Five-time Spec Miata champion Preston Pardus joins Davey Segal this week (5:30) ahead of his first attempted Xfinity Series race of 2025. He dives into the revenge he's seeking after failing to quality for COTA last year, why he and Pardus Racing chose the select races they did for this year, how his NASCAR experience has been thus far and how his father Dan's experience at the top level of stock car levels has guided his time thus far. Pardus also details his iconic 2017 SCCA runoffs victory that started it all in Spec Miatas, his super sweep in 2020 and how they've done it all while building cars in their backyard in New Smyrna, Florida. Pardus explains why the No. 50 he's running now in Xfinity is special to the family, racing against his sister (and dad) and why he's so appreciative of his loyal fanbase. Davey also recaps Christopher Bell's win at Atlanta, looks ahead to COTA and Papa Segal pays homage to Bobby Labonte.

Best regards, Vicki, Jennifer, Alan, and Bill Hosts of the Garage Heroes In Training Podcast and Garage Heroes In Training racing team drivers Highlights for this episode include: 1)  Why he selected Spec Miata as a primary racing class and why he also includes and enjoys other types of racing.  2)  Aaron opens up the trap door to a quick summary of our racing cars and HPDE cars.  We need to get a bit more focus.  Time for a garage sale.  We may have a race car (or truck) for you, lol 3)  Vicki is not familiar with the track at Brainerd, but after our discussion it sounds like we will be soon, lol.  Top tip:  Also obey the team CFO. 4)  Some of the plusses and minuses of racing Spec Miata and how it has influenced hos racing approach and philosophy. 5)  Are there significant differences between instructing in autocross and instructing on a race track?  Also a discussion of the potential benefits of autocross before driving on track.  The skills are complimentary but the approach can be quite different in some ways. 6)  Aaron discusses his experience with almost all of the amateur endurance racing series and some of the new ones starting this season. 7)  As expected, we also discuss Spec Miata and Vicki is still intimidated with the concept of bump drafting.  This will likely change with time.  We have a NB Spec Miata car that needs a bit of love to race this season, but we are hopeful.  Bilstein shocks may be in our future. 8)  Why does Aaron seem to prefer arrive and drive (Seat Rentals) for endurance racing events.  Bill has always had concerns and questions that has prevented him from doing many arrive and drives.  We discuss several of them. 9)  Money saving tips and insight into what is required and what is avoidable to be competitive in the series, locally and nationally.  10)  Somehow we return to the topic of our cars.  It appears we are in the midst of an informal race car intervention.  lol.  (Probably long overdue) 11)  We also have a discussion of the storage required for a racing car and team.  Aaron is curious about the hangar that we use as our teams primary hub. 12)  How volunteering at events can minimize or potentially eliminate the cost of racing. 13)  How our "press" claim was received by a racing series.  (as you would expect) 14)  Just when you thought it was over, we get into a discussion of some of the local midwestern tracks that Aaron suggest we try.  As always, the answer is "yes"   To follow Aaron further:  Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/aaron.jongbloedt  His blog:  https://junglemotorsports.blogspot.com

After spending 10 years in equestrian show jumping competition, Taylor Hagler traded in the horse for horsepower in 2018. This was a natural progression, as Taylor and her father have been lifelong sports car racing fans. Taylor moved into Spec Miata in NASA Texas and has proven to be a quick study in sports car racing. In her first season of competition, Taylor worked up to 5th place of 69 drivers in the NASA Texas Spec Miata championship. She was also awarded the Rookie of the Year by the NASA Texas organization for the skill and growth that she exhibited throughout the season. In the latter part of 2018 and early 2019, Taylor made another big step in her racing career and collected her first win at Road Atlanta with the SCCA and her first pole position at MSR Houston with NASA. These strong performances caught the eye of the X-Factor Racing team who was plotting a return to professional racing.  With this deal, Taylor began testing in the potent Honda Civic for her professional debut at Circuit of the Americas in March of 2019.In her debut weekend in TC America, Taylor was able to earn her first podium finish in front of family, friends, and a home crowd at Circuit of the Americas in Elroy, Texas.  She followed up her early season success with another podium finish and her first career pole position at Watkins Glen. As a result of her consistent improvement throughout the year, Taylor finished her debut season in professional racing in 5th place in the TC America TCA Driver's Championship. For the 2020 season, Taylor signed with Honda Performance Development (HPD) to drive in the IMSA TCR series under LAP Motorsports and LA Honda World Racing. She and co-driver Ryan Eversley captured one podium finish and five Top 5 finishes during the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge season.  Taylor also captured the pole position for the second event at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course during a break-out weekend in 2020.Taylor joined Michael Lewis in the number 77 Hyundai Veloster N TCR for Bryan Herta Autosport in the 2021 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge where they finished the season at the top of the podium as champions of the series.  Hagler became the first-ever female to earn the championship title in the TCR category and is the second female champion in IMSA history.Hagler was also named the 2021 SRO GT World Challenge America Rookie of the Year. All of this in just four professional racing seasons.  Wow.

Hey everyone, welcome to the Luminous Podcast!  This week I did my first remote episode of the show, which actually went really smoothly.  I sat down (across the country) with Tyler Kicera, Senior Director of the Kinetics Department at Tait Towers.  They're responsible for some of the most incredible kinetic stage designs and permanent installations in the world, including the London 2012 Olympics, U2, Queen, & Rodger Waters world tours, all of Deadmouse's ridiculous stages, The Wynn in Las Vegas, and so many more absolutely bonkers installations.  Tyler and I were supposed to present this year at LDI on a panel discussion on architainment and feature design, but it kind of fell apart at the last minute. Oh well. We decided he should definitely do an episode of the podcast so we could get to know each other and at least talk for a bit. We had a fascinating conversation and we got into some great side topics about some of his other passions, road racing in Spec Miata competitions, maintaining work-life balance, and how having kids can change your perspective and priorities.  He's a genuinely cool guy and I'm bummed we won't get to do our panel this year, but it was great to get to hang out for a bit and get to know each other! Hope you enjoy the conversation.
