On this edition of the show I am joined by David Pleat to look back at his 6 decade life in Football as chronicled in his new book "Just One More Goal". We look at how his playing career began including a memorable England schoolboys debut and on through a playing career which was cut short due to injury before he took on his first managerial role at Nuneaton, following on from that we journey with David through times with Luton Town, Sheff Wed's Leicester and a lengthy association with Tottenham Hotspur. Think back as well to the players David has worked with over the years from Hoddle to Di Canio, and finding raw talent and nuturing including the moment he saw a 16 year old Dele Ali .
As a leading name in the design, production and fabrication of engineered solutions, Manufax in Stockport manufactures jigs, fixtures and components primarily for the aerospace, defence, automotive and nuclear industries. Now in the third generation of the Rhodes family, Manufax has just invested in a large horizontal borer from Leader CNC Technologies. The investment in a Fermat machine from Nuneaton-based Leader CNC is part of an ongoing diversification strategy. As David Baines, Group Production Director for Manufax Engineering says: “Up to and during Covid, we were heavily into the aerospace industry with around 90% of our work in the aerospace sector. We suffered hugely during the pandemic, so we needed to diversify and we now do a third of our business in the aerospace market with another third in defence and the remaining third in the nuclear sector. With this diversity, we have seen the need to invest heavily in new technology for the future.” Looking at the company's plans for diversification, David adds: “The criteria we were looking for was a good horizontal borer and I found that the Fermat machine was a very good replacement machine with modern capabilities such as the rotary table that we have built into the machine. The quality of this machine builder is excellent.” Vince Heffernan, Leader CNC Technologies Technical Manager says: “The Fermat WFT 13 is the machine that has been supplied to Manufax. Fermat is a brand that has been around for over a hundred years and it now makes over 100 machines a year. As a machine builder, Fermat will cater to the specific needs of the customer, providing fully modular machines with up to 90 tools on the ATC or a robot loading system that can load an infinite number of tools. The Fermat WFT 13 has the option of different heads, so customers can have a 5-axis head.” The machine has a 2.6 by 1.8m table with 4 by 2.5 by 1.5m of travel in X, Y and Z axes with an additional W-axis that expands by 600mm. “The advantage of the W-axis is that customers can do some deep hole boring. The machine also has a large capacity where you can fit anything on the machine. You can always do a small part on a big machine but you can't always do a big part on a small machine,” continues Vince. David from Manufax adds: “The relationship with Leader CNC has been fantastic and they have helped us with the implementation of the machine and getting Fermat engineers over here to install and commission the machine.” Adding to this, James Leet from Leader CNC Technologies says: “We work closely with Manufax as the company trusts Leader CNC Technologies as a business that they can consult with on quite a complex issue. If we were positioned to sell hundreds of machines a year, we couldn't consult and support our customers - we are not positioned to do that. We are positioned to help companies like Manufax. The word ‘partnerships' is used a lot in this industry, but you cannot make installations like this happen without a partnership approach.” Concluding on the installation, David says: “This is our first machine from Leader CNC Technologies and it's very exciting for us to be collaborating with them - and we are looking forward to the future with Leader CNC.”

Hercules Site Services PLC (AIM:HERC) CEO Brusk Korkmaz and CFO Paul Wheatcroft speak to Thomas Warner from Proactive after the UK infrastructure company released a trading update for the year to 30 September that revealed another significant year-on-year increase in revenues. Korkmaz says the company had a strong performance in its labour supply division, notably on the HS2 project, and recently announced a successful tender with Balfour Beatty rail. CFO Paul Wheatcroft gives more detail on the company's financial performance for the year, highlighting an expected 60% increase in turnover, surpassing market forecasts of £80 million in revenue. He says growth has been driven by success across the board, from labour supply to civil projects and suction excavators. Looking ahead, Hercules Site Services plans to open a training facility in Nuneaton, addressing the UK's skill shortage while generating additional revenue. The soft launch is scheduled for November, with an official opening in January. CEO Brusk Korkmaz also noted a focus on improving the utilisation rate of their suction excavators, with a goal of reaching an average minimum of 80%. The company remains busy with expanding teams and exploring potential acquisitions and partnership models. #HerculesSiteServices #BusinessUpdate #CEOInterview #FinancialPerformance #CompanyGrowth #ConstructionIndustry #InfrastructureProjects #TrainingFacility #SkillShortage #SuctionExcavators #MarketForecast #CorporateSuccess #PartnershipOpportunities #AcquisitionStrategy #UKBusiness #EconomicNews #ProactiveInvestors #hs2 #invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews

Our children and young people will be amongst those most affected by climate change, so giving them opportunities to get involved with nature and the environment from an early age is critical. In this episode, we hear from Kristie Naimo from ARC CIC and two teachers from Michael Drayton School in Nuneaton, who all share the work they are each doing with children to enable them to connect with, and protect, our environment.

This week's feature interview provides yet another take on the route into professional goalkeeping. James Belshaw has had quite the journey. A journey saturated with sliding doors. After turning down a pro contract at Walsall, he opted to put education first and fled the country to North Carolina where he earned honours in History, Business, Marketing and Management at Duke University. An offer from Chicago Fire followed, but his choice was to return home and restart a career with lowly Nuneaton. Next came Tamworth. Then Harrogate. And, slowly but surely with promotion after promotion, he realised a dream of playing EFL football. He was 30 when he made his professional debut. Now with Bristol Rovers in League One, James – who bagged Player of the Year at the Gas last season – recounts his travels in incredibly articulate fashion. Really good listen, this. Belly's a great guy with a rather unique story.
Lab worker Ross McCullam was a 30 year old laboratory assistant at ibstock brick.Living with his parents on Windsor Close, in Coalville, Leicester, He'd recently started to form a relationship with Megan Newborough.Megan was a 23 year old, she worked in the Human Resources department for the same company and she lived with her parents in Nuneaton. The last time Megan was seen alive was by a ring doorbell camera at her home. It recorded her leaving just after half past 7 On the evening of Friday 6 August 2021.From there she drove and met Ross at his parents house.Within 40 minutes after she'd arrived, Ross turned on Megan and strangled her to death. Once she was dead, he then cut her throat. He tried to kid what he had done, but it wasn't long before he was arrested. Then he tried to plead manslaughter, blaming his apparent PTSD.In this video we also look at the Phone call on Body Cam Footage, aswell as body cam footage of his arrest and 2 pieces of CCTV (one of him hiding evidence and one of Megans last sighting).--------------DISCLAIMERThis is a real, True Crime Documentary involving real people, so it's important that if you share or comment you do so with the appropriate sensitivity. ------------------------------If you like my content please subscribe. - Click here - https://youtube.com/allimsayingis?sub_confirmation=1 All I'm Saying Is, is now in lots of places, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok and wherever you listen to your podcasts. Lucinda and Alina visit London's Portobello Road to peruse the rails and speak to the managers of some of the capital's boutique charity shops about their views on the rising popularity of thrift shopping. The Charity Retail Association has reported a 10 per cent year-on-year increase in charity shop sales, bucking the wider trend of declining high street retail. The studio discussion features the CRA's chief executive, Robin Osterley, and Libby Gordon, chief executive of Fara UK, to discuss how charities can take advantage of this growing consumer appetite.Robin outlines the four different categories of charity shopper, including an expanding group of consumers prioritising sustainability, and suggests ways in which charities can increase their appeal to the respective types.Libby describes the creative ways in which Fara, which supports children and young people in Romania, has used its shops to increase its visibility and grow communities, including through interactions with social media influencers. She also discusses some of the changes Fara is making in response to rising overhead costs, such as reviewing the shops' open door policy. In the Good News Bulletin, Lucinda conducts a mini review of the range of 2023 charity calendars, with a tribute to the roundabouts of Nuneaton among the usual trend of nudes.Tell us what you think of the Third Sector podcast! Kevin is joined by Muzzy, a property dealer based in Nuneaton. He talks to Kevin about his own personal property journey and how Progressive Property helped him with his fast route to success in property KEY TAKEAWAYS Muzzy got into property almost by accident. He saw an opportunity to join a property course for free to learn about investing and this is what got him interested. It was June 2019 when Muzzy found Progressive. He did the MSOPI course first which led to him completing the Rent2Rent course and mastermind. It's essential to have a cashflow strategy when getting into property investing. It's important to gain and understanding of why you want to get into property and what it is you want to achieve. No money down felt impossible to Muzzy before he learnt about how to make it happen, now it feels so simple. Until Muzzy undertook Progressive training, he thought there was only one way to own property. The courses opened his eyes and inspired him to build his own property empire. Life has changed considerably for Muzzy and his family. It has allowed not only him to follow his passion but his wife too. The knowledge Muzzy learnt from Progressive was essential. Even now he recognises that he wouldn't have been able to have the success he has had by going it alone. BEST MOMENTS “I was still slightly sceptic until I bought my own property with none of my own money” “You can take that problem away, generate cash for yourself and help someone else [too]” “I didn't think it would happen this quickly” “I don't need to know everything I just need to know the people that know” VALUABLE RESOURCES MSOPI – Multiple Streams of Income: https://www.progressiveproperty.co.uk https://kevinmcdonnell.co.uk ABOUT THE HOST Kevin McDonnell is a Speaker, Author, Mentor & Professional Property Investor. Peterborough's Das Kapitans are in the hot seat this week for the Tom and Niallism treatment. They put out an ALBUM PER MONTH in 2021 (how is that even possible?) which has cemented their place in punk rock history. They mix whimsy anger and video game disappointment in their lyrics. We chat all things Peterborough, all things Scary Clown, we make the drummer pick which of his mates' arse cracks he prefers and we hear a tale of woe from a French highway.Tom's been back to Nuneaton, Niall seems chipper and we have the premiere of "Lucy's Lucky Dip", which this week features Fat Wreck alumni. Music is from : The Sect, Hooten 3 Car, Identity, The Red Bastards, Fabulous Disaster and Stray Cats.
About A Son is the brilliant new book by David Whitehouse, about the brutal murder of 20-year old Morgan Hehir in Nuneaton in 2015. Told from the perspective of Morgan's father Colin Hehir, it's a powerful and moving account of trauma, grief and love. This beautifully written story had a real emotional impact on me. I was delighted to speak with David about how he came to write the book, the impact it had on his own mental health and the important lessons he learnt along the way about listening, sharing and hope. In today's show I am delighted to be joined by Mick Burgoyne. Mick is one half of the folk/rock duo, Fresh Maggots, which also features Leigh Dolphin. Originally from Nuneaton in Warwickshire, England, the band's first self titled album was released in October 1971 on RCA records followed by a single. Playing the university circuit and clubs such as the famous Marquee club in London, the band also did live sessions for Radio Luxembourg (Kid Jensen show) and BBC Radio One (Night Ride and the Johnny Walker show). The duo split in 1976 but remained friends ever since. In 2017 they were contacted by a German music magazine for an interview as the original album is still very popular around the world having gained 'cult' status. Following the interview the duo decided to start writing songs again. Their second studio album 'Waiting for the Sun' on 'Coventry Music Museum Records, produced and engineered by Nick Burns, was released on 31st October 2020 almost 50 years after the first! This is a great story of 2 young talented musicians entering the music industry unexpectedly in the heady days of the early 1970s! The story also has a happy ending!
