Sergio Della Sala"Perché dimentichiamo"Una scienza dell'oblioFeltrinelli Editorewww.feltrinellieditore.itFestival lungo l'Oglio17 giugno 2026, ore 21:00Sergio Della Sala"Perché dimentichiamo. Ascoltare l'oblio"Basilica di San Lorenzo Martire, Verolanuova (Brescia)www.festivallungologlio.itDimentichiamo. Tutti. Sempre. È stato visiting scientist all'Università di Berkeley, California, all'Applied Psychology Unit, Cambridge (UK), e visiting professor all'University of Perth (Australia). In this episode Leo sat down with Rory Shiner, a Bible teacher based in Perth Australia. They discussed evangelism, and particularly how topics such as ghosts and demons can serve as a good intersection between discussions the world wants to have, and the answers Christianity offers. Questions answered in this episode: - What are demons? - Should Christians be afraid of ghosts? - What topics should I discuss in evangelism? This is the VIC 4 VETS, Weekly Honored Veteran. SUBMITTED BY: Allison Schottenhaml Hi Vic & Ken,I am listening everyday to you guys! It was our morning routine since Jerry worked 2nd shift he would get up just as the show was beginning! After high-school Jerry attended 2 years of college and decided he wanted to join the Navy and see the World! In January 1981 he headed off to Navy boot camp in San Diego CA. He was assigned to the USS Wabash as a MM1 machinist mate 1st class & fireman. He was responsible for operating & maintaining ship propulsion, auxiliary & machinery. On April 1, 1981 the Wabash set sail for a 8 month tour! First port stop was Pearl Harbor, then onto Guam, Subic Bay Phillippines, Singapore, the Arabian Sea of the coast of Iran, Diego Garcia, Perth Australia, Mauritius then back the same way to San Francisco. On May 16, 1981 Jerry's 21st birthday they crossed the International Date Line celebrated his birthday twice! As the Wabash steamed crossed the Date Line into the South China Sea they embarked on a wooden rickety boat carrying 150 Vietnamese refugees, mostly children. They brought all the refugees on board the Wabash provided them with medical care, clean clothes, food and comfort. Then they sank the refugee boat! The Wabash was among the first Navy ships to rescue Vietnamese Refugees and was part of the first battle group sent to the Arabian Sea in support of hostages in Iran.Jerry was awarded with a Humanitarian Service Award, Navy Expeditionary medal, National Defense Service medal & Navy "E" Ribbon an award given to sailors that win an annual Battle efficiency competition signifing excellence in reddines & performance. After 3 years of service Jerry returned home he decided he wanted to be a machinist in the military aerospace industry, he said he felt that he could still contribute to the safety of our great country & still support his brothers in arms! Which he did with pride! The weekend of December 19th Jerry was working security with the Washington Guard at a gun show under the command of Colonel Joe Adams when he starting feeling sick to his stomach. We celebrated Christmas at our home with our family! On December 28th I took him to the ER as he was getting worse though he had the flu. After MRI, CT scan and blood worked they found a tumor on his pancreas, spots on his liver & kidney they said it was cancer. At first they said with chemo 11-12 months, the 4 days later they said it was to aggressive he was to weak to take chemo then 3 days later after watching him decline daily in horrible pain they said a couple of weeks on the evening of 1/11/26 Jerry passed away and is no longer suffering! I am trying to wrap my brain around the fact that my soul mate for almost 39 years whom I never seen sick or in pain could get a stomach ache and be gone in 4 weeks! He was my hero & rock and will forever live on in my heart! Thank God I have a wonderful supportive family, my Washington Guard family & my NewsTalkSTL family who I could not get through this without! I would also like to thank Jessica Porcelli for her guidance through this she is an angel with her experience as a hospice nurse she has given me much peace in this process! Thanks to the Washington Guard as they say become a member and you are never alone and they have proven that! Thank you for my NewsTalkSTL family for everyones prayers & thoughts they mean so much & are greatly appreciated! Most of all thank you to my great family especially our grandchildren John & Lily Schottenhaml who was the pride & joy of Jerry's life! ________________________________________________________________ This Week’s VIC 4 VETS, Honored Veteran on NewsTalkSTL.With support from our friends at:Alamo Military Collectables, Monical’s Pizza and Gemini Wealth GroupSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Despite stable interest rates, rental pressures remain unchanged across Australia especially in capital cities, households still have to spend almost a third of their income paying for a place to live. - Meskipun suku bunga stabil, tekanan sewa tetap tidak berubah di seluruh Australia terutama di ibu kota, rumah tangga masih harus menghabiskan hampir sepertiga pendapatan mereka untuk membayar tempat tinggal.
WWE's Crown Jewel PLE is in the books– and we actually think that Perth Australia got a pretty solid show!Hal, Danielle and Julian discuss what they think worked: Roman continuing his drama with the Bloodline was really compelling and something that we missed a lot; John Cena and AJ Styles had a great match acknowledging their collective decades of wrestling; and Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes proved that they can deliver a main event on any given night. But now there's word that Seth is injured, a story that was seemingly backed up by the Vision turning on him. What does this mean for the World Heavyweight Championship? There's a lot to discuss! The Main EventFor years, Alicia Fox was an unsung and underappreciated hero of the WWE. These days she wrestles for TNA under the name Victoria Crawford. And because NXT and TNA are cozier than ever, the foxy one revealed that she's on her way back to a WWE ring soon. The Dutch set up a supply colony for the sailors of the Dutch East India Company. This was in the mid-1600's, and they soon started producing wine. Some of the areas have very warm climates, similar to Sydney or Perth Australia, but can also cool significantly due to elevation or ocean breezes. South Africa also has a unique feature known as the “Cape Doctor”, which is a gale-force summer south-easter wind that reduces humidity, mildew, and other fungal diseases. However, it can also damage the vines. The wine areas are divided into Regions, then split into Districts, and further into Wards. Specific site location has been less important in labeling, and the emphasis has been on variety (called cultivar). Chenin Blanc is the most planted wine grape accounting for about 18% of all plantings. Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah (called Shiraz in South Africa) are both around 10%. South Africa has a unique red wine called Pinotage (cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsaut). It has remained around 7% of plantings.“The Oxford Companion to Wine” calls Chenin Blanc one of the most versatile wine grape varieties. It can produce wines that are sweet, dry, crisp, heavier oaked wines, and fortified wines. It is a half-sibling to both Verdelho and Sauvignon Blanc. Like these grapes, it has good acidity. It is known for its capability to produce high vineyard yields, which can result in a less desirable wine. Tonight, we are enjoying two white wines including:2023 Lubanzi Wines Chenin Blanc. This wine was purchased at Wall to Wall Wines for $16.00. The bottle says it is a certified climate neutral wine and “1% for the planet”, and “Fair For Life Fair Trade Certified” means workers have good and fair working conditions. Vintage Wine Shop says Aromas of wild honey and apple pie. Can sip by itself or enjoy with spicy foods. Comes from the Swartland region. It has 12.5% alcohol. 2021 Domaine Lafage Centenaire. I purchased online for around $16.00. Blend of 60% White Grenache (Grenache Blanc), 20% Grey Grenache (Grenache Gris), and 20% Roussanne. Cuvee Centenaire Cotes Catalanes, Indication Geographique Protegee. Takes its name from 100-year-old vines of Grenache Blanc on the Lafage farms only a few kilometers from the Mediterranean on gravelly clay soils. The grapes are harvested in two passes through the vineyard. The first time through, grapes are picked as they first reach ripeness with high acidity. The second pass harvests grapes that are fully ripe and have more rich fruit flavors. The wine is then aged in a combination of tank and new French oak barrels. It has 13.0% alcohol.Next week we will stay in South Africa and taste a Shiraz and a red blend.
Katie works as a full time musician in and around Perth Australia. This makes an interesting experience living in an alcohol free life, however it often reinforces the reasons why she doesn't want to drink watching others slowly get inebriated regularly. Playing music in pubs and restaurants hits home hard about the hard sell society puts on promoting people to drink alcohol every time they go out. Ultimately there is zero wish to ‘join in' anymore. Maybe have been there in early sobriety but after 2.5 years there is no wish to be drinking alcohol along with the masses. She called herself a chronic moderator... able to limit herself but never free from alcohol. Now in sobriety she embraces the moniker of being a Sober Rebel and breaking free of years of conditioning that alcohol is necessary to have fun.About Louisa:Louisa is a therapist based in the UK but she also works worldwide via zoom so if you'd like to find out more about working with her 1-2-1 to support you in sobriety or with any other areas such as anxiety, low mood or overthinking then head to www.louisaevans.com.Useful links:Instagram: @stepping_into_sobriety - for daily sober encouragementSubstack: Beyond Sobriety.- weekly articles, relaxation downloads and community, focussed on thriving in a sober life.Audible: Becoming a Sober Rebel - audiobook on how Louisa stepped into sobriety on her own terms.Don't forget, as a Sober Rebel listener, you can get a 30% discount off the Sober Resilience Online Course using code RESILIENCE544 and you will also be able to buy one get one free on all hypnosis recordings on Louisa's website using code SOBERREBEL. "Sustainability isn't just about the environment — it's also about people, programs, and practice. And when it comes to Instructional Coaching Done Well, sustainability can often be the difference between a coaching culture that thrives… and one that quietly fades away." This is the final episode of our special Instructional Coaching Done Well mini-series, where we're diving deep into what makes Instructional Coaching truly work in schools. In this conversation we're talking about something that doesn't always get the attention it deserves — sustainability. Inspired by Jim Knight's book Evaluating Instructional Coaching, this episode is all about what it takes to build coaching programs that last — coaching that's not a passing trend, but part of the fabric of school life. To help us unpack all of this, in this episode I'm joined by two brilliant guests: Mileva Tubbs — founder of the Instructional Coaching Collective, who's been at the heart of supporting coaches in a network of schools in Perth Australia and Av Swami — Senior Consultant with Growth Coaching International, who brings a wealth of experience in helping schools embed a coaching culture. Together, we'll explore why sustainability often gets overlooked, the key role leadership plays, how to set coaches up for success and how schools can create the conditions for instructional coaching to flourish long-term.

Watching polar bear mums and cubs emerge from their winter densPolar Bear mothers spend the winter in warm and cozy dens, gestating and then birthing their cubs, and right about now the baby bears are taking their first steps out of the dens and beginning to explore the real world. Using satellite collars and remote camera technology, researchers from Polar Bears International, the Norwegian Polar Institute, and the San Diego Wildlife alliance, now have an exciting new picture of how and when they leave their winter refuges. The team included Louise Archer, Polar Bears International Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto Scarborough, and their observations were published in The Journal of Wildlife Management.Lousy sleep? It's quality, not quantity that may be your problemResearchers from the University of Toronto Mississauga have compared sleep in modern, industrial societies with non-industrialised societies, such as remote tribes in Tanzania and the Amazon. The team, led by anthropologist David Samson, found that people in modern societies sleep for significantly longer, but have weaker natural circadian rhythms, and so their sleep is not as functional as it should be. The researchers say that could be because people in industrial societies have lost touch with cues that regulate our circadian rhythms, like light and temperature changes. The results were published in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B.Greenhouse gases are messing up low-earth orbit for satellitesWhile greenhouse gases are warming the Earth's surface, they're paradoxically cooling the upper atmosphere, causing it to contract. And this means trouble for low-earth orbit as space junk and defunct satellites are not running into the tenuous atmosphere and falling out of orbit as fast as they used to. This is making low earth orbit more crowded, and more dangerous. William Parker, a PhD candidate at MIT, led this research, which was published in the journal Nature Sustainability.A 3.5 billion year old crater in Australia is telling the story of the early EarthResearchers have discovered shattered rock in an area of rolling hills in Western Australia that they think is evidence of an enormous and ancient asteroid impact. This would be the oldest evidence of an impact crater preserved on Earth, and could tell us about how the surface of our planet was formed, and even how the conditions for life were created. Chris Kirkland, a professor of Geology at Curtain University in Perth Australia, was co-lead on this research with Dr. Tim Johnson. Their work was published in the journal Nature Communications.Beyond long COVID — how reinfections could be causing silent long term organ damageIt's now been five years since the COVID pandemic stopped the world in its tracks. The virus is still with us, and continues to make people sick. As many as 1 in 5 Canadians have experienced symptoms of long COVID, but scientists are finding that beyond that, each infection can also lead to long term silent cellular and organ damage. David Putrino, who's been studying COVID's long term effects at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City, says even mild or asymptomatic COVID infections can lead to a wide range of silent long term heath impacts — compromising our immune, vascular, circulatory, renal, metabolic, gastrointestinal systems and even cognitive function.
Hello to you listening in Perth, Australia!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga. Recently I read a blog post by my friend and colleague Leanne Gordon. Leanne's Drip by Drop blog posts are designed to be “A daily dose of thinking helping you to make change happen in your work and life.” Joy In The Making caught my ear. In brief the idea is that we often arrive at the end of something and wonder why it took us so long to get there. Or, we listen to others who chide us for taking so long. I remember a galpal who moved away a few years before I did. She said, “When you finally move you'll wonder what took you so long.” Not!What we're forgetting here is the process of our productivity. Making the journey gets us to the destination. As Leanne writes: “The meaning and joy is in the making.”Story Prompt: I imagine you are making something. What is the joy you are taking in the making? Write that story! Practical Tip: The magic of stories is also in the sharing. If you wish share your story with someone or something. All that matters is you have a story. You're invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, I hope you'll subscribe, follow, share a 5-star rating and nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time! Send us a textWelcome to Th Agegroup Multisport PodcastOn this Episode we speak to Gemma Berry, She reached out and said she would like to share her story. Gemma says"'I Grew up in Perth (Australia) in a sporty family - especially a very successful Mum. Hockey, swimming, gymnastics, trampolining, surf lifesaving....After high school got into powerlifting, then about 2003 running - could only run 1km!Fast forward a few years, moved to Melbourne, Australia and new friends were into tris - I resisted as I hated the cycling. But did a few events in a team. Did my first solo tri in 2008, loved it, then had kids in 2011, 2013. Finally got back into the sport in 2015, slowly progressed my way thru the age group.Younger son was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2018, so tris took a back seat - but I ran and ran and ran (helped me deal with it emotionally). Ran my first marathon in 2019 as a fundraiser for pediatric brain cancer, then got back into tris. Done a few 70.3s - went to Taupo WC in Dec 2024, now hoping to qualify for Woolongong AG Champs in Oct this year. We are coming at you with our very first live episode from Perth, Australia! Here at the 2024 Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists Annual Scientific Conference and Exhibition, occupational hazards and exposures get top billing. And one of the most ubiquitous hazards, experienced by nearly every industry is fatigue, specifically fatigue caused by circadian rhythm disruption. In this very special episode, we explore how our circadian rhythms work and some of the consequences that can emerge when we work against those rhythms, whether that's because we're traveling across many time zones or switching to night shift work. We then dig into the history of circadian rhythm research, from how we first learned about these daily patterns to when their disruption became a routine occurrence. Helping us to navigate some of the alarmist headlines (“your screens are ruining your sleep!”) and biohacker claims (“avoid jet lag with this one simple trick!”) is Ian Dunican, PhD. Dr. Dunican is the Director and Chief Adviser of Melius Consulting, a scientific consultancy undertaking research, consulting, and education, and he also hosts and produces the Sleep4Performance podcast. We also bring on Dr. John Iliff, Emergency Physician and Aeromedical Consultant to share his frightening experience with fatigue after a long shift during his training as a physician. Guy Wilson‘s remarkable memory and extensive records take us back to the south of England, in early days of the 1960s as Big Jim Taylor groped his way through the sisterhood to his nemesis at Aberdeen. With close family ties to the Taylors in New York, Guy can give the story from both sides of the Atlantic, as well as all manner of interesting and sometimes scandalous details about his former brethren in Canterbury and elsewhere. Guy is not shy of dropping names, and Theo Deacon, Geoff, Alan, Keith and Clive Groombridge, David Worsley, Struan and Moira Kerr, Stuart Clark and Peter Bedford all come in for a mention. Most intriguing of all, Guy shares some stories about Alan Clarkson, formerly of Perth Australia, and now from The Hague. Alan may have a few matters to clear, come the weekend. Finally, Guy has supplied extensive files of interesting letters from that time, which we are sharing in a folder that is linked below. Days 36 & 37 of my Around the World Ride: I rode 52 miles (84 km) from Gori to Tbilisi, Georgia. Day 37 was spent traveling to Australia: a 3-hour flight from Tbilisi to Dubai, a 7-hour layover in Dubai and an 11-hour flight to Perth, Australia.
GOOD EVENING: The show begins at the Federal Reserve, waiting for the governors to recognize that the economy is slowing quickly, that the two-tier economy means the least among us are struggling. To France, to Germany, to Brussels and the EU debate. To the South China Sea. To Gaza and Lebanon and the "War of the North". To South Africa, to Peru, to Perth Australia, Delhi India, Sudan, Burkina Faso, Sudan, Ethiopia. 1942 Solomon Islands
The Indian Pacific is one of the famous and costliest train journeys in the world travelling 2,700 miles (4,352 kilometres) between Sydney and Perth Australia. So, I had very high expectations, but before we even got on board, I started to have concerns as things were going wrong which would have been fine if it was just me and my partner travelling, but we had booked two cabins in the premium Platinum class carriages to take my mother-in-law on a special once-in-a-lifetime trip for her 80th birthday. Adding even more pressure for this to be perfect. Join me as I share our experience on this famous train over the 3 nights and 4 days it takes, and if I thought it was worth it all by the end.
