Brian and Richard are back for Episode 573 of the Chasing Tone Podcast - Is the current model for guitar gear demos completely broken? Blake has disappeared into an alternate reality for a week's vacation so Brian and Richard take the reins...you have been warned! Richard defied previous wisdom and paid for the stream for the Ozzy Osbourne retirement festival and he is very glad he did. Brian reminisces about the good ole' days and Richard has various half baked opinions about the music he witnessed. Richard got the creative urge to record some music and talks us through it and ponders about a particular feeling that he has identified. Brian reminisces about some of his early shopping experiences and goes misty eyed when Richard brings up a certain smell. Yes, you read that correctly. There is also a dubious smuggling tale. The question about guitar YouTubers and gear demos comes back up and the guys talk about how the landscape has changed for content creators. Brian offers some invaluable information and Richard is an idiot so business as normal. They do however both agree on future career choices. Nuno Bettencourt, Axl's Jazzy Sabbath, The whiff of tolex, Gen Z, Spicy AI Thirst traps...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone!We are on Patreon now too!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/chasingtonepodcast)Awesome Courses including the ULTIMATE MIDI COURSEhttps://www.guitarpedalcourse.com/Merch and DIY mods:https://www.wamplerdiy.com/Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/@chasingtonepodcastAwesome Course, Merch and DIY mods:https://www.guitarpedalcourse.com/https://www.wamplerdiy.com/Find us at:https://www.wamplerpedals.com/https://www.instagram.com/WamplerPedals/https://www.facebook.com/groups/wamplerfanpage/Contact us at: podcast@wamplerpedals.comSupport the show

I've known Jason Darby for over 45 years, and while we've long shared a deep bond through our love of family, golf & tennis, and music, I was still surprised by the depth of his knowledge when it comes to the guitar—and especially his passion for legendary players like Eddie Van Halen, Nuno Bettencourt, and Keith Richards, to name a few.Our conversation kicks off with a trip down memory lane, back to the late '70s on the Bay Hills Beach tennis courts, where a young Jason was my tennis “pupil.” From there, we fast forward to discussing what makes these guitar icons so extraordinary. Jason shares his insights into their unique styles and explains why he's spent so much time studying their technique and artistry in his personal pursuit of mastering the axe.  We also take time to talk about the greatest joys in his life: his wife of 25 years, Trish, and their three incredible kids — Kaleigh, Peyton, and Patrick. The Darby family's list of achievements is too long to cover in one episode, but I'd be remiss not to mention Trish's legendary run at St. Bonaventure, where she set all-time soccer scoring records and became the first (and only) female soccer player inducted into the university's Hall of Fame. Sorry, Trish—I had to brag a little. :)Join us, and let's see where the energy takes us!

After Rush ended, Alex Lifeson wasn't sure if he'd ever make music again. The Canadian guitarist had toured the world with his best friends from high school and changed rock music, so he felt like he had been there and done that. But when Alex heard a young singer named Maiah Wynne, he was transfixed by her voice and lyrics. That led him to form his new band, Envy of None. Alex sits down with Tom Power to talk about how that group came together, the early days of Rush, and how at 17 he decided he was destined for a life of rock and roll. If you enjoy this conversation, you might want to check out Tom's interview with Rush lead singer Geddy Lee or Extreme guitarist Nuno Bettencourt.

Greg found himself home in L.A. most of last week and decided to catch Extreme at The Bellwether. Living Colour opened the show. Tom Morello was in the crowd watching his childhood hero, Nuno Bettencourt. Mr. Bettencourt's remains unaffected by time. It's Tales From The Concert!Song: Extreme - “Get the Funk Out”Jay brings us two important remembrances. American sound and radio engineer Bill Heil, founder of Heil Sound, passed last week at the age of 83. Known for creating/inventing the modern rock sound system, Heil worked with legendary acts like The Grateful Dead & The Who, and invented the "Talk Box.” We also lost Brit Turner, drummer for Blackberry Smoke, last week at the age of 57. The Southern Country Rock band, founded in 2000, successfully combines blues, rock, and country with a jam-band worth ethic, amassing many loyal fans, including Jay.Songs:Zack Oakley - “Hypnagogic Shift“Blackberry Smoke - “Waiting for Thunder“Last week, Nick mentioned the success of Ye's latest collaborative album with Ty Dolla $ign and then read a NY Times piece this week about the success of disgraced artists. The piece thoughtfully discussed the pushback on pop-culture's cancellations and, to a lesser but present extent, the reality that it's always been this way. It's a rare dip into Sociology, but that's where we're end things this week!Song: Plantoid - “Wander/Wonder“
