Often overshadowed by his former bandmates, Ringo Starr has his own remarkable story that is no less compelling. Ringo: A Fab Life highlights a life so jaw-droppingly eventful that one is left wondering how he also had time to become one of the best musicians on the planet.Employing an episodic, mosaic format, critically acclaimed author Tom Doyle takes readers through the ride of a lifetime, from Starr's brushes with death as a child brought up in poverty, through to dizzying heights of fame and success with the Beatles and beyond. By examining pivotal moments, anecdotes, and cautionary tales, we see Starr soar as part of the biggest band in the world - and then try to cope with life outside of it with a film career, misadventures with friends, children's TV narration, furniture designing, and marriage to a Bond girl, before eventually finding peace and sobriety as one of the elder statesmen of rock.So much more than another Beatles biography, Ringo follows Starr's career far beyond the rose-tinted '60s, through the various addictions and career left turns in the '70s and '80s, before reaching the '90s, his legacy and reputation intact. The life of Richard Starkey is long overdue for a proper inspection, and this book - with exclusive new interviews conducted by Doyle with Starr himself, among others - provides a never-before-seen level of detail that will delight hardcore fans and curious readers alike.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

The Strange Brew - artist stories behind the greatest music ever recorded

Tom Doyle digs into the remarkable, and surprisingly chaotic, story of Paul McCartney’s post-Beatles decade. Tom’s book Man on the Run, reissued to coincide with the official documentary of the same name, charts McCartney’s journey from 1969 to 1981: from morning drinking on a Scottish farm to headlining Madison Square Garden. Tom covers Linda’s role in keeping Paul from the brink, the brotherly war-and-reconciliation with John Lennon, the near-collaboration that almost happened in New Orleans in 1975, Denny Laine’s loyal lieutenancy, the extraordinary circumstances behind Band on the Run, the rise and fall of Wings, and the moment John Lennon’s murder brought the freewheeling seventies era to a sudden stop. Further information Man on the Run and Ringo: A Fab Life by Tom Doyle are available now. (Ringo: A Fab Life, US release May 2026). Operation: Epic Fury is underway and dominating the news. On In The Market with Janet Parshall this week we helped you understand this latest conflict from a biblical perspective. Our guests, including Tom Doyle, Hormoz Shariat, Lana Silk and Al Fadi, helped us better understand Iran, its people and what is driving the radical Islamic beliefs that have crippled the nation for decades. Our guests explained why the Iranian people around the world are celebrating this military action and why it is creating an open door for the spread of the gospel. Dr. Arnie Cole, the CEO of Back to the Bible shared the results of a study that shows increased bible sales is not adding up to transformed lives and what believers need to do about it. Dr. Mitch Glaser of Chosen People Ministries explained a new survey that shows strong support from evangelicals for the people of Israel, despite what we are hearing in the popular media. Shawn Wicks joined Janet to give answers to false assumptions about the bible that is creating confusion for people who say that this ancient document just can’t stand up to scrutiny and life in our modern world. The need to see the world through a biblical perspective is never more apparent than in times like these where decisive military action is reshaping the lands of biblical history. We encourage you to join us once again as we examine the historic events of this week through the lens of scripture.Become a Parshall Partner: http://moodyradio.org/donateto/inthemarket/partnersSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Broadcasting from the vibrant city of San Antonio, Texas, Clint shares insights inspired by a podcast featuring Tom Doyle, an evangelist dedicated to reaching Muslims through acts of service and the Gospel. Listeners will hear powerful stories of how Jesus is revealing Himself to Muslims both abroad and in the United States. Through captivating audio clips, Clint highlights Tom's experiences, including a striking account of a man who, during a pilgrimage to Mecca, encounters a vision of Jesus urging him to follow a different path. This narrative sets the stage for a discussion about the significance of these divine encounters and the transformative power of faith. As the episode unfolds, Clint reflects on his own hesitations and the importance of being receptive to God's calling. He emphasizes the need to be prepared and attentive to the opportunities God places in our lives, even in seemingly mundane situations—like a gas station encounter that leads to a profound spiritual conversation. With biblical references to the prophetic words of Joel, Clint encourages listeners to recognize the signs of the times and to be ready to share the Gospel with those whose hearts are being primed by God. This episode serves as a reminder that God is actively working in the lives of individuals across the globe, and it challenges us to step out in faith, engage in meaningful conversations, and share the love of Jesus with those who may be seeking answers. Join Clint for this enlightening discussion that blends personal testimony with scriptural wisdom, and discover how to navigate the call to reach out to others with compassion and confidence.

We start by asking our guest about her early years as a child actor and teenage playwright before she describes the fanzines she published with her pal Nicky Fijalkowska. We hear how these helped to get her foot in the door at Smash Hits, the million-selling pop bi-weekly she joined in 1989. Quotes from classic Hits pieces she wrote are interspersed with hilarious recollections of working alongside Tom Doyle and Sylvia Patterson.  From "Ver Hits" we move on to the more indie-tastic Select and Siân's part in the Britpop wars – with special attention to Elastica, Jarvis Cocker and a pulped July 1994 issue that contained her guide to "legal highs". After reminiscences of a stint teaching music writing at the London School of Journalism, Siân explains the genesis of her 1998 book How to Make It in the Music Business. Mention of a 2007 Guardian Blogs piece bemoaning the "boy-rock" template established by the Beatles leads into reflections on the all-girl Bangles, subject of a new authorised biography by two-time RBP podcast guest Jennifer Otter Bickerdike. The desperately sad passing of David Johansen prompted us to dig out and digitise a 1994 audio interview with the sometime New York Dolls frontman. We hear three clips of David talking very amusingly to Q's Mat Snow – and in the process pay tribute to the singer and his fellow Dolls.  After Jasper marks the 70th anniversary of the death of Charlie Parker with quotes from the late Richard Cook's magnificent 1995 piece about the bebop genius, we pay additional tribute to jazz-funk vibraphonist Roy Ayers and neo-soul queen Angie Stone.
