A lot of bands are lucky enough to carve a career with one big hit. If they're even luckier, they'll ride the wave of an impactful album for decades. But for melodic metalcore heavyweights https://www.premierguitar.com/gear/rig-rundown-all-that-remains-oli-herbert-and-mike-martin (All That Remains), who are honoring their game-changing The Fall of Ideals with a full album play, it's not even their most-popular record. Following on the energy and success of that influential 2006 album, they released five straight albums that landed in the top 10 of Billboard's U.S. Rock chart. The coal fueling All That Remains' locomotive is their propulsive guitar work. The original firepower was supplied by cofounding shredmeister Oli Herbert who was originally flanked by Chris Bartlett. Current rhythm rifleman Mike Martin replaced Bartlett in 2004 and provided the classically trained Herbert a solid substratum to dance all over. That duo defined ATR's harmonious heaviness, https://www.premierguitar.com/mort-deaths-apprentice-gothenburg-metal-riffs (Gothenburg) groove, and aggressive attitude for almost 15 years before Herbert's untimely passing in October 2018 just weeks before releasing their ninth trouncing album, Victim of the New Disease. Since then, the band has continued with blazing flamethrower https://www.premierguitar.com/videos/hooked/jason-richardson (Jason Richardson) (Born of Osiris and Chelsea Grin). Before All That Remains' May 10th headlining show at Nashville's Basement East, PG's Perry Bean had to pick his jaw off the floor and re-screw his skullcap on after seeing the amazing instruments both guitarists Mike Martin and Jason Richardson brought on tour. Martin detailed his beautiful https://www.premierguitar.com/gear/prs-s2-custom-24-review (PRS Custom 24)s while Richardson offered a sneak peek at his second batch of signature https://www.premierguitar.com/news/ernie-ball-music-man-darkray-jason-richardson (Ernie Ball Music Man Cutlass models). Collaborating with other staple musicians such as Jonathan Donais, Jimi Bell, “Metal” Mike Chlasciak, and the late Oli Herbert was a big part to the overall sound of this album – and Marc goes into his own influences that helped Let Us Prey achieve the tone they wanted. It was a long first chapter for Marc and his new crew, but it's the first of many to come in this hard working career he has unleashed. Todd Stern of Psycroptic is our guest this week. We discuss his role in the latest record As The Kingdom Drowns, the addition of female vocals over choruses, if there was a hazing process when he joined the band, the logistics of him living in the States and the rest of the band living in Australia, switching from guitar to bass to be in Psycroptic, acclimating to the Australian lingo of his bandmates and which of their records he would love to perform in its entirety. We also talks about the best way to introduce young fans to your band, how backing tracks for live shows can be a slippery slope for metal bands and the importance of writing songs with replay value.  Petar, Brandon, and Joz can't get enough of the story about Threatin's European tour, and we read aloud the statement made about Oli Herbert in regards to his toxicology report and how the delivery makes us feel about the situation. Song: Psycroptic - “Directive” Psycroptic - “Frozen Gaze” Blind Sight - “Empathy Astray”

A few weeks ago the rock world lost one of it's great guitarists in Oli Herbert from the band All That Remains. Kaytie and I were both lucky enough to have met Oli and everyone from ATR on numerous occasions and I know for me personally they quickly become some of my favorite people in music. November 9th sees the release of the 9th studio album 'Victim of the New Disease.' Mike Martin is the other guitarist in All That Remains and in the middle of Kaytie and I talking about the band Mike and I had a fantastic conversation about Oli, about the new record, some good natured ribbing of Phil LeBonte, playing in the rain and more. EP79 is with the late, great and powerful Oli Herbert. This podcast was recorded a week before his passing. Quite possibly the last recorded interview with the man. It was devastating to hear of his passing and hopefully this will bring some love into the hearts of his friends and family. I couldn't help but smile & cry as I was editing this episode, listening to him play his guitar throughout. Thank you Oli for your friendship, time and everything you did while on this Earth. They say some people can look intimidating and that's how Killswitch Engage frontman Jesse Leach was once perceived,  but once you get to know the guy (or at least have a chat with him) you realise just how human and similar to the rest of us he really is, so you can imagine how stoked we were to have the metal frontman co-hosting on this week's episode of Wall of Sound: Up Against The Wall ahead of their appearance down under next week supporting Parkway Drive + their own headline shows. A man with a few stories behind his belt (and his own podcast show to share them too) he was more than happy to open up  about his recent throat surgery which, if he didn't act on sooner, could have ended his career fronting the infamous metalcore outfit which he took over the reigns of following the departure of former vocalist Howard Jones, a man Jesse sparked up a long overdue friendship with not too long ago which cleared the air between the band members and consequently resulted in a wild collaboration no fan saw coming. Yes, he goes into detail about that too. Podcast host Browny also pays respect to All That Remains founding guitarist Oli Herbert who has passed away at age 44, merely weeks away from the release of the band's ninth studio album Victim of the New Disease. There's also New Music from Soilwork, Amaranthe, Soulfly, Affinity Minus Perfection and Psycroptic, throwbacks from Rob Zombie, Arch Enemy, Deprivation and heaps more... #WoSUATW #KillswitchEngage #JesseLeach #KSE #Metalcore #ParkwayDrive #WinstonMcCall #AllThatRemains #OliHerbert #AffinityMinusPerfection #Soilwork #Soulfly #RobZombie #AustralianBands #Reverence #ArchEnemy #LightTheTorch #HowardJones #Psycroptic #Deprivation #Amaranthe #Podcast #MusicPodcast #HeavyMetal #Metal #WallOfSoundAU
