Cortona, the alias of UK/Italy-based producer Enzo, channels decades of eclectic listening into atmospheric, groove-heavy club tracks. A formative night seeing Primal Scream with Andrew Weatherall lit the fuse for his dive into electronic music, eventually leading him to become a founding proponent of Plastic Fantastic—one of the scene's most influential progressive house labels. That legacy pulses through Cortona's work, with his recent releases finding homes on imprints ranging from Bedrock to Music To Die For. On this Balance Selections, Cortona balances analog nostalgia with modern fluidity. Featuring tracks from Mike Rish, Jamie Stevens, and Hermanez, this nearly three-hour mix leans into nocturnal energy to deliver a vintage progressive punch, weaving deep builds and emotive peaks into a seamless late-night journey. @cortona-195601059

SummaryThe conversation explores the topic of plastic water bottles and toxicity. The hosts discuss the middle ground in discussions on toxicity and the impact of the environment on health. They emphasize the importance of taking action and doing rather than solely relying on mindfulness practices. The role of the liver in metabolism is highlighted, along with the need for critical thinking and sense-making in evaluating research and personal experiences. The potential harmful effects of plastics and microplastics, as well as the dangers of dismissing personal experiences, are also discussed. In this conversation, Simon Dutton and Plastic Fantastic discuss various environmental toxins and their impact on health. They cover topics such as the effects of polyester on testicular health, the safety of microwaving food in plastic, and the challenges of creating a less toxic environment. They also touch on the importance of addressing the basics of health, such as nutrition, exercise, sleep, and hydration. The conversation emphasizes the need for individual research and decision-making when it comes to detoxification and reducing exposure to toxins.Chapters00:00Introduction: Plastic Water Bottles and Toxicity03:00The Middle Ground in Discussions on Toxicity06:14The Impact of Environment on Health08:11Stress Cup and Toxic Load12:11The Importance of Action and Doing14:31Understanding the Impact of Toxins on the Liver19:14The Role of the Liver in Metabolism23:30The Need for Critical Thinking and Sense-Making25:03The Potential Harmful Effects of Plastics and Microplastics29:06The Importance of Personal Experience and Individual Context32:01The Dangers of Dismissing Personal Experiences33:00The Impact of Polyester on Health33:24The Impact of Polyester on Testicular Health35:50Microwaving Food in Plastic and Other Concerns36:46Balancing Health Priorities and Living Life38:19The Dangers of Condescending Educators39:37The Challenge of Creating a Less Toxic Environment41:19The Rise of Seed Oils and Other Toxins43:56Addressing Mechanisms of Toxicity44:30Understanding Detoxification49:14Considering Medications and Risk Factors50:00Focusing on the Basics for Health53:20Taking a Realistic Approach to Environmental Concerns55:28The Importance of Self-Care and Personal ResponsibilitySupport the Show.Get in touch by heading to...Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kingsleyduttonYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCUTkN8Dcin4LSHBt0-Q46QEmail: https: Simon@madecoaching.comWebsite: www.madecoaching.com
Podcast listeners click here to view the works Caroline Zilinsky's paintings freeze pivotal moments in our culture's history, encouraging us to reflect upon our times, whether it's the absurdity, the horror or the humour. At the risk of being labelled a conspiracy theorist, she's attracted to the dilemmas brought on by the internet era and shines a light on the things that trouble most of us: our loss of privacy, shortened attention, a heightened focus on appearance, a growing indifference to human suffering and the increasing power assumed by tech giants. Her paintings often depict a political or social narrative and although she accepts some are too confronting to hang above the sofa, there's something about the levity in her use of line, colour and form which invites us to venture into the darker corners of our culture, causing us to linger and question. Caroline is also well known for her portraiture and landscape painting. She won the Portia Geach Memorial Award portraiture prize in 2020 (the same year she won the Evelyn Chapman award) and has been a finalist in many others including the Archibald and Darling portrait prizes. This interview took place at the mid-career survey show of Caroline's work 'Exquisite Cadaver' at the University of Newcastle Gallery. Curated by Gillean Shaw, it was a collection of 40 stunning works spanning over 2 decades. The interview was also filmed and I'll be posting a video, including footage from the exhibition and Caroline's studio, on the TWP YouTube channel in the coming weeks. Old plastic to some, treasured memories for others. The toy collecting market now means big money. At a Toy Collector's Fair in Birmingham in the UK, around 3,000 collectors and over 550 sellers are hunting for a bargain or looking for the "Holy Grail" toy to complete their collections. Can the toys of our childhoods really be worth thousands of dollars?

If you were anywhere near social media at the start of August, you'll have seen endless claims of a massive, world-changing breakthrough in physics: the LK-99 room-temperature superconductor. In this episode, Tom and Stuart—neither of them anything approaching a physicist, so caveat emptor—discuss what a superconductor is, why it would be exciting (or not) for it to work at room temperature, and ask why people online got so excited over claims that one had been discovered… when it actually hadn't. The Saturn brand was meant to reinvent car buying and manufacturing, but instead it lasted only 25 years and it's parent company GM went bankrupt. How did Saturn start? Were they any good? And what convinced Adam's family to buy one in 1996? All that and more on this week's Best in Class.
Polymeren of polyminderen?
