Astrologers consult the Panchāngam to set auspicious dates for weddings, corporate mergers, and other activities as per their religion.The casting of a Panchāngam involves elaborate mathematical work involving high level of spherical geometry and sound understanding of astronomical phenomena, such as sidereal movements of heavenly bodies. However, in practice the tabulation is done on the basis of short-cut formulations as propounded by ancient Vedic sages and scholars.A typical Panchāngam state tabulations of positions of Sun, Moon, and other planets for every day of the year on a fixed place (longitude, latitude) and time of day (in 24-hour format IST). The users calculate the remaining data using their relative difference from this fixed place and time.There are several panchāngas that contain information for more than one year. Panch Mahaguru Bhakti पञ्च महागुरु भक्ति ★ श्रीमदमरेन्द्र मुकुट प्रघटित मणि किरणवारिधाराभिः । प्रक्षालित-पद-युगलान् प्रणमामि जिनेश्वरान् भक्त्या ॥१॥ शोभा सम्पन्न - अमरेन्द्र के मुकुटों में लगी मणियों की किरणरूपी जलधारा से जिनके चरण युगल धुले हैं ऐसे जिनेश्वर को भक्ति से मैं प्रणाम करता हूँ। अष्टगुणैः समुपेतान् प्रणष्ट-दुष्टाष्टकर्म-रिपुसमितीन् । सिद्धान् सतत-मनन्तान् नमस्करोमीष्ट-तुष्टि संसिद्ध्यै ॥२॥ आठ गुणों से युक्त दुष्ट- अष्ट कर्म-शत्रु के समूह को नष्ट किया है जिन्होंने ऐसे अनन्त सिद्धों को सन्तोष की सिद्धि के लिए सदैव नमस्कार करता हूँ। साचार- श्रुत- जलधीन् प्रतीर्य शुद्धोरुचरण-निरतानाम् । आचार्याणां पदयुग कमलानि दधे शिरसि मेऽहम् ॥३॥ आचार सहित श्रुत सागर को तैरकर शुद्ध, महान चारित्र में निरत चरण युगलकमल को अपने शिर पर मैं धारण करता हूँ। मिथ्यावादि मद्रोग्र ध्वान्त-प्रध्वंसि वचन - संदर्भान् । उपदेशकान् प्रपद्ये मम दुरितारि - प्रणाशाय ॥४॥ मिथ्यावादियों के गर्वरूपी उग्र अन्धकार के नाशक वचनों के सन्दर्भ वाले उपदेशकों को मैं अपने पाप शत्रु का नाश करने के लिए प्राप्त होता हूँ। सम्यग्दर्शन दीप प्रकाशका मेय-बोध-सम्भूताः । भूरि-चरित्र पताकास् ते साधु-गणास्तु मां पान्तु ॥५ ॥ जो सम्यग्दर्शनरूपी दीपक को प्रकाशित करते हैं, जो व्यापक ज्ञान से सम्पन्न हैं जो उत्कृष्ट चारित्र की ध्वजा हैं, वह साधुगण ही मेरी रक्षा करें। जिनसिद्ध-सूरिदेशक साधु-वरानमल-गुण- गणोपेतान् । पञ्चनमस्कारपदैस् त्रिसन्ध्यमभिनौमि मोक्षलाभाय ॥६॥ निर्मल गुण-गण से युक्त जिन, सिद्ध, आचार्य, उपाध्याय और उत्कृष्ट साधुओं को मोक्ष की प्राप्ति के लिए पञ्च नमस्कार पदों के द्वारा तीनों संध्याओं में नमस्कार करता हूँ । एष पञ्चनमस्कारः सर्व पापप्रणाशनः । मङ्गलानां च सर्वेषां प्रथमं मङ्गलं मतम् ॥७॥ यह पञ्च नमस्कार सभी पापों का नाशक और सभी मंगलों में पहला मंगल माना है। अर्हत्सिद्धाचार्योपाध्यायाः सर्वसाधवः । कुर्वन्तु मङ्गलाः सर्वे निर्वाण- परमश्रियम् ॥८ ॥ अर्हन्त, सिद्ध, आचार्य, उपाध्याय और समस्त साधु मंगल रूप हैं यह सभी निर्वाणरूपी उत्कृष्ट लक्ष्मी को करें। सर्वांन्- जिनेन्द्र-चन्द्रान् सिद्धानाचार्य पाठकान् साधून् । रत्नत्रयं च वन्दे रत्नत्रय - सिद्धये भक्त्या ॥९॥ सभी जिनेन्द्र चन्द्रों को सिद्ध को आचार्य, उपाध्यायों को और साधुओं को तथा रत्नत्रय को रत्नत्रय की सिद्धि के लिए भक्ति से नमस्कार करता हूँ । पान्तु श्रीपाद पद्मानि पञ्चानां परमेष्ठिनाम्। लालितानि सुराधीश चूड़ामणि मरीचिभिः ॥१०॥ इन्द्र के चूड़ामणि की किरणों से सेवित पाँचों परमेष्ठियों के श्री चरण कमल रक्षा करें। प्रातिहार्यैर्जिनान् सिद्धान् गुणैः सिद्धान् गुणैः सूरीन् स्वमातृभिः । पाठकान् विनयैः साधून् योगाङ्गैरष्टभिः स्तुवे ॥११॥ जिनेन्द्र भगवान् की प्रतिहार्यों से सिद्धों की गुणों से आचार्यों को अपनी मातृकाओं से उपाध्यायों को विनय से साधुओं को आठ योगों से स्तुति करता हूँ। अञ्चलिका अर्थ- हे भगवन्! मैंने पंच महागुरु भक्ति का कायोत्सर्ग किया है, उसकी मैं आलोचना करने की इच्छा करता हूँ। अष्ट-महा प्रातिहार्यों से युक्त अरहन्त, अष्ट गुणों से सम्पन्न तथा ऊर्ध्व लोक के मस्तक पर प्रतिष्ठित सिद्ध, अष्ट प्रवचन मातृकाओं से युक्त आचार्य, आचारांग आदि श्रुत ज्ञान का उपदेश देने वाले उपाध्याय और रत्नत्रय गुणों के पालन में रत सभी साधू परमेष्ठी की मैं सदा अर्चना करता हूँ, पूजा करता हूँ, वंदना करता हूँ, नमस्कार करता हूँ, मेरे दुःखों का क्षय हो, कर्मों का क्षय हो, बोधिलाभ हो, सुगति में गमन हो, समाधि मरण हो और मुझे जिनेन्द्र भगवान् के गुणों की प्राप्ति होवे।

On the auspicious occasion of the ninth day (Navami) of Ashwin Navaratri 2022 I have attempted this energizing ancient Sanskrit hymn to the Devi in her form as Vindhyeshwari or Vindhyavaasini: she who resides in the mountains of Vindhyachal. Vindhyeshwari is a very old form of the Goddess refered to in the Mahabharat and various Puranas. She is also called Vanadevi or the Goddess of the forests. According to one narrative, the primal human Manu prayed to Vindhyeshwari and was granted the boon of having progeny. The Puranas also recount that Devi forecast that she would reside in Vindhyachal and when the demons Shumbh and Nishumbh create misery on earth, she would slay them in Vindhyachal. The sacred temple of Vindhyeshwari near Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh is a renowned Shaktipeeth where the Goddess is believed to be present in her complete form. Vindhyeshwari is a brave, aggressive but benevolent Goddess. The Vindhyeshwari Stotram is composed in the Panch-chaamar meter which is a lively meter indicating her bravery. My small attempt is inspired by the masterly rendition by Pandit Chhannulal Mishra ji of Banaras.
