Nations Royalty Corp Chief Investment Officer Derrick Pattenden joined Steve Darling from the Vancouver Resources Investment Conference to share news about the company's unique positioning as the first and largest majority Indigenous-owned publicly traded royalty company in Canada. Pattenden, who recently stepped into the CEO role after serving as Chief Investment Officer, explained the company's mission: pooling Indigenous-owned royalty assets to unlock greater value. “We believe the Indigenous peoples of Canada are very well served to create a mining royalty company of their own,” he said, highlighting how these groups can secure high-quality royalty interests in ways others cannot. The company's model is based on consolidating royalties that Indigenous groups currently hold in isolation. By pooling them, Nations Royalty believes these assets could trade at multiples of their standalone value. Pattenden emphasized that Indigenous communities have a unique advantage due to their proximity to resource development and involvement in key agreements related to environmental, legal, and financial terms—including royalties. Looking ahead to 2026, Pattenden outlined two major catalysts: progress on the Seabridge Gold KSM project, where Nations Royalty holds EBAY payments, and the announcement of a new Indigenous partnership that would launch the pooling initiative. He also noted the company's efforts to support Indigenous groups in negotiating fair royalty agreements. #proactiveinvestors #nationsroyaltycorp #tsxv #nrc #otcqb #nrycf #vric2026 #MiningRoyalties #IndigenousBusiness #SeabridgeGold #KSMProject #MiningInvestment #Royalties #ResourceDevelopment #TSXV #OTCQB #DerrickPattenden #CanadaMining #ProactiveInvestors #NaturalResou

Welcome to the fifth series in the annual podcast programme from Academic Archers, bringing you papers from our 2024 conference. This episode takes a lighthearted but well-informed look at funeral directing in Ambridge, using real-world research and practice as its frame.Funeral Directing in the UK through an Ambridge Lens - Abi PattendenWhat might funeral provision look like in Ambridge? This paper considers current UK funeral trends and applies them to the village's farming community on the edge of Birmingham. It imagines how existing Ambridge businesses could diversify: farms becoming natural burial grounds, Fallon catering for funeral receptions, or Brookfield's barn hosting gatherings. Could the proposed electric charging station even house a funeral directors? Drawing on demographic knowledge, past storylines and sector research, the paper explores how such services might emerge, while also noting how other continuing dramas have embedded funeral businesses into their communities.About the speakerAbi Pattenden has been a Funeral Director for 16 years and served as President of the National Association of Funeral Directors in 2018–19. She has previously presented at Academic Archers on funeral provision for Joe Grundy, Ambridge's death rates, and on comparing Rob Titchener to Shakespeare's Iago. Abi has an academic background in Shakespearean theatre and an ongoing research interest in funerals, having co-authored papers on topics such as configurational eulogies and hybrid funerals through Aberdeen University's Care in Funerals project. If you enjoy our work and would like to support Academic Archers, you can Buy Us a Coffee – buymeacoffee.com/academicarchers.

So you wanna live like the Common People do? It's time for part two of the Pulp story in which Yasi and music journalist and Pulpologist Siân Pattenden start back up at the peak of Britpop, tracing how “the great interlopers” of the genre captured the spirit and sound of the time with Different Class, and then soundtracked the comedown with This Is Hardcore — Britpop's bleary-eyed hangover (or maybe - a conversation with god???). Then it's into the Weeds: a retreat from fame into nature, the album We Love Life, and the band's 2000s revival and first new song in over a decade.  EPISODE PLAYLIST: Listen to the songs we talk about HERE.

Jana Byars talks to Miles Pattenden about his book, Electing the Pope in Early Modern Italy, 1450-1700 (Oxford UP, 2017), just about to be released in paperback. This study offers a radical reassessment of the history of early modern papacy, constructed through the first major analytical treatment of papal elections in English. Papal elections, with their ceremonial pomp and high drama, are compelling theater, but, until now, no one has analyzed them on the basis of the problems they created for cardinals: how were they to agree rules and enforce them? How should they manage the interregnum? How did they decide for whom to vote? How was the new pope to assert himself over a group of men who, until just moments before, had been his equals and peers? This study traces how the cardinals' responses to these problems evolved over the period from Martin V's return to Rome in 1420 to Pius VI's departure from it in 1798, placing them in the context of the papacy's wider institutional developments. Miles Pattenden argues not only that the elective nature of the papal office was crucial to how papal history unfolded but also that the cardinals of the fifteenth to eighteenth centuries present us with a unique case study for observing the approaches to decision-making and problem-solving within an elite political group. We also talk about the process in light of the upcoming Conclave and the election of a new pope. Learn more about your ad choices. For this episode we're joined in person by the delightful Siân Pattenden, author of the Agatha Bilke and Magical Peppers children's book series. We start by asking our guest about her early years as a child actor and teenage playwright before she describes the fanzines she published with her pal Nicky Fijalkowska. We hear how these helped to get her foot in the door at Smash Hits, the million-selling pop bi-weekly she joined in 1989. Quotes from classic Hits pieces she wrote are interspersed with hilarious recollections of working alongside Tom Doyle and Sylvia Patterson.  From "Ver Hits" we move on to the more indie-tastic Select and Siân's part in the Britpop wars – with special attention to Elastica, Jarvis Cocker and a pulped July 1994 issue that contained her guide to "legal highs". After reminiscences of a stint teaching music writing at the London School of Journalism, Siân explains the genesis of her 1998 book How to Make It in the Music Business. Mention of a 2007 Guardian Blogs piece bemoaning the "boy-rock" template established by the Beatles leads into reflections on the all-girl Bangles, subject of a new authorised biography by two-time RBP podcast guest Jennifer Otter Bickerdike. The desperately sad passing of David Johansen prompted us to dig out and digitise a 1994 audio interview with the sometime New York Dolls frontman. We hear three clips of David talking very amusingly to Q's Mat Snow – and in the process pay tribute to the singer and his fellow Dolls.  After Jasper marks the 70th anniversary of the death of Charlie Parker with quotes from the late Richard Cook's magnificent 1995 piece about the bebop genius, we pay additional tribute to jazz-funk vibraphonist Roy Ayers and neo-soul queen Angie Stone. Plus we armour up for Amazon's new adaptation of Lord of the Rings, and the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon, now well into its run on Sky.   “This is our punk record, not a punk record.” - Brett Anderson “Every few years we have to burn it all down and start again.” - Mat Osman  “I wanted to make the rock record of a 55 year old man. It's not a record about the arrogance of youth, but the vulnerability of being middle aged.” - Brett Anderson “I'm determined not to become comfortable and irrelevant.” - Brett Anderson “I experience just as much anxiety as a 50 year old as when I was a teenager. The problems are just different.” - Brett Anderson “When you're an audience member, you've got a role in the performance.” - Brett Anderson Hear all the music on our rolling playlists.
