If you grew up or currently live and ride bikes in a town with any sort of population, we bet there's either a group ride of some sort that just happened or will be happening in a few days. Maybe it starts from the local bike shop, or maybe it starts from the go-to coffee shop. Some rides are a chill Sunday spin that's gone on uninterrupted for the past two decades, while others are the three-hour World Championship ride with 50 of the local meatheads. We do our best to define these group tries, describe what motivates these rides, and how to find your ideal group ride, even if that means starting one yourself. Of course, we also dig into the news. That means talking about how the UCI handed out a last-minute ban on a Kask helmet visor that the Ineos Grenadiers have used for years, and talking to the team to find out what happened. Then came the sealant conversation. Silca is so certain of its sealant working headache-free that the brand has promised to pay a $500 Bad Day Bonus to its sponsored athletes who get punctures that don't seal. We dove into why it is so confident in its new Ultimate Sealant. All of that and more in the latest podcast! See more from Velo: https://velo.outsideonline.com/featured

February 6-7, 2025, the Kalahari Resort will come to life with farmers from across the upper Midwest for the annual Corn/Soy Expo. Adam Kask, executive director of the Wisconsin Soybean Association and the Wisconsin Soybean Marketing Board, tells Pam Jahnke that exhibit space is more than half spoken for already, and speakers are stacking up with excellent content for growers. Growers are being encouraged to register today, and secure their hotel space. Kask says the 2024 show was a record breaker with attendance over 1,500. They're expecting the same, if not more, in 2025 given the changing terrain in Washington, and the economics facing farming operations.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Welcome back for another episode of Geek Warning. This week, Dave Rome and Brad Copeland discuss the latest topics in the bike world. They ponder whether all-road and gravel bikes are now the same thing. And the conversation does cover Dave's poor financial control.Three new bikes are discussed. There's Canyon's new Aeroad road race bike, a bike that Ronan Mc Laughlin wrote about last week. Meanwhile, USA-based Otso Cycles and State Bicycle Co have both released new all-road/gravel bikes with prices starting from just US$2,500 – the Otso Cycles Warakin and State Titanium All-Road (yes, a budget titanium bike). On Dave's mind is the gravel bike he couldn't bring himself to return, a Santa Cruz Stigmata that he just wrapped up reviewing. You'll also hear a PSA about servicing freehub bodies, and the episode wraps up (in under an hour!) with a quick bite of news from Kask.Timestamps:4:35 - Canyon's new Aeroad goes all-in on T2516:30 - Defining All Road21:00 - Otso Cycles' new Warakin Steel27:55 - State launches a budget titanium bike33:20 - Reviewing bikes can get expensive40:00 - PSA on freehub body servicing50:35 - Kask unveils the Nirvana aero road helmet

Przeploty to nowa seria w ramach TRIPOWER Podcast. Niech to będzie lustro naszych bieżących spraw, a czasem nawet niech to będzie krzywe zwierciadło triathlonowego światka. Trochę humoru i dystansu przyda się w zimowych miesiącach (czyli 9 miesięcy w roku).

Lots of new stuff to chat about this week! Specialized's Allez revamp is hardly revolutionary, but there's a lot to be said for a no-frills and accessible bike that's executed well. Dave has some (bad) ideas for Kask on how to market its new Elemento flagship helmet, Wahoo's founder owns his company again, and Trek makes an interesting move with the Bontrager brand name.We also chat about Aerocoach's latest round of rolling resistance tests, and Fairwheel Bikes' intriguing crank stiffness tests. The jiu-jitsu world was shaken recently when Jack Greener, severely injured in 2018 while sparring at a San Diego gym, was awarded $46,475,112 dollars by a jury. Rener Gracie testified for the plaintiff, and Clark Gracie testified for the defence. In this episode, I get together with Dan Lukeheart (Brea Jiu-Jitsu) and Alex Kask (Barrister and Solicitor) to discuss the specific technique that caused this injury (the 'Leo Viera Backtake'), training methods used in jiu-jitsu, who gets to set industry standards in jiu-jitsu, whether white belts should spar, and how teachers and club owners can protect themselves from being wiped out by similar lawsuits. More information about this lawsuit is available here... Developments in Martial Arts Practice Liability: Greener v. Welcome back to the Nerd Alert podcast! This week we have a deep dive episode about something that'll likely bring positive change to the helmets we all wear. Our guest is Peter Haldin, the Chief Science Officer and a Co-Founder of MIPS. However, in this interview, Peter is wearing another hat (helmet?) and speaks about his role as the Convener of the Working Group 11 (WG11). In short, WG11 is working to bring rotational-based testing to helmet safety standards, and the goal is to help reduce the number of brain injuries suffered from cycling crashes. Where things get a little confusing is that the likes of Rudy Project and Kask have already started promoting that their helmets meet WG11 test standards. This episode clarifies what this working group is, what the testing involves, and what the future of helmet safety may look like.
