About the Guest(s): Lasondra Barrett is an esteemed recruiting coordinator and assistant coach for the Georgia Tech women's basketball team. With a rich history of coaching stints, including three fruitful years at the University of Houston, Lasondra has extensive experience in guiding athletes through their developmental journeys. Known for her expertise in recruitment, she focuses on integrating high IQ and high skill players into diverse, positionless basketball environments. Her reputable role extends beyond coaching, offering invaluable advice to athletes and parents navigating the college basketball recruitment process. Episode Summary: In this engaging episode of the "It's Just Different Podcast," host Ashley Roberts welcomes Lasondra Barrett, the recruiting coordinator and assistant coach at Georgia Tech, to discuss the intricate world of basketball recruitment. Lasondra shares her wisdom on the recruitment process, offering vital insights into what parents must know and how athletes can shine in the highly competitive landscape. The dialogue delves deeply into the importance of finding the right fit for collegiate athletes and the critical role of high school coaches and trainers in shaping young talent. Throughout the conversation, Lasondra emphasizes the nuanced nature of basketball recruitment today. She advises on the perils and potential of exposure, stressing the need for athletes to match their skill level with appropriate competition to avoid getting "exposed." Lasondra further explores what college recruiters, like those at Georgia Tech, look for in athletes, underscoring the value of skill, versatility, and basketball IQ. The episode offers practical guidance for parents, encourages young players to refine fundamental skills, and challenges misconceptions about the evolving roles of basketball positions. Key Takeaways: Exposure in basketball can be a double-edged sword; athletes need to ensure their abilities align with the level of play they aspire to reach. Understanding a college's playing style is crucial; recruits should inquire about team identity and ensure alignment with their strengths. Versatility and high basketball IQ are prized traits in recruits, especially within dynamic conferences like the ACC. Parents play a crucial role in recruitment, but the focus should remain on the athlete's preferences and needs. Developing mastery in one area of the game can be more beneficial than being average in many, capturing recruiters' attention effectively. This #coachbetter episode is another in our series of coaching case studies, with one of Kim's amazing clients, Tracey McGillian. These case study episodes are designed to share the story of a coach, and the development of their coaching program and practice in their unique setting. Tracey is a graduate of The Coach Certificate and Mentorship Program, and Kim has been working with (and the rest of the coaching team at her school in Pennsylvania) for several years. In this conversation Kim and Tracey talk about the evolution of the coaching program at PASD, and her own personal growth as a Tech Coach. Tracey made a big switch in her mindset and professional practice as a coach - from being reactive to being proactive - during her time in The Coach and that was a huge game changer for her! Original Air Date: Nov. 1, 2022 You asked, and we listened. By popular demand, it's an episode all about college cheer! And I got to talk to one of the best in the industry: The head coach of Texas Tech cheer, Bruce Bills. Coach Bruce has been involved with this program for TWENTY. YEARS. He led the Tech coed team to their first large coed D1 Championship. He's been named coach of the year by the College STUNT Association. He knows what he's talkin' about, and he was so gracious to spend some time with me. I took to our Facebook group and asked you all what you would ask a college coach. You had great questions, and coach Bruce answers all of them in this episode. Questions like, what does it take to be a college cheerleader? Are clinics required? Do athletes need to have a cheer social media account, and if you're a girl, can you make the team if you're not a flyer or tumbler? This episode is highly informative, and I know you'll enjoy it! ---------------------------------------------------- End-of-Season Gifts with The Cheer Collection https://thecheercollection.com/ Email Kristen at hi@thecheermomblog.com with questions and comments Join The Cheer Mom Hive on Facebook! https://www.facebook.com/groups/cheermomhive/ Follow The Cheer Mom Blog on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/thecheermomblog Follow The Cher Mom Blog on TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@cheermomblog?lang=en Music by Alex LaGrossa- Twisted Cutz Music Productions

Bradbury's commitment to open dialogue across all levels of the educational field is emphasized throughout the podcast. He stresses the necessity of better communication between administrators and teachers, as well as the need for a strategic approach to maximizing the efficiency of the resources available. We discuss how such an innovative method could be implemented from the central office level and the importance of collaboration across different departments. Moreover, we explore how instructional coaches can prove their value using definable performance data. We discuss in detail the challenges faced by coaches in different situations, whether being the sole coach in the district or a member of a centralized coaching team. We also touch on goal identification, the building of support networks, and more. Towards the end of the episode, we emphasize the importance of a unified strategic plan from the administration. We wrap up with a call to action for coaches to remember that they are not alone and to continually seek ways to assert their value within the education sector.
