It was almost exactly 10 years ago that the Portland Timbers visited Starfire Stadium for what would ultimately be known as the Red Card Wedding. With the Timbers returning to Starfire on Tuesday, now seems like a good time to re-release this episode that was first recorded in 2017.Back then, Jeremiah teamed up with former SB Nation colleague Richard Farley and Soccer Made in PDX's Chris Rifer to record and produce this episode. It features such notable voices as Brad Evans, Lamar Neagle, Andy Rose, Ross Fletcher, Caleb Porter, Jack Jewsbury and Nat Borchers as well as Jeff Hosking, who was an assistant ref in the game. For the uninitiated, this was among the more surreal games in Sounders history. It most famous featured Clint Dempsey getting ejected and literally ripping up the referee's notebook, but it also featured two other red cards (which combined with Obafemi Martins' injury forced the Sounders to finish the game with seven players).Even before that, the match was shaping up as a classic with two heated rivals trading blows in a match that went to overtime. You'll definitely want to give it a listen.***Nos Audietis is the flagship podcast for Sounder at Heart, which became a reader-supported website on Aug. 21. In other national team news, I discuss Bright Osayi-Samuel's move to Fernebahce from QPR, NFF president Amaju Pinnick's approval to run for a FIFA council seat & I pay respects to former national team assistant manager Joe Erico who sadly passed away recently. I then deep dive into the new eligibility rules for a Governing Body Endorsement (GBE), which is the new required work permit for any non-British players wishing to play in the Premier League and how it affects our current national team players I give flowers to the throwback Super Eagle of the week Finidi George & touch on a warning moment in our recent history in 2005/2006 where we failed to qualify for the World Cup after losing out on head-to-head scoring to Angola & finishing 3rd in AFCON 2006 and how thay may have affected Obafemi Martins' legacy in Europe before rounding off with the Ones to Watch over the coming weekend. Wellington Phoenix are hoping to use the A-League's marquee fund to help mount a bid for former Inter Milan and Newcastle United star Obafemi Martins. The Phoenix have received the green light from Football Federation Australia to pursue Martins, who is currently contracted to Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua. It comes after Wellington's previous attempt at signing Michael Essien fell flat, but they remain firmly in the market for a big-name recruit at the right price. Former Manchester United fringe defender Ritchie De Laet has been linked with Melbourne City in a move that would reunite the Belgian with coach Warren Joyce. Capped twice by Belgium, De Laet is currently on the books of Aston Villa - whom he joined from Leicester in 2016. However a switch to City - most likely on loan - is looking increasingly likely for De Laet, whose contract expires in mid-2019.

In so many ways, 2016 has been the worst season in Seattle Sounders history. It started with one of the most tumultuous offseasons in their brief history as they lost several fan favorites, including Obafemi Martins. It continued with frustrating loss to Club America in CONCACAF Champions League and into the regular season with three straight losses, a 6-12-2 start and a week spent in last place. Even one of the biggest highlights — signing Nicolas Lodeiro — was preceded by nasty negotiations with Boca Juniors and followed by Clint Dempsey's heart issues. There were off-field issues as well, starting with the whole mobile-ticketing fiasco and several public disagreements between the front office and supporters groups. Given all that, it's not shocking that Adrian Hanauer still has mixed emotions heading into Saturday's MLS Cup, as he admits that he takes each failure personally. We talked to Hanauer in his Pioneer Square office above The Ninety on Thursday for what we feel is some interesting insight into a season that may well end on the highest high in Seattle soccer history.

The guys save the tactical talk for Thursday in Toronto, where Sigi Schmid will bring his expertise to the table. Instead, it’s time to learn about how Toronto FC and the Seattle Sounders were built with the men who did the building. First up is Toronto FC general manager Tim Bezbatchenko, who explains why the salary cap is even trickier than you think and how he went about putting the pieces together after getting the job in late 2013. What happened with Jermain Defoe? How’d the Michael Bradley and Jozy Altidore deals get over the line? How would an MLS Cup victory change the club and the city?   After the break, Sounder GM Garth Lagerwey calls in after a trip to South America to dish on Seattle's roller-coaster 2016 season. Next up? Another flight, this one to Europe, then an MLS Cup appearance that nobody thought possible in July. How shocking was it when Obafemi Martins took off in February? How crucial was Jordan Morris’ decision to eschew Germany for his hometown club? Did Luis Suarez help seal the Nico Lodeiro deal? Did analytics play a role in the Sounders (and Toronto FC’s run)?   In the mailbag, the Best XI drops and Matt gives his own team of the year, ATL UTD makes a splash in the transfer market and drafts of all different varieties are on the horizon.

Last week Orlando City needed four to six points out of its two matches against Eastern Conference opponents. The Lions got a single point. Playoff positions are slipping through Orlando's fingers but we remain hopeful that the reinforcements will be able to lift the club into the top six.  We break down the tough 4-1 loss at Toronto and the 0-0 home draw against Philadelphia Union. We cover Tommy Redding's debut, Conor Donovan's horrible injury and everything else from two matches that we will probably want to forget. But we also look at the bright side and give you our Man of the Match from each game. Sounder at Heart Managing Editor Dave Clark jumps on to preview Sunday's big match-up at CenturyLink. Obafemi Martins will be back. Clint Dempsey won't. Find out who else will (and won't) be in the lineup Sunday and what you can expect from this weekend's match. Dave's passion shines through as he talks about his Sounders. And we answer your questions in our Ask TML segment, covering the new stadium, breakfast cereal and other topics of note. Here's the breakdown: 0:26- Notes from Toronto and Philadelphia, covering two less-than-spectacular results. Attacking wingers, Luke Boden, Tommy Redding, Conor Donovan and our Man of the Match from each contest. 18:03- Dave Clark joins us to help us preview Sunday's big game and gives us the Seattle point of view. He's excited! 40:24- Ask TML answers that age-old question: Count Chocula or Franken-Berry? Plus others! And we give you our predictions for Sunday!   Learn more about your ad choices. Since there is ever so much soccer, its a Filibuster on a Monday! We start by reminicing about howl long it has been since we recorded on a Sunday (miss you, Martin), before getting into the meat of the podcast. D.C. United actually played Chicago last week, and we talk about Conor Doyle's golazo and the formation that the team employed in that game. We also talk about the draw against Toronto FC, and start off with the stellar performance of Steve Birnbaum in that game. We then talk about the defense overall and how impressed we were by them and how they did not give up a goal against one of the highest-priced attacks in the league. Finally, we talk about how TFC didn't really create many chances, despite the popular narrative that they dominated the game. We move onto tomorrow's game against the Philadelphia Union in the US Open Cup, and how the Union have been burning up their starters in the league. We argue that they should concentrate on the Open Cup, because they have a better chance at pulling a 2013 D.C. United then doing well in this regular season. We also talk about Friday's game against the Seattle Sounders, who will be getting Clint Dempsey back from suspension but will be missing Obafemi Martins. We compare Dempsey's suspension to what Cuauhtémoc Blanco got, and then talk about what Dempsey will do in this game and how United will have to play to win. Finally, we talk more about the 2015 World Cup and start with discussing their high press. We ask whether or not missing Lauren Holiday and Megan Rapinoe made the USWNT better, their central midfield tactics, and how the United States will approach this game against Germany.

A mid-week snoozer against Edmonton, yes, but a big derby match on Saturday will save us. Right, Marc Weber? The Province's soccer writer joins Patrick Johnston to figure out the Whitecaps' Voyageurs Cup plan after their poor 1-1 showing against the Eddies. The Sounders may or may not have Obafemi Martins in the lineup, but they'll still have Clint Dempsey.

The latest USMNT roster is out, and the guys break down the ins and outs of Jurgen Klinsmann's choices. The biggest questions, obviously, surround Landon Donovan? Should he start? How should his legacy be honored? Will he cry? Plus, how will the group change ahead of Honduras? Meanwhile, in MLS, the battle is on for the Supporters' Shield and MVP award. It comes down to the LA Galaxy and the Seattle Sounders and Robbie Keane and Obafemi Martins. Who's side are you on? Fox Soccer's Kyle McCarthy knows who his vote is going to. Out East, some are wondering whether Jermaine Jones is proving he's the better of the two USMNT Designated Players that have arrived since the new year. Michael Bradley would have something to say about that. Also, what's going on with Tim Cahill in New York? Last, but certainly not least, listeners wonder whether Donovan's assist mark is cheapened by second assists and what it would take to get Simon on SnapChat.
