Today, the State Government announced that WA will drop its hard border at 12:01pm, Saturday, 5th February 2022. WA Health Minister, Roger Cook, joined Jo McManus on 6PR Perth Live to speak about the government's plan to make the transition as smooth as possible. "We've made a significant investment, over 2.3 billion dollars into our health system which means we've been able to recruit over 1000 nurses and midwives and another 1200 next year, 500 doctors have joined the system in 2021 and another 350 graduate doctors are starting next year." Cook went on to clarify the costs of the PCR tests, "If you are travelling into WA you'll be required to take a PCR test 72 hours before departure, so you will be required to take on that cost. Once you're in WA you'll be required to have a PCR test 48 hours after you arrive and that test will be free of charge." Apart of the State Governments path forward included the rules around proof of vaccination requirements to attend certain venues. "We've got over a thousand hospitality venues around the state, it will be up to each venue to work out their circumstances under the guidelines that the government is issuing today. What we do know is that if it's a major event or major stadium, where people are fixed and their entry is ticketed that certainly is a trigger." The CEO of Australian Hotels Association WA, Bradley Woods explained to Jo McManus on Perth Live. For people 16 years and over, Proof of Vaccination will be required at Large events (1000+), the big Four Stadiums (Optus, RAC Arena, HBF Stadium, HBF Park), Crown complex and nightclubs and for those 12 years and over, Quarantine-free international travel into WA and Domestic travel into WA.
