He is best known as "Elvin Tibideaux" from the hit TV series "The Cosby Show" which ran from 1984-1982. Since then, he has an iconic and eclectic career on stage, film, TV and more. His filmography is massive, and he has no plans on stopping. We discuss his early success and fame, raising a family, his career, some advice given early, hobbies, and much more. I think it’s fair to say that artist are an emotional bunch in general. We feel things deeply and react with conviction. And that goes for the wonderful and exciting emotions but also goes for the heavy and worrisome emotions as well. During our season break, we wanted to share with you one of the more inspirational interviews from season four. We love this episode where actor/director, Geoffrey Owens breaks down his meteoric rise to fame as an actor on The Cosby Show, and his subsequent decision to work at Trader Joe's to support his family. This is one fan-favorite you will listen to over and over again. Picture being an unknown actor in New York City and then a chance encounter between your mother and casting agent results in you being selected for a role on the biggest television show in the history of Nielsen ratings. A move which catapults you from being an anonymous member of a theater group to someone who can no longer go to the grocery store without being mobbed. When Geoffrey Owens, actor, director, producer, was cast on The Cosby Show at age 24, it seemed to the the world that he would live the rest of his life in the luxurious celebrity style that we all knew and coveted. But what if one day, after the fame and money ran low, you had to take a day job, one that would help pay the bills and allow you to continue to pursue the craft you really loved: Theater. Would you bag groceries at Trader Joes, and risk being job shamed? Or would you let debt pile up and let go of the theater life you loved so much, wishing you could go back to being anonymous again? The buzz: “56 cents of every dollar spent in a store is influenced by a consumer's digital interaction with the product over multiple connected devices.” (deloitte.wsj.com/cmo/2017/01/26/2017-consumer-products-outlook). Consumer Product (CP) companies are being forced to rethink channel partner relationships, product mix and pricing strategies. Why? Because of business-as-usual disruption by eCommerce giants like Amazon, direct-to-consumer subscriptions, and expanded retail private label lines. How can CP companies use data to bolster their brands and strengthen consumer loyalty? The experts speak. The crew gets back together again to discuss the week that was. From the Bobby Brown story to the Cardi B vs. Nicki beef, and comments on Eminem's new album Kamikaze. We also give our views on social media and how it can be used as a tool to spread positive or negativity to those consuming it. It was a weekend full of stories from the sports and entertainment world, and although we didn't have the time to get into all, we definitely covered the highlights. We couldn't end the podcast without remembering a few people that passed and had to pay our respects to the fallen in Aretha Franklin, Mac Miller, and Botham Jean. Rest in Power. Listen to the QUAD on IHeart, Spreaker, Spotify, and wherever you listen to Podcasts. Rock with the Quad, and get in touch!
In Episode 13, we chat about the change (of a previous change) to the Oscars, the newly named star of the upcoming 23rd season of The Bachelor, our reactions to the Geoffrey Owens story, Younger drama, Burt Reynolds passing away (and the INCREDIBLE roles he turned down in his career) and Anna Kendrick's lie to get out of hanging out with friends on her birthday (could she be any more relatable?) For our Marquee Topic, we are podcasting this week about podcasts (how meta). We give a little history on the medium, some fun stats, the effect of podcasts on pop culture since they began as "audio blogs" in 2003 and some of our favorite shows to listen to that you might like as well. PLUS, in our teasers this week, Josh recommends an excellent biography on one of the greatest athletes of all time and Maureen suggests checking out what your local library might have to offer beyond books. Former Cosby Show actor Geoffrey Owens who played Irwin in the sitcom, was spotted by someone who snapped a photo of him working in Trader Joe's and posted it online only to go viral on social media and it wasn't taken all that good by those of us that are also hard working people who possess a modicum of decency and common sense. But there were plenty of individuals who attempted to job shame Mr. Owens from behind the comfort and anonymity of their keyboards. The funny thing is that I feel the majority of those who attempted to shame Geoffrey Owens would never have the exemplery character traits to work in a very public position that most would consider "below them!" But the fact of the matter is that ALL work is edifying and noble, no matter WHAT the position or task, because here we have a Black man who never hesitated to do what was necessary to keep the food on his family's table and the bills paid. How many Black men does Hollywood showcase such as Geoffrey Owens? He's a straight Black family man who has no drama, arrest record, history of neglecting his children or wearing a dress! So since he doesn't fit the profile of what the so called entertainment industry continually seeks to push down the throats of the public, he just won't get the work that so many others who are willing to compromise will. Geoffrey Owens is a well trained actor who background and training is so far vast over any flash in the pan rapper turned actor could ever shake a stick to. This is truly the Twilight Zone that we're living in and by the way things appear it's only going to get worse! Hang in there Geoffrey and thank you for being a fine example of Black manhood that the world needs to see more of! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/lancescurv/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lancescurv/support

In today's Podcast we discuss the recent news about former Cosby Show actor Geoffrey Owens and the recent backlash he received when a picture of him looking less than favorable as a cashier at Trader Joes went viral. I go on a bit of rant about why it makes no sense to criticise a person doing what they got to do. Have you have ever been "shamed" for your side hustle? email or comment on how you dealt with that and Enjoy! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/theearlylife/support
