Something small and bright caught my eye. Stopping mid-stride and mid-conversation, I bent down to look at a small jumble of legs and exoskeletons in the tread of the Ice Age Trail. The yellow mantle behind the head of a black carrion beetle is what I'd noticed first. They are quite striking, even when rooting around in the decaying flesh of a recently dead animal, looking for a place to lay their eggs. The adults eat dead stuff, too, hence the bear hug this one was giving a shiny brown, but unmoving, carcass of a Junebug.

Author of one of my top reads of the year, June Bug, Chris Fabry is also the novelist for the Kendrick Brothers' beloved movies including the most recent, The Forge. Listen in as we discuss the story and the process of writing from a screenplay! note: links may be affiliate links that provide me with a small commission at no extra expense to you.   Chis Fabry, author of so many beloved novels and the podcaster behind Moody's Chris Fabry Live, has teamed up with the Kendrick Brothers again to bring the book version of the story to readers.  I loved chatting about the themes within the book, the process of writing it, and what we might see in the future.    The Forge by Chris Fabry  As Cynthia Wright's marriage implodes, she is forced to raise her teenage son, Isaiah, alone. The pressure of providing for them through her salon is a full-time job in itself. When Cynthia sees Isaiah pulling away and escaping into video games, tensions rise and prayers feel unanswered. Angry and hurt, Isaiah starts acting like the father who abandoned him, and Cynthia gives him an ultimatum while turning to her twin sister, Elizabeth Jordan, for support. Elizabeth enlists a seasoned prayer warrior who challenges Cynthia to pray boldly and believe God for the impossible. Caught in the middle, Isaiah longs for respect, but sees no clear path to becoming a good man. Desperate for a job, he wanders into Moore Fitness, Inc. and encounters the owner, Joshua Moore, who introduces him to the concept of working for a coach rather than a boss. Needing the work, Isaiah reluctantly begins his mentoring process with Joshua. While Cynthia clings to hope, no one sees the coming storms brewing at the company and in Isaiah's heart. The Forge is about the power of prayer, the transformation only God can achieve, and the lasting influence one person can have on others. The film was directed by David Weaver. With 45 directing credits David has kept busy working with Hallmark. A few highlights include "Christmas Island" and "Lights, Camera, Christmas!" Autumn has 81 acting credits and this is the first time we've seen her on Hallmark since the final installment of "The Wedding Veil" in early 2023! She will be making an appearance at the Hallmark Christmas Experience this holiday season.  Aaron O'Connell plays Alex. Aaron has 18 acting credits and previous appeared in "With Love, Christmas," "My Christmas Love," and "12 Gifts of Christmas" for Hallmark.  Mila Jones plays young Junebug. Since then she has appeared in 4 additional Hallmark movies to round out her 41 acting credits. Alex, who becomes a significant part of Juniper's journey, perfectly captures the essence of a supportive and understanding partner. Alex recognizes Juniper's true self and supports her in embracing her inner child. Little Junebug (Mila Jones) We were split on our opinion of Mila Jones, portraying the young Juniper, adds a layer of innocence and charm to the film. While her character can be seen as precocious at times, she does a commendable job of embodying the spirit and curiosity of a young child. A Message We Can Relate To! Phil and Josh are back to discuss a busy weekend in motorsports on the GSP. William Power led a Penske sweep of the podium at Road America.  Strategy played a big part in the results of the day along with a major wreck at the start of the race, taking out polesitter Linus Lundqvist and Colton Herta. In off-track news, Augustin Canapino's fanbase continues to show the worst in social media.  In turn, he gets benched for Nolan Siegel and that could possibly mean more than just one race. The guys look at all of this and the points heading to Laguna Seca. NASCAR Cup and XFinity raced at Snoreoma for Faux's last race of 2024. Kyle Larson was the dominant presence and earned another road course victory with better tires at the end.  Martin Truex, Jr. is left wondering when that win will come but earned solid points. Some destruction took place because they brought stage breaks back, but the final stage was pretty tame. For all of the XFinity teams, Shane Van Gisbergen is definitely making things difficult on road courses with his supreme talent.  His restart move on Bobby Hill allowed the Kiwi to win two consecutive races and solidify his spot in the XFinity playoffs.  However, the post race celebration may have been one of the greatest things ever.   Fish Lips won the Canadian Grand Prix but it wasn't a straightforward event with the emergence of Lando Norris continuing to cause the one car trouble. Woody Russell rounded out the podium after starting on pole.  Sir Lewis Hamilton's last year in silver and black continues to confound many with all of the issues he's facing on his side of the garage.  His future employer definitely had a weekend to forget. The GSP Roundup covers Indy NXT, NHRA, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, V8 Supercars and WSBK before Phil and Josh preview the NBC opener at Iowa Speedway.  They provide their thoughts of no Junebug on the broadcasts but the fact that NBC actually tries.  Also, they discuss the paving of two grooves in the turns and if that will cause one-groove racing.  Both make their picks for the Cup and XFinity races before Josh's Sim Segment and Show Close.

CHICKEN ON A JUNE BUG Pr. 6:6-9#RTTBROS #Nightlight   Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:  7 Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, 8 Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest. Pr. 6:6-9 In the old days, folks had a saying for just about every situation, and one that always stuck with me is "Jump on something like a chicken on a June bug." Now, you might be wondering what in the world that means, but bear with me, and I'll explain. You see, when a chicken spots a juicy June bug, it doesn't just sit there and wait for someone else to come along and catch it. No sir! That chicken jumps into action, chasing down that bug with all the enthusiasm and determination it can muster. It knows that if it wants to enjoy the tasty treat, it has to act fast and get the job done. The same principle applies to our lives, especially when it comes to taking care of our homes. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 31:27, "She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness." This verse reminds us that it's our responsibility to tend to the tasks and chores that keep our homes running smoothly. When we see something that needs doing around the house, whether it's fixing a leaky faucet, mowing the lawn, or cleaning out the gutters, we shouldn't wait for someone else to take care of it. We should jump on it like a chicken on a June bug, tackling the task with energy and resolve. By taking initiative and being proactive in our household duties, we demonstrate our love and care for the home God has blessed us with. We also set a positive example for our family members, showing them the value of hard work and responsibility. So, the next time you spot a chore that needs tending to, remember the old saying and jump on it like a chicken on a June bug. Your home will thank you, and you'll be living out the wisdom of Proverbs 31:27. https://linktr.ee/rttbros   Be sure to Like, Share, Follow and subscribe it helps get the word out. https://linktr.ee/rttbros

On today's episode, I talk to musician and actor Will Oldham. Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, Will was an actor before becoming a musician, appearing in John Sayles' Matewan as a teenager, as well as in films like Old Joy, Junebug and The Guatemalan Handshake, as well as TV shows like Wonder Showzen. In the early '90s, he began playing music as Palace - or more accurately, as different permutations of the name Palace - but a few years later, adopted the Bonnie "Prince" Billy moniker which he's used ever since his 1999 album I See a Darkness. In the last two plus decades, he's released almost two dozen albums, some collaborations with artists like Bill Callahan and Matt Sweeney, and his latest Keeping Secrets Will Destroy You was just released in August on Drag City, and like everything else Will does, it's fantastic! We had the pleasure of interviewing Fencer over Zoom video! The Los Angeles based rock trio, Fencer, has released their long awaited self-titled debut album, via Blood Blast Distribution. This marks the band's first self-produced release, composed of 10-tracks and what is considered to be their most authentic work yet.Speaking on the album release, vocalist Field Cate shares:"Very excited to finally have our first album out in the world. We've worked really hard on this and feel it's the most accurate representation of what we're all about, proud to have it as the first full length release in our discography."Not only was their debut album self-produced, but it was mixed by Henry Lunetta (5 Seconds Of Summer, State Champs, Grayscale) and mastered by Zach Fisher (Weezer, Rancid, Bad Religion). Prior to today's release, Fencer had previously dropped tracks "Junebug", "Sanitarium", and "Joseph Courtney" which had racked up over 1.5 million listens across all streaming platforms.Keep an eye out for more Fencer news coming soon.ABOUT FENCERFencer, the self-defined garage opera band, is leading a new era of rock music with their own undeniably, dynamic sound. The Los Angeles-based trio consists of vocalist and guitarist Field Cate, bassist Scott Sauve, and drummer Cameron Sauve. Only two years after their inception, they became fan-favorite openers for notable acts such as Badflower, The Wrecks, and Dead Poet Society. Tackling the stigma surrounding mental health and its struggles, Field's emotive and frenetic vulnerability resonates with listeners to further solidify the band's electric presence. The trio have racked up an impressive 1.5 million listens across all streaming platforms, despite having not even released their debut album.
