The Virginia Department of Transportation will begin to move traffic onto the rehabilitated northbound lane of the Skipwith Road bridge over I-64 in Henrico County Monday, April 29. A temporary traffic signal system will be in place on the approach to the bridge, and the existing traffic signals at the intersection of Skipwith Road and Anoka Road will remain in place. VDOT officials said a barrier wall will be put up in the area to delineate traffic during the next phase of the rehabilitation work. The Virginia Department of Transportation will install temporary signals at each end of the Skipwith Road bridge over I-64 in Henrico County as part of upcoming bridge rehabilitations beginning Tuesday, April 11. I am a man.” It was Skipwith’s autonomy, audacity, entrepreneurship and vision for creating his own economic stability and generational wealth that shaped so much of the Jackson Ward community of Richmond. While on their journey and discovery of the history of Jackson Ward, sisters Enjoli and Dr. Seisha Moon found Skipwith’s story to be the north star of what would lead the Ward to be known as the Black Wall Street. If you were to meet Mia Skipwith now, you might be tempted to assume that with her warm heart and loving demeanour, she's been a member of the church her whole life. However Mia did not grow up in a safe, nurturing home, nor did she have a knowledge of a Father in Heaven who loved her. But despite suffering through a childhood of abuse, and feeling utterly alone, Mia has defied the odds and found a life of peace through the gospel of Jesus Christ. Past Director, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service In April 2017, Ms. Skipwith was appointed by President Trump to the position of Deputy Assistant Secretary for Fish and Wildlife and Parks, Department of the Interior. Ms. Skipwith was responsible and had oversight for policy, planning, and regulatory actions for the National Park Service (NPS) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS).On January 6, 2020, Ms. Aurelia Skipwith was sworn in by Vice President Mike Pence as the Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS). She served as the 22nd Director for the Service and was the first African American to hold the position. Ms. Skipwith was first nominated by President Trump in October 2018 for the position and then she was re-nominated in the 116th Congress on July 17, 2019. She was confirmed by the full Senate on December 12, 2019.As the Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Ms. Skipwith was responsible for the federal management of fish, wildlife and natural habitats. The Service’s mission is "working with others to conserve, protect, and enhance fish, wildlife, plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people." The Service employs over 8,500 employees and manages over 855 million acres of land and water. In her role as Director, she served on multiple Councils and Committees, including serving as the Vice-Chairman of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Border Interagency Executive Council and was also a member of the U.S. Trade Representative’s Interagency Committee on Trade in Timber Products from Peru. On January 19, 2021, Ms. Skipwith resigned from her position as Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.Ms. Skipwith is an avid marathon runner and a true believer in getting involved. Her family hails from Columbus, Mississippi.

Oct. 27 On October 27, 1810, U.S. President James Madison proclaimed that the United States should take possession of West Florida between the Mississippi and Perdido Rivers, based on a tenuous claim that it was part of the Louisiana Purchase. The West Florida government opposed annexation, preferring to negotiate terms to join the Union. Governor Fulwar Skipwith proclaimed that he and his men would "surround the Flag-Staff and die in its defense". William C. C. Claiborne was sent to take possession of the territory, entering the capital of St. Francisville with his forces on December 6, 1810, and Baton Rouge on December 10, 1810. Claiborne refused to recognize the legitimacy of the West Florida government, however, and Skipwith and the legislature eventually agreed to accept Madison's proclamation. Congress passed a joint resolution, approved January 15, 1811, to provide for the temporary occupation of the disputed territory and declaring that the territory should remain subject to future negotiation.
