This week we're joined by returning guest Arielle Gordon. Arielle is a writer with bylines at Pitchfork, Stereogum, Bandcamp, and more. We discuss the latest Machine Gun Kelly album and look at the state of the "pop-punk revival." Plus, reviews of new albums by Father John Misty and Wet Leg.
Before MACHINE GUN KELLY would confirm his new relationship with actress Megan Fox in an Instagram Story featuring Love and Sushi Before Machine Gun Kelly would engage in a historic rap battle feud with his former idol Eminem... Before he would drop his new track bloody valentine.Just a couple of years ago a lot of people would have counted Machine Gun Kelly as on the way out. He got in the industry as the old guard were losing their grasp on the internet and new up-and-comers were making big moves via the internet. In his, Rap Devil diss track he picked his side as a member of the rumble rap generation and bagged a few high profile baddies reminding us he's enjoying the perks of his newfound fame. From his humble beginnings in Cleveland to selling out venues across the U.S. and creating four top-ten billboard albums, MGK has blazed a path for himself in the world of hip-hop but he's always worn his rock influences right on his sleeve. His live shows often feel more like a rock show than a hip-hop showcase with obligatory mosh-pits and a full band performing on stage. He even recently portrayed drummer Tommy Lee in the Netflix film “The Dirt” about rock band Motley Crue. Do you know many other rappers with alternative music cred like that? I don't. How did a man who was battling drug addiction by the age of 20 with a dead-end job at Chipotle and a child on the way manage to find himself about to re-invent an entire genre of music? Find out more in his Before They Were Famous video for 2020.
Nick Cannon & Crew Vs. Eminem. It's the 2019 Rap Beef that no one asked for, literally not one single person. #RIPNickCannon started to trend following the release of his first diss track The Invitation followed by his second diss track Pray For Him. Eminem is still dusting off the praise he was awarded from his Kill Shot response in retaliation to Machine Gun Kelly's Rap Devil. To be fair, I think MGK secretly won that battle. Or at least pushed things forward for the younger generation. But this new rap beef just came out of nowhere... and it looks like it was actually Em who started it with his verse on Fat Joe's track Lord Above. The beef between Eminem and Nick Cannon dates back to 2008 when Nick and Mariah Carey got married. Em had briefly dated Mariah way back in 2001 today we talk about the history of their beef and compare it with the verse.

The power of audio started with radio, commercial jingles and the record business. But we don’t listen to, buy, share or promote records the same way we once did. The music industry is prime for disruption by the very artist that supports it now. The system was always rigged against musicians in favor of the record companies. It’s time the artist took it back. The latest advances in recording technology, mobile devices, digital storage and social media promotion are flipping the music business model. The cost of production, distribution, audience development and cross-promotional opportunities can pay off big for artists willing to take the chance and operate in a new way. You don’t need a record deal to get attention today. You don’t need a label to get on radio or TV. You don’t need traditional radio or TV to build a fan base. You don’t need to be Beyoncé to be super successful. You can control the cost, the price for fans, the profit and the artistry if your willing to take a long-term business approach to brand-building your music career. So let’s talk about it. (Rap Devil pun intended). On each episode of the #NeoMarketing podcast, The Golding Group partners Pritch Pritchard, APR and Kyle Golding briefly (15-20 mins.) discuss best practices, latest trends and modern techniques for professional business communications including advertising, marketing, digital channels, social media, public relations and alternative options. The guys then switch gears and give their thoughts about the sexual assault allegations brought forth against Supreme Court Nominee Brett Kavanaugh by Christine Blasey Ford. The guys then break down a video released by Harvey Weinstein accuser, Melissa Thompson, that shows Weinstein hugging, touching and sexually flirting with her while her laptop records it all. The conversation switches gear and the guys talk about the "Serial Killer" Border Patrol supervisor, Juan David Ortiz, 35, accused of killing four Texas women. Next, the guys talk about the dating scene and whether or not it should raise a red flag if the woman you're dating has a long list of past sexual partners. Finally, the guys end on a fun note and share what conspiracy theories they find the most interesting and believable.

Eminem drops a surprise album Kamikaze and takes aim at everyone. While we speculate if Joe Budden will respond, Machine Gun Kelly didn’t waste time firing back at Marshall Mathers. Kanye returns to Chicago, talks missing friends, radio politics, TMZ, and Drake. Plus Cardi in the news, DJ Khaled new venture and more.

8 months after Busby completely sh*t on “Revival,” Slim Shady decided to shock the world by dropping his surprise album, “Kamikaze,” which left Busby quite pleased. J.C.'s girlfriend, Larissa, re-joins the iLLogical gang for an in-depth discussion about Em's surprising and controversial album, his career up to this point, as well as their opinions about MGK's response “Rap Devil." The crew also talk about the likelihood of Joe Budden responding to Em in the booth, ignoring Nicki Minaj's antics, Kanye's mental illness, Aretha Franklin's funeral, Tory Lanez finessing club promoters in The Bay, and much more. Among the sports talk, J.C. breaks down how Jon Gruden completely gutted the Raiders team after trading Khalil Mack, how Kaepernick is beating the NFL in more ways than one and LeBron James's new HBO show, “The Shop.” Other music reviews this week include Lloyd's “TRU LP,” Blac Youngsta's “F*ck Everybody 2,” Bun B's “Return Of The Trill,” and Childish Gambino's animated music video for “Feels Like Summer.”
Cleveland rapper Machine Gun Kelly responds to the Rap God with "Rap Devil". After Eminem's surprise album Kamikaze featured a song (Not Alike featuring Royce da 5'9") in which he took shots at MGK, a response was in order and K. Cartoon and Rx Phonics of Hanging With Apes have a lot to say about it. Is this the hardest Eminem diss ever? Will Eminem respond? Finally does this have the makings of one of the greatest beefs in Rap?
