We discuss the new SRAM group, how gearing may make a difference, Milan-San REMO, and Scicon dropping Astana. Cast: Mike Friedman, Chad Hartley, Tim Strelecki, and Robert Curtis. The Road Is Dead Podcast is based on what happens when people visit a bicycle business and get to talking. Topics can range widely from riding, road cycling enthusiasts, cyclocross racing, gravel racing, road racing, professional and amateur racing, grassroots cycling and events, industry discussions and trends. While based in the greater Chicagoland area regular guests are from all over. Main focus is on US domestic cycling. Guests range from Pro cyclists, industry veterans, race promoters and announcers, to just cool people that walked in. Passionate discussion you won't hear in the cycling media - we don't tow company lines and we're not afraid to discuss rumors, tell you when something is bad, or otherwise do something the others would avoid.

Wow! What an episode. I am able to have returning guest Rachel McBride on the show and we get to really hear what it’s like to have a really tough day, then for it to change for the better. When she describes the first 5K on the run as pretty horrible and says it’s terrifying how horrible it is. She describes this as a nightmare. But something changed in her mindset that left me in awe. The raw emotion of how her mom became her source of energy in this race that gave her a mental edge for the last half of the run is truly remarkable. Not only did she negative split this marathon in an IRONMAN© but she crushed it. Anyone that wants to learn about the use of positive self-talk and mental game can really gain a lot of insight in this episode. -Enjoy the show. I only have two episodes dedicated for the wonderful race up in Canada at Mont Tremblant. Do not let this lack of coverage deter you from going to this race. This race is now firmly planted on my bucket list. While I’ve talked to several talented people before, none of these match the kindness, gratefulness, and humbleness of Rachel McBride. Rachel has been doing triathlons for many years now and is being coached by Jesse Kropelnicki from QT2 Training Systems. This episode is with the Kitty Cole about her race day down in Campeche, Mexico. Kitty talks about how her first marathon and Easter Island. She has also completed Seven Marathons on Seven Continents. Kitty talks about some details of how the travel and logistics went as she traveled from the United States down to Mexico and the adjustments she would make in the future for this race. Kitty is from Wisconsin and being this is an earlier season race that tends to be warm, there were some issues she conquered along the day on the course. She talks about her nutrition plan and the challenges she faced. In the end she walked away with a slot for the Ironman 70.3 World Championship down in South Africa. She highly recommends getting out of your comfort zone. Because of this, she often goes in to the local places that many folks do not wonder to in foreign cities, and she noted how safe she felt when she was alone or even with her friend. It was a remarkable experience for her and she highly recommends travelling there. This is not a touristy city, but a true Mexican race that has a deep rooted heritage and a friendly atmosphere where people love to help anyone out. She gives some tips for the bike course as well.
