The automotive world spans an incredible spectrum from practical daily drivers to ultra-luxury vehicles that cost more than many homes. We dive deep into both extremes with our detailed examinations of the completely redesigned 2025 Infinity QX80 Autograph AWD and the efficient 2025 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid XSE AWD.The third-generation QX80 represents Infinity's flagship luxury SUV, combining imposing presence with incredible comfort features. With heated, ventilated, and massaging seats for both front and second-row occupants, a cutting-edge 14.3-inch touchscreen, digital instruments, and advanced safety features, this seven-passenger behemoth delivers a first-class experience. Powered by a twin-turbocharged V6 generating 450 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, it also offers substantial capability with 8,500 pounds of towing capacity. We explore whether its smooth air ride suspension, opulent quilted leather, and 24-speaker Klipsch audio system justify the eye-watering $113,965 price tag (yes, that includes the $355 optional umbrella holder).Between our modern SUV reviews, we take a fascinating detour into automotive history with the overlooked 1971 Plymouth GTX. This gorgeous Mopar muscle car arrived just as the muscle car era was winding down, resulting in limited production despite its stunning fastback styling and powerful 440 cubic inch V8 options. With only 326 examples produced with the desirable 440+6 and four-speed manual transmission, values have skyrocketed to $150,000+ for well-restored examples. Finally, we examine the American-built 2025 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid XSE AWD, which delivers 219 horsepower and excellent fuel economy in a practical, versatile package. Priced at $43,509 as tested, we compare it to hybrid competitors from Honda, Hyundai, and Ford while evaluating its balanced capabilities for both daily commuting and light off-road adventures. What's your take on these vastly different approaches to the SUV market? Driving 2025 Ford Bronco Sport Sasquatch: Smokin' Off-Road in the Smokies

The 2025 Ford Bronco Sport has received a significant upgrade with the introduction of the Sasquatch off-road package. Host Jack Nerad drove it just days ago and then discussed the vehicle's nuances with Bronco Sport Brand Manager Mike Weller at a special event outside Knoxville, Tennessee. We'll share that interview with you on America on the Road this week. As off-road fans know, the serious all-terrain Sasquatch package was previously exclusive to the larger Bronco, but Ford is now making it available for the Bronco Sport Badlands and Outer Banks models. It significantly enhances the vehicle's off-road capabilities with features like a twin-clutch rear-drive unit, locking rear differential, and large 29-inch Goodyear Territory All-Terrain tires, giving the likable crossover much greater off-pavement capabilities. The Bronco Sport's Sasquatch package exterior features modular steel bumpers, additional underbody protection, and revised wheel designs. Interior enhancements include an available grab handle and auxiliary switches. As Weller detailed in the exclusive interview, these updates make the Bronco Sport a more versatile small SUV that caters to outdoor enthusiasts seeking both capability and modern technology. And he'll share much more. In the news this week, Tesla Motors is returning to an old marketing scheme by offering cash for referrals. It could save you a substantial amount if you plan to buy an EV soon, and we'll have the details. There's crankiness in Detroit, as a union leader suggests that the CEO of a global automaker should resign in a dispute over the reopening of a factory. We'll tell the who's and why's on that one and what the future of the automaker might hold. The agonizingly slow rollout of the electric vehicle charging network is getting a lot of people hot under the collar. Now the federal government is poised to spend more than $500 million in that effort, and we'll tell you if it could mean you'll finally get some DC fast chargers at a convenient location near you. On a happier note, Hagerty is getting ready to display some full-size versions of classic Hot Wheels vehicles on the National Mall in Washington, DC. We'll tell you when that will happen and share some Hot Wheels stories, too. In our road tests this week, Co-Host Chris Teague got a very early chance to drive Infiniti's all-new full-size 2025 QX80. Does it have the goods to play in the big leagues of full-size luxury SUVs like the Cadillac Escalade, Lincoln Navigator and Grand Wagoneer? Teague will share his opinion. Across the country, Jack Nerad spent the past week testing the enhanced Volkswagen ID.4 Pro S, a very appealing revamp of the battery-electric-powered U.S.-built compact crossover SUV. Delivering more miles on a charge, the Pro S version of the vehicle might be the best combination of range, performance, charging ability and value VW has ever offered. Nerad will have all the details coming up. In all, we have a ton of show this week. Thanks for joining us. The hosts each made base-price predictions. Tom read a listener letter, and chatted briefly about the wool seats in his test Volvo XC60 Recharge small crossover. Tom also shared his impressions of the all-new 2025 Infiniti QX80 large SUV. Tom had called the previous-generation QX80 the worst vehicle in its class. What does he think of the new version? Listen in. In the second segment Jill and Tom are joined by Don Sikora of Collectible Automobile magazine. Don walked the hosts through the current issue, and shared some insights into the 1994-1996 Chevrolet Impala SS featured this month. Don was also forced to indulge Tom's reading of a series of potential feature cars for upcoming issues. In the last segment Jill is forced to endure Tom's “Which Sold Better?” quiz, featuring a bonus question about the snacks available at Buc-ee's.

[As hosts Jack Nerad and Chris Teague take Labor Day weekend off, this is the repeat of a popular episode that originally aired in July. Jack and Chris will be back with an all-new episode next week.] While many claim the future is electric, statistics indicate the present day is ICE. Further evidence of that came this week with reports that inventories of newly introduced electric vehicles are piling up on dealer lots and in manufacturer inventories. While this is a cloud for many in the industry, it might represent a silver lining for all those who have been hankering for an electric vehicle, but either couldn't find one at all or were unwilling to pay well beyond the suggested list price to get one. So this could be an excellent time to buy a Ford F-150 Lightning pickup truck, a Ford Mustang Mach-E crossover, a Kia EV6 small utility, a Lucid Air luxury sedan, or a Cadillac Lyriq SUV, among many others. While, according to Experian data, EV registrations rose 68 percent in the January-to-May timeframe, some vehicles that were in short supply last year are much more available right now. EVs have risen from four percent market share in 2022 to seven percent share now, but the influx of new electric models could be flooding the marketplace with more choices than carbuyers can process. How do Americans feel about electric cars? A lot of people have opinions, but J.D. Power has data from real consumers. And our special guest this week, Stewart Stropp, executive director of EV intelligence at J.D. Power will tell all about it in his interview with Host Jack Nerad. In the road test segment, Host Jack Nerad will evaluate the pluses and minuses of the Infiniti QX80 full-size luxury SUV. The QX80 isn't the freshest vehicle in the segment, but it checks most of the boxes a luxury SUV needs to check. And compared to others in the class, it could be an excellent buy. Co-Host Chris Teague will test another three-row SUV this week, the 2023 Hyundai Palisade. The likable midsize crossover SUV has been a popular choice since its introduction as a 2021 model, and it's even better for 2023. Self-driving cars have always seemed to be about 10 years away, but we might be getting closer if the National Highway Traffic Administration rules favorably on a request from General Motors. The Detroit-based automaker has asked to be allowed to test its self-driving technology on public roads, and now it is waiting for an answer. NHTSA says that a ruling might be forthcoming soon, and we'll have the details. Fans of big SUVs — and that's most Americans — will be happy to learn that Volvo has just introduced a battery-electric three-row, seven-seat vehicle. We'll give you the details on the 2024 Volvo EX90 later in this segment. All that and much, much more will be there for you in this edition of America on the Road. For the 2022 model year, the Mustang will offer five new special edition models while standing pat mechanically. With no major changes this year in powertrain or suspension, the special editions should give buyers a new reason to take a look at the venerable sports model. The limited editions are designed to suit a wide variety of tastes. They include the Shelby GT500 Heritage Edition, Ice White Edition Coupe, California Special GT Performance Package, Coastal Limited Edition, and the Stealth Edition. Each model adds unique appearance items to suit their intended audiences. In our road test segment, host Jack Nerad takes a long look at the Mustang to see how it stacks up in the crazy market we now find ourselves in. Helping us sort out this crazy market is an expert on auto retailing. Marina Angelides, the chief financial officer of automotiveMastermind, is our special guest this week. She deeply understands the intersection between the car buyer and the car dealer, and she'll help us all get a handle on what is going on as the prices of both used cars and new cars skyrocket, leaving consumers in the dust. In the car review segment of this week's America on the Road, Co-Host Chris Teague will examine the Infiniti QX80 luxury full-size SUV. The segment has grown ever more competitive, and Teague will give his opinion on whether the QX80 is a worthy competitor for the Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator. In the news, Jack Nerad returned from the J.D. Power Automotive Summit filled with information about the current state of the industry and where it is likely to go in the future. He'll share those insights, and Nerad and Teague will discuss the return of the much-missed Acura Integra. Can it pull Acura from its funk? That and more in this episode of America on the Road.
