Rachel Bolan sits down with Eddie Trunk at the Jersey Shore to dive into his debut solo album, Gargoyles of the Garden State. The two share stories about growing up in New Jersey, from winning records on the boardwalk to sneaking into bars underage. Rachel opens up about the creative process behind the album, working with producer Nick Raskulinecz, and featuring guests like Corey Taylor, Nuno Bettencourt, and Danko Jones. They also discuss the ongoing search for Skid Row's next singer, reflect on the band's 35-year legacy since Slave to the Grind, and touch on underappreciated albums like Thickskin. After that, Phil Collen from Def Leppard sits down with Eddie to reflect on what he considers two of the best shows in the band's 44-year career during their Vegas residency. Phil opens up about Joe Elliott's three-hour vocal warmups, the band's renewed chemistry, and why they're still getting better after all these years. The conversation shifts to Man Raze, Phil's power trio with Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook and Simon Laffy, as they release a comprehensive box set called Lock, Stock and Barrel. Phil also reveals he's been working with legendary producer Mutt Lange again on a Crossbone Skully track, discusses Delta Deep, and shares his thoughts on potentially playing the Sphere. From the legends like Billy Idol and The Cult to creating music with the Godfather of Heavy Metal himself, Ozzy Osbourne, this is the career of Billy Morrison. A couple of years ago Billy put out The Morrison Project featuring the song "Crack Cocaine." The song had Ozzy on vocals and it quickly shot to number one. Then, as part of a expanded edition Billy put out another song with Ozzy called "Gods Of Rock N' Roll" and it sounded like a song that would be a swan song, unforuntly it was. Now, Billy is back with a new song called "Becoming" with Sully Erna from Godsmack singing and Nuno Bettencourt from Extreme on guitar. It's part of a new solo project called Hallow due out later this year.
On this episode of Exclusively Van Halen, we dive into an incredible, nerve-wracking, and unforgettable moment in guitar history. Nuno Bettencourt shares the story of the day he finally came face-to-face with Eddie Van Halen in 1991—and everything changed. What do you even play when you're handed Eddie's guitar? According to Nuno… pure panic. Fresh off recording Pornograffitti, Nuno found himself at CenterStaging in Los Angeles when Eddie suddenly stopped rehearsal, walked straight up to him, and made it clear—he knew exactly who Nuno was… and had even read his interviews. Then came the moment: Eddie handed him his own rig. Nuno had spent years chasing that legendary tone, even using Van Halen I and II as his sonic blueprint. Now he was standing right there, hearing it live, feeling it, living it. The dream every guitarist has… suddenly real. And just when you think the story couldn't get more surreal—Eddie greets him in a way only Eddie could. This is one of those stories that reminds you just how powerful those moments can be when heroes become real—and the legend proves even bigger in person. #VanHalen #EddieVanHalen #NunoBettencourt #GuitarLegends

Virtuoso guitarist Nuno Bettencourt of Extreme stepped out on his own for the 1997 solo debut Schizophonic to explore a more diverse sonic landscape. Blending alt-rock, power pop, and electronic influences, the album showcases Bettencourt's strong sense of melody and knack for songwriting. Tracks like “Gravity” and “Swollen Princess” highlight his ability to fuse inventive guitar riffs with catchy hooks, with production that leans toward the dense, experimental textures of late-'90s rock. Having flown under the radar, Schizophonic stands as an underrated and inventive record that captures an artist unafraid to reinvent himself, a fascinating glimpse of what happens when a guitar hero eschews showmanship for songwriting. I've known Jason Darby for over 45 years, and while we've long shared a deep bond through our love of family, golf & tennis, and music, I was still surprised by the depth of his knowledge when it comes to the guitar—and especially his passion for legendary players like Eddie Van Halen, Nuno Bettencourt, and Keith Richards, to name a few.Our conversation kicks off with a trip down memory lane, back to the late '70s on the Bay Hills Beach tennis courts, where a young Jason was my tennis “pupil.” From there, we fast forward to discussing what makes these guitar icons so extraordinary. Jason shares his insights into their unique styles and explains why he's spent so much time studying their technique and artistry in his personal pursuit of mastering the axe. We also take time to talk about the greatest joys in his life: his wife of 25 years, Trish, and their three incredible kids — Kaleigh, Peyton, and Patrick. The Darby family's list of achievements is too long to cover in one episode, but I'd be remiss not to mention Trish's legendary run at St. Bonaventure, where she set all-time soccer scoring records and became the first (and only) female soccer player inducted into the university's Hall of Fame. Sorry, Trish—I had to brag a little. :)Join us, and let's see where the energy takes us!
After Rush ended, Alex Lifeson wasn't sure if he'd ever make music again. The Canadian guitarist had toured the world with his best friends from high school and changed rock music, so he felt like he had been there and done that. But when Alex heard a young singer named Maiah Wynne, he was transfixed by her voice and lyrics. That led him to form his new band, Envy of None. Alex sits down with Tom Power to talk about how that group came together, the early days of Rush, and how at 17 he decided he was destined for a life of rock and roll. If you enjoy this conversation, you might want to check out Tom's interview with Rush lead singer Geddy Lee or Extreme guitarist Nuno Bettencourt.
