S18 E16 - Preparing for Pentecost

Abiding Together

In this episode, we reflect on how Pentecost is more than just an event of the past, but can be an ongoing outpouring of God's love and grace in our lives today. We discuss how the Holy Spirit helps heal our wounds, restores communion with God, and teaches us how to live with power and boldness, even in the places where we feel unable to love the Lord. As we prepare our hearts for Pentecost, we talk practically about cultivating a posture of receptivity, learning to invite the Holy Spirit more deeply into our hearts, and how to allow His fire to illuminate our identity and transform us from within. The Holy Spirit is alive within us, able to enter even the locked places of our hearts, and desires to help us bear much fruit in our lives.   Heather's One Thing - Pentecost | Holy Spirit Rest on Us Playlist Heather's Other One Thing - Wild Goose Series with Fr. Dave Pivonka Sister Miriam's One Thing - The Discerning Hearts Podcast App Michelle's One Thing - College Graduations   Other Resources Mentioned: Be Transformed Book Study   Journal Questions: How can I make myself more open to encounter the Holy Spirit pirit this Pentecost? Where in my life do I feel powerless? Am I allowing the Holy Spirit to make me more like Jesus? How am I rationing the boldness of the Holy Spirit? Where do I need to unlock the doors of my heart?   Discussion Questions: How can you welcome the Holy Spirit into your life in a deeper way?  What does it look like to experience the Holy Spirit in community? What gifts of the Holy Spirit do you desire to empower your work of building the Kingdom of God? How will you celebrate Pentecost?   Quotes to Ponder: "If there be among the gifts of God none greater than love, and there is no greater gift of God than the Holy Spirit, what follows more naturally than that He is Himself love…." (Saint Augustine)   "This great mystical tradition . . . shows how prayer can progress, as a genuine dialogue of love, to the point of rendering the person wholly possessed by the divine Beloved, vibrating at the Spirit's touch, resting filially within the Father's heart." (Pope Saint John Paul II, Novo Millennio Ineunte, Paragraph 33)   "A noble and delicate soul ... follows faithfully the faintest breath of the Holy Spirit; it rejoices in this Spiritual Guest and holds onto Him like a child to its mother." (The Diary of St. Faustina, Entry 148) Scripture for Lectio: "On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit." Then they gathered around him and asked him, "Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?" He said to them: "It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight." (Acts 1:4-9)   Sponsor - Mary's Meals: Every mother knows what it's like to want to protect their child and provide for them, to make sure there's food on the table, to make sure her child is safe, cared for, and able to grow into who God created them to be. But for millions of mothers around the world, hunger stands in the way of that hope. Their children walk to school carrying empty bowls, wondering if today they'll have anything to eat. And that's where Mary's Meals steps in. Mary's Meals provides one daily meal in a place of education for children living in some of the world's poorest communities. And that simple meal becomes the reason a child comes to school. Once they're there, everything can begin to change. Education can become a pathway out of poverty.  So a child who is hungry can focus.  A child who is vulnerable can dream.  And a mother who felt helpless can begin to hope again.  What we love most about Mary's Meals is how ordinary people get to become a part of that story. We don't have to solve global hunger. We simply have to feed one child. And here's the beautiful thing. It only costs $25.20 to feed a child for an entire school year.  That's one child sitting in a classroom instead of sitting at home hungry. One mother experiencing relief instead of worry.  One life changed through a simple act of love. So if your hearts are moved to help, we invite you to join us in supporting Mary's Meals. You can head over to their website marysmealsusa.org (or marysmeals.ca for Canada) and together we can offer hope, dignity and a daily meal to a child who needs it most.    Timestamps: 00:00 Mary's Meals 01:39 Introduction 02:26 Welcome 03:24 Scripture Verse and Quote to Ponder 04:39 Preparing Our Hearts 07:34 Healing the Wound of Powerlessness  09:26 The Holy Spirit Enables Us to Love 11:04 Inviting the Holy Spirit into Our Hearts 12:50 Our Advocate and the Forgiveness of Sins 15:10 "It is Better that I Go" 17:14 Baptized with Fire 19:15 Bearing Fruit in Our Lives 20:57 When We Restrict the Holy Spirit 22:50 Receiving the Holy Spirit within Community 28:08 Being Inspired by the Holy Spirit 31:04 One Things

Get the notes!Stop Living a Lie: A Deep Dive into 1 John 2:1-6Are you tired of “surface-level” Christianity that emphasizes spiritual feelings but ignores moral character? In this essential teaching from the Let's Talk Scripture series, we explore the Apostle John's direct challenge to the early church—and to us today.John's message is clear: If you claim to know Jesus Christ but live a lifestyle of habitual, unrepentant sin, you are living a lie.The Heart of the Message: Practical HolinessThis study tackles the dangerous “Gnostic” idea that our spiritual life has nothing to do with our physical actions. John corrects this by providing the ultimate litmus test of salvation:Our Advocate and Propitiation: We learn that when we stumble, we have a “Paraclete”—an Advocate—in Jesus Christ. He is our hilasmós, the one who satisfied and exhausted the righteous wrath of God against sin on our behalf. The Evidence of Knowing Him: Knowing God isn't about secret intellectual knowledge; it is evidenced by keeping His commandments. Obedience is the “strong identification” that you have truly been saved.Walking as He Walked: To “abide” in Christ means our daily walk must reflect His righteousness. Our private lives must match our public worship.Introducing the “Stop Living a Lie!” Study PackageTo help pastors, teachers, and biblical students master this profound passage, we have developed a Complete Publication-Style Study Bundle. This package is meticulously formatted for easy use in Microsoft Word and is designed for a Christian audience seeking deep, theological growth. What's Included in the Digital Bundle:Comprehensive Teacher's Guide (): Detailed pedagogical objectives, Greek word studies (Paraclete, Hilasmós, Teleioō), and instructional strategies.Student Study Guide (): Structured notes, scriptural analysis, and personal application questions to drive the lesson home.Publication-Style Outline: A professional, lettered/numbered outline featuring hyperlinked time markers to the video teaching for quick reference.Formal 10-Question Quiz (): A non-interactive assessment to verify comprehension of key theological concepts.Answer & Explanation Sheet (): A deep-dive answer key that explains the “why” behind every answer using the original Greek context.Master the Word of God TodayWhether you are leading a small group or deepening your personal study, this package provides the tools to move from theory to practical holiness. What do you know about the Freemasons? Many might recognize it as one of the oldest and largest secret societies in the world with millions of members. On the surface, it's an innocent brotherhood that forges connections and gives back to the community. What many don't realize is that this secrecy and deception conceals how their oaths of death and ideologies can bind you to something unknown and against God. In this episode of the Revelations Podcast, Amy from Eyes on the Right sheds light on secret societies, the oaths and rituals used in Freemasonry and the ideologies they follow. We also talk about the power of words and how these vows can bind us to evil instead of God. Most important of all, we dive into how we can break free from these bindings, renounce evil, and find freedom through our One True God.Join us in our journey as we try to understand and become aware of how the enemy works through secret societies, oaths, and bindings. Here are three reasons why you should listen to this episode:Learn more about secret societies, Freemasons, and how they can deceive you.Understand the impact of your actions and words on who you dedicate your mind, body, and soul to.Find out how you can seek forgiveness and freedom with God's guidance.ResourcesMore from the Revelations Podcast: Website | Instagram | Apple PodcastHidden in Plain Sight: How Satan Manipulates Society Through Occult Symbolism (Ft. Through prayer, they were able to cut these strings attached to her.More and more people are starting to understand Freemasonry. It is important to understand it, research your lineage, and seek it out with the Holy Spirit and your family.Freemasonry is one of the oldest and largest worldwide secret societies requiring vows and oaths to keep their secrets and supposedly has at least 3 million members. It is a brotherhood for men and presents itself as a resource, a way to connect, or a place to belong. It attracts people because it is a way to get power, fame, and fortune as they move up the brotherhood. Many people believe that the Masons are a resurrected society of the Knights Templar.[10:59] Understanding the Ideologies in FreemasonryThere are two paths to Freemasonry, the Scottish Rite and the York Rite. Additionally, there are three initial levels to move up through before choosing their path. Each level involves a vow and ritual. However, what many don't understand is that these are binding you to an evil spirit that is not of the Lord. [14:47] Amy: “When you realize that your words have power and there's something that you're covenanting to, that you're yoking to by invoking this, that is where it gets really powerful and really spiritual really quick,” Amy says these vows and oaths are deceptive, violent, and gruesome. They are not just connected to the physical realm but also to the spiritual realm, bringing illness. There are many other offshoot masonic organizations. For example, the Shriners are the Islamic expression of Freemasonry[18:30] Recognizing Symbolism in FreemasonryThe Freemason symbol is two compasses, one pointing up and the other down, with a big “G” in the middle. At its core, these symbols present the duality of the feminine and masculine while the “G” in the center is the idea of a generative organ and is about fertility. The Shriners and the Fez tie into ancient Egyptian religions. The four books that the Masons study, the Qur'an, Torah, Vedas, and the Bible blend the different religions. Many people join and participate because they don't see deeper into the deception. Others are pursuing the fame, power, prestige, and connections the society brings.Part of the deception is worshiping whatever god they want. They do not see Jesus as the one true God.[25:15] Masonic Symbolism All Around UsMany celebrities, historical figures, and popular people were Freemasons. The secret society is deeply a part of America's history. The masonic symbols are like a calling card or signature that tells others that the Freemasons are involved. The number 33 is also symbolic. It represents the 33 vertebrae in the body and symbolizes enlightenment or ascending from the dark into the light. Many areas of the world are more aware of this secret society and its spiritual warfare. It is time for us, Western Christians to look at it with a bigger lens.If you're not sure, look at the manual and the oaths and vows that they take. Bring Jesus into the conversation and do your research. Above all, ask the Holy Spirit to guide you and reveal the truth.[32:57] Jesus, Our Advocate for FreedomReagan shares how she met a girl in Haiti who had received Christ but was dedicated to Satan as a baby. She was chained to this oath and it took a lot of people and prayer to break her chains. It's important to understand that there are consequences to your actions and what you invoke. However, Jesus is our advocate. He heals and sanctifies us so that we can be free.[35:40] Amy: “If we can really get people to understand your self-will and your choices and what you choose to do and open the door to. You will reap the consequences of that. But Jesus is so good to heal us and sanctify us and pull up those hidden little things for us to address so we can truly be progressively sanctified, delivered, set free.” Some Christians wrongly think that once they believe, they are free. However, it's still up to you to lock out evil and decide that Jesus and His salvation are what you want.[38:27] Purging the Enemy's Stronghold in YouSometimes, we give the devil access to our lives through our actions and choices. To start, ask the Lord to reveal these openings including a history of Freemasonry. Pray to the Holy Spirit, talk to your family, and look around the house. God will reveal it.Make a spiritual inventory. List potential strongholds to help you go through and realize what access was given to the devil. This allows you to be intentional in prayer.Look for patterns in your family such as disease, divorce, or more. Pray and ask what other patterns there are and write them down. There is a connection between the mind, body, and soul. Physical illness can potentially be rooted in the spiritual. There are consequences from your words and actions, and your vows and oaths. Listen to the full episode and learn more about how you can break these chains and dedicate yourself and your children to God.[46:34] Freedom Through Faith and Dedication to GodAmy was also in a sorority where she made many oaths and vows. However, she renounced them by going through a time of deep prayer. The first step is knowing what making these oaths means to God. As humans, we may see it as harmless, but God may see it as dedicating yourself to a pagan god.Recognize that you have sinned and ask for forgiveness. In your prayer, as for consecration and for God to free you. Be sincere and pray from your heart.God is there waiting to talk to you and forgive you. However, this is a continuing journey. Once you start, keep praying for forgiveness and consecration.Look at your perspective. Do you want Jesus or deliverance? We need to want God more than relief. Just be faithful and in His time and way, He will bring relief to you. [52:15] Amy: Sometimes, I feel individually as people, as Christians, we just want relief from our circumstances and God's like no, you got to want Me more than your relief. We got to understand that it's in his timing, in his way, and he will do it. You just have to be faithful and do your part and partner with the Holy Spirit.”[53:52] How Parents Can Break Generational CursesGenerational curses are real. They can be rooted in Freemasonry, sickness, and more. We have also inherited sin and curses from Adam and Eve.Understand that as parents, we have to deal with sin. It can stop with us so it doesn't get passed down to our children. There can be healing that can come from the parent addressing the root of the issue.Realize that walking apart from the spirit and choosing the flesh comes at a great cost. As Christians, we need to not only believe but give everything to God.[57:41] Overwhelmed? Let God Open Your EyesMany churches have already taken ties to Masonry seriously. Many resources and ministries are also educating people about this topic.Keep your eyes open and be aware of what our kids also see. Celebrities and artists our kids watch may be displaying these symbols.Be teachable and humble. Rather than dismissing this immediately, ask yourself why you're getting triggered. God may be trying to show you something. This can be overwhelming. Take your time in this journey and in God's time and His way, He will show you the truth.About Amy From Eyes on the Right.Amy is an educator, counselor, speaker, and Bible teacher who helps others deepen their understanding of the Scripture. [Comment: Mary, Help of Christians] Friends of the Rosary: Today, May 24, we celebrate an important Solemnity: Mary Help of Christians, María Auxiliadora, in Spanish. This feast is also observed as the Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church. The Mother of God always has responded by helping Christians throughout the centuries. She has come to the aid of individuals, families, communities, towns, and nations. As we say every day on the Memorare prayer, anyone who has implored Mary's help has been assisted. The Queen of the Universe can easily do all of this, and much more. If the world knew about the Our Advocate in Heaven, will be paralyzed by joy. In addition to proving her maternal help, the Most Holy Virgin Mary has appeared in many places throughout the world, including in Guadalupe, Lourdes, and Fatima. She has brought help to her children while asking for truly Christian life. In Fatima and other supernatural apparitions, She stressed that we must pray daily the Holy Rosary. Ave Maria! Pentecost Sunday is this coming weekend, and marks the celebration of the Holy Spirit’s coming with power, signs, and wonders fifty days after the resurrection of Jesus Christ.  Jesus had told His disciples that He would send Another Advocate, Intercessor, Consoler, Comforter, Helper – One who would be with them forever – and when He came, EVERYONE knew it! He came BOLDLY, with a GREAT COMMOTION, and EVIDENCES that no one could deny! The same Spirit and the same power that had raised Christ Jesus from the dead, now came to LIVE in them! When the Holy Spirit moved in, their lives changed immediately – and supernaturally. As we reflect on Pentecost this weekend, let’s reflect on this truth from Romans 8:11, as it applies to us, “The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you.” … think about that!  The same Holy Spirit that came in BOLDLY like a MIGHTY, ROARING WIND at that first Pentecost, now LIVES IN US! If we have received Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, then our lives should be overflowing with EVIDENCES that He lives in us!  The very SAME Advocate, Intercessor, Consoler, Comforter, Helper who was sent to THEM – has been sent to US! As we reflect on this truth, let’s ask ourselves the same question that Francis Schaeffer asked in the title of one of his books, “How Then Should We Live?” Let's pray. Holy Spirit, thank you for coming to be OUR Advocate, Intercessor, Consoler, Comforter, and Helper … One who is with US forever. Thank you for Your work in our life. Thank you for enabling us to live this life praying, sharing, and caring the way that YOU do. Thank You that You show Yourself BOLDLY, with a GREAT COMMOTION, and EVIDENCES in our lives that no one can deny. Pour out through us MORE! Love through us MORE! Live through us MORE! We ask this in all the mighty and powerful name of the Jesus Christ – Amen!

1 John 1:5-2:6 One of the three tests that confirms our salvation is our obedience to God’s commands, yet no one is able to be perfectly obedient. Pastor Doug Link explores the amazing gift given to believers, a righteous advocate that gives us hope regarding our ability to avoid sinning and cleanses us when we do sin. The song mentioned at the opening of the sermon: The post Our Advocate, Jesus Christ the Righteous appeared first on Grace Church of Tallahassee.

This week's message covered the next section in Jesus' sermon on the mission. In these instructions to Jesus' disciples he provides 4 reasons why they should not be afraid: 1) Because truth will triumph; 2) Because death is defeated; 3) Because God is sovereign and knows our sufferings; and 4) Because Jesus is Our Advocate. Hebrews 7:18-28 - Our Advocate (6/17/18) by Spring Meadows Presbyterian Church

July 29 He Routs Our Enemy He hath cast out thine enemy. (Zephaniah 3:15)  What a casting out was that! Satan has lost his throne in our nature even as he lost his seat in heaven. Our Lord Jesus has destroyed the enemy's reigning power over us. He may worry us, but he cannot claim us as his own. His bonds are no longer upon our spirits: the Son has made us free, and we are free indeed. Still is the archenemy the accuser of the brethren; but even from this position our Lord has driven him. Our Advocate silences our accuser. The Lord rebukes our enemies and pleads the causes of our soul, so that no harm comes of all the devil's revilings. As a tempter, the evil spirit still assails us and insinuates himself into our minds; but thence also is he cast out as to his former preeminence. He wriggles about like a serpent, but he cannot rule like a sovereign. He hurls in blasphemous thoughts when he has opportunity; but what a relief it is when he is told to be quiet and is made to slink off like a whipped cur! Lord, do this for any who are at this time worried and wearied by his barkings. Cast out their enemy, and be Thou glorious in their eyes. Thou hast cast him down; Lord, cast him out. Oh, that Thou wouldst banish him from the world!
