This is a special Riff Fest wrap-up. Before the bands took to the stage of Pine Knob, they spoke with me. I spoke with Sully from Godsmack, Cullen of Sleep Theory, Cody and Briton of Wage War, James and Sam from Asking Alexandria, and Dale from Seether. A huge thank you to each of the bands for talking with me and taking the time to meet with WRIF listeners beforehand. One of the great things about my job is that I get to share these experiences with people who otherwise wouldn't get the chance.
The Pine Knob season is nearing the end of its 2024 season, and the next to last weekend of the year will be a loud one. On Friday, September 27th, Korn, Spiritbox and Gojira play at 6:30 p.m.The next night, Saturday, September 28th, is the annual Riff Fest, which will feature Godsmack, Seether, Asking Alexandria and others. Jane's Addiction had to abandon the reunion tour of its original lineup because of turmoil within the band. Before all that came down, however, we spoke to drummer Stephen Perkins about the first Lollapalooza Festival during the summer of 1991, which was one of the most legendary shows in Pine Knob's 52 year history.

Caroline shares how she met Ian when they were classmates at Belmont. She eventually became Ian's manager and things progressed into more. She details how they kept their relationship secret until she got pregnant with their son, not even telling her closest friends until that point that they were together. We get to hear Caroline's background and she details her journey into the music industry. My guest this week is mixing and mastering engineer Nick Squids Squillante, who's recent immersive mixes include “Rescue Me” by Dirty Heads, which went to Number 1 on the Billboard Alternative charts, and “Psycho” by Asking Alexandria, which also scored a spot at Number 1 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock charts. He's also done other immersive mixes for artists such as Tommy Lee, Papa Roach and Bad Wolves to name a few. Nick began his career working at Electric Lady Studios with 7-time Grammy-award-winning mixer Michael Brauer. During his time at the studio, Nick worked on records for Bon Jovi, Frank Ocean, Mumford & Sons, and Elle King, to name a few. Since then, Nick has been working with both major label and independent artists, amassing millions of streams on Spotify, Apple Music, and other major platforms. As a result, Nick has worked on records that have charted in the top 10 on iTunes and even more recently was considered for Grammy nomination. During the interview we spoke about his biggest learning moment with the great Michael Brauer, his favorite plugins, how he got into immersive mixing, creating memorable moments in a mix, and much more. I spoke with Nick from his studio in Brooklyn. We had the pleasure of interviewing Asking Alexandria over Zoom video!Since 2008, Asking Alexandria, formed and based in the U.K., have paved a path of their own, distilling danger and excess into an equally dangerous hybrid of stadium rock ambition, metallic energy, and electronic ecstasy. Against all odds, they achieved unprecedented success earmarked by two gold-certified singles (namely, “Final Episode (Let's Change The Channel)” and “Not The American Average”), over a billion cumulative streams and views, and three consecutive top 10 debuts on the Billboard Top 200—Reckless & Relentless [2011], From Death to Destiny [2013], and The Black [2016]. In addition to headlining packed gigs on five continents, they destroyed stages alongside Guns N' Roses, Green Day, Avenged Sevenfold, Alice In Chains and Slipknot, to name a few.
