On Love and Compassion Krishna: "He who has no ill will to any being, who is friendly and compassionate, free from egoism and self-sense, even-minded in pain and pleasure, and patient..." (Bhagavad-Gita 12:13) Jesus: "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another." (John 13:34) "But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:44-45) On Duty and Righteousness Krishna: "You have the right to perform your prescribed duties, but you are not entitled to the fruits of your actions. Never consider yourself the cause of the results of your activities, nor be attached to inaction." (Bhagavad-Gita 2:47) Jesus: "So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, 'We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.'" (Luke 17:10) On Inner Divinity and Oneness Krishna: "I am the Self, O Gudakesha, seated in the hearts of all creatures. I am the beginning, the middle, and the end of all beings." (Bhagavad-Gita 10:20) Jesus: "The kingdom of God is within you." (Luke 17:21) "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (Matthew 11:28-30) On Eternal Life and Salvation Krishna: "One who knows the transcendental nature of My appearance and activities does not, upon leaving the body, take birth again in this material world, but attains My eternal abode, O Arjuna." (John 3:16) Both Krishna and Jesus emphasize the importance of love, duty, inner divinity, faith, renunciation, and the promise of eternal life. While their contexts and specific teachings may differ, the core messages align closely, encouraging a life of compassion, devotion, and spiritual realization… as well as devotion to the “Christ/Krishna” as the way. Sometimes to the fault of irresponsibility. Now don't get it wrong, when God says move we need to be doing just that. The question is, is it truly God or just the ambitious voice in your head wanting to skip steps? The Bible says to test prophecy and hold on to what is good; or even more clear, what is GOD! Yes that means even prophecy from yourself… Look at Peter in the book of Matthew when he stepped out, ON FAITH, to walk on water to get to the destination with Jesus. Jesus told them to be courageous, yes. But Peter followed up with a double-check, not out of disbelief, but out of reassurance that he wasn't just tripping or listening to himself, but truly HEARING FROM GOD. Be encouraged to move on faith, but let your faith be a responsible move in GOD. The founder and executive director of the Interfaith Youth Core, a Chicago-based international nonprofit building the interfaith youth movement, Patel has a doctorate in sociology of religion from Oxford University and is a regular panelist for the Washington Post/Newsweek magazine On Faith blog. His core belief is that religion is a bridge of cooperation rather than a barrier of division. He's inspired to build this bridge by his faith as a Muslim, his Indian heritage, and his American citizenship. He has spoken about this vision at places like the TED conference, the Clinton Global Initiative, and the Nobel Peace Prize Forum, as well as college and university campuses across the country. He has written two books about interfaith cooperation, Acts of Faith and Sacred Ground.
