We discuss what it all means on this week's Access Louisville podcast.The latest news is a $6 billion project in Oldham County which is attracting scrutiny from nearby residents and officials. There are also data center developments in South Louisville and at the River Ridge Commerce Center in Jeffersonville, Indiana. The jury is likely still out on whether having these projects are good or not. Sure, they attract big investments and require some high paying jobs. And possibly set the area up for more technology industry development. But they're also a major draw on power and water resources.After the data center discussion, Reporter Joel Stinnett shares some of his notes from covering new University of Louisville president Gerard "Gerry" Bradley. He did his first press conference recently after his very unusual appointment to UofL's top office. Lastly, we get into a little baseball talk — particularly the news that a Louisville native has landed a very lucrative MLB contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks. And we wrap up the show with me lamenting the fact that Cincinnati Reds games are no longer readily available on my TV provider of choice. Coach Bob Lovell and Brendan King begin the top of the hour with live updates on the Fishers vs Jeffersonville THRILLER in the 4A Boys Basketball State Championship Game. As BK outlines, Fishers rages back at the end of the fourth quarter to force overtime, then Jeffersonville took the lead and held on with bated breath as the Tigers launched a last second shot, which fell unsuccessful. Jeffersonville’s 67-66 win marked its first state title since the 90’s, when HC Sherron Wilkerson was a player on the team. Then, LIVE in studio, Pacers Radio’s Pat Boylan sits down to first talk about his 2A State Title game (Manchester beating University 59-54) then about his NBA game (Indiana falling in Oklahoma City 132-111). Now that the IU coaching situation is settled time to quickly move to staff and roster builds. We are one day into the NCAA tournament with lots more coming this weekend. It's semi-state weekend for the IHSAA tournament. With former Hoosier Sherron Wilkerson guiding Jeffersonville, the Red Devils are a contender.  And Sherron has some sage advice for new IU coach Darian DeVries.  

Rob Brown calls in to talk a tid-bit about his professional basketball experience. He mainly covers Marion women's basketball. They got the win against MIlligan and the score was 76-66. Coach Kline calls in to talk about his Monroe Central win over Del Bell. The score for this game was 68-58. He talks about how proud he is of his guys and this being his first year. David Deaton calls in with his perspective on the Orleans win previously talked about, what was surprising about what he had to say? Dave Socklet calls in for the Jeffersonville vs. Evansville Harrison and the score was 65-40. He talks about how exciting the game was and who did well tonight and today. We then move to college football as coach talks with Len Clark of Irish 101 as they discuss the Fighting Irish’s win over Georgia in the playoffs and their MBB team’s heartbreaking loss at home to North Carolina. Coach then moves over to Kris Norton of WITZ as they had two games today for Jasper; the boys losing 49-58 vs Princeton and the girls getting the win 58-20 over Pike Central. Jones leads the podcast with a story about Renshoku Ramen, an Old Louisville restaurant that has faced a few struggles of late, including being hit by a car (known as being MagBarred) more than two months ago. The crashed killed the driver and caused a fire that spread to the building at Second and Oak streets. We talk about a couple of local projects that appear to be dead — or at least on life support — during this week's Access Louisville podcast.The first is the proposed Dream Hotel — a $100 million hotel project that was proposed on Main Street a few years ago. As LBF Senior Reporter Joel Stinnett reported recently, the effort is indefinitely on hold, according to a Louisville Metro Government official. Louisville isn't the only city where Dream Hotel projects have faced some issues. After that, we talk about a retail development in J'town (which was suspected to include a new Publix location) that looks to have been stopped as well. The property where the development was proposed needed a rezoning in order to move forward, which was denied by Louisville Metro Council. And now the deadline to appeal that action has passed.It's not all bad news though. We also talk about plans to move forward with redevelopment of the former Jeffboat property in Jeffersonville, Indiana, now that a developer has been picked for that massive project.After that we chat a bit about soccer with Louisville City FC hosting a major German club, Eintracht Frankfurt, for an international friendly recently. All across the state, sites are named in his honor. The city of Lafayette, for example. In Indianapolis, there's Lafayette Road. In the city of Princeton in southwestern Indiana, there's a Lafayette Park. And the Marquis de Lafayette, hailed as a hero of both the American Revolution and the French Revolution, is the only individual to have two counties in Indiana with names associated with him: Fayette County and LaGrange County. LaGrange was the name of an estate in France owned by Marquis de Lafayette (1757-1834). Now, admirers across the country, including Hoosiers, are preparing to spotlight the 200th anniversary of Gen. Lafayette's grand farewell tour of 1824-25, during which the distinguished "guest of the nation" returned to America after his triumphs in the Revolutionary War. He traveled 6,000 miles and visited all 24 states that comprised the country then, including Indiana. Lafayette's interactions with the Hoosier state were brief but eventful.

It's… rated (a) Strong Buy on average. 6. Visa Inc. (NYSE:V) Hedge Fund Shareholders: 162 Visa Inc. is another payment gateway platform and services provider. Like Mastercard, it was also at the center of a bullish analyst note from Morgan Stanley in April 2024 that indicated that Visa Inc. was benefiting from the surge in global travel. 5. NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) Hedge Fund Shareholders: 173 NVIDIA Corporation is Wall Street's artificial intelligence darling. Its shares are up by 198% over the past year… 4. Alphabet Inc. The firm was out with an announcement worthy of its size in April 2024 when it announced that it would invest $640 million to set up a new data center in The Netherlands. 3. Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:META) Hedge Fund Shareholders: 242 Meta Platforms, Inc. is the biggest social media and communications company in the world. Its CEO Mark Zuckerberg appeared to have thrown a curve ball in the AI market in April 2024 when Meta Platforms announced its Llama 3 model which it claims is one of the most powerful open source AI platforms in the world. 2. Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) Hedge Fund Shareholders: 293 Amazon.com is one of the biggest eCommerce retailers in the world. Like other mega cap stocks, it is also focusing heavily on AI, and announced plans in April through which its AWS business division seeks to host other businesses' AI models. 1. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) Hedge Fund Shareholders: 302 Microsoft is a global consumer software and enterprise computing giant. This new article is titled The Power of the Sun: 3 Solar Energy Stocks Primed for 5X Gains. It's by Faizan Farooque. Now some quotes from Mr. Farooque. “1. Array Technologies (NASDAQ:ARRY) has surpassed Wall Street projections four times… Despite tremendous success, Array stock is down 31% in 2024 due to lower-than-expected annual expectations. The company's reduction of its annual prediction has lowered the stock's price, making it ideal for investors looking for inexpensive solar stocks. Analysts predict a 68% upside. 2. Canadian Solar (NASDAQ:CSIQ) The company has missed profit expectations seven times in a row, with the most recent miss being 350%. All it can do is focus on its business and grow. The article is titled Best ESG Stocks to Invest in 2024 and it's by Jim Halley. Now some brief comments by Mr. Halley on each company. “1. ASML Holding (NASDAQ: ASML) The Dutch company has a monopoly on EUV lithography machines that are used to imprint patterns on silicon chips. 2. Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) The tech company hasn't let its profit goals get in the way of ESG progress and has invested heavily in renewable energy. It has set ambitious goals for reducing water use and to be carbon neutral. 3. Hermes International (OTC: HESAF) The luxury goods retailer sells longer-lasting goods to protect the environment and has a science-based target to lower greenhouse gas emissions in its supply chain and operations. 4. Fortinet (NASDAQ: FTNT) The cybersecurity company has lowered its carbon footprint, avoiding 455 tons of CO2 emissions by using eco-friendly packaging. It also uses 100% renewable energy in 80% of its owned sites. 5. Check Point Software Technologies (NASDAQ: CHKP) The Israeli company focuses on cybersecurity services. It said it's looking to be carbon neutral by 2040. It also focuses on charitable work and gender equality. 6. Colgate-Palmolive (NYSE: CL) Founded in 1806, it's one of the oldest companies in the US stock market. It has a diverse workforce, with 42% of its senior managers and directors being minorities (Black, Asian or Latino). 7. Adobe (NASDAQ: ADBE) The software company gets high sustainability scores by using renewable energy sources and reducing waste. It also has several diversity and inclusion initiatives.  8. Brookfield Renewable Partners (NYSE: BEP) It develops and operates renewable power and sustainable assets, including hydroelectric, wind, utility-scale solar power. It pays an above-average dividend.  9. Constellation Energy (NASDAQ: CEG) The electrical power and natural gas management services provider has the US's largest carbon-free nuclear presence after investing in the South Texas Project Electric Generating Station.  10. Applied Materials (NASDAQ: AMAT) The world's No. 1 semiconductor wafer fabrication equipment maker gets high ESG scores because it uses 100% renewable energy – wind and solar power – in the US, and 70% globally.” End quotes ------------------------------------------------------------- 4) Best Ethical, ESG Stocks, for 2024 The fourth article is another one from the investorplace.com site titled 7 Alternative Energy Stocks to Buy on the Fossil Fuel Fallout. It's by Josh Enomoto. Here are some quotes from Mr. Enomoto on each of his picks. “1. NextEra Energy (NYSE:NEE) generates, transmits, distributes and sells electric power to retail and wholesale customers in North America. Per its public profile, the company generates electricity through wind, solar, nuclear, natural gas and other clean energy... It's one of the alternative energy stocks to keep on your radar. 2. Cameco (NYSE:CCJ) provides uranium for electricity generation. It's sustainable, renewable and doesn't involve building ugly wind turbines that could impact wildlife. Notably, the company is a strong financial performer. Last fiscal year, it posted an average positive earnings surprise of 22.58%. 4. First Solar (NASDAQ:FSLR) provides photovoltaic (PV) solar energy solutions in the United States, France, Japan, Chile and internationally. Per its public profile, the company manufactures and sells PV solar modules with a thin film semiconductor technology that provides a lower-carbon alternative to conventional crystalline silicon PV solar modules… It's still risky but it could be a compelling wager for alternative energy stocks. 5. Clearway Energy (NYSE:CWEN) Per its corporate profile, Clearway has approximately 6,000 net megawatts (MW) of installed wind, solar and energy generation projects. It also features approximately 2,500 net MW of natural gas-fired generation facilities… The most optimistic analyst believes that Clearway Energy has… over 62% upside potential. 6. Brookfield Renewable (NYSE:BEPC) owns and operates a portfolio of renewable power and sustainable solution assets primarily in the U.S., Europe, Colombia and Brazil. According to its corporate profile, Brookfield operates hydroelectric, wind, solar and distributed energy and sustainable solutions with an installed capacity of approximately 19,161 MW… Shares feature a moderate buy consensus view. 7. Clean Energy Fuels (NASDAQ:CLNE) provides natural gas as alternative fuels for vehicle fleets and related fueling solutions in the U.S. and Canada… Clean Energy Fuels ranks as the highest-risk, highest-reward prospect on this list of alternative energy stocks.
