The dead don't usually testify at their own murder trials, but in the smoke-stained alleys of Chicago, I learned that some victims refuse to let their killers walk free — even from beyond the grave.Watch the VIDEO VERSION of this episode: https://weirddarkness.com/noir-selfsolvingmurderTHE TRUE CRIME CASE THIS STORY IS BASED ON: In 1977, Teresita Basa, a 48-year-old respiratory therapist in Chicago, was found murdered in her burned-out apartment. Months later, police received a bizarre tip from a man claiming his wife, Remy Chua — who had briefly worked with Basa — was channeling messages from Basa's ghost during trances. According to the spirit, she had been murdered by a coworker named Allan Showery, who then staged the scene and stole her jewelry. Investigators followed the supernatural lead and discovered many details matched real evidence. Showery's girlfriend even confirmed he had given her Basa's jewelry. Confronted with mounting proof, Showery confessed to the crime. Despite the strange nature of the case, Teresita Basa became known as “the woman who solved her own murder from beyond the grave.ORIGINAL CASE SOURCES…https://www.ranker.com/list/teresita-basa-case/patrick-thorntonMusic provided by Alibi Music Library= = = = ="I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness." — John 12:46= = = = =WeirdDarkness® is a registered trademark. "I think we're so geared on the next step - what do I have to do next, I need to complete this before I get to the next step, then this will make me happy. I think we're constantly doing that to ourselves and we don't even know what happy means or what we wanted. My husband and I sat down, we were at Red Robins getting french firies and burgers, and we looked at each other and were like 'Is this what we worked our whole lives to be? This is not great. This is not that fun'."This episode is with Dr. Nicole Basa who is a private practice general and bariatric surgeon in Austin , Texas. In this episode we talk about:- Female mentorship in surgery (spoiler alert, it wasn't always positive)- How she thought about having a child in surgical residency vs not- Getting pregnant with her first child while she was in the thick of starting a private surgical practice with her husband- Starting a private practice with her husband and what it's like working with your husband- The logistics of owning a practice with your spouse when you have to deal with the unpredictability of childcare (daycare illnesses...)- and so much more!
