This episode contains: Daylight savings hit, and we're all just trying to cope. Real Life (or Whatever That Is) Devon Saw Apocalyptica in Dallas—three cellists and a drummer, blasting Metallica covers. It was energetic, intense, and apparently, the drums were a standout. Nita Strauss opened, because Devon only goes to shows with legendary guitarists involved. Also, he went to a production of Cheaper by the Dozen, which was… a different vibe entirely. Steven got into Marvel Crisis Protocol, which he describes as similar to Shatterpoint. More importantly, he won his first game against his friend Greg, which obviously means he's an expert now. Devon saw Wicked and was deeply underwhelmed. (Expect fan outrage.) Ben went to a production of Million Dollar Quartet, which tells the story of a legendary jam session between Elvis, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins. If you don't know what that is, here's a Wikipedia link: Million Dollar Quartet. Future or Now (Depends on Your Perspective) Remember Me! Steven presents a real-life prequel to Fallout. Sweden is burying its radioactive nuclear waste in sealed bedrock for 100,000 years. The challenge? How do we make sure future generations don't dig it up and think, “Oh cool, ancient glowing rocks!” Scientists have some ideas, and they range from the practical to the deeply sci-fi. Check it out: Science Daily | Highly radioactive nuclear waste: how to keep it from oblivion A PDF of the actual Key Information File CALM DOWN, JEEZ Ben brings us a podcast from NPR and the TED Radio Hour about how we handle emotions, featuring insights from neuroscientist Ethan Kross on managing emotional overwhelm. Science-backed coping mechanisms? Yes, please. An example: talking to yourself in the second person to coach yourself. Listen here: NPR - Ethan Kross on Managing Emotions Also, Ben's dog has got Diabetes insipidus, which, despite the name, has nothing to do with regular diabetes. More on that here: Diabetes Insipidus Book Club: Continuing coverage of the novella To Be Taught, If Fortunate by Becky Chambers. This week, our crew traveled to Mirabilis (also the name of the chapter we read)—a planet of ice, deep-sea creatures, and they brought with them some existential dread. Some key themes: Survival of the fittest (but at what cost?) The emotional toll of killing an animal for survival Missing communications from Earth The sheer terror of the unknown Devon asked, “Are they vegan?”—a question inspired by his recent reading of Animal Liberation Now. Also, sometimes Devon's not in the mood for fiction, but Becky Chambers' writing is worth it. Next week: the chapter “Opera” (same book, different planet).
About Leah Martin-BrownEven before picking up her first guitar at age 11, Leah Martin-Brown knew she was destined to become a musician.Born in Brisbane, Queensland and raised in the beautiful beach town Burleigh Heads, Leah would play anywhere there was a stage- oftentimes begging family friends who owned bars and restaurants to let her set up and play a few tunes. By the time she was 16, Leah was writing, recording and performing her original music all over the Gold Coast and surrounding areas- regularly being booked for locally run festivals, youth events and the occasional nightclub with her newly named project 'Lilly Rouge'.Leah finished high school and was accepted into the 'Bachelor of Popular Music' program at Griffith University which she graduated from in 2011. Still knowing that she desperately wanted to continue writing and performing music but not quite sure how to support herself doing so, Leah moved down to Melbourne in Victoria and began working on a Master of Music Education at Melbourne University. While she did not fall in love with teaching, she found new life within the vibrant Melbourne music scene, inspiring her to immediately change her hair colour to her signature red and, also, to defer her Degree and begin fully focusing on her band- 'Lilly Rouge'.September 2012 saw Leah return to her home state of Queensland to begin writing and recording with Brisbane based Producer, Stuart Stuart (The Veronica's, Sheppard). The two co-wrote over 30 tracks, most of which were released on 'Lilly Rouge" records. This set Leah and her band up for two Australian National tours, support slots for 'Everclear', 'Presidents of the United States' and 'The Getaway Plan' and a set at 2013's 'Big Day Out' Festival. This caught the eyes and ears of Los Angeles, CA based A&R Company- A&R Worldwide. They invited Leah to California to work on some new music with Producer, Brian Howes (Airbourne, Skillet, Hinder, Nickelback) and showcase at music industry event 'Musexpo'. It was at this point that Leah disbanded Lilly Rouge and created 'Evol Walks'.Leah spent the next 5 years extensively playing shows in her new home of Los Angeles, CA as well as touring through Australia, West Coast USA and parts of Europe, releasing 2 EPs and several singles with the band.In 2020, Leah relocated to Stockholm, Sweden where, as well as writing and recording new music, she was given the opportunity to work and record an album with legendary Producer & Songwriter Robert ‘Mutt' Lange and acclaimed songwriter & producer Tony Nilsson. In 2024, Leah Martin-Brown spends the bulk of her time in Los Angeles, CA but is consistently travelling the world writing, recording and playing wherever she can.She has shared the stage with Dreamtheatre, Flogging Molly, Nita Strauss, Glen Sobel, Johnny Depp and Joe Perry and many more.

S8E4 was prerecorded on 22 Jan 2025 to allow me to attend the Green Day, Offspring, and Fokofpolisiekar gig live in Cape Town on 23 Jan the night this show went out on Rebel Rock Radio. And what a gig it was. It seems like forever since South Africa got International bands of that calibre. The last time I was out for a show was for Guns N' Roses in 2018, and then Covid happened and KISS got cancelled and that was the last time I was at a live gig. So, it was amazing and one of the best shows I have ever seen. Hats off to Fokofpolisiekar who show just how good they are amongst the best international acts in the world Anyway back to this show. We had all the normal features; Twisted Triplets, Evolutions: Judas Priest, The Immortals, and This Week in Rock and Metal, PLUS The Diabolical Challenge is back. In support of the 30th and 20th anniversaries of their records Dookie and American Idiot, Green Day arranged the summer's best stadium-rock tour, with support from Smashing Pumpkins and fellow Bay bashers Rancid. PG's Chris Kies met up with Rancid bassist Matt Freeman just before the tour's stop at Nashville's Geodis Park. In this Rundown, in addition to trotting out his breadwinner bass rig, Freeman tells Kies his bass origin story, including his early and enduring influences, and shares how he developed a unique playing style suited to his smaller hands. They defined an entire era of pop-punk with their 1994 major-label debut, Dookie, then did it all over again 10 years later with the punk-rock-opera American Idiot. This year, Idiot turns 20; Dookie is 30.To celebrate the milestones, Green Day has been blasting through stadiums across North America playing both albums in full, back-to-back, with a few odds and ends from their 30-plus years together, plus choice hits from their 2024 record, Saviors. It's a ton of ground to cover—especially considering each epoch seems to have different and defining sonic characteristics. The guitar and bass tones on Dookie alone are the subject of amp mods, guitar pedals, and signature guitars. At the band's Nashville stop at GEODIS Park, techs Darian Polach and Gabe Monnot, who manage the rigs of bassist Mike Dirnt and guitarist Jason White respectively, took Premier Guitar's Chris Kies through the rockers' gear wardrobes for this mammoth tour. The Charismatic Voice's Elizabeth Zharoff is our special guest for this week's edition of the MetalSucks Podcast! Here to promote her Kickstarter campaign for the first ever harsh vocal research study featuring some of our genres biggest names. Elizabeth tells us about the journey that started with Will Ramos of Lorna Shore two years ago. She also outlines some of the real stage consideration that will be taken into account, if there is a possibility to find some real damage on any of the participants, which vocal cords are the easiest to damage for a vocalist, and how this science will help doctors with vocal therapy in many cases. We also discuss her opinion on vocalists that use backing tracks in music and if she'll declare a favorite band from all the artists the participate in the research. Petar and Jozalyn discuss the whirlwind announcement of Linkin Park reuniting, how the single and new vocalist where initially received, followed by a questionable decision made to support a convicted predator, if this will derail the momentum of Linkin Park reuniting. Additionally, we celebrate James Hetfield working in a film version of the excellent Joe R. Lansdale novel The Thicket, and Nita Strauss crossing nine years of sobriety. LA Lloyd talked with Nita Strauss during her headlining tour with Diamante and Starbenders. They talked about Nita's album Call of the Void which she described as an "educational experience as a songwriter." The difference in this album compared to her previous ones was the approach of writing songs that were not only for herself but others she worked with. This led to collaborations with the likes of Lzzy Hale, Dorothy and the Number One song Dead Inside with David Draiman from Disturbed. Nita was asked if she considers herself a role model. Her take on it is if someone looks at her as one, she takes it very seriously. She hopes fans that look up to her can sense the positive vibe she gives off. It's a celebration of her getting away from the self-destructive ways she had been channeling earlier in her life.
Episode #222 Dorothy's new song MUD is out now and her new album is still in the works, so she checked in with Mistress Carrie to talk about the new music, her collaborations with Scott Stapp, Nita Strauss, Slash and Staind. Hailing from Charlotte, North Carolina, Forever May Fall is a four-piece rock band that's on the rise. Founded in 2017 by vocalist and songwriter Jillyan "Fox" Brennan, Forever May Fall is rounded out by Crevar (guitar/vocals), Crabby (drums), and Patrick "Sweez" Swesey (bass). After releasing their self-titled, debut LP in 2019, Forever May Fall had their momentum halted from the COVID-19 pandemic and a lineup change. Since that time, the band has honed their craft and polished their sound with the new lineup. With influences ranging from Evanescence, Bad Omens, Halestorm, Underoath, and Spiritbox, Forever May Fall has put their songwriting and musical chops on full display since the pandemic. Their 2022 single "Aftermath" has garnered over 350,000 streams on Spotify alone, while the music video for their latest single "Who You Are" has over 59,000 YouTube views since its August 2023 release. Having worked with producers like Joshua Landry (Motionless in White, LØ Spirit, Funeral Portrait), Kile Odell, (Fozzy, Motionless in White, Nita Strauss) and Wes Lauterbach (Lowborn), Forever May Fall is just scratching the surface of their potential with new music in store for 2024. In this episode, Colt and Crabby catch up with Mike about what they've been up to since the last time they spoke, including their tour earlier this year with their friends in MKNLY, meeting new fans on the road who love their music, what it's been like to see the streams and music video views for Forever May Fall continue to rise, defining what success means to them, the importance of mental health, the new music the band has in store for 2024, and more. This week we offer up the 12th installment of our series called, “Degrees Of Separation…” where we discuss side projects and solo releases from artists we love. We are celebrating the adjacencies to a true rock n' roll icon: ALICE COOPER. Not much to say about the man, the myth, the legend. Capn'n Content suggested that we focus our listening to the gunslinger guitarists that have supported the Coop throughout his long career. So, that's what we are doing! Enjoy.New to InObscuria? It's all about digging up obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal from one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. While we may be talking about an artist that many of you know in this episode, perhaps you are not aware of the depth of the side projects that the guitarists who've supported him over his 50+ years have. Our hope is that we turn you on to something new!Songs this week include:Hollywood Vampires - “The Boogieman Surprise” from Rise (2019)Billion Dollar Babies - “Too Young” from Battle Axe (1977)Electric Angels - “Dangerous Drug” from Electric Angels (1990)Lou Reed - “Vicious” from Lou Reed Live (1975)Kane Roberts - “Rock Doll” from Kane Robers (1987)Tokyo Police Club - “Little Sister (feat. Join me Jason LaChance host of the Knockin' Doorz Down podcast, certified addiction recovery coach, and mental health advocate for my sit down with special guest "Hurricane" Nita Strauss. You know Nita Strauss for her work with Alice Cooper, Demi Lovato, and her latest solo album 'The Call Of The Void'. But what you may not know is that Nita struggles with alcoholism. Nita and I discuss how her childhood as well as being a traveling musician played into her substance abuse. As well as how her fiance made it clear that he loved her but could no longer allow her access to him if she didn't make a change for the better. Now sober over 7 years, Nita shares how Alice Copper himself, and other rock legends such as Zakk Wylde and Nikki Sixx lent support to her recovery. We also talk about her time working with Demi Lovato, and how she got a Superbowl ring as a part of the RAMS Superbowl run. Plus performing Shinsuke Nakamura's entrance song at WWE's Wrestlemania. We finish our conversation with fun random questions and Nita Strauss finishes with final thoughts. This is Nita Strauss Knockin' Doorz Down. We had the pleasure of interviewing SAUL over Zoom video!Saul issue a call for connection in their music. The Iowa quartet—brothers Blake Bedsaul [lead vocals] and Zach Bedsaul [lead guitar, backup vocals], William McIlravy [bass, backup vocals], and Myles Clayborne [drums]—continue to bring audiences together with a one-two punch of precise and pummeling metallic grooves and towering magnetic melodies. Amassing tens of millions of streams and earning acclaim from Revolver, Guitar World, Loudwire, and many more, the group fortify an unbreakable bond with listeners on their second full-length offering, THIS IS IT…THE END OF EVERYTHING [Spinefarm].Saul emerged out of the Midwest in 2017 and tirelessly bulldozed a path to the forefront of modern rock. They notably performed alongside everyone from Motionless In White, Atreyu, August Burns Red, Crown The Empire, Bush, and 10 Years to HELLYEAH and Nonpoint in addition to gracing the stages of festivals, including Rebel Rock, Rock Fest, Rock USA, Inkcarceration, and Blue Ridge Rock Fest with Rob Zombie, Mudvayne, and Slipknot. The group independently landed a bona fide hit in the form of “Brother”—an homage to the co-founders' late brother Caleb. It marked their first #1 on Sirius/XM Octane in addition to gathering over 9 million Spotify streams and paving the way for their 2020 full-length debut, Rise As Equals. Co-written with David Draiman of Disturbed, “King Of Misery” reeled in 3.7 million Spotify streams, while “Trial By Fire” also surpassed 3 million Spotify streams. Of the former, American Songwriter praised“‘King of Misery' wasted no time jumping into the heavy mainstream riffs that Saul set out to wrangle,” and Outburn hailed its “futuristic and cinematic video.”Expanding the sonic palette, the guys collaborated with producer Kile Odell [Motionless In White, Nita Strauss] this time around. They initially teased this chapter with “JACK & JILL,” which tempers a hypnotic harmony with a heavy groove. On its heels, they unleashed the single “A MILLION MILES.” Co-written with Johnny Andrews [Three Days Grace, Starset, Theory of a Deadman], a seesawing riff and electrifying melody give way to a chant-able chorus laced with raw emotion befitting of the central theme.Hummable keys set the tone for “RUNAWAY,” dissolving into a harmonic riff. The breathy verses break like a wave on a refrain tailor-made for a live singalong, “Treat me like a runaway, because I'm vanishing. I don't think I'll be missed.”An ominous sample snaps into a pummeling chug on the opener “TOOTH & NAIL.” Clean vocals snake through the verses towards a warning, “There's no escape.”Then, there's “BETTER AS A MEMORY.” It swings between schizophrenic extremes highlighted by unpredictable instrumental dynamics and a heart-wrenching vocal performance, “Deep down you know, I'd be better as a memory.”In the end, Saul create the soundtrack for breaking free.We want to hear from you! On this episode of March Forth with Mike Bauman, Mike chats with Forever May Fall! Hailing from Charlotte, North Carolina, Forever May Fall is a four-piece rock band that's on the rise. Founded in 2017 by vocalist and songwriter Jillyan "Fox" Brennan, Forever May Fall is rounded out by Colt Crevar (guitar), Patrick "Sweez" Swesey (bass), and Adam "Crabby" Crabtree (drums). After releasing their self-titled, debut LP in 2019, Forever May Fall had their momentum halted from the COVID-19 pandemic and a lineup change. Since that time, the band has honed their craft and polished their sound with the new lineup. With influences that include the likes of Evanescence, Bad Omens, Halestorm, Underoath, and Spiritbox, Forever May Fall has put their songwriting and musical chops on full display since the pandemic. Their 2022 single "Aftermath" has garnered over 221,000 streams on Spotify alone, while the music video for their latest single "Who You Are" has over 35,000 YouTube views since its August 2023 release. Having worked with producers like Joshua Landry (Motionless in White, LØ Spirit, Funeral Portrait), Kile Odell, (Fozzy, Motionless in White, Nita Strauss) and Wes Lauterbach (Lowborn), Forever May Fall is just scratching the surface of their potential in the modern rock charts. That potential has even been recognized locally in Charlotte by the Queen City Nerve, who listed the band in the "Best Potential Breakout Artist" category for their "Best in the Nest 2023" nominations. In this episode, Jill, Colt, Patrick, and Adam talk with Mike about how they got into rock music, the thought and creativity they put into their releases, the meaning behind both the music video symbolism and lyrics of their latest single "Who You Are," persevering through negativity, and more. This episode of March Forth with Mike Bauman also features "Who You Are" from Forever May Fall, available where you get your music! Follow Forever May Fall on Instagram @forevermayfall. In this Busted Open Podcast Exclusive, Dave LaGreca sits down in studio with one of his all-time icons Alice Cooper and connect on rock n' wrestling from a lifetime of touring, his new album, Nita Strauss as his former guitarist, and memories from Wrestlemania 3.
Always a thrill to talk to a legend like Alice Cooper! People always say don't meet you heroes. I can assure you that Alice break that rule. Great guy! I started by asking him about the return of guitarist Nita Strauss. He said there's always a "Revolving door policy" when it comes to members of his band. "I think she missed the excitement of an Alice Cooper show." He also spoke to working again with Kane Roberts. As far as the album "Road" is concerned, he said he really wanted to show off the band. He talked about the live sound of the record. "I want it to sound like a band." He mentioned that after "Detroit Stories", he said he thought his band deserved to be totally involved in the record. He told me about brining in outside musicians, like Tom Morello, Roger Glover and other's. He calls it a "Musical Fraternity". He said he still loves the road. "I'm a road rat." He went onto say "There's no retirement plan in me at all." According to Alice, the next record is almost done. As far as his favorite Detroit memories, he brought up baseball legend Al Kaline. He called him his hero. White Castle, Vernors and "Soupy" Sales were mentioned. He spoke to some of the classic music venues and more. "Detroit was the absolute capitol of Rock N' Roll." As for the signing at Rock City Music Company, he said he only signs records in Detroit. Up next, it's ex Saliva drummer Paul Crosby. He's in a band called Coldwards with two of his sons. The new single is called Bad News. He tells me about the process of writing songs with his kids, and more. He says they'll be dropping songs here and there, including a song about the late Saliva guitarist, Wayne Swinny. He did tell me about the passing of Wayne. He spoke to how underrated Wayne was, and what a guitar hero he was. He called him humble, said he'd give the shirt off his back to anyone. We talked a lot about Wayne, and some of the highlights of his time in Saliva. One of them included a couple WWE stints. Former Saliva singer, Josie Scott is out on tour as well. I asked Paul about that and if he'd ever play with him again. "If he ever asked me to play some shows, of course I would." He went onto say "I talk to him all the time....we're still best friends." Check out both interviews below..... -Meltdown-
