In July 2023, Miami mother Jasmine Paez logged onto rentahitman.com to solicit the murder of her three-year-old son. After providing photos and specific deadlines, she believed she was hiring a professional killer, but the site was actually a parody. Seasoned criminal defense attorney and former prosecutor Amelia Ravelo joins to explain how, despite having an airtight case for solicitation of murder, Paez avoided jail time. Hugo sits down with longtime friend and digital artist Rey Paez for a raw, real conversation about what it means to keep creating when the world feels like it's working against you.Rey opens up about a tough year — slow commissions, quiet events, and the economic pressure that makes every artist ask "is this still worth it?" — and why he keeps picking up the pencil anyway. They go deep on AI: Rey's honest fears about a future where creativity gets replaced, and Hugo's perspective as someone who uses AI as a tool to move faster without losing his voice. Together, they explore what makes human art irreplaceable, the value of personality-driven branding, and why the next chapter for creatives might be less about the work itself and more about who you are. This one's for every creative who's ever felt defeated and came back anyway.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sol-meets-heart--3691166/support.

Welcome to the Always Bayern Chelsea show. Football season is well underway now and the 120th episode is a complete recap of the summer 2025 transfer window. Danny and Jim break down the incomings, outgoings, and more as well as rate the entire window for both Chelsea Football Club and Bayern Munich. Buckle up because this was one of the most crazy windows in recent memory. And don't worry YES we will be streaming the Champions League match between Bayern Munich and Chelsea. As always Chelsea did A LOT of business. Key incomings for Enzo Maresca included. Jamie Gittens, Alejandro Garnacho, Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Estevao, Buonanotte, Dario Essugo, Andrey Santos, Jorrel Hato, Paez, Penders, and Sarr. Outgoings were Nico Jackson, Broja, Felix, Madueke, Christo, Ugochukwu, Mathis Amougou. Carney, KDH, Matos, Chilwell, Gilchrist, Humphreys, Veiga, Beach, Bergstrom, Bettinelli, Kepa, and Petrovic while players loaned out including partner club Strasburg were Paez, Penders, Sarr, Anselmino, Castledine, Kellyman, Samuels-Smith, Wiley, and Nicolas Jackson to Bayern Munich of course. Chelsea netted about 5 million euros in profit this window. Pretty impressive business. Bayern Munich's transfer window was less desirable. The club notably struck out on their main transfer target dating back many years Florian Wirtz, other key misses were Nico Williams, Bradley Barcola, and sadly many more. The lack of alignment between the supervisory board, sporting board, and even coaching staff made this a difficult window for Vincent Kompany and the Bavarians. Luckily there were some key incomings including Diaz, Tah, and Bischof. With Nicolas Jackson joining on loan from Chelsea. Sadly Bayern Munich lost key players who are already missed by the club, some of which left on a free transfer including Sane, Dier, and Thomas Muller. Other outgoings were Tel, Coman, Wanner, Aznou, Kratzig, and Vidovic. Players that left on loan were Palhinha, Kusi-Asare, Zaragoza, Peretz, Ibrahimovic, Zvonarek, and Buchmann. It's yet to be seen if this window will improve the squad for the long run but Bayern did net roughly 10 millions euros in addition to massive savings in the wage depart. The football season is just getting started so be sure to subscribe to the Always Bayern Chelsea YouTube channel to stay up to date with all of the upcoming videos, coverage, and news. BONUS: The End of Product Management? Three Experts Reveal the Unstoppable Rise of Product Engineers With Anton Zaides, Rafa Paez, and Max Piechota In this BONUS episode, we explore the emerging concept of the Product Engineer with three experts in the field: Anton Zaides, Rafa Paez, and Max Piechota. Together, they discuss how software engineers are evolving beyond just technical skills to embrace product thinking, business understanding, and customer empathy. This shift represents a move toward what they call "M-skilled" professionals who combine technical expertise with product sensibility to create greater impact. The Evolution of Software Engineering "The role of the software engineer is evolving to a product engineer...they understand what to build and why they are building it." Rafa Paez kicks off the conversation by sharing insights from his article on Substack, titled "The Rise of the 100x Product Engineer." He explains how the modern software engineer is taking on greater ownership of their work, focusing not just on writing code but understanding the underlying business reasons for features. This new breed of engineers thinks critically about product metrics, challenges assumptions, and takes extreme ownership of outcomes rather than just outputs. Breaking Product Management "Engineers don't really care about what they work on...but what if they did?" Anton Zaides discusses his provocative Substack article "Product Management is broken, a change is coming," where he challenges the traditional separation between engineers and product decisions. He describes the phenomenon of the "ZOOM-based product manager" who remains disconnected from both users and engineers, and contrasts this with engineers who genuinely care about the products they build. Anton argues that when engineers are invested in the product outcomes, the entire development process improves. For a podcast episode with Anton Zaides about the Product Management is broken article, listen to this Scrum Master Toolbox Podcast episode. Measuring What Matters "We need to measure the product outcome, the customer value and incentivize developers based on that." Max Piechota shares how his journey toward product engineering began through conversations with his CEO about measuring software engineer performance. His research led him to realize that traditional engineering metrics often miss what truly matters - the value delivered to customers. Max advocates for aligning developer incentives with product outcomes rather than just code output, representing a fundamental shift in how we evaluate technical contributions. Catalyzing the Transformation "What helped me change was working with those people that wanted to create products." The conversation turns to practical ways to foster this evolution toward product engineering: Max describes how exposure to product-oriented colleagues and learning about the Lean Startup methodology transformed his perspective as a developer. Anton outlines a three-step approach: helping engineers see metrics and user interactions, building business literacy, and connecting more deeply with the domain. The group discusses the importance of helping engineers understand concepts like gross margin and the AARRR framework (Acquisition, Activation, Retention, Revenue, Referral). Beyond Solutions to Problems "Often we only focus on the solution, without understanding the actual problem we are trying to solve." One crucial insight from the conversation is the need for engineers to take a step back from solution mode and better understand the underlying problems. The panel shares practical tips: Clarify how the business works and identify opportunities for improvement Be thoughtful about how developers are incentivized Connect technical decisions to financial outcomes Focus on landing page conversion and other customer-facing metrics when they're the bottleneck to growth This mindset shift enables engineers to make more strategic decisions about where to invest their technical efforts for maximum impact. About Anton Zaides, Rafa Páez, Max Piechota Anton Zaides is the founder of Manager.dev, where he shares insights about engineering management and product development. With extensive experience in both engineering and product leadership roles, Anton is passionate about bridging the gap between technical execution and product vision. You can link with Anton Zaides on Substack. For inquiries, reach him at Anton@manager.dev. Rafa Paez is a product engineering advocate who wrote the influential article "The Rise of the 100x Product Engineer." Through his work, Rafa explores how engineers can expand their impact by embracing product thinking and business understanding alongside technical skills. You can link with Rafa Paez on Substack. Find more of his work at rafapaez.com. Max Piechota is a thought leader in the engineering productivity space who has researched effective ways to measure and improve developer performance. He advocates for outcome-based metrics that focus on customer value rather than code output. You can link with Max Piechota on Substack.

"This is direct action. This is mutual aid. And doing it with people all over the world." - Margot on using #Bitcoin for aid without bordersMy guest today is Margot Paez. Margot is a climate change physicist, Bitcoin mining researcher, and Fellow at the Bitcoin Policy Institute. She is one of my favorite guests to have on to discuss politics, social movements, all things bitcoin mining, and beyond. We discuss how Bitcoin can serve human rights causes and humanitarian efforts globally and talk about using Bitcoin to provide direct mutual aid to struggling families in Gaza, circumventing barriers that often prevent aid from reaching people in war zones. We also discuss Bitcoin's social impact potential, improving sustainability in the Bitcoin mining industry, and the importance of listening to local communities regarding bitcoin ming, and how the industry can continue to embrace being a good neighbor. Margot and I encourage you to check out Yusef's Geyser Fundraiser and consider donating any sats/bitcoin if you can to support families in Gaza with basic essentials during this time of war and crises. But rather than try to ask for help, she decided to enlist the services of the website, RentAHitman.com. She is a mother to a 3-year-old, but that didn't stop Jazmin Paez from contacting a website looking for a hitman. In fact, Paez went online three times to find a hitman to murder her own son. RENT A HITMAN is the site police say Paez went to. It's a parody website, and this is just one more time the site's creator has reported harmful intent to the police. The child is safe and in the custody of his grandmother. Margot Paez is a Bitcoin Mining consultant & Troy Cross is a Professor of Philosophy, and both are Fellows at BPI. In this interview, we discuss the fracturing of political movements (particularly the progressives), why the left is in favour of CBDCs, how Bitcoin is a political tool, the Bitcoin Policy Summit, Bitcoin's image problem, and the issues and strengths of higher education. - - - - On this episode, we welcome back two eminent friends of the show: Margot Paez and Troy Cross. At the start of 2022, What Bitcoin Did actively searched for progressive voices within the community. It was soon apparent that there was a huge untapped well of thoughtful and brilliant people who had identified the powerful impact Bitcoin could have in supporting progressive causes. However, it is apparent that there is now a shift happening within the left: a fracturing of beliefs and approaches. Some progressives within Bitcoin are starting to align themselves with a more holistic ideology predicated on financial fairness, which is open to debate and collaboration with those on the other side of the aisle. At the root of this conversion is the belief that the promotion and use of Bitcoin itself is a political act. As Margot states: “it's an act of defiance”, but an act of defiance with teeth. Finally, activists have a tool that can take on the established centres of power. But, if we are to accelerate adoption and battle those who work against Bitcoin, education and advocacy still require a solid evidence base. Unfortunately, the FUD directed at Bitcoin has left an ingrained stain in the minds of many progressives. Margot, one of the main people within our community looking to bring academic rigour to support the claims being made about Bitcoin's societal benefits, has suffered directly as a result of this. She has effectively been kicked out of university because of her desire to study Bitcoin, by people with a progressive ideology. We must all do what we can to support people like Margot and Troy. They are the ones providing the Bitcoin movement with the analytical heft needed to protect it from institutional attacks. They do it quietly and diligently, pushing against stiff headwinds. We owe them a massive debt of gratitude.
“The project evaluating the Gridless model, whether it's sustainable under various price scenarios, whether it's sustainable in the local environment with water resources, that is a vital research project for humanity. We're talking about the potential for 10s of millions of people, let's say conservatively, to get electricity who don't have it… This is the kind of project we desperately need. And people aren't doing it.”— Troy CrossMargot Paez is a Bitcoin Mining consultant & Troy Cross is a Professor of Philosophy, and both are Fellows at BPI.
