Don't Panic, Weirdos! TW: photos of mummified remains, death, possible murder & torture, stillbirth, depression, animal abuse Welcome to another episode of KEEP IT WEIRD the podcast for all things strange & unusual, beautiful & batty, creepy & cringe and everything in between! Everytime we get together we chat about something WEIRD and this week we've got quite the adventure for you. Lauren is going to start us off with an UNSOLVED MYSTERY straight out of the BOG. From as far back as the 17th century we have been discovering strangely preserved BODIES in the bogs of Europe, some of which date all the way back to 8000 BC, and no one knows why they are there. The unique physical and biochemical composition of the peat bogs have kept some of these bodies preserved to the point that they still have hair, internal organs and even FOOD (and drugs) in their stomachs. Was this a popular dumping ground for murderers? Was it a holy place used for ritual sacrifice? Did these folks just wander into the bog? We may never know... Then Ashley is taking us DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE for a quest that takes us from Marine Mammal Law all the way to NHI (Non-Human Intelligence) theories as we read some stories about cetaceans, specifically DOLPHINS, and their potential to have special abilities far beyond our understanding. Can they communicate telepathically? Help heal the sick? Act as your doula? Control UFOs? It may sound crazy, but that's because we live in a crazy world. ALSO this episode features our very first WITCHY WEATHER FORECAST hosted by Laura Lareau!! Laura will pop in to every other episode to give us a look at that month's celestial energies, moon phases, and all around witchy festivities to teach us how to celebrate our woo-woo side and get in touch with our inner witch. Despite some initial apprehensions based on the discourse and reviews from trusted sources, we both found the film to be a stylish, funny, and intelligent examination of desire, kink, and the ways that the patriarchy suppresses and rejects expressions of female pleasure that are incongruent with the capitalist guardrails of our culture. We begin by discussing the film's nimble balancing of aesthetic impulses which heighten the proceeding's with a sense of hyperreality without sacrificing the story's emotional core. Then, we praise the magnetic work of Nicole Kidman, and the nuances of her performance and character: a high-powered woman caught in the ideological trap of patriarchy that grants her material success while demanding that she stifle her corporeal desires, judging them as aberrant, even wicked. Finally, we explore the film's thoughtful approach to the nature of sexuality and erotic experience, finding compelling layers of meaning and understanding often missing from today's films.Read Justine Peres Smith on Babygirl for Cult MTL.Read Jourdain Searles on Babygirl for the Los Angeles Review of Books.Pre-Order Xuanlin Tham's Revolutionary Desires from 404Ink.....Our theme song is "Mirror" by Chris Fish.

Pour yourself a tall glass of milk (or better yet, have an admirer send you one) and prepare for a conversation about an erotic thriller blowing up the internet right now. Halina Reijn is the Dutch writer-director responsible for 2022's Bodies Bodies Bodies, who's followed up that razor-sharp murder-mystery pastiche with another film that infuses an old genre with modern politics. In Babygirl, Nicole Kidman's tech CEO Romy begins an affair with an intern – Samuel, played by Harris Dickinson. The potential consequences of their relationship are catastrophic: Romy, married with kids, could lose her family and her rarified position as one of the few female leaders in a male-dominated tech world. But, as Halina explains in our spoiler conversation, Samuel is unlocking in Romy desires that she didn't know she had – longings till now, clouded in shame.Listen in to hear about the personal parts of Halina's own journey with her sexuality that informed Babygirl, why she chose a dog attack as the thematically-important “meet cute” for Romy and Samuel – and what she hopes is the knock-on effect of this morally complex tale on the discourse around the pleasures women permit themselves to seek.Script Apart is hosted by Al Horner and produced by Kamil Dymek. In this episode, we sit aside the movie deep dives to tackle a discussion topic in honor of the spooky season. And what better topic to discuss than the things that actually scare us. So join us as we get deep and share it all, highlighting five films that have really and truly scared us in our lives. The criteria were simple: the film had to legitimately scare us either when we first watched to the point it left some significant impact or still actually unnerves us today. And by scared, we specifically mean the type where you're still thinking about the film after. Jumpscares are fun, and we love them, but like a funhouse ride the moment is fleeting. Jason drills down on the origin of his preoccupation with child endangerment in film. Dustin unpacks his crippling fear of all things creepy crawly. But before all that, we dish on some of our October daily viewings and weigh in on Art the Clown's ascension to horror icon with Terrifier 3. And so much more! Bodies Bodies Bodies! This week was all about bodies! Fake bodies, Bodies with a price tag and some more stuff. Whew this some stuff right here. We open the pod with banter about comfortable footwear and racism. What did we stop doing as a result of racism? The Young Dolph trial started and Wop and Dj report on that as best they can. @32 min Dj ask Wop "How long have you been on the internet?" This leads into some entertaining stories about the twerk team and ghetto barbie. This Barbie happened to have an internet duel with Jhonni Blaze at the end of last week and we give a play by play of this duel. How come women can't survive a girl's trip? Can guys survive a guy's trip? Or do they never execute the trip because guys are guys? @69 min we are interrupted by Cardi and her present-day drama. If your partner cheat on you, is it really revenge to cheat back? Who is hurting who at this point? PSA From Dj @80 mins - "I need miles on it" This was a really good conversation ans I need all the listeners to chime in on it.

Get Out, The Menu, Bodies Bodies Bodies und ja, auch etwas Fantasy Island.

T is back to look at a brand new slasher from one of the architects of the Saw Franchise, Marcus Dunstan. A film that invokes Bodies Bodies Bodies and another slasher franchise if they had used an original idea that had for it! All My Friends Are Dead A group of college friends rents an airbnb for the biggest music festival of the year. However, their weekend of partying soon takes a deadly turn as a masked killer murders them one by one according to their sins.
Colleen joins Caitlin to cover Bodies Bodies Bodies, a 2022 horror-comedy from A24. The movie touches on themes of technology, messy interpersonal relationships, and privilege, all while making us laugh. Forgive my goof of conflating Rachel Sennott and her character, Alice. Tangents include: Ms. New Booty, astrology, whisper singing, A24, Zach, podcasting, walking out of movies, swords, internet trends, new albums, xenomorphs vs The Thing, and a good ol' FMK.

Listener note: due to a glitchy mic, we had to lose a few minutes of this episode. Unfortunately that's where we put all the good jokes so we apologize for that. In this week's episode, we decided to ask our Patróns to suggest some queer-friendly horror films, and many of them mentioned the 2022 film "Bodies Bodies Bodies." Special topics for your consideration include: the absolute oldest we have ever felt, Pete Davidson's hog, an unintentional game of "Celebrities Katie Doesn't Know," being a real Alice, and how rich people have more fun than we do.
