1997. In 2003, Lori's second CD, "Shiny Stockings, rose to #26 on the jazz charts. In 2005 she released a Brazilian Christmas album on Village Square Music. Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott was named Songwriter of the Year at SESAC’s 2008 Nashville Music Awards during ceremonies held at the performing rights organization’s Music Row headquarters. Scott earned the prestigious accolade on the strength of her co-written hits for her group Lady Antebellum (“Love Don’t Live Here”, “Lookin’ For A Good Time”). Scooter Carusoe was also honored for his Song of the Year for his “Better As A Memory” which went on to become a multi-week #1 for superstar Kenny Chesney.Shaw Enuff Songs, the publishing company for Hillary Scott, was named SESAC’s Country Publisher of the Year. But before all this was found out Kelly Lynn was on the Red Carpet for the event.
