It's time to stock up on all your favorite Girl Scout cookies, everything from the classic Thin Mints and Peanut Butter Patties to the newer offerings like Lemonades. Each year, Girl Scouts around the country sell these tasty treats to raise money for their troops, but the lessons they learn are far deeper than just shelling out shortbread. Monica Roberts, the new Executive Director of the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts, talks with Nichole about this season's sale, a flavor that's going away (so you'll want to stock up!), and her vision for the future of Girl Scouting here in Massachusetts.

Next year I plan to do the Canning Stock Route. I think I'm going to go Tagalong with Jed Currey from Explore WA 4WD Adventures. So in this episode I pick his brains on what to expect and how to plan. It's a long episode and we talk about a lot of elements of traversing the Canning. I hope you enjoy it like I did talking to Jed.By the way, no discounts, deals or payments were exchanged for any part of this episode. No matter how you want to drive the Canning there will be some info to take away in this episode.Tagalongs are not for everyone, but I've done a few now and by and large I have enjoyed them heaps and found them an easy way to drive areas I'm not familiar with. That's probably why I speak about them favourably.Want to contact me? Got an idea for a podcast? Are you an expert at something? Lets talk.andy@4wdtribe.com.au

How does America's cutest sales force get billions of Thin Mints, Samoas, and Tagalongs into our hands every year? Zachary Crockett digs in.
Thin Mints®, Somoas® and Tagalongs® are an annual tradition for many Americans, but Girl Scouts are about a whole lot more than cookies. Today on #AllShineNoFlash, Ann interviews Shannon Evers, chief executive officer of Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington. As someone who was a Girl Scout growing up and now has a 20+ year career with the organization, Shannon has witnessed its evolution and growth over the years to keep pace with girls, while never losing sight of its mission of championing girl ambition.
Dr. Kevin Most of Northwestern Medicine joins the Steve Cochran Show to bring this week's roundup of medical news, including how to manage stress caused by traffic, the latest information on prostate cancer, and his take on which Girl Scout cookie has the least impact on a healthy diet. Read all of Dr. Most's notes below and hear him every Tuesday on The Steve Cochran Show. Prostate Cancer Study Prostate cancer continues to be the leading cancer in men, when we exclude skin cancer. Each year close to 175,000 men in the US will be diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. Men have a 1 in 9 chance of being diagnosed with prostate cancer, in African American that jumps to 1 in 6. There appears to be a genetic aspect as well, as those with a family member with Prostate Cancer see a risk elevated to 1 in 5. This study looked at 1600 men in UK who had localized contained prostate cancer. It began in 1999, and since then we have had many advances in imaging, and genetic testing. We also have more data both genetic and outcome data. It does raise the question for all men as to what road should I take if diagnosed with localized prostate cancer It split the men with well-defined localized prostate cancer, into one of 3 groups Surgery immediately Radiation Treatment Monitoring only- routine blood tests After 15 years, they found no difference in Mortality survival for all 3 groups. This had been shown in the past to be true at 10 years, this study has now extended that time frame. Big message is for men with localized disease that they should not panic or rush into any treatment. They should have good discussions with their physicians about next steps. Now there are some who had more advanced disease or were at higher risk and they were treated outside of the study. On Wednesday's "The Extra", host Shannon Brinias was joined by Rychelle Arnold, Girl Scouts of Colorado, Chief Product Program Officer, and Zoe O’Donnell, Girl Scout Senior, to talk about how starting January 31, Colorado Girl Scouts will be selling your favorite cookies in safe and innovative ways. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, girls are adapting their sales methods to include: Hosting virtual and drive-thru cookie booths. You can text COOKIES to 59618 (message and data rates may apply) or use the official Girl Scout Cookie Finder app for free on iOS or Android devices to find booths in your area; Making porch drop-offs to friends and family; Creating their own websites using the Digital Cookie platform to take online orders. If you know a registered Girl Scout, reach out to her to get the link to her website. If you don’t know a Girl Scout, visit girlscoutsofcolorado.org/cookies on February 1 to purchase cookies from a local troop for direct shipment to your home or donate to local non-profits or the military; and starting February 12, a new national collaboration with Grubhub will allow girls in select Colorado locations to take contact-free pickup and delivery orders. A hands-on experience in managing e-commerce, Girl Scouts will track and fulfill orders placed at grubhub.com/food/girl_scouts, manage inventory, and more, all using Grubhub’s back-end technology. As always, proceeds stay in Colorado. Girl Scouts of Colorado (GSCO) and Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) are grateful to Grubhub for waiving all fees for the organization to make this new delivery option feasible for sales without reducing proceeds. Thin Mints, Samoas, Tagalongs, Trefoils, Dos-si-Dos, and Lemon-Ups are $4/package. S’mores and gluten-free Toffee-tastic are $5/package. The 2021 Girl Scout Cookie Program ends Sunday, March 7.

Samoas, Thin Mints, Lemon Drops, Tagalongs... Are they good enough to keep Barry Martindale from doing his job?

The You Tried Dat?? gang undertakes possibly their most difficult challenge yet: a definitive ranking of all 10 Girl Scout Cookie flavors. In part 1, they tackle the most popular flavors: Thin Mints, Samoas, Trefoils, Do-Si-Dos, and Tagalongs. We got to check out the traveling Candytopia experience. It was so much fun and we have so many pictures so keep on eye out on our social media to see them all. We talked about the new Lays flavors last week and we actually try them this week. We have all three - Beer Cheese, Lime & Sea Salt, and Flaming Hot Dill Pickle. Danny got Reese's Rounds from Great Britain which is a lot like Tagalongs. You know we love Oreos, and we have some more to try - Easter Egg Oreos, and 2 imitation Oreos - one from Wegmans and one from Verkade.
First came Goop. Then came Preserve. Preserve died, but Goop thrived. And now, finally, we have Poosh. What is Poosh? Your guess is as good as mine, but it has something to do with Kourtney Kardashian sitting naked on a bathroom counter while drinking tea and typing on her laptop. Is that helpful? No? Oh well. Also on today's episode, the pre-Pose work of Billy Porter (Broadway Them, real-world Who), Wendy Williams' frustrating return to television, and whether or not Samoas and Tagalongs are Whos or Thems. * As always, call in at 619.WHO.THEM with your questions and comments, and don't forget to support us on Patreon for a jam-packed weekly newsletter and fortnightly bonus episodes!
People say we’re crazy, doin what we’re doin, but we’re back. This week, we recorded a daytime episode. Drinking coffee, staring out the window at the Cardinals playing in the midwestern snow, we couldn’t help but wonder. Do people = shit like Slipknot said? Or can we as humans aspire to whatever John Lennon imagined? Was John Lennon also a piece of shit? Is it really this simple, people being good & bad? Does a person ever reach a point at which they are completely beyond redemption? Social media would have you believe that for the smallest offense or deviation in thought, you should be ostracized from society. From politics, to boogers, this daytime episode probably has whatever you’re looking for in our shitty podcast. Thanks for listening. Three 6 Mafia forever, slob on my knob.
On this episode, Matthew and Andy chat with two of the four members of Punch Drunk Tagalongs! We'd love to have you back on soon! Check them out on all music streaming apps! Give them a like or follow on Facebook or Instagram. Enjoy. -TM

My neighborhood bulletin board read like this: My daughter is one of your local Girl Scouts. The cookie sale is coming to an end for 2018. We have the following boxes of cookies available and we deliver! Thin Mints - $4.00 per box Samoas - $4.00 per box Tagalongs - $4.00 per box S’mores - $5.00 per box Don’t forget you can freeze the cookies as well! If you are not a cookie fan but would still like to support, your local Girl Scout, you can purchase a box and it will be donated to our military troops. We will take orders and deliver to you up until February 13th. I’m sure many of you have seen those advertisements for Girl Scout cookies, but when I read this one yesterday, it forced me to pause. Below I’ve included (5) Business Lesson I’ve Learned From Girl Scout Cookie Sales: I. Scarcity Scarcity is one of the most valuable economic concepts that works every time. Starbucks uses it when they offer Peppermint Mocha Lattes during the holidays. Television adds use it when they are selling a product and slap on, for a limited time offer. Girl Scouts of America uses it when they sale Girl Scout cookies once a year. Scarcity builds the anticipation. Scarcity prompts you to purchase more to hold you over until the products are available again. Scarcity also increases the value of the product. II. A Good Cause Not only most of us wouldn’t think twice about supporting a young girl outside of our local grocery store, but you can also donate to our troops. Images of a smiling American soldier, in a dusty desert comes to mind, as they receive their favorite Girl Scout cookies, which will no doubt recall happy memories. TOMS shoes is fantastic at this business model, as many customers feel good about knowing that their shoes will allow children in need to have shoes. Think about ways you can do social good with whatever product/ service you sell. By the way, you’ll feel better. It’s the responsible action to take. III. Quality, Consistent Product I love Girl Scout cookies and what amazes me about the products is that everyone has a favorite. I understand that not all of the ingredients in Girl Scout cookies are exactly healthy but they are consistent. When you tear open a package of Thin Mints, they tastes the same as they did last year and I daresay, 10 years ago. Consistency is key. If we’re not consistent our customers will not only be confused but also will not trust us. They will stop searching for your weekly podcast if you are not consistently providing content. They won’t want to purchase your burgers if one day they are dry and the next time they are juicy. Master the consistency of your product and customers will come. IV. Make It Easy for People To Do Business With You In Martha Stewart’s book, The Martha Rules: 10 Essentials for Achieving Success As You Start, Build Or Manage a Business, she wrote a statement which I always refer to in my entrepreneurial journey. I know I’m paraphrasing but she said, “Don’t Make it Hard For People to Do Business With You." When I read the community advertisement and this mother offered home delivery of the $4 cookies, I couldn’t help but think about that quote from Martha Stewart. Making it easy for people to do business with you may look different for your business, but the underlying sentiment is the same. In your Webinar business, it may mean to be responsive to questions from potential customers. For your restaurant, it may mean turning out your meals in a timely manner. For your clothing business, it may mean offering clothing clothing sizes for people outside of the mainstream standard of beauty. As entrepreneurs we always have to be on the lookout for individuals who want to do business with you but are having a hard time doing business with you. Then, when we objectively scrutinize the reasons and fix it. V. Don’t Take No For An Answer Let’s face it. A lot of us could do without consuming a pack of cookies. In 2017, 21.4% of us had losing weight and healthier eating as a New Year’s Resolution. So, in January/February some of us are really trying to not bring boxes of sugary snacks into our homes. That would mean a percentage of customers would say no to a Girl Scout out of fear of falling off their Weight Loss/Healthier eating goal. What would the savvy inner Girl Scout business girl do? “You can donate your purchase to our military troops.” Someone says no, you give them another option that goes directly against their reasoning for saying no. Episode 42 has Casey & Tyler talking about listeners and then imbibing Obama Kush from Bridge City Collective with Royal Highness hash from Oregon Coast Cannabis. Then they chat about pairing 10 #cannabis strains with five kinds of Girl Scout Cookies. They talk about: Samoas with Hindu Kush (6:05), Samoas with Chocolate Chunk (7:47), Tagalongs with Trainwreck (9:46), Tagalongs with OG Kush (12:15), Do-si-dos with Jack Flash (13:59), Do-si-dos with Burmese Kush (15:48), Thin Mints with Black Betty (17:45), Thin Mints with God Bud (19:57), Toffee-tastic with White Widow (20:32), Toffee-tastic with Chocolate Cream (21:32), “They’re (the cookies) shit Casey, don’t lie to me.” (22:01), Casey & a letter to the editor (25:40). Last year, Casey and I did Girl Scout and cannabis pairing for Willamette Week. Below are our original notes. Samoas Pairing Notes Hindu Kush was chosen for its tasty and stinky combination of sweet, nutty and earthy flavors. It made sense that the toasted coconut in the cookie would pair well because it takes on the flavor of other foods well. Major terpenes: Caryophyllene, Pinene, Humulene Chocolate Chunk was brought on board for its strong and sweet aroma of chocolate. The hope was to enhance the chocolate taste in the cookie by adding more sweet and bitter flavors. Major terpenes: Myrcene, Linalool, Limonene Tagalongs Pairing Notes When searching for strains to combine with this cookie, we focused our attention on varieties with a combination of sweet, nutty and chocolate notes — like Trainwreck. The most prominent taste in Train Wreck is it’s nuttiness as well as a sweet, almost lemon flavor. We wanted to mellow out the peanut butter and turn the sweetness in the chocolate. Major terpenes: Limonene, Myrcene, Caryophyllene The sweet and nutty flavors in OG Kush are what stuck out in the selection process because the aim of pairing these aromas and tastes was to great a synergy of flavors. Think of it of the weaving of flavors to create more complex ones. Doubling up on the sweetness along take its potency to a deeper level. Major terpenes: Limonene, Caryophyllene, Myrcene do-si-dos Pairing Notes
Samoas. Tagalongs. Thin Mints. We all love them, but we know there is a huge problem with them. Hear Drew and Cody talk about it in this week's episode!
We get our inner fat kid hammered on beer and cookies. In this episode, we’re looking for the right local beer pairings with Girl Scout cookies. We have six pairings to review, but thankfully, Ryan has edited out all the chewing and moaning. We test out some new characters, call for year-round cookie sales, and explain why Twitter hates babies. Craig forgot a beer and then throws some stuff. Ryan is unaware of U2.
