Today, June 9th, is officially the last regular day of school at Woodland Regional and reminded us to get our library books in—especially the sophomores, who are currently in last place—and for seniors to finish paying for their caps and gowns so they can actually walk across the stage. The highlight of the day is definitely Pizza Day, featuring hometown pizzas and a special long advisory where some classes are even feasting on Chick-fil-A. All our classes were shortened by three minutes to make room for the celebration. While exams for B4 and B3 start tomorrow, today's focus is on the state semi-finals. The baseball team plays St. Paul at 3:30 PM, following the softball team's big 4-1 victory yesterday that sent them to the state championship this weekend.Even with the news reporting on 5,300-year-old mummies and pirate ships, my mind is on that 1:50 bell. With senior sunset this Sunday and graduation next Monday at 6:00 PM, the school year is finally coming to a close.

Brim, Kim and Mr. Greer are back at it again. Apart from all the usual shenanigans, the gang chats about everything in pop culture with all the trimmings as they discuss the abrupt closing of Spirit Airlines, how Wren closed in the same manner, and Frontier doing monthly unlimited deals. They discuss how a plane landed on a delivery vehicle, crazy influencer issues, and how another influencer paid $17k to have ribs taken out. The crew also chats about the director of the Fifth Element, Russell Brand's 16 year old situation, and Hantavirus outbreak on a cruise ship. The cast talks about Area 51 explosions, possible aliens, and a guy gets arrested breaking into a Barnes & Noble to finish reading a book (this was actually a fake story, but fun anyway). They talk about Will Smith taking it to Jada Smith after separation, JP Morgan Chase hot boss situation, and Fabio and the great goose story. The crew also discusses the Superman ride at Six Flags getting stuck at top, $80k Chik-fil-et theft, and Wal-Mart getting rid of self-check-out, and home gas explosion sends NYPD officers flying. The crew chats about entertainment news, opinions and other cool stuff and things. Enjoy.Wherever you listen to podcasts & www.thegrindhouseradio.comhttps://linktr.ee/thegrindhouseradio

Maybe you've seen his vidoes while doom scrolling on your phone at two a.m. in search of elementary enlightenment or a break from the gravitational gloom of the world and its lunatic leaders. The universal use of his entire body through the meditational medium of the acoustic guitar, jaw harp, harmonica, nose flute, and vocals radically radiates the revolutionary reaction of the avant-garde in all its esoteric essence. Darcy Spidle, commonly known as Chik White, is a melodic moniker adopted by the Nova Scotia-based musician and performer for his work in films such as, (Lowlife, Tin Can, The Sinner) and music over the last twenty years. He is a force of great poetic power, improvisational intimacy, and elemental energy. Having first come onto the punk scene in Halifax, White toured and performed with several bands and projects, which critically connected him with his love for improve and the sometimes romantic reality of not only challenging his audience and listeners but himself within the experimental ecosystem he's created around his art. With the release of his latest effort, "Face Across the Door" on the Italian-based label Music a la Coque, as well as a spring tour to follow, White brings his melodic messages to the mortal masses in hopes of connecting, inspiring, entertaining, and distracting various audiences, even if just for a moment, from the chaos of the world, with lyrical laughter and humble harmonies.

CHRISTIAN LIVING ACCORDING TO THE EPISTLES: Why do we keep doing what we know is wrong, even when we want to obey God? Drawing from Galatians 5:16–25 and Romans 7, Dr. Chik Kaw Tan explores the inner battle between the flesh and the Spirit. This sermon traces God's big story: Creation, Fall, Redemption, and Restoration; and shows how true spiritual transformation is possible through the work of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We examine sanctification as a lifelong process, the seriousness of sin, and how idolatry and unbelief at the heart level shape our behaviour. The message also identifies common modern idols, such as comfort and approval, and calls us to live by the Spirit and bear the fruit of a transformed life. Today, they're one of the largest Christian populations in Indonesia, with over 6 million believers. The transformation happened because someone, a German missionary named Ludwig Nommensen, decided their spiritual poverty was unacceptable. That was 190 years ago. Today, 4,473 people groups are still waiting for their Ludwig Nommensen moment. The People Group Adoption Program launches today, and here's how it works: It meets you where you are. You're not being asked to become a missionary in the field (though if God calls you to that, we'll cheer you on). You're being invited to use your current gifts, prayer, advocacy, networking, research to support those who are already called to go. It's strategic. Every people group in our database has been vetted by researchers and field workers. These aren't randomly selected communities. They're the 100 largest frontier people groups, the populations with the least gospel access and the greatest potential for kingdom impact. It grows with your capacity. Whether you're adopting as a family, church, or organization, the commitment adjusts to what you can offer. Some will pray weekly. Others will fund translation projects. A few will end up moving to the field. All contributions matter. When you adopt a people group today, you'll receive: Immediate next steps for your specific adopted group A digital covenant card to mark your commitment Information about your frontier people group Regular updates as we develop more resources and connections Beyond the practical resources, you'll receive something harder to quantify: the knowledge that you're part of a strategic response to the most urgent spiritual need on our planet. The Batak people have been sending missionaries to unreached groups for decades now. Their story didn't end with their own transformation; it multiplied exponentially.

What's behind the Kroger Co.'s recent push to invest in Louisville?Jake Cannon, Louisville division president for Kroger, is on this week's Access Louisville podcast to explain that and much more.LBF has been reporting on major investments from Kroger in the market during the last few years. In March we had a story about a $1.8 million remodel of the West Broadway location. Before that, we covered a $2 million renovation of the Outer Loop Kroger. Those are just to name a few recent examples. As Cannon explains on the show: "it takes capital dollars invested into our brick and mortar stores to make sure layout of the store is right and that we have the right assortment [of products.] Thousands of items are introduced into the market each year."For example, he noted, that when he ran a Kroger store in the 2000s, there was only one energy drink on the shelves: Red Bull.  "Now it's an aisle ... everybody in the world has an energy drink and that's what the customers are looking for," he said.Late last year, Kroger also announced a $40 million new marketplace store on Beulah Church Road. The company is facing new competition in town, including Publix's entry and expansion into Louisville. Cannon talks about competition as well — including what he looks for when he visits Kroger's competitors. As well as companies that he personally admires, including Starbucks and Chik-fil-a.Cannon, originally from Utah, started working in a grocery store when he was 16 as he explained in this 2023 profile story in Business First. That store wasn't a Kroger location but he found his way to the company from there. He worked for Kroger in Utah, Las Vegas and at the company's general office in Cincinnati, before coming to Louisville. Cincinnati-based Kroger has served the Louisville community for 95 years now at 27 stores across Jefferson County. Kroger Louisville Division operates 116 retail stores in Kentucky, Southern Indiana and Southern Illinois. Kroger Co. is one of the largest employers in Greater Louisville.Access Louisville, sponsored by Baird, is a weekly podcast from Louisville Business First. Luke 6:17-26[Jesus] went down with them and stood on a level place, with a great crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea, Jerusalem, and the coasts of Tyre and Sidon. They came out to hear and to be healed of their diseases, and all those who were troubled by unclean spirits were cured. All in the crowd were trying to touch Jesus, because power came out of him and healed all of them. Then Jesus looked up to his disciples and said, “Blessed are you who are poor now, for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you will be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh. Blessed are you when people hate you and exclude you and persecute you and defame you on account of the Son of Man, rejoice in that day and leap for joy, for surely your reward is great in heaven. For that is what your ancestors did to the prophets. But woe to you who are rich now, for you have receive your consolation. And woe to you who are full now, for you will be hungry. Woe to you who are laughing now, for you will mourn and weep. And woe to you when all speak well of you, for that is what your ancestors did to the false prophets. Pastor Cogan confirmed a rumor we've heard about that new construction going on at the southeast corner of U.S. 40 and Mt. Comfort Road these days. Apparently, it's going to be a WaWa – another convenience store/gas station out of Philadelphia. WaWa also has food, with enough of a menu that you can get breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as part of your gas station experience. But that's also true of the Speedway across the street and the Leo's just up the road on your way to Greenfield. (I was hoping for a restaurant NOT attached to a gas station and something without a drive-thru, but no one asked me.)But did you know there's some marketing and social science behind the decision to put a gas station across the street from another gas station? That there's a logic to the capitalistic tendency to put a Lowe's hardware store very near to a Home Depot; to build a CVS kitty corner from a Walgreen's; to put a Burger King next to a McDonald's, next to a Wendy's, next to a Taco Bell, next to a Chik-fil-A?The logic, as I understand it, is that it changes the questions that potential consumers ask themselves as they drive around town. When only one potential option presents itself, the question is simply, “Do I need gas, or something from the hardware store, or something to eat?” Those are simple, yes/no questions and easier, cut-and-dry decisions to make. But when there are similar options available to us, our minds are more inclined to engage the nuance of the potential decision before us. We no longer wonder so much about WHETHER we want or need a particular thing – a simple yes/no question. Instead, we wonder WHICH ONE of the available options is more appealing, and are more inclined to choose SOMETHING, accordingly, whether we need it or not. Sneaky, right? Clever, don't you think? It could very well be just me – and my struggle with the Beatitudes whenever they show up – but I feel like Jesus might be up to something similar with this portion of his “Sermon on the Plain,” today, and all of his talk about “Blessings” and “Woes.”Blessed are you who are poor, who are hungry, who are weeping …If Jesus ONLY gave us the blessings to wonder about, it would be easy for each of us to see ourselves as recipients of the healing, hope, comfort, joy, and favor, he promises. Who among us doesn't or hasn't wished for “more,” to the point that, without some perspective we might think we know what “poor” feels like? And who among us doesn't know what it is to weep, or to hunger for something other than food, or to be left out, excluded, and misunderstood where faith – or something else may be concerned?I'll take that blessing every time and I'll live in that hope whenever and wherever I can find it, thank you very much. But Jesus gives us more than one option to think about – more than one perspective to consider – this morning, doesn't he? To use my gas station example, Jesus sets up this little shop of BLESSINGS right next door to this little factory of WOES, does he not? He proposes this litany of BLESSINGS right across the proverbial street from that other list of WOES so that it's harder to just drive on by, encouraging us to think more deeply about how they show up in our lives – whether we may want to go there, or not. And, truth be told, I'm equally – if not more – convicted by the woes than the blessings in Jesus' beatitudes. I'm not wealthy by the standards of many, but I am rich in ways most of the world cannot fathom. (Woe to me.) I am filled to overflowing – literally and figuratively – and have never known the kind of hunger – literal and figurative – with which so many struggle. (Woe to me.) I find opportunities for joy and light and laughter in this world, even though there is so much to be dismayed about and despairing over, for sure. (Woe to me. And to most of you, too, from what I can tell.)So, again, if Jesus merely presented us with the WOES as he lays them out today, I could easily wallow in that shame, guilt and sadness, like a pig in slop. Woe, is me.But, again, Jesus builds this house of WOES, right next door to this little gift shop of BLESSINGS, and inspires me to do more than just drive on by, or to say “yes” or “no” to my first instinct or inclination about how they apply to my life and faith in this world. And it's important to notice that this is a conversation and that these are choices meant and made, very specifically, for Jesus' disciples. Yes, there were multitudes there from all over Judea, from the big city of Jerusalem, and from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon. But when Jesus looked up and started saying these things in particular, we're told he was speaking directly to his disciples – to those who wanted to follow in his footsteps, to do his bidding, to walk in his ways. And that's you and me on our best days, right? Our lives are a swirl of blessings and woes so extreme that they can be difficult to reconcile – and God knows that. And God knows, too, that we find ourselves on either end of the spectrum of these blessings and woes, depending on what day or minute or moment we decide to take a good, hard look, as Jesus invites us to do, today. How can we look at the world around us and not wonder who are the rich and privileged? (Global Refuge, which used to be Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services, had 97% of their funding frozen in the last week or two, leaving refugees stranded instead of saved, as planned. They've laid off ¼ of their staff and couldn't make payroll this week, either so it's not getting better anytime soon.)How can we see the poverty of food and the scarcity of resources that exist for so many and not wonder how we might pray and advocate for something better? (The recent halt to USAID funding will impact everything from AIDS testing and education to contraceptive healthcare to food and medical assistance for some of the most vulnerable people on the planet – including our friends in Haiti.)And how can we see the weeping and mourning of others and not do whatever we can to provide comfort, peace, and hope in its place? (This is why we plan things like advocacy training workshops around here so that we might make a difference on behalf of people without homes in our own neck of the woods.)See, I think Jesus lays out these two competing realities – these blessings and woes – side by side before us, as he does – so that we won't just go about our lives of faith asking simple “yes” and “no” questions, like blind, happy capitalists, on our way to the gas station, or the drive-thru, or the voting booth, or even to church on Sunday morning.I think Jesus knows and wants us to assume that most of us will have blessings and woes aplenty in this life. And he wants us to wonder about how our blessings impact the woes of others, and vice versa, so that we will see our wants and needs, our blessings and woes, in the context of and in connection with the multitudes of neighbors – all children of God – in the wide world around us.And I think Jesus wants us to ask better questions. Not merely IF or WHETHER we'll step up and step out in faith to love our one another, for God's sake, but WHEN and WHERE and HOW. And he wants to watch us do something to turn the tables – to create more blessings where there seem only to be woes – for us and for others, on this side of heaven, in his name.Amen

Liberty Counsel Represents Kim Davis Liberty Counsel is taking hits for representing Kentucky County Clerk Kim Davis' religious liberty case at the 6th Circuit Court Appeals. At issue is the Liberty Counsel's challenge of the 2015 Obergefell decision and a potential reversal, in favor of religious liberty. Kim and her husband, as well as Liberty Counsel have been subjected to multiple, serious death threats. Liberty Counsel President Mat Staver released a statement Monday, noting that “Anyone who stands up to the hateful agenda of the LGBTQ Mafia is demonized. .   .. the LGBTQ left will not tolerate religious freedom and wants to destroy anyone who disagrees.” Biden Administration Announces Plea Deal with 9/11 Conspirators The Biden administration Department of Justice has announced a plea deal with alleged conspirators of the 9/11 attacks, which occurred 23 years ago. Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, Walid Bin ‘Attash, and Mustafa al Hawsawi will plead guilty to conspiracy and murder charges, but will not face the death penalty for the murders of 2,977 people on September 11, 2001. Senator JD Vance commenting on the deal told an audience yesterday, “"We need a president who kills terrorists, not negotiates with them.” And Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, called the decision “unthinkable” and a “slap in the face” for families of those murdered by the terrorists. God said, “Whoever sheds man's blood, by man his blood shall be shed; for in the image of God He made man.” (Gen. 9:6) 60% of Americans Support Death Penalty 60% of Americans support the death penalty. There were 23 executions in the US last year down from 98 in 1999. The US Homicide rate has also increased since 2014, from 4.7 per 100,000, to 6.0 per 100,000 persons in 2023, which accounts for over 20,000 murders. Keep in mind, “The ruler is God's minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God's minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil.” Romans 13:4 20 Dead Over Venezuelan Protests Protests following the Venezuelan sham election over the weekend in which the communist dictator claimed victory - have resulted in 20 deaths, and 1,072 persons arrested by the regime, according to Effecto Cocuyo — an independent news source. The nation's prosecutor, Tarek William Saab has warned protestors, that they are facing up to 20-30 years in prison. A respected American polling organization, Edison Research, has issued its exit poll results for the Venezuelan election. Opposition candidate Edmundo González Urrutia of the Unitary Platform easily won by a margin of 65 to 31%. Younger (18-29 year old) voters were more likely to vote against the communist dictator, by a margin of 74% to 21%. Edison Research has been the sole provider of election data to the National Election Pool, consisting of ABC News, CBS News, CNN, and NBC News.  Also, AltaVista obtained results from about 1,000 polling stations, photographed them, analyzed them and then sent the results around the world. They also showed a landslide: 66 percent for González, 31 percent for Maduro. Debt in Africa Has Increased Substantially Africa's debt burden has increased substantially just since 2010. Reuters reports that Zambia, Ethiopia, and Ghana are now in default. And at least 20 African nations have taken on a heavy debt burden, as defined by the IMF, a condition that did not exist for these countries just 10 years ago.  Although, none of these nations are in as severe a condition as the United States - with a debt-to-GDP ratio — now at 122% up from 64% in 2008.  Japan, Sudan, Lebanon, and Greece have a higher debt-to-GDP ratio than the United States. “The debtor is servant to the lender.”  Proverbs 22:7. College Enrollment Dropping Undergraduate college enrollment has dropped another 852,000 students since 2019 - a 4.6% drop. Christain colleges are taking the hit.  A recent survey of 50 Christain colleges found 36 out of 50 Christian colleges had a net decrease in tuition income over the last 5 years, as reported by wng.org.  The college bubble has pretty much burst. . .In Minnesota, only 57% of high school graduates signed up for college on graduation, in 2022. That's down from 82% in 2011. Chik-fil-A Worker Fends off Armed Robber An armed robber broke into an Atlanta Chik Fil A last month, levelled a gun at employee Kevin Blair. . . and told him he was going to die if he didn't open the restaurant safe. By God's mercies, Blair fought off the armed robber for several harrowing minutes — in a desperate fight for his life, finally pushing him out the door of the restaurant. Blair talked about the struggle in an interview with WXIA TV — BLAIR: “I broke his glasses. I put my thumb into his eye.  He hit me several times.” WXIA TV ANNOUNCER: “Fighting off the intruder, the whole time thinking: BLAIR: “I want to see my kids.  That's really it.  Get through this.  Go see my kids.”  Police have arrested suspect Tommie Lee Williams in connection with the assault.
