In this episode, Tu and Lei discuss the latest developments in the electric vehicle (EV) sector, focusing on key events such as the New York Auto Show and the upcoming Shanghai Auto Show. They highlight BYD's recent achievements, including winning prestigious awards and expanding its global presence. The conversation also touches on the challenges faced by EV manufacturers, the importance of intelligent driving technology, and the impact of recent accidents on the industry's marketing strategies. Additionally, they explore the role of Chinese tech companies in shaping the future of the automotive landscape and the significance of battery technology advancements.
Jill and Tom opened the show talking about Jill's recent move. Good news, she's now closer to the studio. Tom went on to discuss British sports-car maker/engineering firm Lotus, which has been owned by a number of carmakers over the years. It appears that Lotus is again up for sale. The hosts also discussed a new round of Tesla Cybertruck price cuts, and the brand's sales share in California, one of its most-important markets. Still in the first segment, Jill shared her impressions of the new-for-2025 Ford Maverick Lobo, a sporty trim level that boasts a number of driving-enthusiast features. In the second segment, the hosts welcome fellow journalist Joel Feder to the Car Stuff Podcast. Joel shared sad news regarding the shuttering of a popular auto-review website, and his insights into a number of topics, including the Subaru Forester redesign and current styling trends. In the last segment, Jill is subjected to Tom's “Subaru!” quiz.

The 2025 Lucid Gravity marks a major step for Lucid Motors as it enters the hotly competitive luxury electric SUV market. With a bold aerodynamic design, three-row practicality, and up to 828 horsepower, the Gravity aims to combine performance and family-friendly utility in a premium package. By doing so, it seeks to upset the luxury SUV applecart as it rockets to the top of the pack. This past week, host Jack Nerad was one of a select few journalists to drive and road test the Gravity for the first time. During his stint behind the wheel, he sampled the Gravity's dynamic split personality. At once, it is a highly competent performance vehicle and a fully utilitarian SUV that can tow, haul and convey seven adults at a rate few are accustomed to. Powered by dual motors producing up to 828 horsepower and 909 lb-ft of torque, the Gravity can accelerate to 60 mph in a claimed 3.4 seconds. Its air suspension, rear-wheel steering, and adjustable ride height make it a surprisingly agile and adaptable vehicle, particularly given its 6,048-pound curb weight, while a Terrain Mode and 6,000-pound towing capacity further expand its versatility. But is it a vehicle you'd want to live with day-to-day, given the elevated level of several of its rivals? Nerad will offer his views. In our other road test, co-host Chris Teague takes one of the nation's most popular plug-in hybrid vehicles through its paces as winter turns to spring in Maine. As unlikely as it might seem, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe is among the best sellers among the much-misunderstood roster of PHEVs. Its credentials are strong, but, again, is it a wise choice given its premium price over other Wranglers? Teague and Nerad will weigh in. When it comes to family vehicles, the Hyundai Palisade has gained a reputation as a thinking person's choice. Now, Hyundai has just introduced the all-new 2026 version, and Nerad went behind the scenes for an exclusive interview with Hyundai Product Planning Manager Melvyn Bautista to take a deep dive into the vehicle. It is both Easter week and New York Auto Show week, so we have a lot of news from each. Easter in Moab, Utah, is one of the biggest off-road gatherings of the year, and Jeep and Ford are there showing off concept vehicles. We have the details. Several new models have been introduced in and around the New York show, and we'll tell you about cool vehicles from Kia, Toyota, Mercedes-Benz and Audi in this episode. Used car buyers might be in for a price shock in the next few weeks, and it has nothing to do with tariffs. We'll tell you more and, of course, we'll have the latest auto tariff news for you too. Austin Nerad 2007-2025Our beloved dog, Austin, went to heaven this week. We miss him so. The Automotive Troublemaker w/ Paul J Daly and Kyle Mountsier
Shoot us a Text.Episode #1023: From tariff talk taking over the New York Auto Show to Toyota rethinking RAV4 production, and LiveWire's electric leap into law enforcement—we've got you covered.Show Notes with links:Automakers came to New York looking to celebrate new vehicles, but found themselves answering the same old questions—about tariffs. Despite flashy debuts and high-octane reveals, the weight of trade policy loomed over every conversation.Subaru U.S. chief Jeff Walters debuted the all-new Outback, only to field immediate questions about tariffs instead of the vehicle.Nissan embraced the tension with a tongue-in-cheek window decal reading “FREE from new tariffs” on its U.S.-built models. They also revealed plans to build 80% of U.S. inventory domestically, up from 50%, citing flexibility amid tariff volatility.Tariffs dominated nearly every conference panel, with one moderator finally pausing and saying, “Ladies and gentlemen, the bar is open.” It was 10 a.m.Our friend John Bozzella of the Alliance for Automotive Innovation called for more time and flexibility, warning that rushed tariff policy could mean “increased prices and a slowing of sales.” “The key is time for adjustment,” Bozzella said. “This is a massive industry.”Toyota is reevaluating its production strategy for the next-gen RAV4, exploring a shift to U.S. manufacturing as a hedge against 25% import tariffs and currency swings.Toyota sold over 475,000 RAV4s in the U.S. last year—its most popular model, making up 20% of its U.S. volume.Originally planned for export from Japan and Canada, U.S. production in Kentucky is now under serious consideration. The shift would help meet expected demand and mitigate tariff-related costs, with potential U.S. output beginning in 2027.While plans aren't final, Toyota noted it “continually studied ways to improve its manufacturing” but declined to confirm speculation.LiveWire, the electric spin-off from Harley-Davidson, is getting into the public service game with a new line of police-spec electric motorcycles. The new fleet includes emergency lighting, sirens, and reinforced mounts, tailored for urban patrol, motorcades, and event security.Benefits include low maintenance, silent operation, and instant torque—ideal for quick maneuvering through tight city traffic.Custom ride modes, regenerative braking, and one-handed operation aim to reduce officer fatigue and improve shift efficiency.Police departments can choose from a suite of configurations, reinforcing the model's flexibility in law enforcement roles.Join Paul J Daly and Kyle Mountsier every morning for the Automotive State of the Union podcast as they connect the dots across car dealerships, retail trends, emerging tech like AI, and cultural shifts—bringing clarity, speed, and people-first insight to automotive leaders navigating a rapidly changing industry.Get the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/

You could say the Ford F-150 Lightning Switchgear is the unexpected Lightning. Sporting 37-inch tires and outrageous bodywork, the Ford Performance on- and off-road demonstrator vehicle doesn't simply get stares for how it looks but also for what it can do. That's because the stuff it can do is pretty epic. In this week's show we get behind the scenes of this amazing one-off truck in an interview with one of its key development engineers, Sri Pakkam. He'l give us the details on why Ford decided to build the truck, the challenges the development team has faced and what it hopes the truck can acomplish. Designed and built in collaboration with RTR Vehicles and inspired by the 2016 F-150 RTR Ultimate Fun-Haver project vehicle, the Switchgear's arresting carbon bodywork covers off-road upgrades that take the F-150 Lightning where it's never been. With a wider track, greatly improved ground clearance, and plenty of suspension travel, it's a testbed for pushing the boundaries of what's expected from electric trucks. The interview will tell you more. The road test segment will also include an electric vehicle this week. Co-Host Chris Teague was blessed with the opportunity to drive the 2024 Genesis GV60 crossover in a week of frigid temperatures, ice and snow in Maine. Across the country, Host Jack Nerad drove the 2024 Mazda CX-90 to the desert and back, battling 80-degree temperatures and sunny conditions all the way. In the news this week, we will examine the key vehicles unveiled at the New York Auto Show. Hyundai, Nissan, Kia, Porsche and Genesis showed off some notable vehicles. We offer details and give our thoughts on each one. Meanwhile, there is plenty of trouble in EV Land. Ford has just laid off or transferred two-thirds of the 2,100 workers at its Rouge plant who were building F-150 Lightning electric pickups. Things are even more dire at Fisker. The EV brand has cut prices drastically on its 2023 models as it tries to fend off imminent bankruptcy. Investors in the company have been told to prepare for the worst. We'll have our comments on all this mayhem coming up. So we have a lot of show for you this week Please join us for this week's episode. The Hyundai Santa Fe midsize crossover has been successful for multiple generations in the United States, but it is expected to leap to an even higher level with the imminent introduction of the all-new 2024 version. Host Jack Nerad drove the vehicle on and off the road at a recent introductory event outside Nashville, and he got the opportunity for a detailed sit-down interview with Hyundai product planner Mike Evanoff. In many ways, the new Santa Fe is a breakthrough that we expect will find a very receptive audience here in the United States. Hyundai's Evanoff describes the meticulous efforts the Hyundai designers made to prepare the new vehicle, and he'll detail his own camping trip in it as well. We'll have the exclusive interview for you in this edition of America on the Road. In the road test segment, Co-Host Chris Teague will outline his recent week-long stint at the wheel of the 2024 Subaru Ascent. That crossover is the largest in the Subaru lineup, and Teague compares and contrasts it with his family's Volvo XC90. The vehicles have some striking similarities. Also, in our road tests, Jack Nerad will describe his lengthy driving experience with the extremely pleasant 2024 Genesis G70. The midsize sedan isn't the sportiest in the segment, but it might well be the best value, and Nerad will tell you why. Leading the news this week, Jeep has pulled the wraps off four fascinating concept vehicles in Moab, and we'll tell you all about them. Volkswagen is on the verge of launching an all-new battery-electric vehicle brand in the United States, and if you think the timing might be a little suspect, well, perhaps we do, too. We'll tell you more. One thing about which there is no question is auto dealers' ire at the new Environmental Protection Agency regs that will require them to sell more EVs. One very prominent dealer says the regulations leave consumers out of the equation, and we'll have details. Kia just introduced an all-new vehicle—the K4—at the New York Auto Show. We'll tell you what it is, what it replaces, and give you our reaction soon. So we have a whale of a show this Easter weekend. Thanks for joining us. March 27, 2024 | Hyundai's José Muñoz Part 1; New York Auto Show by Automotive News
On this episode of The Healey Brothers Show, Jason Healey and Nicky Paraggio sit down to talk about the infamous New York Auto Show. The New York Auto Show is where automakers reveal all-new models and where they announce the World Car Awards. Tune is as we talk about why we go, what awards our brands have a received in the past few years, and what we expect for this year.
Kelly is feeling humbled by her jumping joints and pregnancy evolution, but today's fast lane philosophy is giving her hope. "To rest is to repair yourself to be used by God," and that's good to hear, especially when you've got to say no to a cool opportunity because of the cost. Today's millennial word is giving boundaries. 'Acting your wage' is about doing just what you're paid for and Kelly and Lizz have mixed feelings about the idea. Apparently it's orange season! So, put the cuties back and peel yourself a luscious orange to enjoy a simple base model luxury. Then, join Lizz on her sourdough cinnamon roll and fruit leather adventure. Viral reels and potty bag consumerism kick off the gals' dumpity do dahs. There's something sketchy going on with Kate Middleton and the royal family and…isn't there always? The Montana Boys have Kelly and Lizz asking, 'Can 24 year old boys have a social media presence without being unbelievably cringey?' Grayson gives her take and assures her sisters that she isn't their demographic either. Spring cleaning and organizing is right around the corner. So now is the time to get that Caraway cookware set you've had your eye on. This internet famous kitchenware is a staple for any home and comes in various modern shades to fit any design aesthetic. And not only is Caraway healthy and beautiful, their pans also come with the perfect storage system. Over 65,000 people have given Caraway kitchenware five stars. Now it's time to try it for yourself. → Visit carawayhome.com/carpool or use the code CARPOOL at checkout to get 10% off your next purchase for a limited time. Special guest Scotty Reiss from A Girl's Guide to Cars joins the Carpool for industry news. She's been in the automotive world since 2013 bringing content by women for women to help them become smarter and happier car owners. And while the industry has been changing from the inside, the retail side is still slow to catch up. The New York Auto Show has been changing that and on Saturday, March 30th from 7 pm to 9 pm (or whenever the party fizzles) Scotty will be offering a behind the scenes VIP tour experience for women. Scotty also brings today's ditch the drive-through: a delicious pasta dish that comes together in a snap. Set your oven to 425 and in an oven-safe dish layer spinach (fresh or frozen), tomatoes (small or quartered), garlic cloves (one per person), and ricotta cheese (¼ cup per person). Drizzle the whole thing with olive oil, put a lid on the dish, and bake for 30 to 40 minutes. Boil your pasta while it bakes. When the veggie mixture is done, smash the tomatoes and garlic and toss your pasta in. Serve with crusty bread. → To share your ditch the drive-through recipe with us, call (959) CAR-POOL and leave us a message! → Write in your advice questions! Not one but TWO new Carpool babies are on board for this celebratory episode! Tune in for a full report on family baby announcements and Kelly and Lizz's early pregnancy symptoms. Shout out to @themomfluencer on IG for today's millennial word of the day, "Do it for the plot," which is the new—and much cooler—way of saying 'yolo.' In driveway dumps Kelly and Lizz talk about detoxing your home. Lizz finished her first candle to get rid of artificial fragrances and Kelly and her kids have switched to The Primal Kitchen ketchup. Lizz shares her backsplash project progress and Kelly updates us on her fish fry bar-baking journey. Her three-staple recipes are yet to be found for biscuits, cookies, and lemon bars. Got pregnancy brain? Then chances are you'll end up forgetting a thing or two, like when to cancel that trial subscription you started. Stop wasting your money on things you don't use, like sneaky subscriptions that pile up so quickly. Put them all in one place and easily cancel the ones you're not using with Rocket Money. This personal finance app can also monitor spending and help you lower your bills—all in one, easy-to-use place. → Download the Rocket Money app at rocketmoney.com/carpool Last three transactions Lizz kicks off the last three transactions segment with her car seat purchase for Mattie's truck, the Britax Poplar. This seat is easy to install and get tight, even if you've got three across. She's also picked up a hot glue gun to get her wicks just right for candle making and a retractable baby gate to keep James safe around the stairs. Kelly is excited about the lifetime lockers that have arrived for her new garage and is less thrilled about needing to order magnesium lotion for her pregnancy arthritis. Lastly, Primally Pure Skincare is on it's way after Kelly took their quiz and ordered the whole kit! Rivian's R2 reveal brings us a cute little SUV that starts at $45K. In industry news, Kelly shares that they also had a surprise R3 reveal along with it. And if you're actually shopping at the New York Auto Show, check out group tours with Scotty from 'A Girl's Guide to Cars'! The last three meals Kelly made are bringing get-it-on-the-table inspiration so you can ditch the drive-through. Ham, mac and cheese, and Car Mom broccoli; Chicken Ceasar wraps with Just Bare chicken nuggets, Trader Joe's white rice, and a Caesar salad mix; and Trader Joe's beef kebabs with rice, cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes, feta, lime, red onion, and tzatziki sauce. → To share your ditch the drive-through recipe with us, call (959) CAR-POOL and leave us a message! → Write in your advice questions! Fred is giving middle child energy, so it's a good thing Stumpe baby number four is on the way!!! Kelly took an early blood test to reveal the baby's gender and she's sharing the details on today's episode. She's also thinking about her future ride (of course) and ready to order a baby name book. → What names do you like for Kelly's baby number four? Send your favorites to hello@thecarmomofficial.com Doom scrolling is today's millennial word of the day. If you find yourself looking compulsively for bad news on your feed, you might be guilty of doom scrolling, a habit Kelly and Lizz agree isn't contributing to community building and connection. "If you want to change the world, go home and love your family," is today's fast lane philosophy that Kelly slips in from Mother Theresa. Less butter, no chemicals to give you the ick, absolutely gorgeous—and easier clean up? Say no more. When you're ditching the drive-through, reach for Caraway Homes, non-toxic kitchenware. Their pans are not only healthy, beautiful, and aesthetically pleasing, they also come with the perfect organization system. Over 65,000 people have given Caraway kitchenware five stars. Now it's time to try it for yourself. → Visit carawayhome.com/carpool to get 10% off your next purchase for a limited time. In industry news, the Ford Explorer gets a mid-cycle refresh and ditches their plug in hybrid. Kelly says it's giving Subaru Ascent. And if you were hoping to snag a New York Auto Show tour, Kelly's booked, but you can check out tours with Scotty, who runs A Girl's Guide to Cars. Ashley writes in today's ditch the drive-through recipe, Caprice Chicken. If you're not in first trimester survival mode, this recipe is for you. First, gather your ingredients: thin sliced chicken breasts, cherry tomatoes, mozzarella, basal glaze, fresh basil. Cook the chicken on the stove top in a pan with some olive oil or avocado oil, salt pepper, Italian seasoning, whatever sounds good. Once about halfway through, flip the chicken and throw in some grape or cherry tomatoes. Keep them in long enough for them to start blistering. Once chicken is nearly cooked, cover with slices of mozzarella, so it starts to melt onto the chicken. Once finished, drizzle the balsamic glaze on top and garnish with fresh basil. Serve with a veggie or bagged salad and rice, pasta, or potatoes. → To share your ditch the drive-through recipe with us, call (959) CAR-POOL and leave us a message! → Write in your advice questions! Don't delay your Christmas joy — make your December bucket list with Kelly and Lizz. Kelly's taking outdoor decorating matters into her own hands, Lizz is booked and busy for the holidays, and this weekend the gals are going to see The Entitled Housewife, Becky Robertson, live! → ATTENTION EAST COAST MAMAS! Kelly's giving tours at the New York Auto Show and tickets are now on sale! Grab your tour tickets for Thursday, March 20th at 2:00pm or Thursday, March 28th at 4:30pm. → If you're in New York and headed to the Auto Show, leave the Carpool a review, share what you love about the show, and let Kelly know you'll be attending her tour! Culprit is today's Merriam Webster word of the day. Lizz wants to know where the Daily Mail was when she was covering the Oreos double stuffed scandal. This shrinkflation is all over today's driveway dumps. In base model luxuries, Kelly's got questions. What are you doing without a heating pad in your bed? And what ‘self-car' items do you need to stock your ride with? Kelly and Lizz's favorites are floss picks, mints, wet wipes, hand sanitizer, hand lotion, cuticle cream, hairbrush, deodorant, and chapstick. Christmas movies kick off the gals' December bucket list. For the adults, Feast of the Seven Fishes is a Christmas coded movie that's perfect for the holiday season. Lizz is looking forward to the Suntrup Automotive Christmas Party, an extended family open house, and San Diego in December. Kelly's making homemade chex mix, taking the kids to see holiday lights, making a holiday cocktail, and sharing Tyler's too-effective Santa toy hack. Before you pull the trigger on any of these baby things that, let's be honest, kids use for a few months at the most, make sure you check Goodbye gear. It is the best place to buy second hand baby gear. It's where Kelly's found some of her favorite items like the Baby Brezza and an alphabet rug for her kiddo's room. Shop and sell your open box and unused kid gear, toys, and more on Good Buy Gear. → Head over to goodbuygear.com and get $20 OFF your order of $100 or more with the code CARPOOL. Many are available within 24 hours. A listener writes in for advice about adult gift exchanges, and Kelly and Lizz have the best recommendations: Stanleys, a Home Pura, a gift card to a favorite restaurant, a wireless charger bank, a wireless speaker, or something you genuinely love yourself. Another mom wants to know how she can keep up with her housework? Kelly's nearly drowning, but her daily cleaning strategy and laundry basket system keep her head above water. Today's ditch the drive-through is a fancy spin on a simple favorite. Just place a block of cream cheese or soft cheese in a 9x13 pan, pour two pints of cherry tomatoes over the cheese, drizzle with olive oil, and bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes. While the cheese and tomatoes bake, cook your pasta. Add cooked pasta to your 9x13 and stir to combine. → To share your ditch the drive-through recipe with us, call (959) CAR-POOL and leave us a message! → Write in your advice questions! The upcoming Marine Ball has Lizz ready for a formal affair and Kelly's gearing up for tours at the New York Auto Show (tickets coming soon!). Then it's your chance to head over to the Carpool reviews, shout out your ride, and leave a five star rating and review for Kelly and Lizz! Drippy is today's millennial word of the day and means an outfit that's put together. Lately, Kelly's loving Ettika jewelry from Nordstrom for upgrading her outfits. The gals agree our vocabulary is going down the drain, though, and dive into the word of the day, exigent to get a boost. Marriam Webster's daily podcast is a quick listen to build your own vocab this week! In driveway dumps, the Madewell denim recycling program that gives you $20 off your next pair of jeans when you recycle an old pair is seriously impressive. Kelly encourages us to remember that every day you can be a different person – some days you'll do the most. Yet, you don't have to do that every day. Lizz has nailed sourdough bread even though her track record is a solid example of Pinterest vs. reality. Kelly's getting ready to make yummy snacks and homemade treats for Christmas gifts and Lizz is sharing her favorite upscale, but oh so easy to make, dinner for a Marine Corps birthday. Set your table and make it look darling to elevate your dining experiences this holiday season as an easy base model luxury. Go to the depths of your storage and pull out those fancy dishes you registered for and never use! You've probably seen caraway cookware pop up on your Instagram at some point because their kitchenware is so aesthetically pleasing. The cookware set also comes with the most fantastic organizational system made just for your cookware. → Visit carawayhome.com/carpool to get up to 20% off your next purchase for a limited time. Today's fast lane philosophies are, “Motherhood is only hard for the good moms,” and, “If you don't take risks, you'll end up working for someone who did.” A listener writes in for advice on conflicting holiday celebrations with different sides of the family. Lizz shares her three rules of thumb: communicate with your side of the family, be a united front, and have families choose lunch or dinner to simplify plans. → Write in your icks and ask for advice! Send Kelly and Lizz an email to get your question featured on the show at hello@thecarmomofficial.com In industry news Kelly's going to the New York Auto Show where she'll be giving tours of some fantastic cars (tickets coming soon!) and Edmonds has a used vehicle report for Q3 that's revealing the rate of EV depreciation. Olivia shares her lazy enchiladas for today's ditch the drive-through. Spray your baking pan and fill with frozen taquitos. Bake at 375 for 10 minutes.
