Dit weekend is het weer zo ver: Vlaanderens Mooiste! Het tweede monument van het wielerjaar is voor veel fans de mooiste en dus kunnen we in de WielerFlits Podcast niets anders dan uitgebreid vooruitblikken op de Ronde van Vlaanderen 2025 bij de mannen én de vrouwen. In beide koersen speelt er veel meer dan enkel alleen de vraag rondom de topfavorieten. Hoe dat zit? Luister snel!Maxim en Youri krijgen deze  week gezelschap van Raymond. Ze blikken eerst nog eventjes kort terug op de farce van Visma | Lease a Bike in Dwars Door Vlaanderen en wat dit intern voor gevolgen heeft richting De Ronde. Monumental monument. Les passionnés de cyclisme que nous sommes avons vécu un moment trop rare dans le calendrier des courses cyclistes avec ce Milan-San Remo qui restera sans doute dans la légende. L'une des plus belles courses de ces dernières années et sans doute son plus beau vainqueur en la personne d'un Mathieu Van der Poel de gala. Le Néerlandais qui a su une fois encore dompter le roi Tadej toujours bredouille dans les rues de San Remo.La Primavera est redevenue dingue, comment expliquer ce retour de flamme ? Pourquoi Pogi n'arrive pas à lâcher ses poursuivants sur cette course ? Peut-on craindre que les organisateurs changent le parcours pour favoriser Pogacar ? Peut-il progresser sur le sprint ? Comment expliquer la domination de Van der Poel ? Peut-il aller chercher encore mieux ? Het eerste Monument van het wielerjaar staat voor de deur, met dit jaar opnieuw een uitgave van de dameswedstrijd: Milaan-San Remo. Waar bij de mannen een verwachting heerst dat we een tweestrijd krijgen tussen Mathieu van der Poel en Tadej Pogačar, lijkt de spanning bij de vrouwen veel groter te zijn. Hoog tijd om daar dieper op in te duiken in de WielerFlits Podcast!Het makkelijkste Monument om te rijden, maar de moeilijkste om te winnen. Zo omschrijven insiders al jaren La Primavera. Toch zijn er met oud-winnaar MVDP en de Sloveense wereldkampioen nu twee absolute topfavorieten, zeker na de harde val van titelverdediger Jasper Philipsen woensdag in Nokere Koerse. Maar dat de twee het gaan uitvechten is geen uitgemaakte zaak. Youri wijst Mads Pedersen aan als sleutelfiguur: “Hij klom belachelijk sterk in Parijs-Nice. Nu is een eendaagse geen rittenkoers, maar als hij dat zaterdag kan… Pogačar en Van der Poel weten allebei dat ze een sprint tegen hem verliezen. Als hij er bovenop de Poggio nog aanhangt, kan het stilvallen. Alleen als dat gebeurt is er kans voor sprinters Jonathan Milan en Olav Kooij.”Ook staan onze mannen uitgebreid stil bij de hernieuwde uitgave voor Milaan-San Remo voor vrouwen. Die wedstrijd is aanmerkelijke korter dan de mannenkoers en ook dan meerdere wedstrijden op de vrouwenkalender. Met een uiterst divers (en ontzettend sterk) deelnemersveld, weten ook de meeste ploegen niet wat ze kunnen verwachten. Toch is Maxim het er niet mee eens dat we een andere wedstrijd krijgen als bij de mannen. Waar hij Pogačar bij de mannen speelt, ziet hij Lotte Kopecky winnen bij de vrouwen. Dat zou een bijzonder gegeven zijn, want dan zouden beide wereldkampioenen winnen op de Via Roma. Met Demi Vollering, Marianne Vos, Elisa Balsamo, Lorena Wiebes en Puck Pieterse is dat echter allerminst een eenvoudige opgave.Ook blikken onze mannen nog even kort terug op Nokere Koerse. Ondanks dat de finish vanwege de veiligheid - of meer een gebrek daaraan - werd verlegd, was er wel een grote en akelige valpartij in de slotkilometer. Voornaamste slachtoffer was Cees Bol, met kort daarna Philipsen. Prvi kolesar sveta Tadej Pogačar tudi v letošnji sezoni piše zgodovino. S tretjo zmago na dirki Strade Bianche je izenačil rekord Švicarja Fabiana Cancellare po številu zmag na tej zahtevni enodnevni klasiki. Brez težav ni šlo, Pogačar je približno 50 kilometrov pred ciljem grdo padel, vendar jo je odnesel brez hujših posledic. Po tretji zmagi na dirki so prireditelji po njem poimenovali odsek trase v Toskani. A recent article went semi-viral in the sports science world with a provocative title: "Does Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (REDs) Syndrome Exist?" While the article does have important points, we think those points are obscured by a title and supporting thesis that don't pass muster relative to what's seen and experienced in the real world. The researchers brought some hot fire in their title, and we aim to do the same as a counterpoint. And this one was full of fascinating topics!
