Women’s bodies are a battleground for beauty capitalism with a constant pressure to reach unachievable beauty standards. Writer, presenter and entertainer Lucinda Price (aka Froomes) spent 30 years striving to fulfil those standards, which she unpacks in her debut memoir, All I Ever Wanted Was To Be Hot: Self image, beauty ideals and desirability. Nutritionist and lecturer Rebecca Reynolds teamed up with mental health author Bev Aisbett to write Beyond the Body Bully: How to love the body you’re in to improve the way we think about our bodies. And writer and researcher Chloe Elisabeth Wilson satirises the cult-like world of beauty by turning it into a real cult in her debut novel Rytual. Lucinda, Rebecca and Chloe discuss how they are helping to rewrite women’s relationships with beauty and their bodies, in conversation with Yumi Stynes. This event was presented by the Sydney Writers' Festival and supported by UNSW Sydney. Please be aware this podcast discusses eating disorders and body image issues which may be distressing for some people. My Allana Pratt Method Coach, Kristina, has been speaking of Rebecca for years. I am super stoked I followed through and interviewed this brilliant, embodied, and inspiring woman! Rebecca gets Change! It's like she's another facet of the same Diamond I am, one that we shine a congruent, complementary light on embracing change and an aligned feeling of breathtaking honor to walk with someone through the cycle of change. She helped me turn some unconscious competences into competent competences. I'm so grateful! In this conversation that I would have been happy to have gone on for over 5 hours (which is definitely going to happen when I get my ass to Santa Fe and meet her), we also discussed... - How my superpower is definitely supporting people in what she calls the Liminal stage of change, when you step into the unknown and face uncertainty, when you feel uncomfortable and often avoid feelings, when you leave what's no longer working and take the leap - How she's helping us to redefine change not as something bad, but something that could even be joyous when we no longer resist this natural process we were born to embrace and designed to experience - How we both get the body is the key! To trust the body! Listen to the body! That God is our body! Oh my God, I literally come out of my skin into Oneness with all when we talk about this! And how we love to dance, it's a portal to such wisdom :-) - How our personal client stories are teaching moments of our own personal evolution and expansion of our Mastery over decades of on-court learning and discovery - How what she calls the 'I know' mind can block the wisdom of the body and the ability for the Divine to guide our way, that we all outgrow things, be it a job, a relationship, and even our thoughts - How deeply we love and honor our clients, understanding their cynicism or blame is really a protection on top of deep fear and hopelessness, that they just can't stand the possibility of being hurt or let down again - How her book explains not just the process of change but questions you can ask at each section and acknowledgments you can make, revealing the beauty and necessity of each stage to not stay stuck, bypass, or keep looping - Her outstanding ability to go into triggered situations, not take things personally, hear Spirit pouring through her, and be the safe space for a client, company or organization to evolve - Her wisdom to watch the energy of a space that, once they've gone through the intense stages of change, as they relax, laughter erupts, joy can be effervescent, and that we can all make it through change, especially when we do it together Please get her book, Thresholds of Change: The Way through Transformational Times. https://www.rebeccaborlandreynolds.com/thresholds-of-change1 You will find yourself in the pages and be able to embrace the changes in your life more elegantly, potently, and authentically to embrace the next amazing version of you. ➡️ Go check out patreon.com/allanapratt for Exclusive content! Steven James has written and published about twenty books in the last couple of decades. Most of his novels and been thrillers. But with his new novel, Rift, he's doing something completely new: young adult Appalachian folktale horror. Steven has lived in the southern Appalachians since the 1990s. The part of East Tennessee where Rift is set was hit really hard by Hurricane Helene a couple of weeks ago. Steven's publisher, Rebecca Reynolds of Sky Turtle Books, also lives in the region. She is putting together a project to collect old stories from Appalachia, creating an anthology that can be used to raise funds for the area. She needs help finding the storytellers and their stories. Part 2 of this episode is a short conversation with Rebecca Reynholds about the Old Stories project. Here's a video about The Old Stories: An Appalachian Anthology. Support the show: https://therabbitroom.givingfuel.com/memberSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
